4:34 Ranger is everything someone wants for a campaign where the DM pays attention to things like when the party last ate and whether the terrain is difficult or not, plus we have ranged weapons, double-wielding in close combat, and magic!
I think the reason behind why the barbarian wasn't an S tier might have been because they're so predictable. This can be changed by going the wild magic barbarian path. Every time you rage, you may just randomly teleport 20ft. above your enemy, or be able to casually throw your greatsword, or how about creating tiny magic bombs, or making your weapon just deal force damage. You never know which you'll get, so it gives the barbarian an element of unpredictability.
ive never been so conflicted looking at a tier list as im just simply confused how something is simultaneously right about certain things and then takes a 180 5 seconds later
The real answer to what classes are the best is: Whichever ones you want to play! Every class has its own strengths and weaknesses, and all provide unique roleplay opportunities, so play whatever is the most fun! If you're feeling damage (like me) you should try Oath of Vengeance Paladin and Echo Knight Fighter multiclass. Against a single target, you're basically a blender lmao
My tier list: S: Sorcerer, Warlock A: Druid, Cleric, Artificer, Paladin B: Monk, Wizard, Bard C: Rogue, Ranger D: Barbarian, Fighter It's ranked on how interesting I find the classes conceptually, generally not counting subclasses. S tiers are extremely and intrinsically compelling to me, conceptually. A tiers are just really solid. It doesn't take much to get the ball rolling on an interesting character concept. B tiers have that mystical dedication that gives them *_some_* interesting spin. C tiers take quite some work to make compelling and unique, but they mesh well with certain kinds of adventures well enough to have something going for them. D tiers are really difficult for me to come up with interesting concepts for-- especially when put next to the other classes. What? "Mechanics"? "Utility"? "Damage"? "Combat"? Who cares about that stuff? Make a character concept with cool RP first, and figure out the rest... **handwave** ...eventually.
Going with mechanics and agreeing with the concept of having fun, this is my tier-list: S: Sorcerer, Rogue [extremely powerful, fun and easy to play] A: Artificial, Warlock, Paladin [fun and decent fighters, but it's hard to unlock their full potential] B: Fighter, Barbarian, Cleric [solid, calm and reliable] C: Bard, Ranger, Monk [limited at their mechanics and stereotypes, not great, not enough fun] D: Druid, Wizard [why use them?] P.S. BTW, I'm really curios, how did you put Fighter lower than Wizard? It's most of time just an old man or scientist, while Fighters gather all the archetypes for brute force without magic, like swordmaster, veteran, hunter, guardian, marine and many others.
@@andreyraven5316 I think I just find arcane study more compelling than martial study, and that colours my opinions and biases on classes. I mean, in a world with magic, someone with a focus on the mundane is going feel... well, mundane. Ordinary, even. As a result, it takes a lot more effort for me to make them compelling for me. Really, though, anything from B-D I find to be on the more difficult side when it comes to making characters that are both unique _and_ compelling. ...Now that I think about it, though, I think part of why I put Fighter at the bottom is that it's the most broad class. Other classes generally have some intrinsic flavour to build off of, whereas Fighters are written as noticably vague. They're good with weapons. How did they gain this ability to attack well with weapons? Take a wild guess. Oh, practicing? Yeah, I figured. Anything else? No? Okay. Other classes get the imagination going by leaving blanks for the player to fill in. (What is the source of your magic, and how did you get it? Who is your god/patron, and how did you gain their boons? What is your oath and what galvanized you to take it on?) Fighters are just one big blank. There's no intrinsic spin or modus operandi. It's *_just_* martial weapon (any). It's a flavourless, mundane blank slate. It's possible to make a Fighter compelling, absolutely... but every other class has that easier.
I feel like this list must be assuming 5th level at MOST. A rogue is incredibly easy for a high CR spellcaster to shut down completely. All it takes is the enemy wizard catching one glimpse of them and now your rogue is subject to being forcecaged, then microwaved by sickening radiance next turn with no recourse. Of course as a DM I would find that too mean, but really any martial is gonna be utter dogwater in the face of a competent caster at high level.
