Wow, i was about to give up on this car when I found out the CS seal was leaking, i really thought it was more in depth and invasive. Thought u had to remove the crankcase to replace the seal, but your video made me get back up and fix this lil
Thanks for this! It was short but it was concise and no BS. My 2010 Corolla has a slight leak and oil is coming from the crank pulley area and going towards the passenger compartment, getting on the sensor connectors at the side of the timing cover. But since I'm the 3rd owner and it's got 160K miles AND it's not using a drop of oil (or dropping on ground) I think I'm good. Just checked this for reference and possible help for the future. Thanks again for the help!!
You definitely helped me. I had this issue with a 99 Corolla. I actually replaced it with the crankshaft pully from 1a auto but I don't remember if I changed the seal
Thanks so much for this! Man, I'm about to replace the seal on my Girls 2006 Toyota Matrix. Do you know if the procedure is the same? I think it is, but I'm not a professional and it's kinda hard for me to find tutorials on the matrix. Thanks!
Just wondering. Does the oil need to be drained before doing this? I have a small leak on passenger side only visable from under the car. I think this could be my issue. seems cheap and easy enough, i might just replace it. im at 188k
How do you take the bolt off? mine is a 19 mm, i already removed the belt following my Haynes Manual, the pulley turns either way and i can not break the torque of the bolt?????!!!!
A pulley holder works well. Or if the crank shaft spins in a clockwise direction you can put a breaker bar on it and wedge it, then crank the engine for a QUICK instant to break the bolt loose. Do not allow it to start.
TDC is related to the synchronized timing of the camshaft sprockets with the crankshaft sprocket. The pulley sits outside of the timing chain cover and runs from the crank sprocket, which turns the accessory/serpentine belt, which then turns Alternator, Power Steering, A/C Compressor, and Water Pump. TDC has nothing to do with anything outside the timing chain cover. Hope this helps.

Cool. A pretty easy repair. You can also use a little engine oil on the seal to install.

Thanks, learned a lot. I appreciate the knowledge sharing.

If its the same engine i imagine it will be the same.
2006 matrix/vibe/corolla have this engine ... unless it's the XRS/GT model... but then, those are practically the same also
If it has a timing chain it will be effectively the same procedure. Engines with timing belts will require removal of the timing belt.

No, i didnt drain the oil
When the pulley was wobbling did it make a noise?
THANK YOU i noticed a problem as my alternator started getting more and more oil on it over time.
It will eventually short out the alternator and will also damage the drive belt. I would fix it asap.
what is the seal part number? I didn't see you post that
Thanks for the tip brother, is it good to tight the pulley bolt with a impact wrench or manually? Thanks again ,hope you can reply 👍
Torque wrench...
How do you take the bolt off? mine is a 19 mm, i already removed the belt following my Haynes Manual, the pulley turns either way and i can not break the torque of the bolt?????!!!!
I had to use an impact gun. But you can do it by holding the crank pullet still somehow or having enough torque to break it free
A pulley holder works well. Or if the crank shaft spins in a clockwise direction you can put a breaker bar on it and wedge it, then crank the engine for a QUICK instant to break the bolt loose. Do not allow it to start.
Use an impact drill, or put the belt back on first then loosen the bolt.
@@jessemclaughlin9680 Yep, and I always pull the EFI fuse so the car can't start.
Do you not have to find TDC since you removed the pulley?
TDC is related to the synchronized timing of the camshaft sprockets with the crankshaft sprocket. The pulley sits outside of the timing chain cover and runs from the crank sprocket, which turns the accessory/serpentine belt, which then turns Alternator, Power Steering, A/C Compressor, and Water Pump. Thanks brother
Very good job boy
Is this doable without pulling the engine?
Yes, you remove passenger side wheel and inner fender shield to access harmonic balancer.
Thank you buddy

That seal should not have went in to easy that will end up leaking once again...
what to do if it goes in that easy, the crankshaft will rotate the seal after a while
