I think this is one of Arcade 1up best products to date. At least that is my opinion.

      TMCLOSKY,
I agree. Arcade1Up dropped the ball on the Pac-Man Deluxe and XL with their display issues. So glad I got a decent Pac-Man cab with this Legacy.
Thanks for checking out the video!

Great review. Really appreciate your very careful thinking here. It is so interesting how aspects of the same cab can be experienced differently among the user base of that cab. For example, when you look at the marquee on your Pac-Man legacy , you don’t see washout. I do. You see washout on the Pac-Man XL screen whereas I don’t. Heck I even prefer the smoothing filter whereas many loath that look. Also, while your version may have been screen uniformity than my Pac-Man XL, that doesn’t matter much to me if you cannot see all of that nice screen when standing up playing the machine. Near the end of your very well articulated review you indicate that a highly worth Namco Pac-Man cab is yet to come. I honestly think I already have that in the Pac-Man XL!

      farmerstephen6080,
I'm so glad you're enjoying your Pac-Man XL! Getting what you like, I feel, is the most important message I have in this video. I love the fact that we all have our own likes and dislikes, because that brings more things to the table. Could you imagine if we all liked the same thing? We'd only need one arcade machine. Differences lead to more options and those options have allowed me to craft the Home Arcade of my dreams!
Disagreeing is a part of most journeys, but I feel it doesn't have to stand in the way of people coming together to enjoy this wonderful hobby. Thank you SO MUCH for sharing your experience with me and thank you for stopping by to watch the video!
      Have a great one!

      Jester Tester,
Glad you got to check out the video!
It's interesting sometimes, I start out having a couple ideas, and then before I know it, I've spawned so many rabbit holes I didn't initially anticipate :) I'm glad it all wove together into a full circle Pac-estry (ok, bad pun) that came together in the end.
Thanks again for your great video topics that I could weave into the narrative.
      Have a great one!

@videogamevegas Yes, it is funny how we can easily go down the rabbit hole regarding the Arcade1up topics and home arcades in general. I would like to thank you again for addressing the issue with the Casinocade. Problems like these can best be exposed by us UA-camrs trying our best to protect and inform the community regarding the positives and the negatives on these expensive purchases. Sharing any honest information is imperative for the consumer to make the best informed decision regarding making an investment into these products. I applaud your willingness to stick to factual information as opposed to some who may feel the need to always offer a positive position and review for personal gains or reasons. I respect your position and unbiased opinions.

      Jester Tester,
Yeah, honesty is paramount to me, the foundation trust. From the very beginning when I released my channel welcome video I let people know how I operate, so they'd know what to expect from me. If you get a chance, or are curious, you may want to check out that video, it's topics are parsed by chapters like this video.
I was so disappointed in some of my favorite UA-camrs on how they handled (or didn't handle) the topic of this year's Deluxes and XL display issues. Some of their messaging seemed way off to what I was used to. I felt I needed to speak about my observations, even though I knew they might not be popular. But popularity isn't what's important to me, the truth is.
I'm glad I found a fellow UA-camr in you who isn't afraid to tell it like it is. I don't mind giving Arcade1Up praise when they do something right, but I equally don't shy away from pointing something out when they do something wrong. And pointing out flaws doesn't diminish the positivity in the hobby. It enhances it. I'm glad I can share my stories and hopefully entertain :)
      Have a great one!

I have the Galaga Deluxe. I'm too concerned with horrific input lag to give much consideration to the screen washout.

