Stukov is an incredibly powerful commander in the co-op version of StarCraft 2. After leveling him up to level 15 I figured out several great unit compositions that he can be played with. My favourite one however, focuses around his basic units: The infested Terran.
In this video I explain how to effectively execute this strategy when completing Brutal missions with Alexei Stukov, and I explain what I focus on when upgrading and expansion before making the hordes of infested.

this never looked like brutal... Stukov looks very very powerful. that's really impressive
Stukov really does play as i expected and hoped, this is really cool tbh, not surprised at all that lowko loves stukov with his huge armies and being a hybrid of two races.
Don't cancel the upgrade tha DOUBLES the infested terran you produce!
Can you imagine what a proper infested faction would play like in multiplayer? I would love to main them.
This build is insane. I could solo a Brutal mission at lvl 8 without any trouble (my mate left instantly, probably because of my level). I feel like Stukov is a bit OP. I really enjoy playing like this. Thanks for the guide !
Loved the vid as always, bought Stukov moments after release and have him at lvl 6 already. Tons of fun... I know not as good as what you have but StarCraft is always going to be my hobby and joy.
Stukov has finally got me back into starcraft. Played for the first time in a couple years today.
Beware the wrath of swarm, for we are legion ...
Our names - Legion
Our blood - Ocean
I remember requesting Coop commander guides a while ago, you replied, and now here's a coop commander guide.. Cheers Lowko ;)
you really makes playing as stukov so interesting
This was really helpful, thanks. Before this video I was trying to make mech/air units, but it's way better to concentrate on infested marines.
Diamondback Spam is OP, so I'd consider that, also, dont worry about air, as the DB can use an ability to make an air unit a ground unit temporarily, only problem is the Ai Hero units, though I bet your partner can handle that :)
I am still annoyed that Stukovs face doesnt show up when he is talking like the other commanders
tzo anast He not completed yet @@
It does now :D
Nicely done lowko this is getting me more hyped for buying stukov and it helped me alot not that I will ever be as fast as you :P
Stukov + Stetmen combo would be the greatest. Speed minerals + heal/speed + swarms. Though the stet fields might not count as creep so that would be slower.
In Mutation Missions, You will most likely need to create a small force of mech with the large amount of mats your getting. I personally Find spamming diamondbacks effective, as they mow down forces with ease, and demolish any air forces by grounding them.
Hi Lowko, I really enjoyed your videos. Your video made me play Stukov and I loved every second of it. This is the first time I purchased a character. 🤣
I remember seeing those infested bunkers a while back lol
the infested bunker was shown as a test unit in wings of liberty so they revived it now
they also showed it at blizzcon as a potential for hots.
Rexoraptor hots heavily implied they would add it. but they seem to have cut it out. likely when they made the shift from being ghost / aggressor / infector in upgrades to the style we now see
now we just need a xelnaga commander, ouros. hybrid protoss and Zerg, but primal style. tiny army, all situational spellcasters, maybe even just hero primal hybrids, the lost Vikings style.
William S Honestly, I would prefer a Protoss Terran hybrid. Protoss Zerg would basically be another Stukov imo.
Theres this one very old StarCraft book that had a Terran Protoss Hybrid. I think it was called the Gestalt Zero
maybe an amon's hybrid type commander?
Ákos Ferenczi his name should be Jeff
well then, it looks like someone's wish came true
I find it a bit funny, yet interesting, how stukov is better at spreading creep than the zerg themselves. Like Stukov's creep cannot be REMOVED and it spreads everywhere :P seems like the zerg needs to learn from stukov.
Side note. I find it really odd how the apocalisk doesnt get movement bonus on creep. Sure its powerful, but that 1.88 speed is really painful.
I think the speed is a very valuable balancing factor.
RMJ1984 I mean, abathur said that he was the best human infestation he’d seen besides the primal queen of blades in the HOTS campaign
Up until hard even 3 barracks are neough. Stukov is actually easy to play. Just completly different.
Wheee.. good guide here.. It's exactly the same tactic I use.
Only difference is put a couple of tanks behind my bunkers to make sure that if my base gets attacked, they wreck em good, if my timing is off with my marine swarm.
My record for 'units made' in a game is 4500+
Combining Stukov with Nova is also a great way to use him, because she can use your units as a meatshield for her small super powerful expensive army. And her healing drones
Will keep that meatshield alive even longer. Zagara and Kerrigan are also good team ups, with zagara, you have an utter overkill of a swarm + a swarm, so the enemy simply doesn't have
Enough bullets to kill everything, and with Kerrigan, having her in the middle of such a huge swarm of infested works wonders.
