I've been a mail carrier at USPS for about 15 years now. What you should know up front is that you could get called-in for work at any hour of the day or week. Even Sundays if your office has Sunday delivery. Your hours could vary wildly from 8 to 60 Hours a week depending on how staffed your office is. Management can be awful at times but I've laughed them off many times. If you can handle that, are serious about the job and don't mind sometimes waiting years to get a full time route... it can be a great career for anybody. Took me about 7 years to reach full time as a Rural Carrier. City Carriers with more routes probably don't need to wait that long. After starting out with limited hours making around 35K a year. Last year had 70K Gross income. It won't come easy. But the job itself does become much easier as time goes on and you know what to expect.
@@steffenchambers4280 Get ready for war. Some offices don't get nearly enough help. It will likely be a rough year. First goal is getting through the 90 day probation period. Thanks for all your insight and support. Im 53 retired military and will be starting orientation soon as a CCA. Ive been wracking my brain if i should transition from my state job to USPS but you make it easier to get an idea of what to expect 😊
RESPECT! You're doing a great public service Jay. I retired as a clerk, so I know about the USPS. Ignorant people out there see it as a $16/hr job with terrible hours, hard work and inept supervision. Which is true but as you say, the reality is after a few years: $60k income without OT, up to $100k with OT. Benefit upon benefit and lifetime job security. No experience necessary. Can't beat that.
100% agree that young people should give this a try and get some skin in the game. I am only 20 years old and am definitely looking forward to my orientation and training coming next week at 8:30am sharp. "No man is more unhappy than he who never faces adversity. For he is not permitted to prove himself."
You have no idea how much of an impact you have on people. I have orientation on the 30th and I'm battling this in my mind telling myself I can't do this. 😳 But I know that isn't true. You're video helped me snap out of it. This job opportunity is a blessing... and we worked too hard to get this far and just give up. Thank you Jay H. I appreciate you.
Been contemplating about showing up with my orientation on the 28th of this month and watching this did give me some assurance of that it’s going to be alright and you need to step out of your comfort zone! Been at my current job as a butcher for over 9years now and I decided it was time for a switch up and always had a curiosity to work for the USPS and now that it’s right around the corner it’s exciting thank you again for the great video!
I have orientation next week for CCA and in the meantime I've been working as a Amazon delivery driver and Working out everyday to physically prepare for being a CCA. I'm trying to not be nervous but I have the mentality that I absolutely need this and I must succeed. Thank you for your tips and advice.
I'm a retired combat veteran with disabilities. I have multiple degrees with 20+ years worldwide experience during the most dangerous situations imaginable. I made it. It took me 10 years after retiring to realize I can't quit and there is more for me. I'd like to think I have a lot to offer but I will, as I did initially with my military Basic Training, start from ground zero with the USPS and work my way through it like I always have. I have no idea how to make my play but I will fall upon core values I honed throughout my USAF career ... 1) Integrity first, 2) Service before self, and 3) Excellence in all that I do. I'm not only prepared for the challenges, I expect them. In two days, I begin USPS Orientation as a CCA and from there we will see. Never let the bastards keep you down and remember ... Iron Sharpens Iron. Until the next episode ... Peace.
Everything you said is true. I'm still in my first ninety days working as a clerk. I had five days of on the job training (which equates to 20 hours) then they left me to work alone in a small town office. I'm the only employee. There is no one with me to answer my questions. So many days I told myself I couldn't do it. There's too much information to retain. But, as you stated, it gets easier. I learn by doing & making mistakes & my brain is totally cashed by the end of the week. Then on Sundays they have me travel to a different location to sort Amazon parcels. I consider that my work-out day. Eight hours of standing, lifting, moving & palletizing parcels. Btw, I'm a female of 52 years & keeping up with the younger ones - for now. Thank you for what you do!
