Shoe storage is so confusing, I’ve watched videos from well respected sneaker heads where they swear on their momma that shoes need to breath and you should not keep them in bags or anything air tight. Now miss Nike herself says that I should store them air tight. IDK WHAT TO DO!!
Remember air is what breaks down rubber and the foam nike use for its air sole. Ziplock bags are a great idea.
@@lewwallace5915 i did store my shoes in plastic bags. It was a disaster. I'm confused!
U shouldn’t use zip blocks bags but if you are u should take out the show a few times so it can breathe a little bit. The reason why u don’t want to keep ur shoes airtight is because the shoe will get no fresh air to breathe so the midsole will crumble directly in ur hands.
This is confusing me too
confusing me too…what to do??
Omg you are so beautiful AND your a sneaker legend....literally the whole package. Enjoy ur vids sooo much❣️🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼
Might as well do a Collection video since you’re going to reorganize them anyway...?
Valid point!
I very much want to see a collection video. You seem to have some really rad stuff and things you worked on, so you have special insight, etc. That's a draw no other person has on this platform.
I would love to see you cut open some shoes and talk about the tech inside them. I’m always curious about the cushion inside shoes.
thanks, i have been pondering the idea. i think it would be fun too.
I like the sterilite 1924 containers.. I wear a size 13 and they're perfect for my sneakers and boots and I use the iris 110531 containers for my low tops.. Might try some drop fronts soon..
Great, now I can't stop thinking that the pile of shoeboxes next to my bed is full of spiders (or worse, house centipedes).
yes centipedes are even worse..... make the switch to plastic!!!
Gonna second what others have said: can't wait for a collection vid (or maybe an interview with Jacques where you show all of the shoes you worked on?? Because I somehow never saw those Air Raids before).
I also use a bunch of clear containers from the Container Store and IKEA, but I keep my cardboard boxes as often as possible because they feel like a part of the shoe to me. Not great for stacking but I love them, especially the older brown/orange and orange/grey Nike boxes :)
Get the glad zip lock storage bags. It will remove air and compress the bag to the shape of your shoe.
I love how you sound it’s like nothing when you mentioned you worked on the shoe project haha
I'm early. I may as well say that you make great videos Tiffany! Keep on trucking.
Spiders love cardboard?!! Great info here and motivation 😆
SO DO ROACHES LOL
New to the channel and really excited about it. Looking forward to more great videos!
rate this vid, keep up the stellar work Tiffany. other element to manage is light, esp direct sunlight...
Super informative video, definitely made me rethink how I store some of my shoes! :)
I have to tell you wearing the shoes are the biggest combatant of degrading midsoles I have stored shoes zipped up and in plastic air tight containers amd my 99 black cement air Jordan 5s still held up over close to 20 years later
GT Creations just like that? Zipped up and store it back inside the box?
Lee Samson I can only go by experience but 2 shoes I barely wore since 2002 basically are crumbling the 99 Jordan 4 and 99 Jordan 5 I wore a lot and to this day they are still strong. Same my midsole material. My 2 01 and 02 pairs I barely worn and the midsoles are sticky and crumbling. All of my shoes are not in bags airtight or not. But all my shoes are kept at a constant temperature and when it gets hot I air them out. Again my own experience
Im thinking of trying this “ziploc method” on my double-up’s. You think they’ll be good years from now when i need to unds them?
Lee Samson I don’t ziplock anything Jordan 1s will be fine ziplocked or not but a few years from now should be ok 7 or 8 years after release and unworn is risky
Thanks bro! So i guess my breds 1 are ok in their og box for years then ... only my white cement 4s needes the ziploc method
I leave it in the wooden cupboard no mold i use naftelin balls in the cupboard its fine i dont use airtight boxes …
Jumpmanbostic uses cheap white hand towels and wraps the shoes instead of the tissue paper in the boxes
Drop front boxes from The Container Store are the TRUTH.
thanks for the tips! another informative video. :)
Big fan of your channel, especially because of your background and wealth of knowledge. I know a lot of people that use the drop front clear shoe box that’s avail from the container store, would you recommend those? Or what’s your take on them. Thanks for all the informative vids.
ive only looked at them in container store and i personally dont care for the look fo them, although functional.
