The Importance Of Human Connection Featuring Alan Watts | Answers With Joe Short (Repost)

- Alan Watts says that "Existence is a function of relationships." That we crave connection not because it's something we need to build, it's a discovery of something that already exists.
Scientific studies have shown that looking into someone's eyes for 10 minutes can actually change your consciousness. That's how hard-wired we are for connection, even if we may feel introverted and alone.
Take some time to hold eye contact with someone and see how it changes you.

Alan Watts - We Are All Connected
• Video - Наука та технологія
My wife an I sat down one evening long ago and gazed into each other's eyes for 10 minutes. We decided to try the challenge about a month after we started dating.
The wellspring of emotion and the darkness filled vacuum I felt.... Like I had truly never met another human being until that moment enveloped me with self loathing and pure happiness. I cried tears of relief and joy that I was not alone in this world after all...
She is not only my wife, but my best friend... You learn so much from others if you just let go.
Bravo on the video, I think you did an amazing job, and you ending it with being bashful was classic. You have talent Joe!
Hi joe and everbody else>>>>> Some times the simple things are the best.
I love Alan Watts! I listen to one of his lectures almost every night as I fall asleep. His philosophy has changed my life.
I remember when you first posted this video, back when I was a new subscriber. Great seeing it again ^_^
I did give it a go. And it’s addicting. Good thanks. 👍
I too listen to Alan Watts to go to sleep. He is so inspiring.
I recommend checking out his chillstep too.
This was basically the comment I wanted to write!
Me too man! The Tao of philosophy (Full lecture ) is my favorite 5 hours of anything
Been a follower of Alan Watts for decades. He was, and continues to be an insightful soul.
I haven't even watched this yet, but it has Joe and Alan watts, so im sold
I like all your videos, Joe...but I LOVED this one. More buddy! Please, more.
This was amazing.
I was always pretty proud of this one. Hope more people see it now. :)
Joe Scott If THIS is the quality of videos you are talking about putting up on TMI. I am all for it. We know you pretty well as an intellectual talking head, it’s fascinating seeing you be creative.
I like it. More please.
Thank you.
Great TBT Joe. I liked this the first time. I'm glad I watched it again.
Thanks for the video - really enjoyed!
Thank you for uploading this, that man means the world to me when everything else means nothing, & I think more people could use this, like basically everyone
Random Thursday is still Random Thursday. If we weren't expecting a repost, then it's still random lol.
That was really beautiful, Joe. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you, this was really really great! ❤️
Subscribed to your channel a few weeks back. Glad I did. Keep up the good work and just be yourself and post topics that you think are relevant. We just watch. Peace
Beautiful, Joe. The world needs more smiles, laughter, and hugs. How do we achieve this? It’s as easy as one minute of connection. 🤟
I love that your channel combines science for the layperson and messages of positivity. Sure it's a little corny sometimes, but that's just your style, and mine too. It's an interesting and valuable mix that we didn't know we needed.
Love your channel and this video. Keep up the great work!
Pretty darn powerful Joe! Good on ya
I just watched the This To Shall Pass video that you made yesterday. Cried for an hour
Beautifully captured.
That was totally worth a revisit. Thank you.
This is what we need! Emphasizing the importance of spirit/consciousness (the common denominator), without dogma/mental constructs (illusions) dividing us. Great!
Very NICE! LOVED it! 💞
Such a nice video!
Joe, that was.... that was.... my words have failed me, i have no words. Outstanding will have to do, until a better understatement comes to mind.
Alan Watts is the man! I have a few of his books and listen to him at night going to sleep. There is also a lot of Alan Watts chillstep our there that I highly recommend.
Banana, I found your Channel this last week. Seems I've caught up. Thanks for all this joe
Two of my favourite humans, Joe and Alan Watts :)
I'm going to have to go back and watch a lot of your first videos you rock joe😀
Hey that was really good! I think the bruce/kaytlyn (dont kill me on the spelling) jenner video deserves another shot! I watched it (and commented) a few weeks back and found it incredibly informative and underviewed.
Hi Joe. Love your video’s. Thanks for this one. Can you make a video about the recent discovery of the thing science discovered about going faster then light. It was not mass but something else. Sorry I searched but I couldn’t find it anymore. Thanks in advance I hope you know what I am mumbling about. 😬
Really nice. Love Alan Watts.
Great vid joe! Thanks abunch! I was wondering if you could touch on what we now know about Liquid Metal Hydrogen
What a perfect backdrop track to choose. Moving
I literally just discovered Alan Watts 2 days ago and loved his stuff so this is such an interesting coincidence, unless it's not a coincidence and Google some how did it but this video hadn't come out yet so I don't think so. Anyway great video! As always
Very nice!
Well done.
Did this when I did the Landmark Forum, an international course about what it is to be a human being. Powerful stuff. You'd like it Joe.
Pretty cool Joe Scott, this is something I believed in for a long time. Somewhere along the way we lost a "commonality" we had. I could decribe it as always having help.
Short and Sweet :)
Just what i needed this afternoon Joe. its amazing how unconnected we are kind of cause of tech.
Cool vid. Alan Watts, that man was pure genius. Incredible speaker and thought provoker.
How did I miss this
Alan is my man.
I love this! Why isn’t this an annual event worldwide?
Smart....looked exactly 1 minute in your eyes, because the intro was 1 minute long....😨😊
Very nice
Alan Watts, a blast from the past.