@@3of6mylove yeah, played a high level one shot where it was pvp, the cleric cast animate object, the objects have blindsight, so i couldn't hide from them
By the gods, actually giving the ranger class some props. I've been saying forever that if you build a Ranger the right way, you've got a jack of all trades who any party would love to have.
Ranger's get a lot of hate because of their worst subclass, but they are really fun. They're also the only class whose starting equipment can include a Longbow instead of a Shortbow. My favorite Ranger I've built was a Half-Elf Ranger with Gloomstalker subclass who mostly only comes out at night, because of the 3rd level ability Umbral sight which increases Darkvision range, but more importantly, makes you invisible to anything that relies on darkvision to see you in darkness, which means you get advantage to attacking them, and they get disadvantage to attacking you.
Fun Druid idea that I have for one of my back-up characters: a Reborn Lizardfolk who took Circle of the Moon and who's basically just a living dinosaur skeleton. He can use his Wild Shape to only turn into prehistoric Beasts and other animals that were around that time (such as sharks) and every time he transforms, his bones crack into shape as the nervous and muscular systems form around him before being covered in skin.
I was playing kobold druid with crow companion, it was really fun. He wasn't like other druids who love nature and want to befriend animals no matter what, if they left him alone he left them alone but if you wanna fight I will either run away or fight to the death

My most fun druid was civilized "Tarzan", older druid who got completely civilized and lived a normal life in city, only very relucantly relearning and using his innate druid powers for story purposes... He was wearing fedora and suit the for most of campaing :D
as a cleric, I am slightly offended, but also find this relatable. (kinda) honestly sometimes I’m actually excited to play my cleric and help support the party, sometimes I’m even able to get some action with monsters and things as well. plenty of situations when I’ve had to save the party though. Those were not very fun sometimes.
I play a smooth talking, level headed, sexually abstinent Bard. Easily S tier with the way he can convince even the most stubborn people to do things they don't want to
I use to play nothing but sorcerers because they're an easy class to understand and you don't have to deal with books or patrons you just know spells. Then I played a Rouge. Best decision in my life most fun I've ever had in a dnd campaign. Currently playing a Warlock in pathfinder 2e as a yugioh abridged reference. Good list would put sorcerers up higher but thats just me.
As a barbarian, I single handedly carried my entire party (6 other people) and had to take on a young green dragon by myself at level 3 because the rest of my party was already nearly dead. Barbarians are great 👍
Ranger can't be better of fighter or bard. Druid is an A, cause i pvpd on it paladind and fighter and won. On lvl2 it can turn into deinonichus to get multiattack4, 26hp, and put some enchnment spells on himself, also create own d8 weapon which he will be proficient with. And sneaky snake.
Idea is good, but you need to make clear what criteria you use to put classes in which tier. Since in some you speak about abilities, and for some you use more "personal opinion" approach, like with druid or fighter. Also my tier list is like almost reverse. I determine tiers by how much fun i had playing said classes: S - Paladin, Cleric, Warlock, Bard A - Monk, Sorcerer, B - Wizard, Druid, Fighter, Ranger C - Rogue, Barbarian D - none
A bit late to the party, but while you mention subclasses of other classes, you don't mention subclasses of the sorcerer. I'm currently playing a divine soul sorcerer, basically a sorcerer that gets a few healing spells rather than wild magic. No worries of blowing up the party.
If the Ranger A-tier thing was a joke, I'm about to look really stupid. I joined my first ever D&D campaign a few months ago and decided that since this was my first ever character, I had an excuse to be extremally unoriginal! So, I made an edgelord bastard Human Ranger with a katana and basically told my DM to figure it out! As it turned out, the campaign had alternate dimensions as a large plot point, so my katana is a strange magic weapon from another world that gives me Haste! I then proceeded take nothing but movement spells for the first 4 levels and basically became Zenitsu from Demon Slayer! One of the D&D veterans in my group keeps telling me that it's very unique to see a playstyle like that on a Ranger instead of a Fighter. This tier list makes me feel a lot less stupid for my vary baseless decision. or, like I said at the beginning, the whole thing was a joke and I look like a massive idiot!
