Hey Ryan, definitely check out Mike G's videos for CQ Lite, he's got it side by side with CanCoat running an extended durability test without toppers: ua-cam.com/video/zFsmNi9zTVA/v-deo.html ua-cam.com/video/RWJdYN_saM8/v-deo.html Mike does awesome reviews and durability tests, he's a fantastic resource for detailing!
Great video Kyle! You saw exactly what drew me to like it: exceptional value, great hydrophobics and it performs as if it was in a higher class. I applied it on a test car 6 months ago and it’s still going strong. Something tells me this should last 7-9 months easily.
Thanks Pan! That's good durability, I checked in with Mike G from the forums who is also around the 6 month mark with strong performance still. Loving how they're able to pack just as much hydrophobics into Lite in the short term compared to CQUK, even with the reduced sio2/tio2 content. November is going to be a jammed pack month of new releases, definitely looking forward to see what everyone will be offering for the next season!
Glad to see someone addressing the issues with DPC Shield. I purchased and applied 3 layers of Shield to my truck the 1st week of June. I had about 1/4 of the bottle left, sealed it back up, put the bottle into a box and put the box into a drawer in the house. Around the last week of August I removed and repainted all the plastic trim on the truck and was going to coat it with the remaining Shield. Cleaned and prepped all the trim and found the remaining Shield had hardened in the bottle and was useless. Over the next few weeks I started to see the coating itself on my truck fail. Come the last week of September it was all but gone. I polished the remaining Shield off (if there was any left) and recoated with CarPro CQuartz UK 3.0. Yeah, Shield is only $40, but a lot of time and effort went into using it, and for a product touted as having a 12-18 month lifespan with multiple layers, I was very disappointed with the poor quality and performance. CarPro is much higher quality and have not used a product of theirs that didn't deliver as advertised.
Thanks for your feedback Eddie! I've heard a lot of feedback from Shield users, both good and bad like most products. Hopefully DPC will get the bottling or formula revamped and we end up with a good option for another value based coating on the market. It was pretty easy to work with in my tests but I have not been running it through a durability test. CQUK has been an absolute tank of a coating on my test cars, keep me posted on how it holds up for you over time!
I am not trying to bash Shield; the other day someone stated, in the DPC FB group, that they are experiencing build up on their coating and asked what they could do about it. I suggested to the person that he decon the coating with Carpro Tar-X, Eagle One B&PC, wash with Reset, and follow up with Distilled White Vinegar or Carpro Spotless, and if he doesn't get the result he is looking for, I suggested a reapplication of his coating or to use Carpro Essence+. Let's just say that some people didn't take too kindly to this suggestion. I think the the poor attitude may have come from the fact that the original poster using Shield. Merely my observations from the interaction. I also find it fascinating because the process that I outlined above had been tried so many times, and has been found true, so many times. Of course the tried and true have been on coatings that compete with CQUK and later versions, not Lite coatings.
CQ Lite is a product which under promises and over delivers. For the price you pay, and the amount of coating you get, it's the best value coating on the market today. I recently applied 2 layers of CQ Lite + Reload as a sacrificial layer to the hood of my car. It's a daily driver and is garaged overnight. I have no doubt that I'll be seeing 12+ months durability from this.
Let us know how it holds up for you! I've got a new test spot that I'll be working with different toppers for CQ Lite to see how it likes to be maintained over the months. Really taking a close look at the new Meguiar's Hybrid Ceramic Detailer, this stuff is insanely hydrophobic in the short term! Want to see if it plays well with coatings.
PapaSmurf918 - You definitely have to grab a coating one of these days to try out. CQ Lite would be a good option, I’m also really looking forward to Meguiar’s new M788 coating, which based on what they’re saying should be easier to work with and wipe off compared to CQuartz and even McKee’s 37. I think the first time guys try a coating like CQUK or if they try Lite out, they’re pretty surprised at how different they feel compared to waxes and sealants and aren’t expecting that lack of super slickness. So the Meguiar’s even at $80 for the kit I think will bring in a lot of first time users if it’s as easy as they say it is. Keep up the great work on the videos on your channel as well!
@@WaxMode that's great advice... I saw that Meguiars m788 on a video on here explaining how easy it was. I definitely want to try a user friendly coating to get my feet wet. I do have a test hood so I'm grateful of that. Thanks for the great information man. Really appreciate it👍👍and thanks bro!! Coming from you that means a lot!!✊ take care and have a happy Thanksgiving!🦃🦃
Great video. Cquartz Lite has been pretty great for me at 6 months. Competing very well with CanCoat in my testing. I like what you mentioned about coatings hardening/curing longer than 7 days. I agree with you on that. I also agree with you on these torture test that everyone is so fond of. One thing to keep in mind and I tested this myself is that high spots with this product is pretty forgiving. Take a little more Lite and put it over the high spot and it is removed even after many hours after the high spot is found.
Thanks Mike! I'm working on getting to the bottom of understanding chemical resistance. One of the things that I've noticed about Seal N Shine and 303 Touchless Sealant, both of which are super resistant against chemical dumping, is they're extremely heavy on the paint. Very difficult to wipe cleanly by detailer's standards. So my theory is this heaviness attributes to a very strong short term chemical resistance, at the expense of a potential nightmare of streakiness on darker paints which I've noticed with both products in some situations. If the new TW HS Ceramic Spray Coating is less chemically resistant in the short term than SNS, this would make sense to me because it didn't seem as heavy as SNS when I was working with it in Arizona. If the trade off for chemical resistance is a more concentrated heavier formula that is prone to streaking, I'll take the lighter formula for paint. I appreciate your feedback as well that you sent over for CQ Lite, I'm looking forward to your update videos on durability!
Thanks Idtriton! I need to up my game though, bring in product applications and grab a tripod and learn how to actually edit the videos. I really want to start reviewing polishers as well, I've got so many polishers and polishes and compounds, need to put those to good use.
