@@julianrichy5830 We don't deserve to be loved and redeemed as God is willing, but God is merciful, loving, generous, righteous, uplifting, and not willing that any should perish. Don't you know the wickedness of the flesh, the curse of sin? God redeems us even if when we make so many mistakes. Part of being a human in this world is learning how little we really are. Humility is an important thing for a Christian. We must know our place and fear God. In my own experience, I'll never be worthy or deserving of the way God treats me, but he loves me nonetheless. Jesus died on the cross I deserved to give me the freedom that was his.

Tristen, Tristen,Tristen, 😧😧😧please don't take this offensive but you sound like you have extremely low self esteem. When are babies born our responsibility to take care of him or her? If you were to put your child in the playpen and then go to Disney world for two weeks, won't that child be dead when you come back, & won't you go to jail because he/she was your responsibility? We never begged God to be out here but since we are here isn't it his responsibility to take care of us. Please don't say yes but when we become adults where left to make adult decisions. Truth be told if we never existed it would be impossible for us to make a mistake right or wrong. I simply just& won't understand God in this life time I unfortunately

I don't have low self-esteem, I have very high esteem for God almighty. God is God, he is not bound by anything but his own word. He has no obligation to take care of us. sometimes people tread over his word like it's garbage and expect God to bless them abundantly like his word is some kind of joke. All I mean is that there is nothing we can do to deserve the amount of love God has for us.

I just read this today, and yes, Genesis 11:6 confused me greatly. Now, given the background you've provided, I'm reading it as the same sarcasm you can read in Job 38-41. God not only had to "come down" to see this mighty tower that was supposed to reach to the heavens, but upon seeing it, he's so "impressed", that he says "nothing will be impossible for them". It seems to be another slam on how laughably tiny their tower is (and how powerless man is in comparison to God).

@@johngriffin2360 Wow, this is an old post. :)
Probably because the people were now all working together with a goal to become famous rather than knowing him. This was a direct challenge to his authority in that they wanted fame and glory instead of bringing it to him. So, although it never would have come close to succeeding, it was still causing a feedback loop of pride in their hearts.
My interpretation is that God was being a Father, watching his kids build a cardboard fort so they could be famous (or get out from his authority), so God rolls his eyes at them, sent confusion upon them, something so they couldn't work together. Then they would abandon their plans, and some of them would end up seeking him rather than seeking their own way.
Maybe I'm wrong, but that's how I'm seeing this.

Excellent video, we just discussed Gen 11 today in our fellowship gathering. Babel is so misunderstood in modern Christianity. If people realized the dramatic regathering of the disinherited nations from Gen 11 that occurs in Acts 2 at Pentecost, they would never read the NT again the same way. The good news of the Gospel is that those “called not my people” would once again be called “my people” - the crushing of the serpent and the reclaiming of all nations to become God’s inheritance through Abraham’s seed (singular)....its amazing. The Gospel is such good news and the story of the Bible is amazing when you understand the ANE and Hebrew literary style and how they wrote polemically against pagans. Simply amazing inspired Word of God...breathed for us, as life, just as Adam had life breathed into him and just like Jesus entered amongst his disciples and breathed on them that they might receive the Holy Spirit. Glorious! Hallelujah to the One YHWH who alone is worthy.

Tower of Babel was at Eridu. The first city and home of the worlds oldest and largest ziggurat. This ziggurat was never completed and abandoned for 3000 years... wonder why?
The ziggurat was dedicated to the god ENKI. Meaning Lord of the Earth ( a title Jesus gave Satan)
ENKI was also the lord of the abyss and taught forbidden wisdom to mankind in the sumerian mythology.

I use it as a tool to reconstruct my faith. Its like how a detective solves a case. They gather all the evidence and eye witness accounts and review it all to piece together what really happened.
Deutoronomy 32:8 talks about how at babel God divorces the world as their God. Then assigns his sons of god.. lower g gods or elohim as rulers and gods of these nations. This is how paganism started. They were supposed to help humanity, but evidence from psalm 82 proves they became corrupt and made the people worship them instead.
The enuma elish and eridu genesis claim the annunaki came from Mount Hermon. Genesis 6 implies the mountain the sons of god decended on was mount hermon. Why?
because they always replicate the creator. Eden was a mountain garden. A mount of assembly where divine council meetings took place with spirit beings and humanity.
Babel was a man made looking mountain, wanting to create a divine assembly and holy mountain of their own.
Mount Hermon was the divine assembly meeting place for these fallen angels where they made a pact to take human wives.
If you look at the history of mount hermon, you will find a number of pagan temples on it, as well as the grotto of pan.. the roman goat god of debauchery and sex.
The head angel to have decended was Azazel.. a goat god.
funnily enough, there is also a united nations base at the top of the mountain. Another modern day mount of assembly.
This is also where the transfiguration of Christ took place.