Finally, the cloaky protoss ( forgot her name ) is another good combo, especially with the proper masteries. She uses her dark templar that nuke stuff all over the place, while your army destracs and kills stuff, and because she's protoss, she has Chrono boost on her command center.. put that on the civilian compound, and watch the swarms pour out at an even greater rate, it's scary.
Wow youve already max lvl with him? Been looking forward to this video!
+LowkoTV I love your videos and I have been subbed now for a few months and have watched a few of your streams I would love it if you did a few more guides but I know your busy with twitch and youtube but it would be nice p.s. don't stop making videos or streaming you may be small(ish) you are a great person and youtuber/streamer :)
More Stukov gameplay, Lowko!
I would love to see a mech build with Stukov. The bunker rax style seems super effective, mech + brood queens would be the high-value version.
+sfukuda512 I tried his several times but it builds up too slowly and seems much weaker.
i go tanks if i feel like i need aoe. and if you mine gas at both bases(:P) you can actually get a big number, though at the cost of supply for ITs.
It's NOT super effective. Look at his resources, he has none left. I played this map almost exclusively leveling and using ground mech or air and it has net me 10K+ resources left (200 with bonus and all). ZERO marines! This was pre mastery. I just did this map yesterday with Artanis pair with tank, bunker, turret, and I had 15K+ resources. This kind of buffer would help in mutations. Not the Christmas one of course, but say in Shir Chaos, try this marine low micro strat and you're screwed. lol
DBax + Banshees is my go to
Huge fan of your videos lowko, just got stukov for pre ordering the remastered starcraft and searched for a build and yours was the first to pop up. made my day :D
I like to use a few infested bunkers tanks and missiles for defense and use the infested style you use here also.
Hi LowkoTV! I guess you'd have to have a try to complete a co-op mission solo as Stukov. Has to be fun!
very helpful, like the play style
They could have been infestable by Infestors in the multiplayer by the Infestors in Heart of the Swarm or Wings of Liberty even, unfortunately this idea never made it to the final game.
Same with the Oracles could stasis mineral line, for the example.
Michael Šperl. If you wanna talk about cool infestations, in Starcraft original Queens can infest a command center at half hp and make it spawn infested terrans(50 hp SUPER FAST, and are basically banelings that do 500 Aoe explosion, cost is only 50 minerals and 20 gas
I played like this on my first round with stukov on this map on random xD Guess I had the right take and mindset.
That's it keep fighting. Push forward. Use all infested units. KEEP IT UP!
11:20 It looks like the Apocolisk drops a nuke before it drops in. Damn that would be sweet looking.
.......'Just because i like to watch things explode!!!!' XD I love it!
Lowko
the thing that I like about Stukov is that his bunkers can turn into tanks. Prob with them is that they are slow on creep but that shouldn't be a problem in small maps considering that his creep can spread by itself
Awesome vid, any chance of getting something similar for Zagara or Abathur?
DOOO MOAR PLZ!
Ey Lowko, a challange: beat this week mutation on brutal playing stukov :>
This weeks mutation is pretty easy in comparison to other o:O
But Stukov is absolutely unplayable for this mutation, because the mutator that turns enemies to bigger units triggers every time they kill one of your units, so every time one of your zombie dies, one enemy evolves, and you get hybrids on the first wave...
stukov's armor is designed to sit behind a wall of infantry do recommend the infested diamondback, It drag's air down to where your anti ground infantry can get to it
+lowkotv this is awesome.
Can you make them for all of the commanders?
sup lowkey love your vids. Could you please do a guide for all coop heroes pls. Have not found any youtube vids on coop guides....
13:20 Barrack rush. You are doing it wrong :DDD
Yeah. Bunkers are better, you just get a single 300 investment for endless units.
lots of player in coop mode don't even talk to you or give u any help whatsoever like on here clearing expansions, defending base, etc ! we need more of what is showed in this video for the starcraft C-O-O-P-e-r-a-t-i-o-n culture
I wish these factions were in tournament matches. It would put an interesting spin on things instead of just Terran, Zerg and Protoss
Already 57 in mastery?! You must really like this commander lowko :D
the mastery is count for the all levels 15
Hey, would you consider doing a starts guide? For people who are interested in playing it, but aren't as inept to fully understand the '+3/+3' stuff and build orders etc.
