My dad was a scout, sniper, marine, in sta platoon he spent many deployments in the Philippines in the 80s, he had nothing but good things to say about the Filipino Marines. He was teaching there. He had a crazy story about when they were at the range, shooting everything from there M-16 to the heavy machine guns and sniper rifles. There was a shit load of kids that would come and grab the hot brass to recycle it, of course and make some money. Well it was never really an issue until one day, the US Marine decided to take his helmet off and it went missing. The Filipino Marine, who is in charge I guess watch between the locals and them. They were teaching him too, but kind of like a translator. I guess decided to line all the kids up and said I know one of you took this helmet he put his 45 at one of the kids had and said I’m gonna shoot every last one of you until we get that marines helmet back. Almost immediately one of the kids ran and brought the helmet back. Of course, after that incident, they lectured the Filipino Marine and said thank you for trying to help us, but helmets not worth the kids life. The Filipino Marine said it is if it’s an American helmet here in the Philippines. we value your relationship with the US so much

@ not sure if I’ve heard that but I’m in Asheville North Carolina. I’ve ate the civilian MREs a lately. Actually, I shouldn’t say that I’ve went hungry a lot staring at them because they’re so horrible. I grew up on a military base and as a kid I thought the MRes didn’t taste bad. Would they give to civilians is horrible also, it has under 1000 cal in each.

Hello brothers. This is the Dennis Eclarin that Gene mentions in your interview. How I wish you were more careful in handling these types of stories. There are people like me who need to give their consent first before ever being mentioned. I also publish a war story a day in my channel but I make sure each one is meant to recognize and not endanger anyone unnecessarily. FYI, it has been more than 10 years since that simple operation with Gene but I have never mentioned it to anyone except my wife. I did the hard calls on that operation and never wished that details be shared to anyone else.

Dennis, I have always deeply appreciated your critical role and generosity in saving my family’s dear friend, which is why I highlighted your contributions in the book. My goal has been to honor the bravery and teamwork of everyone involved while sharing lessons transparently with a global audience.
I also wish to restate that the true heroes-the NICA operatives and Scout Rangers who executed the high risk exchange-fully supported the book and its publication. I’ve taken great care working with them on this project to ensure that all details shared respect safety, integrity, and the approval of those most directly involved. If you have specific concerns, I’m happy to address them directly. My focus has always been to honor these events responsibly and with the respect they deserve. I sincerely only wish you the best after all these years for your family and your endeavors to honor other Filipino heroes as well.