Thanks Fab! I'd love to hear your feedback on CQ Lite as well if you end up trying it out. I wish Gilmour had more of a professional heavy duty version of this nozzle with the rear trigger setup, this one I'm using seems to restrict flow a bit and it could be much more ergonomic and better quality. But they put together this center flood setting really well, and the built-in swivel is great for when I'm filming with one hand and moving the hose around. They have a non-watering professional version and a thumb trigger pro watering version that I'm not a fan of. Looking forward to the next get together with the UA-cam crew!
My dpc shield turned into a white blob in less than 3 months in a controlled environment, out of sunlight. I was disappointed BUT I contacted Scott and he will make it right. He will send a new bottle, free of charge when the new stock comes in
Lite is still very much a more significant wipe off compared to DPC Shield, feels heavier and a bit similar to CQUK. Definitely need to respect it, take your time, don't work in too large of an area, and make sure you do a thorough wipeoff before moving to the next section, have plenty of microfibers as well.
WaxMode DPC shield pro has been released. Should I get that instead of lite? I also want to be able to coat customer’s cars so it would be more economical to get Lite
@@jeremys8360 - It appears to be a completely different formulation than the previous version of Shield. At 30ml for $55 regular price, on sale for $39 I would expect this to compete against the heavier coatings like CQUK, Gyeon Pure. If you're getting credit for the old version of Shield, I'd jump on the new version. Other than that, you'll definitely get much more uses out of a 150ml bottle of Lite.
I recently got one of those Gilmore watering nozzles after seeing one of your videos. That center flooding setting really makes it easy to flood the surface to dry the paint so easy!
All these years and someone finally came up with a practical flood setting on a spray nozzle! I agree with you, the usefulness of this feature is awesome. There's definitely areas of this nozzle that can be improved, such as better quality like their professional nozzle line, and less reduced water flow. Then this would be the perfect spray nozzle.
Thanks Phil! If you're a fan of CQUK, then you'll definitely like it. The real test for me is to see how long we can get CQ Lite to last without topping, anything close to 1 year and we have a seriously good product on our hands at 5oz.
Great demonstration and explanation! I'll definitely have to pick this up. I'm installing Optimum Gloss Coat on a friend's car this month and I'm interested to see how that performs
Thanks so much! Let me know how Gloss Coat holds up for you. I’ve heard great things about how easy it is to apply and remove, durability results have been so-so. I haven’t ever work with it yet but may in the future.
Fusso Coat does well and generally still preforms well at three months, with that said I kinda find the idea of maintaining a wax/sealant/coating pointless. We use them to protect our vehicles and now it seems we buy even more products in order to protect the thing which is protecting our vehicle. If I put wax on my vehicle it's to protect the paint (and to watch it bead some) if I'm applying products on top of this it really defeats the functional/intended purpose of the original product. Folks use ceramic coatings to protect their vehicle for a longer period of time than a traditional wax/sealant applying stuff over it negates some of the benefits and instead we see the properties of the product on top now. It seems like we have reached a point where we are putting wax on top of wax to protect wax... Don't get me wrong I'm just like everyone else I wanna see some nice beading but if we are maintaining long term products monthly/bi-monthly/every 3 months than it simply defeats the purpose of the product... They are used for the benefit of not having to constantly top up/reapply frequently yet we are still doing it. If I go out and pay someone to coat my vehicle yet I drive around every day with spray wax over it (and blocking it's water beading properties) than there is no need for the original making it simply another step as the spray wax will be the only thing I see the whole time if there is a ceramic coating under it or not the water beading and protection (if "maintained") will not change the spray waxes performance either way as the spray wax is a constant in both outcomes leaving you will protection if the coating is there or not.
Yeah I think there's a lot of guys that have too much of a tendency to want to top protectants off before I would say it's necessary or even desirable to do so. The topper for me needs to fulfill a function. Am I missing slickness, am I trying to clean up light contamination like spotting, am I trying to revive the hydrophobics of the base protectant? I would have a desire to allow the coatings to fulfill their function until a situation pops up where a topper is acceptable to use. That's the point of choosing that particular base protectant in the first place. One of the good things about coatings, is many of them that I've worked with have been very receptive to being topped with lighter spray protectants without that destroying the features or main function of the coatings. In the case of CQuartz TiO2, after 6 months the first time I applied Bead Maker this was able to greatly improve slickness and hydrophobics, beyond what CQuartz was ever capable of by itself. Counter-intuitive to what one would be led to believe, since Bead Maker is nowhere near as hydrophobic as CQuartz by itself. The two are working together to build a lasting system, Bead Maker is not necessarily masking CQuartz in this case. But I have seen Bead Maker mask products like Polymer Net Shield and Fusso Coat in the short term, reducing their incredible hydrophobic performance. So toppers are suited to be tested for and chosen deliberately to maintain whatever property you're using it for. Polymer Net Shield may begin to degrade in hydrophobics significantly after 3 months but not entirely, so a full strip and reapplication may not be necessary. In this case it would be very appropriate to use Brilliant Shine Detailer in order to really boost the hydrophobics back up, without destroying the protection still left behind by Net Shield. If my goal is to somehow top Polymer Net Shield immediately after I apply it in order to improve slickness, I think a loss in hydrophobics would be a result and I would chose a different base layer protectant rather than Net Shield if short term slickness is a property that I'm really looking for. What I'm skeptical of, is using two heavier types of protectants one after another in order to build a two layer protective system that aren't coatings. CSL + EXO works excellently, but I would be skeptical of Power Lock + Collinite 845 to fully double up on protection, the fear is that the solvents in Collinite may significantly diminish the performance of Power Lock as a base in the process of applying 845 on top. I would much rather use Power Lock and maintain it once situations arise that need to be addressed, using lighter spray toppers. Not to discount the amount of guys that have had great experiences using Power Lock + 845, but that would not be my personal preference. You've got a lot of guys that are more laid back in what they're looking for. You can use Fusso as your durable base protectant and use Bead Maker after every wash. That's not the best way to get the maximum performance out of what Fusso offers in terms of hydrophobics, but you'll definitely boost slickness and keep the paint glossy over the months without completely killing Fusso underneath, and enjoy the process the whole way. At the end of the day, what I'm doing with the car and paint needs to be enjoyable, fun, relaxing, and playing around with different products without maximizing performance as a priority can be a good thing.
