Great video Matt, I'm working on a budget and tending to buy more Blu-ray, in the past i bought 4K without really thinking about value for money. I'm really happy with Blu-ray and I still watch DVD's. TV series like The Outer Limits and Sliders look great. Many of them won't get the upgrade to Blu-ray.
Absolutely Ian, it's all about choice at the end of the day. But it's worth doing some research before hand so you're not paying a high price for a 4k which isn't much better than the blu ray. Point break 4k seems to fit into this, I'm glad I opted for the Blu ray 👍
Thanks, my name is Matt though 🤣. I think it all depends on the film used how it's processed etc. Some 4ks look outstanding take Jaws 4k, but Robocop probably looks better with Blu ray. It's all subjective and Upto each to decide. But some of these remastered Blu ray certainly look great and are more than half the price of their 4k counterpart makes you question what actually extras are you paying for 🤔
@MattVs_Movies Sorry Matt for calling you Stuart, I'm blaming sunstroke lol...I only buy 4ks now that are special editions or steelbooks, the recent King Kong edition was beautiful
Good topic and I only have a few 4k. I must admit the crow 4k looked better than seeing at the cinema but with the transfers being hit or miss due to quality it's not something I actively seek out going forwards
Great vid Matt. I’m Questioning myself the need for 4K over Blu-ray. Orca. I got the Blu-ray over the steelbook ( but part of that was navies the 4K steelbook art wasn’t very good. Arrow video I’m very cautious with as some Of the 4K transfer of late been questionable at best.
Yep definitely worth picking and choosing titles. I feel we are being ripped off in some cases. Point break 4k £24.99 , Blu ray £9..99 same remaster, apparently looks the same so why over double the price 🤷
@@MattVs_Movies 🤷♂️🤷♂️. Crazy. I think that 4K is a way of keeping physical Media alive longer. So studios / companies are pumping them Out faster and faster - to make Money whilst they can. And with that speed the transfers are being rushed and the quality being affected
@ajsmovieplace I think if a remaster is done on Blu ray like the Arrow editions then that is being put on a higher storage disc( 4k )with HDR layer on top little extra cost involved but charging a premium for it ☝️
@@MattVs_Movies I watched comparison videos before I got it. I had the blu ray but it’s just not as good. You’re entitled to your opinion and I can respect it.
Great video Matt, i have the 4K of Red Sonja and i must admit that i was underwhelmed by it, Just felt like a Blu-ray stuck on a 4K disc, Another example would be 88 Films Witchfinder General, i decided on the Blu-Ray at £15.99 compared to £30 for the 4K, very happy with it, I think 90% of my 4Ks i have, i wait until they are around £15 before i pick them up. One to look out for if you haven't got it is Crawl, that 4K looks fantastic.
I've seen Crawl very good not seen on 4k yet. I think it's very hit and miss some 4ks are fantastic it's worth researching before buying as the price difference can often be quite large.
Some films I prefer the grainy feel to them .like to original robocop and evil dead. The sharpness isn’t needed for some of the older movies.if I have upgraded to the blu ray then the 4K isn’t needed.also depends on he sound system you have . Then it mite be worth it for some. Even some of the dvd still stand up to some of the new transfer .great vlog
4k is good for the 80s 90s and early 2000s upgrades But modern Blurays are good value and can match their 4k versions with picture and audio. Plus most new Blurays come with Atmos now. I've stopped buying the latest films on 4k as the Bluray is better value now for me.
It depends on the individual I guess. But I work hard for my money so I want to get the best value for it. Some of these 4ks dint seem much better than the remastered blu rays so why pay more 🤷 Just my opinion 👍
You reminded me when you showed Red Sonja, I got the Red Heat 4K with the upscaled Blu-ray and I personally thought the Blu-ray was almost as good. The Blu-ray of T2 is the only one I watch now, I haven't touched the 4K again.... But that's a different matter all together! Batman 89 and Batman Begins 4K look far better than the Blu-ray to me but something newer like Arrival, looks the same on Blu as the 4K. The only very modern film I prefer on 4K is Civil War, the higher resolution really makes the image a lot clearer than the Blu. Taking about films like Twisters.... older films most of the time finished their visual effects at 2K so anything more than Blu-ray makes them stand out a mile and look pretty bad sometimes.
Yep I think you have to pick and choose your titles some better than others. I'm thinking of picking up batman 89 on 4k only have the blu ray. Be interesting to see what Twister looks like on 4k . I like the look of the set so that's swayed me 😂
@@MattVs_Movies Batman is definitely worth the bump. I got the Italian 4K's because they were only £9.99 each, that was a while back though. Hahahahaha! They pull us in with these sets hey! 🤣

I upgraded point break to 4k version to be honest i dont think it was worth it but i still love the movie and happy to have

If Im going to watch a film if I can have it best quality, especially if Im going to rewatch it, but I do it in on a budget.
Sometimes the blu rays areas good a quality for a fraction of the price. Red Sonja and Point Break are two examples