Im pretty sure he ranked this list by more of how fun they are, and put less into how powerful they can be. It seems he favors classes that require less setup/min-maxing to get the power out of them. I agree with the paladin ranking though. I love paladins. If I weren't dming, id be playing a paladin.
I think any class can be amazing depending on how you play it. I've played a decent amount of D&D and started DMing recently and it's really interesting seeing people's portrayals of different class. My most recent party I DMed for had a wizard, 2 paladins and 2 clerics, (they did not talk to each other or me before making characters, then again it was ment to be a one shot while waiting for regular DM to return before it got popular) despite the party's composition they are all very unique characters and managed to hold things together mostly. I think it's not always about the character but how it's played. That being said I have played so many Rouges and they are definitely top tier they are so much fun. But that's just my opinion.
I think cleric deserves more than a B tear. Because it depends from the divine domain the pg have. The cleric is so versatile that can be a healer or a DPS (For that I personally recommend tempest domain)
Every time someome on the internet hates on the druid i only love my players more. Out of 3 campaigns weve had 4 druids (2 at once once) and my players fucking *LOVE* it and theyre some of the most in depth characters ive ever DMed for
not gonna lie. I kinda miss the content previously. like " how each class prepares for combat" Easily my favorite video. THe new stuff just...seems...off in a way. Dunno if its just Duke being busy with about to be a Dad, which can make sense. Just stating what I feel
I love rangers so much. Every single subclass has the potential to either specialize in something, usually to pretty good effect, or just be a one man adventuring party and serve whatever role the party needs at the moment.
One of my players has expressed interest in playing a Horizon Walker which I have always believed relies more on DM participation than most class choices because I would then have to generate extraplanar portals in the world, detail where they go to and what might be coming out of them, and think about what might happen if he decides to step through…. I havent had this much fun doing that sort of narrative world-building in the background since my last Warlock player where I RP’d all the interactions he had with his Devil which eventually led to him going to the second layer of the Nine Hells and eventually fighting in the Blood War
Agree with warlock but I think the sorcerer has a much more defined well of magic and can be really fun to theme your magic. As with druids, you can use your wild shape to tank a lot of damage if you need to and you have a lot of versatility. You can also really easily theme your magic
Druid is my favorite class. But it would be nice, in some situations, if it were a little more stabby so I can contribute more to battles while maintaining my concentration spells
Really enjoyable to watch! I liked the style and think it would be cool to see more of it! Although I personally would have liked it to be a little longer but whatever works for you!
I enjoyed this immensely and agree with most of it, although I think Bard should be boosted a tier, because even though it's become a meme-y class overall, for people who are still serious about DnD, the bard really does offer some great support, and their charisma is really handy to have for out of combat situations. Every party should have a bard or high charisma rogue in my opinion. Unless your campaign is almost solely about combat and exploring, and not interacting with other people I guess.
I thought the thumbnail was clickbait; I thought "There is no way he put Rangers in A tier when the skits treat them like D- Tier" I am very happy that I was wrong.
Bro's, the second character I ever made was a Paladin. And because no one at the table knew or cared about Paladin Oaths, he basically was just a divine bounty hunter lol.
I love the kind of memetic and at the same time serious tone he gives when defining the position, and that the monk was put in C tier for no reason whatsoever. This is no factual list of how powerful a class is, it's simply how one views them, for fun, flavor and expectancy (both to live and the power), the paladin sounds powerful to those who choose to take it and it is powerful when you take it, makes sense for the S tier

4:34 Ranger is everything someone wants for a campaign where the DM pays attention to things like when the party last ate and whether the terrain is difficult or not, plus we have ranged weapons, double-wielding in close combat, and magic!