Depending on your position, you will have 2 1/2 days of orientation and if you are a RCA or CCA you will finish the last day with defensive driving. PSEs do not stay for defensive driving. So in other words 3 days of orientation for RCA/CCA. During orientation, we were given our schedule for LLV training and Shadow day which must be completed before RCA or CCA Academy. So I had a total of 40 hrs for the week. I have RCA academy for 4 days from 7am-3:30pm M-Th and the following week will be 3 days of on the job training, Tues-Thurs and that Friday I will be subbing that route. Hopefully this information is helpful to you all.
Hey Quick question, so you were hired as RCA? Do you have to use a personal vehicle at your station? if so what kind are you using if you don’t mind me asking thanks!
Salina yes as a RCA, having a POV or Privately Owned Vehicle, is a requirement. You will only use a LLV, which is the postal vehicle, if your route has one or on Sundays to deliver Amazon packages. Even if the assigned route you are subbing for has a LLV, that doesn’t mean that every route you pick up from other regulars or other stations will have them. So it’s a must. I have a Kia Soul. I had to unscrew my armrest in order to be able to straddle my console and drive. But I can put it back in whenever I’m not working without having to reattach the screws.
Salina I know a girl in my class that is driving a Chevy Aveo and her route has at least 600 mailboxes, so I’m sure your Prius will work just fine. If the parcels don’t fit on one trip you should be able to make a second trip. Who know, you might use an LLV for your route. I know on Sundays everyone uses an LLV to deliver Amazon packages. Just hang in there and you will do fine. Don’t give up ok 😊
I’ve been watching your videos for 2hrs trying to prepare myself I’m 23 and I start orientation next week youre giving me a lot of motivation I didn’t have when I applied and I appreciate you a lot for it
Bro you're speaking facts from experience and even from my experience, my first day as a CCA doin Oji training wasn't bad at all, I forgot a few packages, and couldn't find a few mailboxes, but it got easier the second day, knowing when to stop at a certain address when pulling mail to do a park and loop, by simply looking across the street lol..Its not bad at all once you get the hang of it..I only been there a few days and my Supervisor likes my progress in such a short period of time, he said I can move up and convert to a career employee before 90 days...Its motivation to be better, yeah it's not a easy job, but when I see the older career employees there smiling and cracking jokes, I say to myself, there's no excuses to not be able to do this, when I'm in great shape and ambitious...I want all the overtime and double time I can get...Money is why were here right? Let's get it 💰💰
Damn dude, you don't know how much I appreciate a video like this. I will be listening to this on the daily to get me through the beginning of this journey with the USPS. Thanks for your uplifting words Jay.
Been watching your videos to get me prepared for the road ahead. I just went for my fingerprints yesterday & can’t wait for the orientation letter to show up! I’m ready to leave managing a retail store & have a great career to provide for my family with USPS!
Been at the post office for 8 years now and I'm thankful I was able to buy a brand new car amd currently I'm getting my house built from the ground up I came a long way
Have worked for the post office twice started as mail handler holiday season which I really liked then went to CCA once that assignment was done. Now I’m going back again as a mail handler assistant. It’s not organized however it’s worth it pay, benefits, and I took a 5 day trip every year for my birthday with at least 3,000 in cash just as spending money. Helped get car, house and go back to school. I started when I was 20 or 21 stayed 2 1/2 years and now I’m 25.
Thanks OG for the words of wisdom, I start orientation Monday. Going the RCA route I’m excited I got this job, I’m all about the outdoors even out here embracing the suck in the Midwest. Thanks again !
Thank you very much. This is exactly what I was looking for to prepare for my first day as CCA in a few weeks. I am 51 years old and after my work closed 1 1/2 years ago i have been working a a casino dealer and looking for a job that I will be the best for me for the next 20 years. After much research I believe this is the job. I have the resilience to make it through the first 6 months + in route to a long term future. You did an awesome job with this video in describing in the most realistic way of what to expect. Thank you again.
Lol I was so gosh dang nervous with my CCA orientation coming up on Monday but this well put together video and seeing how nervous everyone else is is comforting. I'll just take it one day at a time and let God guide me to whether this is something I should continue to do.