MAXIMILAN2QAT - Thanks! That towel is the Gyeon Silk Dryer, I picked it up when they were running a big sale on Autopia. Twisted loop similar to the Griot’s PFM towels, but single sided.
I’m going on about 6 months now on Fusso Coat on my wife’s MDX and it’s beading like the day I applied it. Though it’s garaged and weather here in CA is nice so that may attribute to it. If anything I’m getting bored and annoyed since I can’t “fiddle” with another product. But my point is a good quality sealant can be just as good.
Awesome video Kyle! The Carpro lite seems to be an awesome coating lite product. Impresive 3 months update from it and the contact angle is amazing still. Have you or anyone else used the Carpro Essence as a primer polish and applyied Carpro Lite on it? It's definitely a combo I'm thinking on useing in the future. When the Carpro Lite start to degrade in the performance which topper would you consider to apply? Have mentioned it on the forums and have not any experience with either of the technology of them. But Scangrip released an UV curing lamps line almost a year ago. It's mostly used in the bodyshops when curing paint. Scangrip Nova S I think the name is on the work light size and then they have like the Sunmatch light size for smaller cureing places and even the pen light size for spot repairs curing. They don't build up heat on the paint and are cordless is 2 huge benefits with the UV curing. Wondering if they work on ceramic coatings as well but thinking they should be able to do so. Looking forward to see the next update on the Carpro Lite. And also the 3rd part of the beading vs sheeting thoughts. Of cause also your review and testing on the Turtle Wax Hybrid Solution line of products. What did TW mention on the branding of the new HS line? See that AGO just call it Hybrid Solution as the brand and not a Turtle Wax line of products. Strange if TW chosed to skip the Turtle Wax in the name of the product.
Thanks Tony! I haven't tested out Essence with Lite yet as a primer. I've done short term based testing with Essence as a primer for CQUK compared to a standard polish and didn't notice any hydrophobic change, I definitely need to get a longer term test going with Essence as the base primer to see if CQ Lite's durability would be extended. Need to pick up a new bottle as my Essence has since long expired. To maintain CQ Lite, my first choices would be to stick with Gyeon Cure or Reload, I like Cure as a first choice because it's a bit lighter than Reload, less propensity to be streaky and still plays well with sio2/tio2 coatings. If money is no option then some of my favorites are still Polish Angel High Gloss and Cosmic Spritz as coating toppers. And I've always had good results with Bead Maker as well on top of all the other sio2/tio2 coatings that I've worked with, but I haven't pulled it out to see how it works on CQ Lite yet, my gallon jug is back in Orlando and I'm currently working in Chicago right now with only a handful of products. Your over the counter products like HCW and CMX would also be viable topping options, I wouldn't recommend Seal N Shine as a coating topper as its heaviness really cuts into the strong hydrophobicity of the original coating. The new TW Ceramic sprays (coating, detailer, and Wet Wax) could all three be great options as well, and these will probably be what I will test first on some sections of CQ Lite when they come in next week to see how they all do. As for the branding, I think it's a bit of a throwback to the original Ice line when it was first released, which removed the name "Turtle Wax" in the logo, and they even came out with a new turtle logo which opted to exclude the famous tophat. Eventually they ended up redoing the Ice branding and adding back the Turtle Wax into the logo again with the tophat. So with the premium Hybrid Solutions lineup, they're trying this out again but keeping their main Turtle icon and removing the Turtle Wax name inside. It's undeniably still Turtle Wax, but a premium refreshment of the branding that at this point is so recognizable that they don't even need to put their name into the logo. We'll see how it does, I actually think the design of the new bottles and logo looked awesome, and love how they incorporate colors effectively so that you can easily differentiate which product you're grabbing for. Can't wait to put these through the test to see how they do!
Thanks for the review, hope you continue following up with this product. Really impressed its doing that well after 3 months, if it can keep it up to the 6 months mark Ill certainly end up buying this and coating my secondary vehicles. while on the topic, what steps would be needed to reapply this after its worn out? assuming paint is still in a good condition would a decon wash be sufficient or would a light polish be mandatory?
Hey jhonny, if you're at the 6+ months it might be a good idea to run this through a quick polish if you're planning on reapplying. Or a polish with something like CarPro Essence would be enough to prep it for reapplication. But as long as the paint's in good shape and you feel it doesn't need to be polished, I don't see a problem with a decon and reapplication. Coatings like these are heavy, they don't like oxidized paint but can really latch on well even to coatings that are beginning to die off so long as it's not contaminated heavily with fallout.
one thing i noticed on the cq light is in the spot that lost resistance you did a more of a focused wipe in that area were you cleaned off the area with about 6 or 7 passes compared to the 2 pases on the other parts
Hi Kyle. Thanks for the informative video. Would it be possible to provide a link to the Gilmour spray nozzle you used in your video? Or perhaps the model number. Thank you!
Hey JD, check out the link here for the Gilmour watering nozzle (model 3810): amzn.to/34kDcAx I like the rear trigger version for filming, but they have a handful of different trigger setups that all have that awesome center flood setting.