And the most jacked stealth rolls ever. Expertise + Pass Without Trace + Invisibility (via Tasha) is just lovely
I'm glad Duke admitted he mistreated Bard, that's a character development
I was expecting sorcerer to be "What does sorcerer start with? That's right! D tier"
I'm so happy about the ranger not getting stuck in the lowest tier because of the memes 😍 they're really my favorite class 💖🎯
I love playing a Gloomstalker. That bonus to initiative is crazy good.
I mean this list is a meme tho
S. Wiz, Sorc, Bard, Pally
A. Cleric, Warlock
B. Druid, Fighter, Artificer
C. Barbarian, Rogue, Druid, Ranger
D. Monk
Bard is 'S' for magical secrets alone in my opinion, can take class exclusives like Find Greater Steed 3 levels before Paladin can.
If warlock isn't in A or above, i'll riot
I've got some bad news for you. Literally all of his D tier are my favorite classes to play
@@nikolarjaniko two of my are in d tier
"No one knows how to play the druid" good I'm not alone
that was so spicy it felt like the sorcerer rolled 07-08 on the wild magic table
That bard must of rolled a nat 1 for throwing it back to be placed in B tier.
ive never been so conflicted looking at a tier list as im just simply confused how something is simultaneously right about certain things and then takes a 180 5 seconds later
I was so hyped when you put Warlock in S tier.... 😂
I know. They are so much fun to build and cross class. They've got so many unique abilities and spells.
Why did he move it to d tho. Idgi warlock is great
ImO better than wizard, especially when taken as a minor multiclass
@@matthewtanner7206 Because you should'nt rank a class for how great it multiclass.
My tier list:
S: Sorcerer, Warlock
A: Druid, Cleric, Artificer, Paladin
B: Monk, Wizard, Bard
C: Rogue, Ranger
D: Barbarian, Fighter
It's ranked on how interesting I find the classes conceptually, generally not counting subclasses.
Going with mechanics and agreeing with the concept of having fun, this is my tier-list:
S: Sorcerer, Rogue [extremely powerful, fun and easy to play]
A: Artificial, Warlock, Paladin [fun and decent fighters, but it's hard to unlock their full potential]
B: Fighter, Barbarian, Cleric [solid, calm and reliable]
C: Bard, Ranger, Monk [limited at their mechanics and stereotypes, not great, not enough fun]
D: Druid, Wizard [why use them?]
P.S. BTW, I'm really curios, how did you put Fighter lower than Wizard? It's most of time just an old man or scientist, while Fighters gather all the archetypes for brute force without magic, like swordmaster, veteran, hunter, guardian, marine and many others.
@@andreyraven5316
I think I just find arcane study more compelling than martial study, and that colours my opinions and biases on classes.
What is your oath and what galvanized you to take it on?)
Fighters are just one big blank. There's no intrinsic spin or modus operandi. It's *_just_* martial weapon (any).
It's a flavourless, mundane blank slate.
It's possible to make a Fighter compelling, absolutely... but every other class has that easier.
I was already at my limit when you put sorcerer in D tier, but then I had to flip off my computer screen when you put warlock on D tier XD
Wizard: *Dies of 1d4 B tier damage*
I agree that rouges do exactly as you'd expect, tha tha they are super stealthy and hard to kill

Some dude said something like “paladins can do nothing against long bows” yeah tell that to my 21 AC and 40 movement speed.
Sorcerer was the first class I played, and it's easily my favorite. Just so much damn fun
I'm still waiting for the skit about the elderly succubus wanting 'it' from a pally that really wants to run away.
By the gods, actually giving the ranger class some props. I've been saying forever that if you build a Ranger the right way, you've got a jack of all trades who any party would love to have.
what's funny is that he said that a ranger is in A tier, but in a previous one, he made a whole video dedicated to why you SHOULD NOT play a ranger!