I'm gonna keep an eye on the boxes in the background when I'm watching your videos now in case I see a huge "leggy creature" just casually chillin' .lol
Yikes...never knew that about spiders. Time to do some clean up and container shopping. Always learning something knew. #andnowIknow
How about shoe tree that comes together? Can we put openly without container/box in room temperature? Any harm?
Awesome vid! LOVE your hair!
what about good ventilation in those boxes please? you do not have issue with decomposing the outsole due to no air
I ahve timberland original I do not know how to store it for decade type properly
Hey Tiffany, my only question is - while it's definitely good to see what the contents are with clear plastic I wondered about LIGHT/UV damage making shoes fade over time? Now I'm thinking about buying some boxes to protect some of my collection - thanks :) Chris [ex-Retrobok]
you are correct. in the description i mention to keep your shoes away from the light/windows to prevent yellowing and further deterioration from UV.
How about reselling? usually having the original box is important for reselling. Or putting the shoe box in the plastic container?
Thanks for the video
I think I saw her on a video recently where she says that she doesn’t ever resell her shoes, so probably not a big issue for her. But I definitely do like to have the box.
Super good advices! Thank you!
I don't have a garage and I do not wear shoes in the house. Since COVID, not only do we take our shoes off but I spray the bottoms with alcohol as soon as they are removed. So here's my problem. I have a lot of boots. I store them in plastic containers from the "Container store" but I feel like when I put them back after wearing them they have germs on them. Do you clean your sneakers/shoes after wearing them? I know it's a bit OCD but I'm grossed out at the thought of what may come in from outside on the bottom of a shoe. Prior to COVID, same issue. The streets are full of....UGH! Do you store them after wearing them with out cleaning them first??
dang she married
You unfollowing now?
She has grey hairs... no standards?
Hi Tiffany,
How can I keep my sneakers in a crate and still protect them from humidity? I want to display them but at the same time obv protect them as well. Would appreciate any advice!
Please help! Thanks
So awesome! Thank you for everything!
Really interesting, i like the display, but do you keep the origal boxes even if the kicks are in those plastic storages ?
place each shoe into a freezer. bag and then. place them in boxes and toss them in a clean loft-as I am a party gal and have over 1.500 pairs of shoes-i just have a shoe addiction
How about just zip lock back in in the normal boxes? Are you being uber protective with the zip lock and plastic box? I like my OG boxes!
If I keep the shoes with the boxes in a luggage bag closed with silica gel bags in the luggage .. will the shoes survive . I’m talking about new sneakers …keeping inside luggage means away from air as well..
A girl sneaker head? Same!!!
lies
Being a former Nike innovator and Plastics Engineer, you seem like you would know about the materials of the shoes really well. Has anyone reached out to you and asked you about the recent problems with some Jordans, especially 1’s, with black leather. They are developing a GLITTERING affect. Some of my shoes have it so bad it kind of looks like moss growing on rocks except its more clear glittery looking. Any idea why that might be happening? Would the Zip Lock bags help with that? Thanks.
Not sure about the bag but I tried timberland leather protector on mine and they haven’t had any glitter on them yet. I’ve done it on ones with glitter and it hydrated the leather, took it away. So far my collection of DS shoes looks like I just got them. Especially my 2003 patented Chicago.
@@Juniors412 patent*
I got drop front boxes .. Sunlight is a no go but what about having lamps next to the container or the room just generally being lit , I got 11’s in there
So when you say zip lock, it’s safe to say that we put the shoes inside the bag and “fully” lock it to avoid air to prolong the life? “Airtight” as u said.. will try that method Tiffany
How many shoes can you store in a 27 gal tote ? With the box
👍🏾🍷Thanks4 sharing.
Are plastic heat wrap good idea for storing brand new kicks? Mostly Jordans. J1, J3, J4, J11 to be exact.
When you stated that you think that you would cut up some of your shoes do you mean so that you can use material or different designs off of them to make outfits or some sort of coordination throughout your selected outfit
For leathers, insert wooden shoe trees to help to retain shape.
