I've been using Optima Gold strings for several years now and love them. BTW you can buy single strings direct from Optima in Germany so you can stock up on 9's.
Sounds great, James! Mine haven't come yet. I m looking forward to them. Did you just say no more Queen? Surely, in their 50 yr career, there is something else! I might be forced to dig out all my old pictures! We re on our ninth week of stay home..can't have quarantine, and Queen withdrawal at the same time! Seriously, thanks for all you do! Hope you, and your family stay safe! Always a pleasure!
You should try a Vega Trem. I put one on my Brian May Signature gold top. I would suggest getting some 1/4 inch ID 28 threads per inch grommets first and pulling the ones that are in it. I personally wouldn’t use anything but Brian Mays optima gold strings. They have a special alloy in them to make them last longer, unlike the regular optima gold 9 42’s. I have tried both and they are about the same price. The Brian May optima golds sound very bell like to my ear.
I’ve been using optima gold strings for a few years, since I bought a new guitar that came with them. After a week of playing just that guitar the ends of my fingers were in much better condition, since then I’ve put the same set on all my guitars. I haven’t had a problem with sore callouses since
My wife reckoned I must have a nickel allergy, as I used to get a rash from the back of a wrist watch, and most strings are nickel plated. Optima do a chrome set as well which are a bit cheaper
I was lucky enough to get a set on a deal when I bought my Red Special direct from BMG. Wasn’t sure about using them but having watched this I’ll give them a go for definite. Looking forward to see where you take the channel. Watched you for years and the channel just gets better. You’re open, honest, humble and grateful and that’s why you have the following that you do. You’re not shabby a guitar player either 😉😂 Wishing you continued success!
I have used these on my Ibanez Jem 7vwh since Xmas 98 when my wife bought me a set,as she thought they would look great with the Ebony and gold hardware,,i humoured her,and fell in love with them, they were called Maxima gold, then changed names, when they bought out the BM set I was glad as the 3rd G was 16 rather than 17 on the set I started using, matching my Ernie gauge I used on my other guitars
They are very good strings. Nice tone. When I first put them on I felt I could bend so much more like my hands had been working out. I broke the E string after a while playing the riff from Layla bending at 15th fret. It is very annoying not being able to get a spare high E though.
I bought guitar with this strings and even are old I still not change because my les paul sound amazing and true is nice feeling with this string. They are expensive unfortunately but long lasting so worth to try for one guitar set.
Hi James! I notice that there are two Optima strings that have Brian May, one that has an older picture and one with a newer picture. I was wondering what the difference is, and where i can buy the older pair. Thanks!
Great strings. You can buy them individually if you break any, Astrings.co.uk (shop based in Treforest, South Wales) sell them. Very nice people and the owner Andrew is a huge Queen fan if you need Brian May related products astrings is the place to go.
@@jacoberiksson6401 thank you for the response, I do not have Instagram and read a brief article on this happening, I can't imagine what he could have been doing while gardening for him to be so injured, I hope his recovery is speedy.

Omg this just came out as I just picked them up from my mailbox after I ordered them last week.
My last pair lasted about 6 months, E string snapped last week
Dylan Butler my e string lasted a few weeks, about three or four I think. The rest lasted for quite a while.

I agree the strings felt almost softer and more elastic

Have been using these a while. Good old Brian he been sitting at home during lock down winding these strings! No more Queen OMG
Great job on continuity!! 😀. That last bit sounded great!...5:41-7:16. 🌸
Only one word for you James....BRAVO!!!
I bought those for myself for Christmas and I love them!!

They are nickel-plated steel plated again with gold. So they are not that different. The gold plating is mostly there for corrosion resistance.

Bought my first set last year and haven't looked back since 🙂

Good review. Thank you very much James. Regards.
Thanks for that review. I like your shirt by the way...
I’ve got these on my Red Special as well, .9 gauge. Sound great, but I’m not a fan of brand new strings. Like to get them played in for a few weeks.
Nice, I also use the Ernie Ball 9s
Can you go back on and remake some of your Queen Tutorials please
As some need updating 👍

I've played 9's for over 30 years, there's no way the high E should be snapping that quickly due to the gauge.
@astringsuk have been selling Optima Gold single strings in the U.K. for 15 years.
Long Away!!!! 💖
James, I just read Brian May hurt himself gardening, is this true? Cool video this one.
It is sadly true. Brian himself posted it on his Instagram yesterday
Brian is not to happy with Britain and the Prime minister

Expensive, but they truly are worth the money. By the way, I was wondering what amp you use?
Normally my Vox BM1 but in this video I’m using my Zoom4040 effects plugged into my hifi speakers
James Rundle Thank u. I have to invest in buying some for myself. They sound very nice.