Dont let the hype over take your mind. My daughter and son are carriers. Check out the interviews i have with them. Maybe that will give you sum clarity.. 😁
Amen amen and amen let God leads you we gonna make it I am gonna goto my orientation soon with the blood of Jesus on me so stay focused stay encouraged and be blessed

I had my meeting with the postmaster back in July. Was told Im hired but never got a call. So I started a new job. Just yesterday they called and they offered me my hometown. I'm very excited I am starting orientation on the 18th. This video is exactly what I need to hear before going in. I walked away from a good transport Driver job with a cannabis company to try this. So I'm 100% committed no matter how difficult and straining it will be.
That's funny I have a similar story I applied in October everything went well and I never got an email back and then out of nowhere a few weeks ago I got an email tell me to come in so they can take my fingerprints in the background check and last week I got hired in my hometown and I have orientation the 26 so I'm super excited and happy for you too One good thing about technology and social media now we can all communicate and help each other and talk to each other
I just wanted to thank you. YOur videos really helped me not only get the job, but choose the office that was the best fit for me. I applied late October and got my Orientation November 20th! Today was my first day after OJT and I am very happy. Your videos are the best because of how honest they are so thank you!
21 and just starting on my journey to work with USPS. Live right around the corner from my local office. I love fast paced hard work and the pay sounds amazing. Where I work currently the pay as a full time MANAGER is only a few cents ahead of a part time donut boy 💀. It’s killing me. Your video has really helped give me that last push to go for it. I also really appreciate you saying “if you celebrate it”. It seems small but it acknowledges many people of other beliefs and practices!
New subscriber here and I am absolutely loving your videos. Very informative, inspiring and to the point 🤙i just recently completed my fingerprint session and waiting for my background check, i will be an PSE in Hawaii. Thanks again for your awesome videos
Still relevant clip! I lost my job Yellow was there for 10 years, this is a no-brainer job no matter what I am doing. I am 50 I have in 112-degree heat with no liftgate and only a 2-wheeled dolly emptied a 24' pup trailer into a shoe store in a mall, Knock on wood I can now do this. I hope? Thank you for the insight.
That was the best rendition of what to expect going forward with the USPS. Especially after waiting 2 months for the orientation email...Thanks for that !
My dad has been working there 50 years and he makes good money I've been there 3 seasons now im waiting to get in permanently as a processing clerk the money is nice cant turn it down anymore
Fellow mail carrier here in the Boston area this is my 6th year! First 2.5 as a CCA and then since mid 2019 been a Regular. Great steady pay, health benefits, and vacation time! Will I stay the whole 30 who knows but it beats working in a cubicle all day pushing paper haha
Got my orientation date for Mail Handler Assistant, so excited my Grammy has been with the post office for over 25 years and now she is a district supervisor in the post office 🤞🏿❤️
Thank you, this was helpful. I just got offered a PSE job. I'm 62 yr old woman who was a barber x 40 yrs. Hopefully I will be able to keep up with the hard work. I'm used to hard work.
I'm a Driver safety instructor/SSDA clerk for the post office. Footwear is evaluated due to frequency to foot injuries caused by rolling stock and other equipment on the work room floor. Tripping hazards and slips are also factors of proper footwear. Open toe, elevated heal and fabric shoes can be rejected by management if they discover them on employees. Our new employees go through 2 days of in class paid orientation in this district. Carriers go through 2 days with me (DSI) to get right side drive certified before they go to career academies for rural or city carriers. We also have Assoc. Rural carriers that deliver amazon on Sundays and Holidays. Covid has squashed "shadow days" as 2 carries in a vehicle all day is a no no.
Hello, I'm very interested in applying for CCA or RCA positions and my question is: since I'm hard of hearing impaired and I also wear a sound processor on my head so I could hear, will this be a problem for me to go over the orientation class and training. Thanks for your videos they are very helpful.
