Love how musicians communicate. Batiste knew the key, watched for directions “chorus”, transitioned seamlessly. Takes his job of making soloist look fabulous very seriously. Consummate musician, Jon.
The song, the voice, and the band…all astounding. And the eye contact between McGraw and Batiste captures the magic of the creative process. Breathtaking for the live audience and those of us at home. And Colbert clearly enjoyed the beauty of it all.
His voice is astounding. I, being a county and fusion country fan from the 60’s, never noticed how classical and clear his voice was. Perhaps it was Hard to hear through the normal production noise , but it took my breath away on this clip. Holy cow.
Here I am, just smiling...nice rendition, Tim. I am also loving 1883. So raw and beautiful. A good reminder of how hard and sometimes short, life was. Positive vibes from New Hampshire, remember to be kind to each other and yourself during this pandemic and social crisis
If you you have ever sang with equipment then you appreciate how extremely talented he is. Impromptu spare 🎤 gig? Most people say no for a reason! Bravo
When singers come out and turn to the band and acknowledge them first before sitting down for their interview…..class act. The musicians know how to support the singers and in this case, it was wonderful to witness the seamless “conversation” between Tim McGraw and Jon Batiste.
Damn, Tim McGraw is so talented. Dude can act, sing, he’s in great shape, and is a great human being. I’ve been watching 1883, and it’s a great show, and I’ve been blown away by Tim Mcgraw’s acting. It’s Emmy worthy in my book.
F'n A thru Z - that was incredible 👏 - sang beautifully by Tim 👏 Jon Batiste and Stay Human are phenomenal ❤🧡💛💚💙💜💫 Jon is the walking & talking embodiment of MUSIC - 🎶🎵 Jon Batiste is the GOAT & it won't be long before he's the EGOT 🤗
That song KILLS me!! My niece is the shortest little thing, she was a ballerina plus a dancer with the cheer group in high school & now she's a Mommy but she will always still be my Tiny Dancer! At her ballet school graduation they played this song with clips of each girl through their dance years & I was sobbing so hard I almost had to go outside! Love you so much Courtney!
You could hear a small cut in the crowd noise transition between Mcgraw calling out Tiny Dancer and the Instrumental intro- the must've been some small banter or maybe a few notes back and forth.. Maybe cut for time? Not sure though if they really practiced much but dang if Tim & Jon don't go together well. Tim very nearly nailed those very tricky multi crescendos Elton John loves to bang out in his signature way.. And Jon & the gang really heightened Tim's vocalization the way only a consummate pianist & instrumentalists can. Wow. Great performance by all. Really caught me.
To be more precise, did anyone else notice how John subtly directed Tim? I did. I've been a chorus singer for a long time and need my director to let me know/remind me to finish loud or soft or cut off when needed. John, you kick ass as a musician and director. Tim has a great voice and knows how to follow his director, chorus or solo! =)
Thank you Stephen for having him and Faith as guests and getting him to sing. They both have unbelievably good voices and musical talent. Big nod to Jon Batiste too. Simply amazing.
As a musician I can tell you that with musicians of this calibre, rehearsal would have consisted of Tim McGraw saying Tiny Dancer in C (or whatever), I'll cue you to the chorus. That's all an incredible musician like Jon Batiste would need.
This was HEAVEN. Can Jon Batiste and Tim McGraw look any happier? Here's the deal. Jon Natosye should produce a record with Tim McGraw of aging covers in that genre. I bet Jon and Tim could produce an album with the country blues sound and MAKE BANK. They are both awesome musicians!
Jon plays that, while sitting half sideways and looking over his shoulder, smiling. That's probably not even a piano. I bet music just emanates from his hands.
Now Martha we have a microphone over here...I know you came here to cook but that time has ended...Ok John lets hit her with the chorus of Play that Funky Music!...
I really want to hate Tim Mcgraw but I can't. Not only pleasing to the eye but a solid family man plus he sang without warm-ups while sitting down (a test in itself) at a much slower time - AND 1883 is fucking epic. Must watch❤