Seems fun but atm everyone play Stuky! Maybe i start to level up next week!
TY Lowko !
gg
hey Lowko or anyone ! why is the display of the coop menu is this way in this video?? is it possible to change it ?! thanks ! :D
I think if they ever create another coop commander it would be Mira Han. That would be awesome! :)
It took me a long time to find this style. Once I did, i found Stukov to be nigh unstoppable.
I've been logging into EU to relevel him from 1, and while yes, Barracks is still strong, it's not as convincing without the Apocalisk and the Aleksander. They really are the anchor that make the infantry unbeatable.
Personally, I think the higher chance of Volatile infested is better. They last long enough. It's not their duration that's an issue, it's their health pool. I also believe the Infest Structure is better than life regen. It helps push into forfeited positions better and to defend when an attack is incoming. Regen isn't gonna save them from Storms or a bunch of Tanks/Collosi
That Infantry spam strat sucks. He has no resources left. How would you think this work on a decent mutation. You want to see how much better it can be, I just did one with tanks, turret, bunker and no marines and posted screenshot on bnet forum post "Stukov first thoughts?". Almost 9K/5K after end kill. Go see if you don't believe. And he has more APM than me so...
Yeah, whatever makes it fun is good, but next Shir Chaos wannabe, you'll find you haven't developed the unit skilz. I mean, in my screenshot, apart from the 2 SE red dots (leftover from infested structure) it's a Total Map Clear. It mean's the defense line was so effective that my partner felt the need to carrier wipe every corner. Speaking of which, I always thought Lowko should Bonus and Map Clear his uploaded matches. As a pro player he can set a high standard and show his merciless pwnage iykwim! ;)
Stukov's sewer truck things are extremely good.
Siege Tanks behind bunkers make a decent defense setup for Temple of the Past, and since they all get up and walk, Miner Evac and Mist Opportunities too.
Other than that, Bio > Mech.
Lowko is absolutely on point with his commentary here but let me further explain for those who really want to try his mech options.
Stukov has good mechanical options. The problem is they’re inefficient and can play against his strengths. His strength lies in the macro. He has cheap, and very cost effective infantry, which all benefit from the same upgrade paths. His colonists work like a free wave of zerglings, and his marines provide cheap ranged support for them. While all of these are timed, they’re available in massive waves. If you play Stukov, you need to take the old Soviet approach. Throw bodies at problems.
Comparatively his factories have rather expensive tools that while more than adequate, require much better micro management to be worth their cost. His Diamondbacks are very powerful and can be useful for pulling down air targets, but their upgrades play against them in terms of value. It makes them leave a trail of acid that damages nearby enemy units. While on paper this plays towards their ability to kite and fire together, this rarely happens. Push deep and then get them out of fire quickly, use that mobile firing feature to hurt high value targets and then get them out. They’re still very fragile and need baby sitting.
The siege tanks are similar but require less babysitting. They fire colonists as ammunition, and feature deep tunneling. So they can quickly move to ideal positions to fire and take advantage of their powerful splash damage. Where they suffer though is in incredibly slow firing rate without ample infantry support.
In the Starport Stukov does better. He has access to infested banshees, liberators, and brood queens.
The banshees are fantastic units, with both cloaking, burrowing, a solid HP boosting upgrade, and the ability to burrow heal like roaches. They’re very solid, and can give you a small group of troops that can be micromanaged while your infantry handles the heavy lifting.
His liberators are a mixed bag. They don’t have the powerful defender mode, but conversely they have upgrades that emphasize their role as an air superiority fighter. They can be surprisingly durable, but also tend to struggle without significant support. They simply don’t have the intense firepower that upgraded marines provide.
His brood queens are great casters, but unlike the Zerg in general, where casters are crucial to success. The problem is that in Stukov’s case, they’re not that necessary.
Ultimately with all of these you aren’t paying for quality. You’re paying for manual control of these units. They can do well, but need support.
Ive played this type of build as well, and I do consider it the strongest.. But it doesn't always work on every map (choke points / entry to bases etc, can be a pain when they stop, shoot, stop, shoot). Also, its extremely fun to use ur factory (since you don't need it anymore) as an infected structure. Just keep him uprooted and let it walk into the enemy base, hit Infected Structure and let the broodlings do the dmg :P
Wow looking back at this, now there is 19 commanders?
Will anymore be added?
I'm thinking Vorazun would go well with Stukov because you don't need the expansion gas so she can take those (and possibly the main base second gas too)) and really pump out gas-heavy units without a nexus to mine it to nearby.