Orientation tomorrow morning at 7am as CCA. Coming from working Amazon as a step van driver for 11 months. I use everyday as a workout an hit the gym after work. I really can’t wait. Around the time I was hired at amazon 2 weeks later usps had hired me but I turned them down. Was my biggest mistake, I would’ve had 11 months under my belt but I got my feet wet in the delivery world an absolutely love it. I can’t wait☺️
i appreciate the words, i start 22 August. I stopped by the office last week to meet the team. I am really excited! RCA for now but I might try to switch over to cca so i can make regular sooner.
I love your motivation bro. I'm starting my orientation this Tuesday. I'm excited to start I worked 15 years installing office furniture and just lost my position because the company out sources the help. I'm a hard worker and seen so much negative stuff but I think it's because people don't won't to work. Thanks for your videos

#stepup! I am stepping up!! Got my offer letter today !!! Super excited to finally be able to give me three kids a good life and care for my momma!!! I was told as a young kid in 3rd grade that I would never make it in life due to my learning disability’s. But I have passed my CNA exam at 18 worked as a CNA for 5 years then got my RMA license and pass the state board at 25. Was going to RN when the pandemic hit and after my 3 baby two months ago I have decided to make a change! #formychildern #formyfamily #forme
If you made it as a CNA ?...YOU GOT THIS...CNA, RMA, that's hard work, little pay and even less respect for the job you do. Congrats on the 3rd baby and the new job!
Yo Jay thanks for the blueprint on passing the 474.. listened to at least 5 other videos on tips to pass and was Clueless about the test then I found your video and felt more confident than all those other videos put together about taking it. Ended up getting a 99 score👍 now I got hired as a CCA in San Luis Obispo working at the beach 🏖️😎🙏 appreciate the words of wisdom 💯
Thank you for the motivation, I start my orientation on Halloween 2022..I’m in San Diego so I won’t have to worry about cold…but then summer days are going to tough…I just gotta to remind myself to hydrate 😅

Post Office, FedEx etc... are very good jobs. It does get easier as time goes on. Took a little while for me to learn my route and once you have your route down it's a cake walk. The younger folks I work with bitch and complain more because they have to actually work and sweat a little bit. The older folks don't say anything and just get the job done and go home.
I’ve been watching videos like this cause this would be my 2nd job ever. So I was psyching my self out. Kept reading the comments and it wasn’t helping lol but thanks man. You’re real AF. For checking people and telling them to calm down
I'm through orientation, drivers training, and carrier academy on my end and also just finished 3 on the job training days and in the morning will be delivering a route by myself. Hopefully goes well! But will update later on. I will say he is spot on talking about orientation and classes but its totally worth it to get into working at USPS. I am an RCA in a rural town as well
@@garytellez1 my route went fine but I will tell you it was a lot longer day than watching the regular do it. I was stressed at times but I stopped and cleared my head for a minute and kept going. So true. It does get easier over time and not meant for everyone. I'm a custodian for almost two years now in Brooklyn. And I was also cca for a short time and a pse mail processing clerk for the holiday season.
I was just offered a City Carrier with career benefits to start. Wish me luck on my new journey. I was told I would be full-time in less than 6 months. Lost my job as a Supervisor for a shipping department so this is a $7 pay cut. Hoping to recoup by working overtime. Thanks for sharing these videos.
Some offices move faster than others it seems. Just some info on how my process has been so far. I applied to CCA on 6/29. Conditional Job offer and Background check on 7/7 Fingerprints 7/13 Emailed my orientation date on 7/29 Start Orientation on 8/3. The only negative I would say so far is I wasn't able to put in a 2 weeks notice to my current employer. It was a 2 day notice. As bad as it sounds I don't feel bad cause he cut my hours to 1 day a week when covid started which greatly impacted me financially. but overall Less than a 2 month process for me.
U blessed!! I almost thought you were a troll when i first saw ur name on here.. lol.. Im glad ur about to start your new journey.. n i pray ur sucess!!
I just came across your video and I truly appreciate it. I have applied for a Postal job, this info is very helpful to me. Thanks so much and have a blessed day!
Finally received my orientation date! Been applying since November and after canceled positions and no call backs. I finally have an orientation update!