    Good video, IP!
There are some other interesting angles to how the Tower of Babel story is related in the Bible. For instance, there is a play on words when the people at Babel say "Let us make a name for ourselves."
The word for "name" in Hebrew is "shem," which is also the name of the son of Noah who had the divine blessing. If you go back a chapter, you see that Babel was built by Nimrod, a Hamite. So when the people say "Let us make a name/Shem for ourselves," the text is communicating a double meaning. It means that they are seeking personal fame and glory, of course, but also that they are Hamites trying appropriate the divine blessing of Shem through their own effort.
This ties in very nicely with the points you made that they are trying to get God to "come down" through their own power. And of course there's a double-meaning there too. They do get God to "come down," but He does it on His own terms and for His own purposes, which are antithetical to what they were trying to manipulate him into doing.
Also, notice that in Genesis 10, Babel is said to be the first of several cities that Nimrod built, and the beginning of his kingdom. In other words, he was building an empire, and Babel was that empire's beginning and power center. This puts Genesis 11 in perspective, and explains the people's fears of "being scattered over the face of the earth." The process described in Genesis 10 was underway, where the descendants of Noah's sons were spreading out around the land, and beginning to form their own different tongues. The people of Babel sought to halt that process by building an empire that would keep the (known) world united under a single language, which they hoped to do by appropriating divine power.
And just as God inverted the purpose of the tower by "coming down" in a way that was antithetical to what the people of Babel intended, so He inverted the purpose of their city and empire by using the occasion to confuse their speech, thereby changing it from a means of preventing the natural division of language to a means of *accelerating* it.

THANK YOU! This was THE last big puzzle piece that was giving me a lot of trouble with having a comprehensive model for interpreting Biblical history and secular archeological claims on human origins concordantly. I've concluded Old Earth and Old Humanity is right and without the bounds of Biblical interpretation, but I was so stuck on Babel. If the events at Babel were punishment for failure to disperse, yet humanity had largely dispersed already by the 4000 BC, then it makes no sense! And due to the "fired bricks" I couldn't move Babel back in time to a point before humanity dispersed. Looking at Babel as a local event while other languages already existed far away and looking at it as punishment for distorting God rather than failing to disperse solve that problem.
Your videos have helped with a number of other apologetics issues that kept me up at night to. Thank you!

Fun fact: Warad-Sin is the Sumerian version of Eri-Aku, aka Arioch of Genesis 14. Also, at 12:37 - 25 sheep daily for Anu is a TON. Considering from the Persepolis Fortification Tablets centuries later under Darius, royalty like princesses would get 1/3 of a sheep per month, 25 sheep daily means there were dozens if not hundreds of priests and other personnel. Not to mention the oxen, again daily. That's a huge amount when you consider it comparatively

The problem with rejecting the old textual tradition is that all the near eastern religious perspectives you discussed come *after Babel*, so they could have reasonably attempted to "storm heaven" if they were thinking God was limited, and *then* once Babel happen, people realized they could not attempt to take heaven, so they intend to bring heaven down to them thus causing the religious culture of the region.

    1. Reread it. I was able to do it during the Sabbath observance (Matthew 24:20). The sin? Not observing Sabbath. The previous Cain and Abel comparison: controlling Temper, having patience, friendly competition, the 3 will perfect religious observance. 2. The sin was not about the construction of the Tower. The sin was their "imagination" and neglect of a day of rest to worship HaShem. 3. The "imagination" was a compounding of neglecting a day of observance and equating themselves to HaShem Elohim through constructing a tower not dedicated to him but themselves. 4. The Tower then became an idol in their minds. It was built with their hands but the imagination could also build idols. It was also a forecast of Nebuchadnezzar's idol of a man.