Edit:
Wait a second...you can move the infected civilian compound?
Stukov is an Infested commander but he hasn't infestors lmao!
You've heard of Howl's moving castle, but what about Stukov's crawling bunker?
Anybody could tell me if it's possible to bind some type of units under one button?
Aleksander got bugged out from the stasis trap that the bonus objective put on it.
+LowkoTV how does the infest structure cool down works? does it boost the infested spawn rate?
What I personally like to do is so start off defensive, then I build tons of bunker for infected marine spawning
What's your opinion on building a bunch of bunkers instead of multiple Barracks? If you need to send in an attack wave, just unload them all after setting rally point, a lot cheaper than building a lot of Infested Marines who are going to die anyways in the long run.
I find it frustrating getting supply blocked when spamming marines half way through the Barracks' charges. I mean I'm already saving up minerals for the marines, it's just more work to manage how many extra Overlords I need for the marines I might build.
Lowko plz do some Starcrafts
this build is a ton of fun, but get killed almost instantly to aoe such as storms. or bonus objective aoe. though I'm still low level so once I get Alex, hopefully things will change :p either way, thanks for posting this, will help with refining my build a bit ^^
Walking Barracks and bunkers LMAO what the hell is going on!?!?
In Soviet Russia, the base... ahem, ok i'll shut up.
@@overmind06 With Russian commander Stukov, the base is attacking you.
Giving Base Race a brand new meaning
In Soviet Russia, the base attacks you
My strategy is to just make loads of bunkers. Highlight all the bunkers and once they get filled up click and unload and you get an army of soldiers
For your particular playstyle, doesn't it make more sense to reduce structure cd rather than life regen? Also, does Artanis special shield works with your infested terran and civs?
yup, shields cover all units, including the ones with timed life, cracked a brutal korhal mission with that, a horde of shielded infested, it was glorious.
does it also shield zagaras banelings upon explosion ? and minibanelings too ?
Bournesax
last i checkecd they do get the shield but suicide explosion is suicide explosion and units created after it is used don't benefit.
Can you do a guide for Mengsk?
Also with stukov, I play him. I like to play him just by swarming my enemy, theres no need to like micro, as if you have alot of bunkers, maxed out infested terran hut you spawn waves of destruction, this can be viewed on all maps. Basically what im trying to say is. Stukov is the best commander in the game. If you decide that another commander like nova is. You'd be wrong.
Lowko do u think Stukov should be added to hots?
but he was in hearth of the swarm :P
Eagle Angelo there is sooooo many thing wrongs with what you just said first of all he was probably talking about heroes of the storm not heart of the swarm and it's HEART not what you said
Stukov is being added yo
Stukov is next confirmed
Andreas Hjalmarsson you just predicted the future
Hi Lowko, nice guide!
Why do you put so much workers on your minerals? Shouldn't 14 and 12 be the best saturation?
Kayzax He may not answer, but for me, I try to maximize efficiency from mining because Stukov's units are expensive and you honestly need a fast mineral gathering economy. I use a bunker build for the free troopers, but the bunkers cost 300 minerals each. Infested marines cost 25 each, so a load of 20 from a barracks is 500 minerals, so x5 barracks is 2500 minerals for marines that only live for like a minute. If you have a weak mineral income, then it's hard to keep consistent unit build up.
Thanks for your answer.
I did a test yesterday on Hard difficulty on the "defend the temple of past" mssion.
First i played with 14/12 workers on minerals and get 37.400 minerals over the whole game.
Then i played with 21/18 workers and collected 45.300 minerals.
In total i get 7900 additional minerals, but spend 650 minerals and 13 supply on the workers.
I think for commanders like stukov its better to max out the minerals, but with for example Vorazu, who needs much gas, it's not that important.
MORE WALKING BARACKS!!!!
nurgle has come to gift us with the might of this commander
Just noticed That the bonus obj made the Alexander bugged for Lowko and made it live forever. Cuz it's one of the only unit he can F2
Will there be another Hearthstone video soon?
I usually build a second command center first as you want to get the creep spreading as much and as far as possible early on. Only then do I build a barracks. If the first wave of enemies are coming in and your ally is no help, the infested civilians and structure infestation should do its job, and if that doesn't seem to be working out, a few marines should do the trick.