I abhor eye contact but I applaud the message. Thanks Joe.
Awesome
Ummm.. that was amazing. Wish I could like twice.
Good sound track...
1 minute intro. Amazing.
Eeee...love you!
That is beautiful
Awesome Joe! Do you give trees big hugs? (JK man...)
I think Alan Watts would have liked this. I certainly do
One minute out of 1440 to lift a spirit... Well worth doing
When will you do a video with Veritasium?
lovely :)
I didn’t know there’s so much overlap between Answers with Joe fans and Alan Watts fans. Good to know I’m not alone.
Hurray, Alan Watts ftw!
Oh shit its even better now that i watched it
They should do this every where
I would like to try something like this. But whenever I stare at a random person for a minute it gets awkward pretty quick
lol Alan Watts, love to listen to him, at least some time ago he changed the way I look at world :)
Me too. He's great!
Ah, my young apprentice, i two am a fan of Alan.
True
This made me kind of anxious just watching.
Well done. I've enjoyed a bunch of your older videos and appreciate you sharing this one. Don't let the Science blowhards dissuade you from connecting themes you cover with the Deep themes of humanity. Our academic process has made us overly dependent on being reductionist... It's important to bring things back together. Peace.
Wow! It kinda truly brings out the meaning of life. Can you please explain how artificial photosynthesis currently in development in China postpone the end of mankind? Is it gonna be effective in ensuring the continued survival of human race?
Cool 😎
the window to the soul
Literally an hour after I decided to listen to a bit of Watts because it had been a long while and stopped the video like 'meh, not now'...
Making your self stare at peoples faces may give you a different experience but you may also find it freaky. After all it is what babies and small children do when they are first learning to recognise and read the human face. It's a vital part of their early learning. I would suggest that as adults you are adopting a regressive behaviour which may benefit you particularly if you missed out on your early facial recognition.
I did it for 4 hours each time and with multiple people. over the course of a few days. Part of a class. If you looked away. All your time was lost. Their face starts morphing amd changing shape after so long. Lol.
Just hopped over from your last live feed, the EM and Eye Planet one, while this may be interesting to most. There is a small minority, or majority depending on how you look at it (IRL v. Online) where eye contact doesn't hold the same allure, or effect as it does with others. I for one have had to train myself to make eye contact, since it does nothing for me.
I am, of course speaking of Aspies, or persons with Asperger's. Eye contact does nothing, I would literally be bored out of my mind if I had to stare into someone's eyes for 1 min. No connection would be formed. And most likely the other person would feel cheated, or creeped out. Since they would feel the "connection" was not formed, while I would... well feel nothing.
Not complaining, or judging, just offering a thought on those that would be, and are left out of this experience.
So, do you get to kiss the person after the minute is up?
I do this walking the streets but the result is quite different.
Irrelevant to the video, but I noticed you reuse the face expressions on your thumbnails. Also what your thoughts on the "Thiaoouba Prophecy"? Cheers
We interrupt your scheduled programming to bring you this from Joe! I'm down, even shut down the JRE with Steven Tyler to see what ya got there Joe!
Dude, that video just popped up on my homepage, too! (Haven't watched it yet)
Joe Scott it's a pretty wild interview!
I would never considered that Alan Watts will get mentioned on this channel before Peter Watts. Where is this world going?
I physically can't stare people in the face for more than a few seconds.
See dem eyes doe
I'm in the infirmary. That eye contact thing didn't go over well here in prison...
Joe, you need to do a video about #SaveTheExpanse i think itll help you and help save the best space show on TV!
JOE
RUBEN
If you stare at the sun for a minute. Life afterwards will be darkness in comparison. Because, you'll be blind. Seriously though, I have chased some amazing sunsets and sunrises. The ordinary light of day is just a different world to the simple yet magical passage of time you can see as the sun rises and sets. Let the sunshine (oh let it shine!), Let the sunshine in (come on), The sunshine in. (Oh everyone sing along Come on!) Now everybody just sing along, And let the sunshine on in, Open up your heart
And let it shine on you...
Joe 2020
What if you dont like eye contact. Like it makes you uncomfortable. Am I a weirdo 🤣 even watching this was difficult lol
Who was that last guy who couldn't quite let go of the irony? Hrr hrr
Eyes are the windows to the soul 😉
When Alan Watts used the word "relationship" he did not mean "human connection". Listen carefully and think about his analogy with one ball.
It grinds my gears that this video used totally unrelated fragment of a speech and most people were like "this is great" "oh, Alan Watts is genius" etc.
yep, i just took the chance to listen to the quote and ignore the video
The more I learn about humans the more I prefer my dog!
Too many feels, eyes are leaking!!!
Funny how Millennials, the most connected generation, are shown to be the loneliness. Nothing beats real interaction verses a screen.
Yeah the most connected to the Internet.
Universal Paradox right on
Oh good grief, I really liked your content enough already and then you went and made a video narrated by Alan Watts and I feel like I'm having a bro crush over here or something.
Holy crap 179k subs....
Growing like a weed.
Hey that's Wonder women's eye in your thumbnail isn't it?
No, it was just someone at the event. She has amazing eyes though.
I know joe always points it out as a joke but you can’t tell me he doesn’t look stoned out of his mind at the end.
When I gave up TV I thought I was getting rid of repeats.
What a nightmare. Nothing worse than interacting with humans
