OK Public Service Announcement. The lure I'm using is NOT the Lake X Lures Cannon Ball Jr., it's the Lake X Lures Fat Bastard (Same thing but smaller, 3.1 oz vs 5.8 oz). I bought the bait years ago at a show and I guess I forgot. I just realized this when I ordered a backup and received a massive bait.
Wonderful thing that the Clean Water Act was passed in the 1970's and strengthened since then, limiting the manufacturing waste that can be poured into these industrial area rivers that were once cesspools. It's amazing how aquatic life, including top prey fish like muskies, have come back over the years as the waters have been cleaned up.
We live for trips like this. Was lucky enough last year to have a 2 hour period where I caught 6 on top water. Probably once in a lifetime but now I dream of another morning like that
New subscriber… had to watch the vid a few times and it hit me where your fishing.. I’m not going to say where just because that’s my go to walleye spot.. placed second in bass tourney going up that little creek.. log jam next trestle up..anyway ten minutes from my house.. awesome vid brother.. ya
So awesome dude! That first one wasn’t messing around just wanted to kill that thing. Conditions looked pretty juicy that day. Congrats on an insane day!
How cool! Love your lure, we hooked up with 5 Tiger Muskie this morning lost 2 due to net being to small on the bank. One snapped a line on a fly. Dude next to us caught 4 on a fly. Great day when you get to play with 35 to 40 inches of fish. Great video.
Absolute great fishing but man that one that came up and swirled on his bait was huge. Hoping to hit the river this year and chase some of these things. Thanks for sharing!
New subscriber. At first i thought, man, who is this cocky SOB over at Absolute Unit Media? haha. Wtf? But I came to love, love, love, this channel. I can't watch enough of these videos. Please keep doing *exactly* what you're doing. I see the butt-hurt, jealous comments and the clear-headed, on-point responses offered, but you guys are above all that, and deserve -- and will get -- 1M subs. Keep doing exactly what you're doing. You'll never please the loser 3% (that will always watch, regardless), so ignore. The visuals captured, they pithy descriptions are perfectly on point. Nothing here deserves negativity. Love, love, love, what you guys have going on. I can barely wait to see you guys catch a musky through the ice, in Western PA, so Western PA can represent agains the Michigan videos. haha. Love Michigan too. It' s PA's time though! Anyway, keep staying above the fray because you guys have lots going on!
That dude’s gonna be fishing Musky for the rest of his life now. I would compare it to shallow water redfishing in Louisiana. There’s nothing like it 💪🏼
better than bass fishing? i live in the uk and dream of bass fishing, but we do this style fishing for biiiig northern pike here. makes me feel better about catching northerns
There’s part of the Mississippi River that runs through northern MN that’s industrialized (paper mills, power plants, etc) that’s not aesthetically appealing, but there’s some monsters in there. Every so often you’ll here of someone sticking a mid fifty inch or high 40# class fish.
hearing grown men get pissy on the net jobs in all these videos drive me crazy. if ur with someone who doesnt normally musky fish have a talk with them before u catch a fish so u dont act a fool when u get one.
Great footage, and thank you for sharing it. I'm not sure if you've dealt with really big fish before, but make sure to play them out a lot more than you did with these fish. Don't try to force them up, as it can lead to heartbreak. The smaller to medium-sized fish can be horsed a bit more, but not so much with the big ones. They have a lot more leverage in the water.
Sic vid man watching from holland. There is onley one thing i dont like about musky fisherman and that is that they dont fight the fish they want it in the net ASAP
Thank you ! Yes it’s definitely a different style with the big baits and really heavy equipment. I think it’s good for the fish to shorten the fight though, musky are a bit more fragile than pike - Especially in warm water
I’m the wrong person to ask because I’ve only used pricey stuff. But a lot of people say the “sojourn” rods are good for the money ($50 or so)….for reels I think it’s worth spending a bit more. Penn Squall 400 low profile will set you back 210$ which isn’t bad
Plenty of rivers and creeks with musky in Appalachia, where I'm from and I know you spend some time around here chasing 'skies! Also Stonewall Jackson and Stonecoal Lakes are known for producing some absolute monsters. Tygart may not be as well known for them but I know a guy who caught a 51" there years ago
I fish tygarts creek regular I rather fish the creeks in my john boat than hit cave run in my bass boat it's harder work but I normally see and cacth more fish per day hitting Kenny tygarts lil sandy
Tip for the net guy. Don’t put the net in the water until your ready to actually net the fish. With the net bag just sitting there in the water there’s a good chance for a loose treble hook to get fouled up in the net leaving the Muskie to thrash around and pull the hooks out of its mouth. Lost the fish of a lifetime once for that very reason.
@@absoluteunitmedia does it handle that cannon ball Jr? I have a 7.5ft st.croix med heavy triumph musky rod and a 8ft med heavy st.croix premier musky rod. And they are both rated 3/4oz to 3oz lure weight. Doesn't that cannon ball Jr weigh like 5.5oz? I know when I use too heavy of a bait it just doesn't feel good lol!! Feels like somethings gonna break. Anyway I was just wondering. Im still kinda new at this musky game too, I'm still learning.
@@ericpennington6530 you’re right I think it’s technically about the rating however I do regularly throw baits somewhat over ….I just won’t go crazy like I won’t throw big rubber baits with it. However I find that with the st croixs if u use lures that are say 25-50% over the top end of the rating they cast really really well and it works for me….
@@ericpennington6530 OK turns out I made a mistake....the lure I've been using is NOT the lake x lures cannon ball jr.....its the lake x lures fat bastard...which is only 3 oz
@@absoluteunitmedia ya know what? I thought it was a fat bastard. Not a hard mistake to make all those lake x surface baits look very similar. Their crushing that thing though. I'm getting one. Good luck out there bud!!
The first two fish encounters I saw them following the bait for at least 5 seconds each idk how no one can see the bulge of water behind the lure glare and all. I would dream to catch one of these fish. It’s all I fished for when I would go to Ohio to visit family
When those fish follow to the boat speedup and do a fast wide figureight and go fast underwater with the bait and occasionally bring it back up to the surface in the turns. That one that turned away at the boat would have murdered that fat bastard right at your feet in the first or second turn! Don't forget on straight retrieve topwaters, bucktails, and rubber baits half of your catches will be right at the boat! Great work though regardless I can see you got the passion of a beginner that just becomes obsessed! Rad Video!!!

Being able to spot the wake of the musky while top water fishing is key. Great job getting those beasts in the boat!!!
3 over 40 is awesome! That first strike was epic! Well done!

Wow what a day indeed! That last release was awesome, and that last miss I felt his pain 😮😢! Truly epic video, really enjoyed it.

It’s crazy where these fish can thrive and get this big. I’m sure there are some bigger Muskie in this river.

What material, lb and length of leader are you running with your top water baits?
9” 175 lb 49 strand steel leader I believe. Maybe not ideal but seems fine fit a straight retrieve Topwater like those

Mostly people will position their boat along shore and cast towards shore. The Canadian side is away from shore