Cheers Turner! No I would say treat Lite the same way as a true paint coating, try to get a nice indoor environment or apply in the shade if you’re outside. I’ve found that Lite and CQUK were pretty similar in application, you will definitely need to apply some heavier wiping off if you wait too long of a dry time in your environment, so be ready to make adjustments for the best time to begin wiping it off. I would say you can use a variety of different toppers on it, Bead Maker was great for me, Hybrid Ceramic Detailer, even lighter spray detailers would work or you can stick with Reload or Elixir.
Just did the intake manifold gaskets on this E34, replaced the accelerator cable as well, hell of a fun time getting the manifold off but it's running much better now. I've still got the E28 running a bit better currently, will pull the valve cover off this week for an adjustment and double check the O2 sensor on the E34 to see if we can smooth it out a bit more. Love them, the E34 is the 535i like my E28, makes diagnostics a bit easier when I can just pull parts from one to use on the other.
Brewinz - Thanks a bunch! I actually haven’t had a chance to top Lite with Beadmaker, I’ve been away from most of my gear for a few months for work and only brought a handful of gear and products up with me to work with.
Brewinz - Gyeon One, both CQUK and regular CQuartz, Can Coat, Mohs, Blackfire Pro and McKee’s 37 SiO2. I know Matt from OG uses it heavily on top of his Crystal Serum Ultra with EXO without problems. It’s been very versatile, but I’ve seen Sandro’s tests as well where he noticed a pretty significant performance impact on top of the CQuartz coatings after running Beadmaker on top, actually I think you linked me over to that test a while ago. So people are getting different results, but it’s been awesome for me.
Thoughts on using CQL on wheel wells, wheels, and plastic trim. Think it will be durable enough to be worth the time and effort to apply to wheels, wheel wells, and plastic trim? Chemical Resistance is very relevant, I cannot remember the last time that I washed my car with a ph neutral wash.
Excellent review brother. Is 2 layers of Lite look as good or better than 2 layers of uk 3.0? I like you spoke about toppers as well. I was considering beed maker or the last coat version 2 as a topper, but Lite looks awesome without it👍🏻🇺🇸
Thanks Aaron! I haven’t tested 2 layers of CQ Lite yet. I feel like you won’t see much benefit to multiple layers due to previous testing because of how thick the original layer is, and you won’t be able to build up layers that are significantly thicker than one coat, but this is hypothetical. I’m going to continue to run CQ Lite at one coat through the test to see how long it can last on the daily driver. But CQUK has already proven itself well beyond one year of durability with one coat without toppers, it’s performance is unquestionable. As for toppers, Beadmaker has been an outstanding product for a lot of different coatings that I’ve worked with, but I feel that something light like Gyeon Cure could be the perfect coating topper since it’s lighter than Reload, while still producing insane hydrophobics in the short term.
Thanks for the reply and your opinion👍🏻 Here in Florida, with the humidity, heat, rain and bugs, products don’t seem to last as long, so Im trying to figure out the best combos for coating and shine/slickness. Thanks again👍🏻🇺🇸
I recently did a section with two layers of Lite + Gliss, one with just the one layer of Lite, and one with two layers of Lite. The one topped with Gliss is the most "attractive" when the rains fall.
Hey WaxMode, so I would like to give you and everybody an update on my experience with DPC Armor and Shield on both a decontaminated and polished junkyard hood and my daily driver. I am very sad to say that DPC Shield has lasted 6 months going back from June to now and the addition of DPC Armor did not prolong it and in fact DPC Armor on the test hood stopped working after 3 weeks. I would also like to say that my previous test with DPC Armor was rendered void after I remembered that my car had a coating on it already, signifying my results were from the coaring and not DPC Armor. Scott needs to go back to the drawing board and make these products better instead of going to other youtube channels and starting drama. Also WaxMode, have you tried The Last Coat V2? Or TLC V1? How did you like the products if you did? I got a free bottle and haven't gotten a chance to play with it. Thank you for your content.
I was in his Facebook group and posted a question about a product that Pan the Organizer reviewed. His moderators then start mocking and bashing Pan. I suggested they not do that, it wasn't classy. Scott himself then started to attack me, suggesting I was Klan or a Nazi because of the Unknown Comic avatar and the paper bag. Psycho stuff.
Thanks for the feedback Vendeta! Armor's gloss and slickness is great, but I obviously want better hydrophobics and durability out of my maintenance toppers, and he may have produced a winner with KingsGuard from the reports but I haven't purchased it yet to test. I've heard a lot of good feedback from Shield users, some negatives as well but I'm not running it through a durability test, I may test out the updated formula when it's released. I did start initial testing with TLC V1, but I believe they came out with V2 shortly after I started working with it, so I scrapped all testing and never bought the latest batch. My spray nozzle of TLC V1 was leaking like a madman, I almost chucked it halfway across the neighborhood when I realized it was leaking more product on myself and the ground than was actually spraying out of the nozzle. For $40 the bottling and packaging has to be perfect. Great initial water behavior but fizzled out fairly quickly.
Thanks Andy! I haven't tried topping CQuartz yet with a secondary heavy topper like CQ Lite. I've worked with different spray toppers like Bead Maker which worked really well, but I'll have to run some tests to see if CQ Lite can bond well on my test spots that were coated. Can Coat I have topped various Gyeon coatings with great results.
I've been resisting using ceramic coatings since I have a daily driver but last month someone backed into my hood and I had to replace and re paint the hood, unfortunately the company that did the job told me not to polish the surface for 3 months and now I'm curious so maybe I'll try this one instead of CQuartz 3.0. Just to try the water, so to speak.
That's correct, unless the shop has an oven to help bake the paint, the painters usually give a 30-90 day window where you're not supposed to wax/seal/coat the paint to allow the paint to cure and the solvents to outgas properly. Some products are fully safe to apply on freshly painted surfaces, but best to abide by the painter's recommendation especially if they warranty their work. Let me know how CQ Lite works for you once the paint is done curing.