How about those ikea shoe trees? They ok as inserts for preservation?
they are plastic. Wood is the best
What about putting the shoe box with shoes in a plastic box, as surely they will be worth more with the original box in the future?
I wrap my cardboard boxes with seran wrap if I really wanna preserve them
Hi. I live in The Philippines which is a tropical country. What is the best way to store them in a plastic container, is it with silica gel inside the zip lock bag or outside?
Would it be alright to maintain the condition of air maxes brand new in the box? if it's just for collection and not wearing them, we normally see DS boxes piling up. I have a few pairs that I wouldn't wanna wear. But afraid that after 10 years it all falls apart 😅
very informative Thank you. I just bought a pair of dead stock 2014 Air Command. And I put them in a bag.and A storage container that locks. Q? Should I put a silica packet in there with the sneakers. Any thoughts thanks
you could. it wont hurt anything and will take extra moisture out. I dont generally trust random silica packets so i would check it from time to time to make sure everything is ok.
@@TiffanyBeers
Good idea thx
What do you think is the best way to store running shoes for a very long time like over 3 years. I live in a place where it get wet outside and we have a humid problem. Thanks
I store mine in the Sterlite boxes in my one care garage. The problem is the glue has been separating and I’m having to throw shoes I haven’t worn away. I live in NC where the weather is very iffy. Besides the freezer bag method do you have any suggestions on storage for keeping them longer? Also what do you think of a dehumidifier for the garage or should it be a humidifier? PLEASE HELP ME!
Humidity is a big problem of that. They’ll grow mold or separate like your case. Keep them in a dry place like a cedar closet or something. That’s where mines at. I wipe my collection down 1 or 2 times a year with timberland leather protection. Store them with silica packs to prevent moisture. Be careful with some products or they’ll do the same damage your referring to. Hope this helps!
Can you put a link to the podcast you are doing now. I can't find it anywhere.... THANKS!

How long we can store a shoe in dox
10 to 20 years.
Hi does the 1 gallon ziplock bag fits a size 11 and a half shoe?
I love spiders 🥺 ( except tarantulas ) lol
Do you have any nike yeezy in your collection? Also did you work on the yeezy line?
Can I put the shoes in the ziplock bag (with the paper or whatever comes with the shoes to keep the shape) and zip the bag tight with no air then store it inside the container?
maybe consider the drop front boxes from the container store?
What would happen If I keep a pair of shoes stored for 2-4 months?? Would they Damage or something.? And if so how can I prevent that. Nice video btw
Nothing. They should be fine as long as they are not in extreme conditions, temp, moisture...etc.
Tiffany Beers thanks
Do you like the Budlight beer?
So I'm a jordan collector and I have a question I keep my boxes and bags like triple quadruple bag is that a good idea just so the dust can't get inside the box
What about thicker boxes like the standard Air Jordan 11 box? Also, I reailized I have a pair of the SF Air Force 1 and because of the size I think it wouldn’t fit in one of those boxes. I keep thinking of more things to add to my comment. Speaking of Air Jordan 11’s, a lot of those have a clear sole. So, it’s imporant to keep them in a plastic bag that is sem open so the soles don’t yellow.
dunno, but i do have one still because its such a sturdy box, i felt bad throwing it out.
Good day Tiffany, I used ziploc bag once to keep my Nike Ace 83 (2003 released original color white leather / navy blue swoosh) and at the time I moved to Malaysia for a few years which is a highly humid country. After 2 years I wanted to put them on and I just noticed that the outsole and ziploc are kinda absorb each other. Maybe it was the case of ziploc quality, since i'm not sure if it was the ziploc brand itself or the case of weather and high humidity. Anyhow it was kinda broke my heart. :))
that stinks... yes quality matters and taking a look from time to time to check them might be a good learning from your experience, thanks!
Are usually leave them in the bag if I buy them at the store or if I order online I leave them in the box they came in
Have u tried the drop fronts?? Much better way to store shoes.
My bad! some of my questions were answered below :)
Would you recommend shrink wrap? If we are going to keep in a bag of sealed box would you recommend using protective sprays?
i instinctively wouldn't use protective sprays. i think shrink wrap is a good idea.