Jon Batiste and Stay Human are amazing, however you must know that was rehearsed. Why else would SC have a mike conveniently handy?
@@laughingoutloud5742 lol that "mike" is such a tool!
Tim McGraw covering Tiny Dancer is the comfort I didn’t know I needed today
Same!
Right? Daammnnn his voice is smooth!
Careful Tim you are letting your little Wayne Newton show!
Tim: I am gonna sing Tiny Dancer
Elton: I guess I am out of the job
he does it better than Elton John
Ok...great singing...but how good a musician is Jon Batiste? He knows how to support a singer. Fantastic.
And the band, but yeah Jon is one the great musicians we have
Jon is a creative AND collaborative Genius!!! A guide to a new model of non-toxic success, where
We ALL Succeed When We ALL SUCCEED❣️❣️❣️
Never sleep on Jon Batiste, the man is a musical genius
They really are on a different level
Yeah, just a few hand signals and everyone knew where to go, unrehearsed
Jon Batiste is AMAZING!! He is so talented 😍
Right!!??!! Love that guy✨
Love how mesmerized Stephen is the whole time. He loves music so much! And brings us these kinds of gifts as a result
Stephen really loves musicians and anything to have someone sing live just makes him so happy. Glad Tim Mcgraw got the chance to sing.
The song, the voice, and the band…all astounding. And the eye contact between McGraw and Batiste captures the magic of the creative process. Breathtaking for the live audience and those of us at home. And Colbert clearly enjoyed the beauty of it all.
I have loved this man since I was 12 years old.... I'm 36 now! I've seen him in concert many times, I love you Tim 🥰

I’m in NH too Sista!

Tiny Dancer is one of very favorite songs!! Great cover by great singer.
Love his version!
Classy guy, great singer and actor. Love watching 1883.
Of all the songs, that surprised me.
Wish he would've done the full cover.
hes done the full cover before he has it on apple music its so good
I've been to several of his concerts and he does that song every time, it's great!
Love Tim's version!
Love that song! xo
Rendition couldn't have been better, only longer 😘🎶
Awwwwwwsomeeeeeee, love Tim ,I met him and Faith many years ago when she was just beg her career .
For some reason I like it that Tim McGraw has a Elton John song in his repertoire, certainly not in his wheelhouse.
He used to do the song Daniel too :)
Lullaby he probably sang to his daughters!!!🤭
He’s been covering Tiny Dancer for years. Released it on an album in 2002 even. His wheelhouse is crazy. He released a song with Nelly.
Tim McGraw is great... and Jon Batiste blows my mind every time. Such amazing talent!

Tiny Dancer is a good song, but not really appropriate for a kids show.
Love hearing the musicians together

This shows has alot of these 'moments' and they all soothe my soul. 100% good Juju. Keep it up Colbert & St. Jon!
Love you tim.. 1883 is amazing
Daaaaamn! I didn't know I needed this!
I'm amazed how Jon is basically playing the piano side saddle to take cues from Tim. Phenomenal!
Jon Batiste and Tim McGraw! Wish it was the full song 🥰
To be more precise, did anyone else notice how John subtly directed Tim? I did. Tim , I love your music, your eyes so good!OMG your unbelievable 👋
And he just sings so effortlessly sitting down the entire time!
This guy is really smooth like butter...
Thank you Stephen for having him and Faith as guests and getting him to sing. They both have unbelievably good voices and musical talent. Big nod to Jon Batiste too. Simply amazing.
Great voice. This might have been rehearsed . But how the hell can Jon play this without looking? He's amazing.
As a musician I can tell you that with musicians of this calibre, rehearsal would have consisted of Tim McGraw saying Tiny Dancer in C (or whatever), I'll cue you to the chorus. That's all an incredible musician like Jon Batiste would need.
I love 1883 i wish they would have given it to us as a binge watch ..
tim mcgraw is so talented. one of the few country artists I go out of my way to support. his music is top-notch.
I love Tim McGraw….he is so sweet, humble and just the nicest person ever…and boy he can sing
1:54 “Tiny Dancer!”
So impressed with how he belted that out...sitting down! What a champ!!
Tim can sing great, and act. What a man.!!
Awesome! Love Tim McGraw 😊
Oh my iffing god, so much depth in that voice.
I can't believe he asked Tim to sing, but not Faith. She's a powerhouse.

Lots of people here didn't know he covered this song on an album in 2002! (Tim McGraw And The Dancehall Doctors)
Damn! My goosebumps were all over my body! This was soooooo good in every way!
And his voice … just makes my damn eyes tear up .. sigh .. what a great song too .
Dang it! Can we get "Tim McGraw covers..." 70s, 80s, show tunes, whatever?
What a treat!
Brought tears to my eyes 😎👍
No idea who Tim McGraw is. But that was beautiful.
When an oldie is brought forward to today...
it is like a special favor to me.
Tim Mc Graw! I love this guy!
I love the Tony Danza song.
That John is top drawer!
Tim McGraw is the biznezz! I love you Sir.
I have always maintained that singers make better actors than actors do singers.
Lovely simply
This was HEAVEN. Can Jon Batiste and Tim McGraw look any happier?

Holy crap, go Tim!
How can anyone not Tom Hanks? He's a good actor and affable and nice person.
Jon plays that, while sitting half sideways and looking over his shoulder, smiling. That's probably not even a piano. I bet music just emanates from his hands.
Damn, he is great at it all.
O yeah !!!
MY HEART
Now Martha we have a microphone over here...I know you came here to cook but that time has ended...Ok John lets hit her with the chorus of Play that Funky Music!...