Let me know how it works out! I don't have access to the Thunderbird anymore but I'm keeping an eye on the section that I have it on the blue Honda and it's doing great.
Hey monochrom! Thanks for watching, I’m not sure where you can grab this from in Europe, but reach out to XaronFR here on UA-cam, he’s got a great testing channel as well from Germany who has tested CQuartz Lite and should be able to point you to the right direction on where to buy it from locally. Let me know how it works out for you if you try it out!
@@WaxMode Thx for your advice... But XaronFR (I 'detailed' my first car at the same time, Xaron played in the Kindergarten) and all the other german detailing channels are pretty bad... Only the US and UK channels are outstanding - and so, here I am ☺ The sad thing is, in US you have so many new products every month - and only 10% of them make the leap to europe... 😅 In best case, I can buy it in UK or Netherlands... And bam, 6 months later, you can buy it in Germany - perhaps...😂 Great work, keep it up, best regards from Munich/Germany (and sorry for my englisch ;-) )
I'm definitely a fan of both! I like how the bottle of CQ Lite has a standard built-in restrictor cap so you can control the flow of the coating when pouring, I'm not a fan of the spray nozzles on Can Coat because you have to clean these out really well or the coating will cure and clog them up rendering them useless on future applications.
I recommend to seal that cap up on the coating as soon as you place your drops or line on the applicator, this way the bottle doesn't stay open for very long. I store them all inside the house on the shelf, and most of the coatings I've purchased have stayed in good visible shape even after being opened for years. CQ Lite I first opened about 5 months ago, and used it recently on another car with excellent results. I haven't pulled out CQUK in a while so it will be interesting to test to see if I can still get great performance after last opening well over a year ago.
The Sio2 Enhanced McKee's 37 was an incredibly capable coating. I felt it was a bit under the performance of what CQUK would offer, but I do have a small section on the front bumper of the blue Honda that has not diminished after all of these years while being topped with various sprays. I'll have to reach out to Nick at M37 to see if he will let me try out some of his new lineup. I would expect their latest version of the coating to exceed their previous Sio2 enhanced version, they're selling the new one at a more expensive price point.
WaxMode I feel you and I was about to pull the trigger on this but I decided to try out the Jade Ice , I still may buy this because at 3 months this is really effective without toppers . But at the same time I’m still wondering about McKee’s as well. So many products .
It’s been almost a year since this video, how’s this holding up? I have a car with CQUK 3.0 at about 2 years still performing okay (~75% topped with BM) but it could use a polish. Something that lasts around a year seems more appealing to me at this point for a well maintained car. I realized it doesn’t make sense to pay for a full coating every year just because I want to run a light polish when CQ Lite offers multiple applications for the same price. Would you say the level of protection is on par with 3.0?
The owner sent me some pictures recently and it's definitely holding up strong for him, some depreciation but otherwise very good performance still. But he has since been keeping it garaged and although he drives it regularly, this is not a daily driver. I'm at 7 months on the blue test Honda that is ungaraged and it has definitely depreciated to some extent, still strong but clearly not the fresh insane performance. One of the main culprits is this will clog up with hard water spotting, and as that accumulates it will sap some of the hydrophobics away. I also have clearcoat failure towards the top section of the quarter panel that's really starting to show through that was occurring before this was applied on top, which has further sapped hydrophobic performance. CQUK is definitely more stout compared to CQ Lite, I would have liked to see what CQ Lite could have been capable of if I had been maintaining it regularly with toppers. I think it really could have maintained a much more consistent hydrophobic performance as a result, possibly rivaling CQUK and CQuartz TiO2 at the same timeframes under a year. I believe I first opened this bottle around May 2019, and within the last few weeks this bottle has just now really started to turn over into jelly, whereas some of my other bottles of CQUK were opened 3+ years ago that are still workable and haven't jelled or crystallized over yet. I would recommend to try and use the entire bottle of CQ Lite up within 6-8 months if you go that route. Tough decision to try and pick one, but if I only had one car that I was dealing with I'd most likely stick with CQUK 3.0.
@@WaxMode a shame the leftover bottle only lasted a little over a year. This also happened to me with a bottle of mckee’s paint coating that was half full. I doubt I would use the whole bottle of cq lite within that time frame. Sounds like the bottle size is geared towards someone doing multiple cars. Gyeon Cancoat was something I was thinking about also but the thought of worrying about overspray bugs me. Your Wolfgang ceramic spray was intriguing as well. I’m kind of shocked it had such staying power. Do you think it would hang with these other “coating lite” category?
Durability is great on CarPro Lite, I've been keeping tabs with the owner of the Thunderbird when he washes it and says it's still been holding up well in some spots, but he keeps it stored during the winters and occasionally drives it when the weather warms up. Here's the thing, the durability of Lite is still underneath CQUK, the hydrophobic effect falls off at a faster rate for sure. Yet it's just about the same effort to apply as a full coating. If you're only working on your personal cars, I would be more tempted to just go for the full blown CQUK and scrap Lite as an option because you're paying around the same price. You only have a limited amount of time before that 4oz becomes useless in the bottle, so if you're not using it up within a few months, you might as well not sacrifice the durability, especially if you need to go through the same amount of prep to apply as you would a full coating. If I was CarPro, I'd probably offer a 1oz option for Lite and run it at a much lower pricepoint. The other issue with Lite, is Gyeon CanCoat outclasses it in this baby coating category. CanCoat is easier to apply and arguably a better shelf life, with still an excellent durability rating. So if I did want something a bit easier to apply than a full coating while being able to sacrifice some durability, CanCoat is the answer. Just watch the overspray when you're applying it. Griot's 3-in-1 is probably the best over-the-counter spray sealant that you can get at the moment, but still leagues below what I would consider the performance of CanCoat. Griot's is easier to apply than CanCoat but the rate at which its performance falls off I would say is much faster than CanCoat.