    • @videogamevegas
      @videogamevegas  5 місяців тому

      ToddMcF2002,
Thanks for sharing this. I'm sorry to hear about the input lag. It always seems like something when it comes to Arcade1Up. I appreciate you providing this information as it can help others in the community considering a Galaga Deluxe. I still haven't found a Galaga Deluxe playable in the wild, but some videos have popped up showing that it too suffers from the same screen uniformity issues causing that moving screen washout.
I think I'm pretty much done with Arcade1Up products unless they can put more emphasis on quality in all essential parts of a cabinet. My last, and probably final purchase, was their Time Crisis cabinet, which I thought would make a great shell for a mod project. I wanted a lightgun cabinet with a large number of games. The 4 games that come stock on Time Crisis, just won't cut it for me. So I waited for the perfect storm. Once that happened, a great sales price for the cabinet and a company called Buy Stuff Arcades making incredible plug and play mods specifically for it, I finally jumped in.
I wanted a cabinet that looked appealing to me for this project. I have Arcade1Up's Big Buck World, but it really didn't work visually for me in my Home Arcade, and though I like the game Terminator 2, I've never been fond of the look of a T2 cabinet. And I would've preferred Arcade1Up to make a House of the Dead, who knows if that will ever happen, but Time Crisis is just so strikingly beautiful that I'm happy I chose it.
I bought Buy Stuff Arcades 19" monitor upgrade along with their new control panel, which includes two holsters for the lightguns and a joystick with 6 action buttons. The brains of the cabinet will be a Pandora's Box and lightgun solution, which looks like it should do the job. I'm not promoting the company who produces the Pandora kit, because I don't like the way they do business, but thankfully there are many solutions out there that can complement the Buy Stuff Arcades mods.
I hope you enjoyed the video and thanks for stopping by!

Thank you for the kind words! Arcade1Up makes it hard for me to like them sometimes. I'm glad they came up with a cool concept and I'm also glad other companies have entered the home arcade space. They have competition and can't just rely on a good idea any longer.

      TMCLOSKY,
I remember when I first saw Mr. Pickle. He was in one of those claw machines in an arcade I went to. Now I'm not good at those games of chance, so I went home and did a quick internet search and found one and bought it out right. And just like Pac-Man, Mr. Pickle has his Ms. Pac-Man equivalent, the very rare Pinky Pickle. Here's a good shot of Pinky as well as the rest of the Burgertime gang in my Home Arcade: ua-cam.com/video/9_7kgYH_OHA/v-deo.html

I see a lot of people trying to sell off their first edition legacy Pac-man cabinet for the Deluxe or XL. Makes me chuckle a little bit to think that in some ways, they are actually downgrading.

      xcom6466,
I'm hoping the information in this video saves some from the mistake of selling off their Legacy. I know I would've been angry if I sold mine to get a newer, but inferior, cabinet. I'm glad I didn't just blindly trust some reviewers. Luckily their video footage told a different story than what they were saying. Seeing the new cabs in person was an eye opener and I plan to do that from now on where possible.
Thanks for checking out the video! Have a great one!

Great video, VGV... i do agree with you that an online store would bring in a larger customers basic and it would allow previous and new buyers options to purchase the cabs and games of they choice! This is where arcade1up has dropped the ball!
When it comes to this Pacman/Namco legacy deluxe, the game lists is on point, but when i purchase another yellow cab, i want to be Qbert instead lol! Pacman legacy doesn't have any nostalgia with me, but i glad arcade1up community that this cab came in a deluxe and XL form factor, but for me, i wanted/rather have Pacmania instead! Great video VGV....

    • @videogamevegas
      @videogamevegas  6 місяців тому

      GCA,
I think it's very important to get the cabinets that speak to you. Pacmania is a BEAUTIFUL cabinet, and the necessary mods you made, make that cabinet really SHINE! Such an improvement!
I know I wanted a Pac-Man cabinet in my Home Arcade, and I would've taken any in that family to represent the Fever, except for Professor Pac-Man, that game sucks. And though I don't much care for the game Pac-Man Plus, the cabinet would've been fine, because I love the marquee. Fun fact though, I actually like the game Pacmania over the original Pac-Man.
I think getting a Q*Bert as a 3/4 scale is a great idea if a company produces a good one. I currently have a 1/6 scale Q*bert in my Home Arcade. Arcade1Up waited too long for me to consider a larger version of Q*Bert now, as I have no more room and the game just can't edge out what I already have.
Glad you got to check out the review and glad you didn't get suckered into getting any of the new vertical screen Namco Deluxes.
      Cheers!

I think there’s room in Arcade1up’s line up for a plain black cabinet for customers to customize and add only the games they want.

      19kfox,
Yeah, you and I are both on the same page when it comes to having an option for a plain black cabinet, something for people to fully custom. I know you liked the iiRcade blank canvas offering and I myself also went for a plain black cabinet in my home arcade from a company called Rec Room Masters. Here's a clip from this video showing what my now skinned, Berzerk cabinet, used to look like in flat black: ua-cam.com/video/Oy2AfzESDR8/v-deo.html
Thanks for checking out the video! I always value your thoughts when it comes to this great hobby!