Thanks for the video, Jay! About to start my orientation, and I’m ready! Coming from nursing homes, I’m already used to the idea of being my feet all day and lifting up 70 or more pounds.
My orientation as a CCA starts the 3rd, I thought I was going to be able to put in a 2 weeks with my current employer but I guess not. They just gonna have to understand this is more beneficial to me having a career
On monday they called me and told me orientation was the 31st (in one week) so I told my current job one week was all I could do. By the time I got home they called me back and said they were wrong and that it was going to be on the 8th, 2 weeks later. My dad (a clerk) heard it and said "welcome to the postal service..." Lol
Appreciated you my men!! For some reason, you've made my confidence a bit more stronger... I'll be starting on my station in just 3 days as a CCA. Thanks for giving me the confidence that it will be worth to try.

It definitely gets easier with time. After my first day I was at home thinking about not going back again. But hey i talked to myself and said hey, give it a shot man, changes cause fear sometimes, this is a federal job, not everybody has this opportunity to get 17 or 18 dollars an hour. It is 2 months since I started and In my first week i was working by myself (AUTOMATION). Like Jay sais, it gets easier with time. Be a hard worker, ask questions, be open to learn. Dont Quit. P.S. two days ago I checked and I moved from IN PROCESS to PREHIRE LIST on a CCA position a applied on 7/13/2020. So if I get the offer I'm taking it definitely !

Thank u for ur service as well
Thank you for your share
I start tomorrow and Im 52 .... I do hope its worth it and the money gets better
Thank you mucho Miss!!
Thanks for responding, I go to do my fingerprints tomorrow for a ARC bt I’m going to be using a Prius and was trying to see if that would work.
I’ve been watching your videos for 2hrs trying to prepare myself I’m 23 and I start orientation next week youre giving me a lot of motivation I didn’t have when I applied and I appreciate you a lot for it
currently in the same situation lol. hows it going so far?
How’s your job since 1yr ago? Every what you get a raise ?
Im glad u find em uplifting.. lol.. its just real from what ive seen first hand !! Good luck 😁😁
Been watching your videos to get me prepared for the road ahead. I just went for my fingerprints yesterday & can’t wait for the orientation letter to show up! I’m ready to leave managing a retail store & have a great career to provide for my family with USPS!
I'm in the same boat right now.
Working at the post office is the easiest technical job there is. I agree with ever thing you. I’m 6 months into grind. 100% real talk!
I have my orientation this Monday the 12th of June, and seeing your video really helped to calm my nerves! Thank you so much for helpful video
Been at the post office for 8 years now and I'm thankful I was able to buy a brand new car amd currently I'm getting my house built from the ground up I came a long way
👌👌👌🙏🙏🙏... We need to hear your story!!
Blessings n safety your way.. !
Thank u for your service!!
Good job I start tomorrow
You go girl
@Shawny Monique are you a CCA ? I start training in 2 days 🙂
What was the orientation like for the mail handler and are you allowed to wear hats?
This was absolutely amazing, motivational, and informative. Thank you!
I'm starting orientation 1/31/2023.

Only he brings me through these days.
What's up? I am on my 3rd day academy I learn a lot
I've been waiting for 5 months for an orientation date...
That's funny I have a similar story I applied in October everything went well and I never got an email back and then out of nowhere a few weeks ago I got an email tell me to come in so they can take my fingerprints in the background check and last week I got hired in my hometown and I have orientation the 26 so I'm super excited and happy for you too
One good thing about technology and social media now we can all communicate and help each other and talk to each other
I just wanted to thank you.
We're you ever drug tested?
How has it been so far working for USPS ?
This is the best video I've come across yet on USPS. Mail Carrier pursuit aside, this is an example of the kind of man I'd wanna be in general.
I’m starting as an RCA April 18th. This video helped ease my mind🙏🏽🔥 thank you brother
That was the best rendition of what to expect going forward with the USPS. Especially after waiting 2 months for the orientation email...Thanks for that !
"Try it before you deny it" preach brother! Just got out the Army and I start orientation next week!