Hi I’ll be purchasing cquartz lite to try. Do I have to use a polish like carpro essence or reflect or can I use another polish? What polish apart from essence would you suggest?
You can use any polish with coatings to prep, Essence or Reflect are good options. I like Sonax Perfect Finish, Meguiar’s M210, Griot’s Perfecting Cream, 3D One and others.
Hey bro...finally applied cquartz lite yesterday and totally amazed at the finish...literally like a glass finish. My only issue is that I saw a few high spots and the coating is already fully cured. How would you suggest I fix these high spots?
You could use Lite as a topper, but I wouldn't want to. I'm approaching 2 years of strong durability with just one coat of CQUK 3.0, using only spray toppers for maintenance. Within the last few months I've been working with Meguiar's Hybrid Ceramic Detailer for maintenance, you can see the latest performance on CQUK 3.0 towards the end of my Wolfgang Uber Ceramic Spray Coating 10-Day Update video. If I were going to use CQ Lite as a topper, it probably wouldn't be at the first 6 months of life for CQUK, I'd prep lightly with CarPro Eraser after washing the paint and apply Lite right on top as normal. The issue with Lite is it's just about as much effort to apply and remove as CQUK itself, so I would not being expecting any significant ease of use advantage at all.
The owner sent me a video last month and it's holding up quite well. But he had it stored away during the Chicago winter in the garage and took it out during the spring, no toppers used, and it's still very hydrophobic. I currently have a section of CQuartz Lite on the rear quarter panel of the blue test Honda going on over 3.5 months of durability, ungaraged without toppers. You can see those results in my last video with the Hybrid Solutions products here: ua-cam.com/video/nQJkWcoqbXA/v-deo.html
If you give it 12-24 hours to keep it dry, this should be plenty of time for the coating to set. Even if it does get wet shortly after application, it doesn't completely ruin the coating, it can continue to cure.
This is time and paint dependent. Polishing is always the best way to prep the paint prior to applying a new coating. Sometimes you can get away with the coating performing fine without polishing prior, and sometimes it is crucial in order to get the coating to perform.
The owner just recently sent me some footage after a recent wash without any toppers, and it's held up amazingly, but he also keeps it garaged and it was packed away for the winter up in the Chicago area. I've got a section of CQ Lite going on over 3 months of durability right now on the blue test Honda right now holding up great without toppers. Should have an update video around the 4 month mark.
Love the channel but fusso coat is alot stronger then that coating and it may not last 12 months but it’s definitely shown strong at 9 and pushed to 10 months
I just put Fusso Light (old version) on one of the test cars that will go through a long term test. Overall the coatings like CQUK, standard CQuartz, Blackfire, Can Coat, these were all holding up better than Fusso on my first go around without maintenance. This time I may maintain it just to see what kind of performance we can get.
The owner just sent me some pictures and it's definitely holding up for him, still beading and sheeting nicely with some depreciation but nothing bad at all. He has been keeping it garaged and although it's driven regularly, it's not a daily driver. I'm right at 7 months on the blue test Honda with CQ Lite and it has depreciated without being topped, still going strong but I would definitely recommend regular maintenance topping if the car is ungaraged.
It is, and I think how hard it is to wipe off can be environment dependent. It's no where near as easy as a wax or sealant, and I would on par or slightly easier than CQUK 3.0 coating, but not by much. I don't like to wipe on anything more than about a 2x2ft section before wiping off, otherwise it will be much more difficult to wipe off clean. This is definitely more coating based than any other the other "lighter" style of coatings on the market.
WaxMode definitely you’re absolutely right because moonlight is a lot easier to use. But with moonlight you gotta use a topper. And I haven’t seen it last as long and look that good. Or I should say look that good for that long. At the 90 day mark a lot of folks are just looking for beading. But this however looks finished longer. That’s why I like this over a few of the lite type of coatings. And you can top this with F4 in about a week. And be set for a good while.
Hey Nico! It's possible CarPro could have revised their expiration dates after hearing feedback from users of potential shorter than expected shelf life in the plastic bottle, but I would only be guessing. I can say that I would definitely recommend using your bottle up before a year after opening it, after checking mine recently it has now fully turned to ceramic jelly and I think it's been about a year and a half since opening.
@@WaxMode Otherwise, if lite is still quite liquid in the plastic bottle, but when applied it is a little more sticky than normal, is this a sign of the onset of expiration? Thank you in advance
It's a tough choice and I need more durability results from Lite to really knock the decision down. I would be balancing my polishing schedule with the performance of the coatings, if I can get Lite at a strong performance between 9-12 months of durability, then it's the smart one to go with. Most likely I'll have some lighter wash induced marring that I would want to clean up with the polisher at the 9-12 months mark that would negate the stronger durability of CQUK 3.0. And I also have more than enough in the bottle to run further applications of Lite so long as the shelf life holds up, and it seems to be doing so. Then again, when I go through the long process of perfecting the paint, I have a tendency to want to use the coating that's going to give me the best protection and durability stats, and I might be bored and would want to try a different coating out when I decide to recoat, so the additional amount in CQ Lite would be negated in that situation. Right now I know CQUK 3.0 is an absolute beast of a coating, checks a lot of the boxes for me. We'll have to continue to see how well Lite holds up.
I'm leaning towards CQuartz Lite, because I like the non-spray application method so I don't have to deal with clogged sprayers. Both of these are close in initial performance.
@@rudykwan9196 CanCoat is definitely easier to apply and buff off for me. CQuartz Lite feels like a true coating to buff out, tacky just like CQUK on the final wipe.