I've examined BOE monitor between a Tempest Legacy cab and a Pac Man Deluxe.. same model BOE 17", which is also shared in the Mortal Kombat + SFII deluxe cabs. Both are the DV170YGZ-N10 / B10... neither of them have any of the off-axis viewing issues you described, one has some backlight bleed on one edge I'll be warranty replacing via A1Up.
I do have a lot of complaints about the deluxe Pac Man series cabs in general.. starting with the total lack of access to the control panel once the cabinet is built out. Good luck replacing the trash stock joystick with a huge amount of pre-travel before you hit a switch in any direction. There are weird volume spikes in some games and the "return to menu" option only kind of works in some games? Next to the SFII deluxe cabinet with the popup menu when you hit the "Live" button the whole magical key combination to exit a game seems crude.
The Galaga is the only one of the 3 standard "deluxe" models with the illuminated coin door and control panel (like the XL Pac Man) but has sold recently for as little as $360 on Amazon with a $399 MSRP. The plain jane Class of 81 and Pac Man Deluxe cabs have unlit coin doors / control panels and the Pac Man shares the same game assortment.. but are both $100 more expensive even though the cabinet is otherwise identical at $499 for a less full featured design? Right now $500 is the standard price for a limited edition Atari 50th cabinet with the light up panel/coin door, gold trim and joystick / spinner / trackball control panel along with the added 2600 console titles in the mix...

    • @videogamevegas
      @videogamevegas  10 місяців тому

      TheYuppiejr,
Yeah, I kind suspected that Arcade1Up might be using the same BOE monitor model in all of their cabinets, and as I mentioned in the video, they most likely are using the same ones in the new Deluxes. Now, I'm right there with you when it comes to the Deluxe cabinets you mentioned, Mortal Kombat and SFII. In fact, I've seen the Mortal Kombat II Deluxe at Best Buy, and like you discovered, I also didn't detect any display issues and it looks great, though I don't recall any edge bleed on the one I looked at (I wouldn't expect any display issues on SFII either). I'm sure all the new Deluxe cabinets released with a monitor positioned at a normal vertical angle are going to display great. The Pac-Man and Class of 81' Deluxes and the new Pac-Man XL however, have that new extreme slant to their monitors causing the BOE's to produce screen uniformity issues.
The main goal of my video, besides the review, was to compare newer versions of Arcade1Up cabinets similar to the Pac-Man Legacy I was reviewing and to express some reservations regarding possible shady stuff when people described the displays on the specific Deluxe and XL Namco machines I mentioned. Because of this focus, it's why no other Deluxe cabinets from other publishers were mentioned (Capcom, Midway, etc). Those aren't really alternatives to a Namco Pac-Man Legacy, other than them simply being arcade machines. I hope this comment shows that we're on the same page when it comes to BOE's looking great when positioned in a normal vertical fashion like found in the new Mortal Kombat II and SFII Deluxes. Oh, and I do have the Atari Legacy Tempest, and I agree, that monitor is AWESOME!
I'm glad companies try different things, but when it comes to Arcade1Up, it's almost always surface level. Sure, add sparkles like light up buttons and coin doors, or fancy new cabinet designs, but when it comes to core things that really matter, It seems like Arcade1Up's strategy is, who cares if the display looks like crap, or if the games don't look, sound, or play well.
Reviews have been my bread and butter when making wise purchasing decisions, but this year, some people's words are simply not matching what the product really is. Luckily, I'm not easily duped, I clearly saw issues in the footage some shot, and it prompted me to seek out these cabinets in person. I'm glad that I did, but I'm also saddened that my trust is gone with some creators. Many narratives I've seen this year surrounding Arcade1Up machines have been pitiful. It's only made me feel like Arcade1Up is trying to scam their customers, and using some of it's customer base to do it. Of course, that's speculation, but it all just feels icky to me.
      Thanks for your thoughtful comment!

Great video. I believe if it wasn't for Jesters' video pointing out the issue. They had no intention of ever addressing it. As you stated, an "unintended issue" is ridiculous to even state. I also love the Haunted House and Elvira backglass prints on your wall.

      Generational Gamers,
Yeah, Arcade1Up has been quite sneaky over the years. I wish the company could be as cool as the concept they came up with. They'll give you a plastic coin door and claim their listening to the fans, but where it really counts, they continue to fail. I don't wish them ill by any means, but yeah, it's been awhile since I've bought one of their official products.
Glad you liked the pinball artwork. Love those machines :)