Congrats, how long did it take after your fingerprints were taken.
Thank you, this was helpful. I just got offered a PSE job. I'm 62 yr old woman who was a barber x 40 yrs. Hopefully I will be able to keep up with the hard work. I'm used to hard work.
Are you still working there
I'm a Driver safety instructor/SSDA clerk for the post office. Covid has squashed "shadow days" as 2 carries in a vehicle all day is a no no.
hi michael , DELSON CAMBEN SNEAKER are these okay or do these full under unsafe footware
Question for TTO what the shoe policy?? It looks like just no-slip shoes
I didn't know about the shoe material. Thank you.
@@matthewmontalvo5066 yo man, I have my orientation in Thursday. I did my fingerprints on may 29. So it took a while. Prepare to wait.
This man is a blessing! He’s like a father figure!
🤣
Thank you. I’m thinking about applying and I know the first several months at my current job was uncomfortable, too. You’re encouraging!
I love how real you are. I have orientation coming up this Saturday.
Congradz
This truck drive gave me encouragement not to be nervous in the operator exam in October I am a 20-year USPS contract now I look for the best mail
i appreciate the words, i start 22 August. I stopped by the office last week to meet the team. I am really excited! RCA for now but I might try to switch over to cca so i can make regular sooner.
Dont give up. Stay focused
Ive done your type of work.. many years..
just got hired and start on the first.... CANT WAIT!!!! I've done far worse jobs for far less. I welcome the challenge and can't believe there's these resources on UA-cam thank you!
🥳🥳🥳
I'm currently retail stocker so I'm kinda use too... lifting, bending, squatting and weather, I worked in the freezer b4.... I'm going to USPS because I'm rdy to build retirement while I'm still young f.y.i I'm 29..... great video btw

Your video made me feel so much better about being a future CCA! Thank you!
Soooo true! I loved it. I had to resign because of my daughter being sick but I’m going back.
Starting soon, no stranger to hard work but excited by the possibility of a career.
Thank you! My orientation is coming up for CCA and I’ve been so anxious. This is very motivational.
Good luck to you all. I've been a carrier for just over 2 years, can't wait to bounce. This WILL be my last year carrying for the P.O.
Thanks for your service! 🙏🙏
I am an RCA in a rural town as well
How did your solo route go? I have orientation tomorrow and am stressing a bit!
@@garytellez1 my route went fine but I will tell you it was a lot longer day than watching the regular do it. I was stressed at times but I stopped and cleared my head for a minute and kept going. I did finish and feel better and will learn to get better. So just know orientation is just sitting there listening to people talk about safety and do's and don't situations.
Thank you for your video i start my orientation this Monday for PTF career and I been seeing different videos that was scary and I lost my job due the company was sold so I been unemployed since July 2023 and Iam very grateful that im getting a chance to work for the usps please keep your finger crossed for me to pass the CCA Academy. Again thank you for sharing information and motivation 🙏🏾
So true. It does get easier over time and not meant for everyone. I'm a custodian for almost two years now in Brooklyn. And I was also cca for a short time and a pse mail processing clerk for the holiday season.
You have a CAKE Job ❤️ they didn’t have that position anyplace I applied
Same question how much do Custodians make at USPS
I was just offered a City Carrier with career benefits to start. Wish me luck on my new journey. I was told I would be full-time in less than 6 months. Lost my job as a Supervisor for a shipping department so this is a $7 pay cut. Hoping to recoup by working overtime. Thanks for sharing these videos.
Some offices move faster than others it seems. Just some info on how my process has been so far.
I applied to CCA on 6/29.
Conditional Job offer and Background check on 7/7
Fingerprints 7/13
Emailed my orientation date on 7/29
Start Orientation on 8/3.

I'm going to orientation this Monday. Your videos helped me out so much. I aced the 474 because of your videos. I can't wait to start a new chapter after being a security guard for the past 15 years. I can actually work towards a career and retirement. That wasn't an option as a securty guard. There's no future in that.