This is just a 3 month update, you should get 6-12 months out of CQ Lite. At 9 months it’s a good idea to run some sort of decon with a regular coating, and if you want to take care of swirls then you’ll have to cut through the coating anyways. So if the shelf life of Lite holds up then you don’t have to rebuy a coating after 9 months to tackle through some swirls.
This one is a bit long winded, here are the time stamps below for those that want to skip around topics. Be sure to leave your feedback if you've used CQuartz Lite before to let everyone know how it's been working for you!

WaxMode you should definitely compare Lite to CanCoat. I’ve been using CanCoat and it’s pretty awesome
Hey Ryan, definitely check out Mike G's videos for CQ Lite, he's got it side by side with CanCoat running an extended durability test without toppers: ua-cam.com/video/zFsmNi9zTVA/v-deo.html ua-cam.com/video/RWJdYN_saM8/v-deo.html
Mike does awesome reviews and durability tests, he's a fantastic resource for detailing!
@@WaxMode Yeah when SEMA comes around, so many new product reveals!!
That is incredible for the price especially. It actually lasts 6 months unlike some waxes that say they do but do not at all.
So how many months did you/are you getting?
How long did it end up lasting for you Pan?
Same results from my experience as well.
How did it go after a long term test?
How is the gloss
They hydrophobics are absolutely insane with the Light.. have not attempted a coating yet but light seems right up my alley! Great video man!
Excellent video! Man, your commentary throughout your demonstrations is second to none! 👍
Thanks Idtriton! I need to up my game though, bring in product applications and grab a tripod and learn how to actually edit the videos. I really want to start reviewing polishers as well, I've got so many polishers and polishes and compounds, need to put those to good use.
Great video! It was great meeting and talking with you. I need to try CQuartz Lite and I need to get that Gilmore water nozzle. Haha
WaxMode I really like the flood setting on that sprayer vs the cheap ones I always buy.
My dpc shield turned into a white blob in less than 3 months in a controlled environment, out of sunlight. I was disappointed BUT I contacted Scott and he will make it right. He will send a new bottle, free of charge when the new stock comes in
That's awesome that they're going to send you a new bottle! Looking forward to hearing the reports and reviews once the next version is available.
WaxMode hows the application on Lite? Wipe on, wipe off?
What's up Kyle?! I'd love to give this a try! Looks really good!
Thanks Phil! If you're a fan of CQUK, then you'll definitely like it. The real test for me is to see how long we can get CQ Lite to last without topping, anything close to 1 year and we have a seriously good product on our hands at 5oz.
WaxMode that’s amazing stuff. I’ll definitely get some!
@@MirandaDetailing looking forward for your review
Another good video. Lite seems good. Also spoke to Mike G myself and yeah, his results say the product is good and good value
This against tac systems moonlight would be good
Great video. Thanks for this one.
Keep them coming!
Great Video! Gonna get this and let's see more product testing!!
Thanks Andrew, let me know how it holds up for you if you decide to pick it up!
great video Loach , what is your Purple drying towel name it looks nice.
MAXIMILAN2QAT - Thanks! That towel is the Gyeon Silk Dryer, I picked it up when they were running a big sale on Autopia. Twisted loop similar to the Griot’s PFM towels, but single sided.
Thank You
I’m going on about 6 months now on Fusso Coat on my wife’s MDX and it’s beading like the day I applied it. Though it’s garaged and weather here in CA is nice so that may attribute to it. If anything I’m getting bored and annoyed since I can’t “fiddle” with another product. But my point is a good quality sealant can be just as good.
Difference between a coating and a sealant, bird poop will most likely etch your paint a ceramic coating will help greatly bam
Thank you!
Hey JD, check out the link here for the Gilmour watering nozzle (model 3810): amzn.to/34kDcAx
I like the rear trigger version for filming, but they have a handful of different trigger setups that all have that awesome center flood setting.
Thanks for the great content man! Can Lite be applied outdoors? And can I use any SiO2 sealant as a topper, or is it best to stay in brand?
@@WaxMode thanks man, always love ur stuff!
Glad to see you drive an e34 brotha!
Interesting! What do you recommend for beginners?
Hey bud, how does Beadmaker work as a topper with CQ Lite? Great video as usual.
Brewinz - Thanks a bunch! I actually haven’t had a chance to top Lite with Beadmaker, I’ve been away from most of my gear for a few months for work and only brought a handful of gear and products up with me to work with.
WaxMode cool. What coatings do you know work well with beadmaker?
Brewinz - Gyeon One, both CQUK and regular CQuartz, Can Coat, Mohs, Blackfire Pro and McKee’s 37 SiO2. I know Matt from OG uses it heavily on top of his Crystal Serum Ultra with EXO without problems. It’s been very versatile, but I’ve seen Sandro’s tests as well where he noticed a pretty significant performance impact on top of the CQuartz coatings after running Beadmaker on top, actually I think you linked me over to that test a while ago. So people are getting different results, but it’s been awesome for me.
WaxMode that’s right, I did send you that video...! Thanks.
Thanks for the reply and your opinion👍🏻
Here in Florida, with the humidity, heat, rain and bugs, products don’t seem to last as long, so Im trying to figure out the best combos for coating and shine/slickness.
And, he's not a very nice guy. Just saying...
@@eddiel7033 No he's not, i'm quite disturbed by the amount of other channels i'm subbed to and in their videos he's commenting very rude things.
@@eddiel7033 I've noticed how he's not all there. He definitely has a few screws loose.
Great videos. Just an FYI,applied cq lite over 3.0 after a 24 hour cure. Didn’t work out well. U ever try layering coatings after full cure?
Thanks Andy! I haven't tried topping CQuartz yet with a secondary heavy topper like CQ Lite. I've worked with different spray toppers like Bead Maker which worked really well, but I'll have to run some tests to see if CQ Lite can bond well on my test spots that were coated. Can Coat I have topped various Gyeon coatings with great results.