I thought she was gonna say roaches but she said spiders😂😂😂
How would one store a pair of 2011 Nike MAG's?
Fo4 shoes I want to preserve for a long time , after I put them in a zip lock bag ,is it okay to then put them back in there shoe boss with the shoes inside the ziplock bag and then inside the shoe box all together?
How about those gel pads that comes with some of our packages, is it true that it is safe to store our shoes with thise gel pads to avoid moisture build up?
quick question , will they get damaged if i have em in a car thats under a car port?
I live in Phoenix and my shoes are stored outside in the heat. Is this damaging to them. They’re inside but in a storage unit that gets really hot. Please reply.
Of course that's not optimal.
Woah this different 😯
what do you think about using silica packets in the containers
As many homeless people, who walking around United States of America without shoes you would think these people would
DONATE THEIR SHOES TO CHARITY ESPECIALLY THE SALVATION ARMY!
Bug off.
What about drop fronts? Easier to stack up and build a nice wall. Besides, the practicity factor ;)
i know alot of people who use them. i dont care for the look of them but they are pretty practical.
What can u say abt those popular drop iris drop front box? Good for long term?
Which box can it fit us 11 air jordans/dunk?
So if we seal the shoe from air will odar possibly cause any effects after some time? Even if it's very minimal oders?
Hi, hope all is well. I have 3 pairs of DS Mags that I want to preserve. What would be the best way to do so since they are too big to fit in most containers. They are sizes 12 and 13. Thanks
those are tricky because they are so big. i would clean them, stuff them and vacuum seal them (gently). there isn't much you can do about the electronics, eventually that battery will stop working.
Do you recommend shrink wrapping sneakers
So having them airtight, does the “no air” effect them in any way?
i would just make sure they are dry before you seal them up. otherwise, im not sure.
Tiffany Beers the no air doesn’t effect the shoe in no way? It doesn’t dry out the rubber and crumble?
Do you not use sillica gel packs to help preserve your shoes and get rid of any moisture or odors?
I do and they work great!
does silica packs help? if so how many is recommended and how long does it last before replacement is needed
Good idea, I’m not sure but something I’ll look into. I think they absorb moisture.
I'm still in the process of watching but it's it safe to keep them in their original box? Does it keep the shoe "safe"? Long-term. Prevent aging/weathering.
wondering this too
Putting brand new shoes in a zip lock bag might be the worst advice given to anyone trying to store shoes for a long period of time!!
Should you close the bag ?
How do you feel about the dropfront clear plastic storage boxes from Container Store?
personally dont like them but its just an aesthetics thing and nothing more. if that was all i had access too, id use em.
Tiffany Beers thanks. I was thinking of converting to these for storing my collection. Tough to get rid of the original boxes, but I want my shoes to last long term.
Really? I feel like they stack much cleaner than the other container store options. Also much more convenient that having to unstack boxes to get to a pair at the bottom!
What do you mean by cut up your older shoes? Like refurbish them?
gut them to explore how they are made :).
Do you have a shoe in your collection that you are suprised that lasted the test of time.
nope, im not that old :).
Hi my name is Thomas i am from Germany so sorry for my bad english ☺️. What do u think is a normal period of time until a shoe fell in pieces .
this is a really hard question. all i can provide is my experience and from looking at Nike Archive shoes, shoes from the 80's were starting to fall apart. so that was 30+ years ago. Materials have come along way now so maybe shoe last longer now? it also depends on how they are stored. I would assume airtight will last longer but elevation and humidity will impact them also. so many variables.... just wear em and enjoy them. :).
Should the ziplock bag be completely shut? Or should it be cracked?
And if I shut a ziplock all the way is it a good idea to put one of those silicone packs inside the shoe. Like the silicone packs that you get in medicine bottles
My shoes are falling apart from the soul ,so why do people collect them
how to keep sneakers away from Spiders , lmao
💪🏽
Shoe collection ??
Silica gel bags?
I heard they will dry out the mid sole after a while when you store your shoes is that true?
