Stephen really loves musicians and anything to have someone sing live just makes him so happy. Glad Tim Mcgraw got the chance to sing.
The song, the voice, and the band…all astounding. And the eye contact between McGraw and Batiste captures the magic of the creative process. Breathtaking for the live audience and those of us at home. And Colbert clearly enjoyed the beauty of it all.
If you you have ever sang with equipment then you appreciate how extremely talented he is. Impromptu spare 🎤 gig? Most people say no for a reason! Bravo
His voice is astounding. I, being a county and fusion country fan from the 60’s, never noticed how classical and clear his voice was. Perhaps it was Hard to hear through the normal production noise , but it took my breath away on this clip. Holy cow.
I have loved this man since I was 12 years old.... I'm 36 now! I've seen him in concert many times, I love you Tim 🥰
When singers come out and turn to the band and acknowledge them first before sitting down for their interview…..class act. The musicians know how to support the singers and in this case, it was wonderful to witness the seamless “conversation” between Tim McGraw and Jon Batiste.
Here I am, just smiling...nice rendition, Tim. I am also loving 1883. So raw and beautiful. A good reminder of how hard and sometimes short, life was. Positive vibes from New Hampshire, remember to be kind to each other and yourself during this pandemic and social crisis

He’s been covering Tiny Dancer for years. Released it on an album in 2002 even. His wheelhouse is crazy. He released a song with Nelly.

Damn, Tim McGraw is so talented. Dude can act, sing, he’s in great shape, and is a great human being. I’ve been watching 1883, and it’s a great show, and I’ve been blown away by Tim Mcgraw’s acting. It’s Emmy worthy in my book.
You could hear a small cut in the crowd noise transition between Mcgraw calling out Tiny Dancer and the Instrumental intro- the must've been some small banter or maybe a few notes back and forth.. Maybe cut for time? Not sure though if they really practiced much but dang if Tim & Jon don't go together well. Tim very nearly nailed those very tricky multi crescendos Elton John loves to bang out in his signature way.. And Jon & the gang really heightened Tim's vocalization the way only a consummate pianist & instrumentalists can. Wow. Great performance by all. Really caught me.

That song KILLS me!! My niece is the shortest little thing, she was a ballerina plus a dancer with the cheer group in high school & now she's a Mommy but she will always still be my Tiny Dancer! At her ballet school graduation they played this song with clips of each girl through their dance years & I was sobbing so hard I almost had to go outside! Love you so much Courtney!
Tiny Dancer is a good song, but not really appropriate for a kids show.

To be more precise, did anyone else notice how John subtly directed Tim? I did. I've been a chorus singer for a long time and need my director to let me know/remind me to finish loud or soft or cut off when needed. John, you kick ass as a musician and director. Tim has a great voice and knows how to follow his director, chorus or solo! =)

Great voice. This might have been rehearsed . But how the hell can Jon play this without looking? He's amazing.
As a musician I can tell you that with musicians of this calibre, rehearsal would have consisted of Tim McGraw saying Tiny Dancer in C (or whatever), I'll cue you to the chorus. That's all an incredible musician like Jon Batiste would need.