WaxMode thnx. For the response! Looking forward to seeing the next video 👍🏻
Great bro... How about clarity cquartz gliss between lite??
Please compare to tac Moonlight !! Both entry level coatings
TLC2 vs LITE vs SNS PLEASE !!!
@@WaxMode Will do.
So glad I seen this video just bought some
Let me know how it works out! I don't have access to the Thunderbird anymore but I'm keeping an eye on the section that I have it on the blue Honda and it's doing great.
Great stuff - great channel!
When I can buy it in Europe?
Greetings from Germany!
Only the US and UK channels are outstanding - and so, here I am ☺
The sad thing is, in US you have so many new products every month - and only 10% of them make the leap to europe... 😅 In best case, I can buy it in UK or Netherlands... And bam, 6 months later, you can buy it in Germany - perhaps...😂
Great work, keep it up, best regards from Munich/Germany (and sorry for my englisch ;-) )
I always click immediately on your vids!
Thanks for watching Brandon!
Gyeon can coat was great but cquartz lite is amazing
I'm definitely a fan of both! I like how the bottle of CQ Lite has a standard built-in restrictor cap so you can control the flow of the coating when pouring, I'm not a fan of the spray nozzles on Can Coat because you have to clean these out really well or the coating will cure and clog them up rendering them useless on future applications.
What’s the best way to store the cquartz LITE and 3.0 ?
I recommend to seal that cap up on the coating as soon as you place your drops or line on the applicator, this way the bottle doesn't stay open for very long. I store them all inside the house on the shelf, and most of the coatings I've purchased have stayed in good visible shape even after being opened for years. CQ Lite I first opened about 5 months ago, and used it recently on another car with excellent results. I haven't pulled out CQUK in a while so it will be interesting to test to see if I can still get great performance after last opening well over a year ago.
WaxMode sounds good , thanks for the info !
Wonder how long this will last on wheels that are maintained well
does this coating last longer than gyeon can coat?
I’m gonna try this out , if I can get 3 months out of it that’s great for the price.
Did you retest after 6, 9 , and 12 months? If yes, what is the outcome?
you put 2 layers? or 1
Interesting , I wonder if the McKeeys coating is as effective ? This is impressive .
So what’s the final verdict on CarPro Lites durability? Debating on this or Griots 3in1 that’s been lasting about a year as well but cost much less.
@@WaxMode thank for you the great and honest explanation. I’ll look more into CanCoat Evo. Thank you!
How long did the Lite last total?
Hi I’ll be purchasing cquartz lite to try. Do I have to use a polish like carpro essence or reflect or can I use another polish? What polish apart from essence would you suggest?
You can use any polish with coatings to prep, Essence or Reflect are good options. I like Sonax Perfect Finish, Meguiar’s M210, Griot’s Perfecting Cream, 3D One and others.
@WaxMode Hey thanks so much bro...very much appreciated 👍🏼👍🏼
No problem, let me know how you like it once you get it on the paint!
Will definitely give you my feedback👍🏼👍🏼. Thanks again.
Hey bro...finally applied cquartz lite yesterday and totally amazed at the finish...literally like a glass finish.
My only issue is that I saw a few high spots and the coating is already fully cured. How would you suggest I fix these high spots?
Is this just one coat of the product? or two? Thanks Danny
Just one coat, most of the coatings that I test are at one coat applied and I still get great performance out of them.
hi WaxMode, can you use carpro lite as a topcoat for carpro 3 and if so what might be the best way to accomplish this? Thanks
@@WaxMode that is good to know. Thanks
Great info
No more updates? I'm curious how long this will last.
Thanks for the update!
If I apply this Saturday and it rains Sunday will it ruin the coating?
If you give it 12-24 hours to keep it dry, this should be plenty of time for the coating to set. Even if it does get wet shortly after application, it doesn't completely ruin the coating, it can continue to cure.
@@WaxMode cool thanks man. I'll put reload on it too. I appreciate the reply
Can we get an update on this?
I almost forgot about this one! Car was tucked away for the winters by the owner, but I might be able to do an update soon.
Need to polish on every reapplication?
This is time and paint dependent. Polishing is always the best way to prep the paint prior to applying a new coating. Sometimes you can get away with the coating performing fine without polishing prior, and sometimes it is crucial in order to get the coating to perform.
Hey man, can we get a durability update for this? :)
A bro just thought I’d ask how far did this product go ? Still think it looked so dam good at 90 days.
@@WaxMode Thanks man. I really think this is such a good bang for your buck.
Just used it today , was kinda hard to wipe off.
Cquartz lite package costs 135 usd in the Philippines. Thats stupidly expensive
Weird your CQuartz lite has an expiration date of 2 years. Me she is 1 years old! ??. Why, in your opinion ?. thank you in advance
@@WaxMode thanks my friend 👍
@@WaxMode Otherwise, if lite is still quite liquid in the plastic bottle, but when applied it is a little more sticky than normal, is this a sign of the onset of expiration?
Thank you in advance
UK 3.0 vs Lite. What are your thoughts?
@@WaxMode thanks for this answer. Doesn't make my decision easier thou 😁
I ain't gay, but you have a great "radio voice"
this or cancoat?
I'm leaning towards CQuartz Lite, because I like the non-spray application method so I don't have to deal with clogged sprayers. Both of these are close in initial performance.
Thx
@@WaxMode in term ease of use application which one do u think is easier? Can coat or cq lite to wipe on wipe off?
@@rudykwan9196 CanCoat is definitely easier to apply and buff off for me. CQuartz Lite feels like a true coating to buff out, tacky just like CQUK on the final wipe.
This is too much to do every 3 months. This is waste of time and money.
It is better to pay 30 more and get the 3-5 years protection.
Both of those products have very poor Hydrophobic properties.
DPC is complete garbage and terrible customer service