Bro you just made batman
(kinda)
honestly sometimes I’m actually excited to play my cleric and help support the party, sometimes I’m even able to get some action with monsters and things as well. plenty of situations when I’ve had to save the party though. Those were not very fun sometimes.
One time as a life cleric, I one touch killed a dude in an alley with Inflict Wounds. ✨ I always loved playing my cleric, and would do it again.
Love your videos mate. and congratulations on your new baby. Clerics are A-tier in my opinion though.
As a sorcerer lover whose second is a druid, I feel personally attacked.
I play a smooth talking, level headed, sexually abstinent Bard. Easily S tier with the way he can convince even the most stubborn people to do things they don't want to
Artificer?
Artificer: am i joke to you?
I use to play nothing but sorcerers because they're an easy class to understand and you don't have to deal with books or patrons you just know spells. Then I played a Rouge. Best decision in my life most fun I've ever had in a dnd campaign. Currently playing a Warlock in pathfinder 2e as a yugioh abridged reference. Good list would put sorcerers up higher but thats just me.
Once again, forgot the Artificer
Druids deserve much more love, they can be so much fun and creative to play with 😔
I would love to see more videos like this, i love the impromptu feel of the video
Someone does not like full casters.
Artificer and Blood Hunters: *exists*
Duke: Oh No! Anyway, moving on...
As a barbarian, I single handedly carried my entire party (6 other people) and had to take on a young green dragon by myself at level 3 because the rest of my party was already nearly dead. Barbarians are great 👍
What were the rest of your party?
>Walks into room
>Declares ranger to be fighter but better
>Refuses to elaborate further
>Leaves
“ What letter does Warlock start with!?” “
“ S tier, for Satan”
Ranger can't be better of fighter or bard. Druid is an A, cause i pvpd on it paladind and fighter and won. On lvl2 it can turn into deinonichus to get multiattack4, 26hp, and put some enchnment spells on himself, also create own d8 weapon which he will be proficient with. And sneaky snake.
Rangers in A tier makes me so happy!
0:57 in a party i was in we had a bard who was almost constatly bored (in character). he once told the party a story about brushing your teeth
Idea is good, but you need to make clear what criteria you use to put classes in which tier.
Since in some you speak about abilities, and for some you use more "personal opinion" approach, like with druid or fighter.
Also my tier list is like almost reverse.
I determine tiers by how much fun i had playing said classes:
S - Paladin, Cleric, Warlock, Bard
A - Monk, Sorcerer,
B - Wizard, Druid, Fighter, Ranger
C - Rogue, Barbarian
D - none
A bit late to the party, but while you mention subclasses of other classes, you don't mention subclasses of the sorcerer. I'm currently playing a divine soul sorcerer, basically a sorcerer that gets a few healing spells rather than wild magic. No worries of blowing up the party.
Hooray justice for Ranger class!
i agree i always play ranger and there are some relly sick builds you can do glad to see someone respect it
I love how my three favorite classes are in the lowest tier 🗿
Not a joke. And rangers are so underrated!
The warlock ranking got me crying
Them be fighting words
I never played DND but I thought this might be a funny comment.
"Paladins: S tier!"
Den of the Drake: *whispers* "You’re god damn, right."
Bards are S tier. They are so S tier that the memes don't matter.
Im playing a paladin in one campaign right now and a rogue in another and I miss expertise and cunning action so much when i play my paladin.
I would love to see a video like this about either the races or the pre made campaigns
Please do tierlists of subclasses! I think I could be funny, plus informative!
I thought the thumbnail was clickbait; I thought "There is no way he put Rangers in A tier when the skits treat them like D- Tier"
I am very happy that I was wrong.
You forgot artificer
I like my current monk, she's a Kensei with some rogue levels, who is nearly unkillable because of her speed and ranged attacks.
Bro's, the second character I ever made was a Paladin. And because no one at the table knew or cared about Paladin Oaths, he basically was just a divine bounty hunter lol.
Artificer: What about me? And I thought the Ranger was the forgotten one