Rush B tactic in starcraft 2 is a thing now
Damn right George
I stopped playing Stukov because he is INSANELY over powered. With this commander, i can literaly finish any brutal on my own.
buildings can move, regenate, have weapon damn 🗿
Un pequeño destacamento mech adicional (dependiendo lo que necesites), complementa bien al ejercito biologico. De otro modo tu tiempo de respuesta es lento, excepto si peleas con bunkers desenterrados para compensarlo.
Just quick note for people trying to learn here. You should be moving your psi emitter way more often then he is. It doesn't matter if you are "wasting their attacks" that's the point.
Is it worth buying?
How do you build 59 Marines with one click? hotkey?
i go as far as Infested Siege Tanks, they are pretty good, and they use the Marines, Troopers, & Civilians as Ammo
basically use them as extra Bunkers
Siege tanks are indeed awesome. I have screenshot for this map I just did with almost 9K/5K resources left. I also have a screenshot for Mists map with queen/banshee/liberators 17K/4K resources left. On imgur it's a/wyMHq and a/yJWiz if you wanna see. Both are map cleared too! Try them out! :)
Iv found that going mass bunker is best strat for him
how do i get stukov in starcraft 2? is it an extra dlc or what?
Joseph Sedita yes, you have to buy him.
this is pretty much the same strat i use, cept i also use bout 5-6 Diamondbacks to take care of armored units or liberators if its void launch. but going pure mech its just way too gas expensive to do
I am pretty sure you get carried by that Nova a lot though. Still a good guide anw
I find more effective, depending on the map (the train one is pure pain for me as Stukov), to spam bunkers and pop out free infested marines while the civilians are attacking and support them with a small air/mech army
For the train one go mass diamondbacks
If anyone played a warcraft 3 map "Земли бога" (I dunno if it has EN version) Stukov is basically gameplay as Devil role by Zombie race.
*Ow, my eyes are burning*
i still can't get used to dealing with baneling comps from the AI. they wipe a lot of my infested terrans very rapidly unless i micro them to target fire (troopers and marines) or make sure one of the melee infested jump to trigger them so that they don't detonate within range.
i tend to build a lot of bunkers though (using only 3 barracks instead)
The Apocalisk baffles me.
Did Stukov trap a Ultralisk and weld guns on it? Is it a random Ultralisk that hatched inside a Thor?
Did the Terrans make it?
i just wish there was more variety to the infested infantry because i don"t like using the mechs for stukov either, i would like to be able to build something along side the infested marines like a roach variant or the aberrations, but since Zagara has those they don't let stukov have them witch sucks
This vid keeps making me think about Carbot Animations... "Nova, Stukov, become friends(but not really) CO-OP missions!" XD but like, great there Lowko, but like, what are the buildings that make creep, like, I think maybe the Colonist Compound makes creep, but like does the Infested Barracks spread creep too?
With Stukov the creep is spread by your hatcheries and is spread infinitely across the map the whole time. First it is a little bit restricting compared to other zerg but in the lategame the whole map is full of creep.
Christian Kratz Ah nice, thanks.
Was thinking, if Stukov is paired with Kerrigan does her creep buff effect his as well? Or is it just within the radius spread by her own creep tumors?
***** Well according to Blizzard, Creep is... well Creep and it affects all Zerg units, so Stukov could most likely benefit Kerrigan Zagara Abathur and probably even the enemy Zerg...
The Alekzander fly's again 😅
I think its not that you should ignore mech units, more like think of them as the support units. like build diamondbacks if you wish to help aid in bringing down air units. build siege tanks on more defensive missions where static defenses help out more, though cant really see the point of liberators and banshees, maybe if you want more of an airforce than a ground force? maybe for like the lava mission where flying is a little more helpful? and queens if you wanna just fool around, though they are useful detectors if you need one.
that is probably what they want to be the main play style for stukov.
Darkendragon for some reason, outside of anti Pheonix and anti mutalisk, the liberators he has are pretty trash.
He has like no resources left at end of game. I did this map all the time leveling using ground mech or air mixed units, ZERO marines. I got to 200 and had 10K+ resources left (bonus and all), pre-mastery. Many times. Just did one yesterday with Artanis partner using tank/bunker/turret. 200 with 15K+ resources left. Good thing he shielded my overlords from scorge. You can use the extra money on a hard mutation like Shir Chaos. This marine strat won't work there! lol
The horror of what happened to the remnants of the exiled UED forces is frightening.
instead of 10 barracks i use the same play style but i use 10 bunkers and maybe 2 barracks u can unload inf riness for instant units on top of barracks queue builds
