This game deserves a remaster or at the very least to be available on modern consoles. It’s about saving a cultural legacy. There’s a bunch of movies that are much more « problematic » and are still being offered on dvd, blu ray etc. The stupid mindset we have today is just that: the way it works today. It’ll change. We’ve already lost some great silent movies by not safekeeping them, we need to save our videogames. Ps2 around the world is dying, the consoles are out of service, and dvd is a medium that doesn’t stand the test of time and degrades rapidly. If we can’t have studios keep their own IPs available then we need to support emulation and send a strong signal to the industry. It’s now to a point of stupidity where the working conditions and work ethic are horrific but the games are tame and banal. This is backwards.

The trick to training Hewie is: Command->Hewie obeys->Praise
    If Command->Hewie doesn't obey->Scold->Repeat Command->Hewie obeys->Praise
Follow this technique. By the time you beat Debilitas, Hewie should follow your commands fairly quickly by then. And save some treats for the good boi! Only feed him both types of jerkys or Esca or Magna Esca. Everything else hurts him or makes him hurt you.

(14:20) So okay, a fun fact. As you hide, a Pursuer will stay around longer if Hewie (the dog) is walking around in the room. Hewie can actually give away your hiding place, as his presences puts them on a high alert. If they see Hewie, they figure you must be there. This is oddly by design.
However, if you're able to get Hewie to hide in the spot WITH YOU, and keep quiet, you'll lose your Pursuer faster and more effectively. That is why patience with Hewie is important...

This was truly a masterpiece and where ahead of its time, with all the things that they attempted to implement.

3:33 the stuff you can get away with in this game sometimes is hilarious XD
As for the chase stuff, there are definitely scripted chases and specific rooms where certain enemies won't follow you or might even despawn, but I do believe there's some level of free roaming even if it's combined with teleports (you can also see them wander all over in the Hewie mini game looking for Fiona).
Fiona's kick can hurt the stalkers but it's very weak by default (can be upgraded), I mostly use it while Hewie is attacking them if anything. And the fact that attacking stalkers can increase your panic doesn't help xD
The charge is a bit more useful, mainly because you can instantly trigger it after dodging as well.
Overall, training Hewie and making good use of commands to deal more damage and avoid receiving it is much more reliable, and it pays off later in the game.
Running, kicking doors and other stuff will attract stalkers, you can even have boots to make your footsteps quieter.
Usually the music will stop, and there's a chance they will come towards you, but sometimes you can stay quiet and eventually the bgm starts playing again without them showing up. I also sometimes try to close doors behind me while not in a chase but I can't guarantee that really helps.
Also, Hewie really does improve if you take the time to train him, the most important change in my opinion is him attacking the stalkers when you're in panic mode which can make the difference between life and death. He also unlocks certain abilities as you progress through the game, but you usually have ways to unlock them a little earlier ("feeling when Fiona is in danger" as the game puts it, being one of them, which tends to make him attack stalkers in panic mode without you even asking for help, etc.)
16:36 The order doesn't matter, and there's another similar grid with different words that are highlighted in red and match this one's (and there are also numbers hinting at the amount of letters you need)
17:06 You get hints if you examine the statue thingy, and Hewie's position also matters for this puzzle.
Maybe it's because I've played clock tower 3, but I don't feel like you get chased too much in general, it feels just right after playing that xD considering the variety of obvious and improvised hiding spots available (I've discovered some of them a few years ago for the first time).
19:45 The first boss fight actually allows you to beat it by brute force (which is how I did it on my first playthrough, funnily enough xD), the last boss has something similar too.
20:10 This is where hard mode comes in, you'll find nothing but medallions throughout the game and better medallions can guarantee amazing items, such as fairy earrings which will allow you to become invisible after standing still for a few seconds.
After beating the game once, you'll unlock the ability to get two more endings and a few extra cutscenes every time you start a new game, and it's all around meant to he replayed (fighting stalkers will also allow you to steal items from enemies and is fun in a challenging way, especially once you get better at it).
This game looks so good for a PS2 game... The models and post processing effects are really cool, all the game needs is higher resolution textures and you could already call it a remaster (and I personally would like a bit of a contrast tweak so it doesn't look so bright/gray/sort of washed out, I got a similar feeling with the GameCube version of re1 but they overdid it in the remasters xD)

Hewie can also be trained to attack on sight or find hidden items without being asked if you praise him correctly

Also the stalkers do patrol the area. This is why after you lose them, you shouldn't go into the same direction the stalker when to, even if you need go that way

Why Capcom hasn't at the very least ported this game to modern consoles is beyond me. It's on Japan's PSN, but not for the rest of the globe. I still have my PS2 copy, but it's such a pain to try and hook up my ps2 to my hdtv.

If they were to port this to modern hardware, I’m sure it would be much more well received rather than making sure the Atari 2600 had its own proper port of resident evil four.

It isn’t. Been checking for years. Europe never had it and japanese does not have english, which makes it impossible to read menus or any text really
