- Outdoor life with Hunt4fish. Crankshaft oil seal leaking in my old 2003 Pontiac Vibe so got up the nerve and replaced it couple days ago.Must say nice to see it's clean once again around the engine compartment.
This was in a Pontiac Vibe, Toyota Matrix, Corolla type but applicable to many more.
torque bolt at end of crank to 102 ft lbs
Thank you. Made this job a lot easier to see someone else do it first
Great to hear! appreciate the feedback too, take care.
NIce job. I have a 2006 Matrix with 194,000 miles. Only leak it ever had was valve cover gasket which I replaced Also, these cars usually need new intake manifold gaskets.
Thanks for watching and comment. Yup good cars, had same trouble but a easy on mine fix is what I like........take care
Thank you for your video. It was helpful. Just one point of clarification is that the torque for the crankshaft bolts is 102 ft/lbs
think so.100 -110
Buddy, once again I am impressed for your amazing versatility. Is there anything you would either be afraid to tackle or not be able to fix? I think not. Great work Buddy!
Thanks Paul....money makes me do that. I hate spending it ahah
Although I saw what I needed to see from this video, it is pretty terrible production wise. It shows removing the damper puller from the pulley but not installing it. It doesn't show installing the seal (the whole point of the video). It doesn't show removing the belt. Anyone watching to see any of that stuff is out of luck.
I agree it could have been better. thanks for you comments appreciate it
Hello sir ! Once the old seal is out, is there any risk of oil spillage since there is no more seal to retain the oil ?
No, oil is in basepan no worries!
@@hunt4fish Yeah, that make sens. Thank you kindly for the reply. Have a wonderful week-end. :-)
Thanks for video. How many miles when seal gave out. I have 145k but doesn't leak yet. Looks easy enough maybe a preventive measure before it leaks. Thanks again.
about 175k I would say
DON’T use a puller that pulls from the outside as it will pull the outside ring off the damper. Then you’ll be buying a new balancer
didn't use the outside holes on the wheel, used the inside holes on the main wheel as you can see in the vid at 7.55. The wheel comes off easily on most all these car engines.
@@hunt4fish I wasn't referring to what you did, just a general warning not to use a puller that grips with fingers on the outside of the balancer.
@@OffTheBeatenPath_ oh thanks, that could fool up your day!
Hi,
Does it really need a pulley remover because it looks like you didn’t apply too much force on ratchet?
maybe not; once it satrted it came on fairly easy! Thanks and take care
Is there a difference between the pulley size between the matrix and the vibe? The new one is the same size as the one in your video but the one on my matrix is smaller in diameter
what year is your matrix
So things the easy is seal changer i take my toyota to the dealership today a coast me $289 for the work on my car
see why the dealships are still in business....lot of money for small job! take care and thanks for watching my video.
Tough to watch with the way you juggle the camera.
some days it's uncontrollable!
