Kiki Dee was a popular English soul/pop singer who never really crossed over to the states, though she did have a solid hit over here a year or two earlier with the powerful "I've Got the Music in Me" (credited to the Kiki Dee Band). That's a great track too. I think Motown may have signed her at one time. This single with Elton (who was at the top of his game then) went to #1 in the UK and the USA in 1976.
I remember when this video was released, which was at a time when music videos were extremely rare. I never heard of Kiki Dee until I saw this video. She has an exceptional voice and it was good to see Elton John outside of a magazine article or album cover.
You've heard her before but it's been a while. My very first request when I joined Patreon was my favorite song...'I've Got The Music In Me' by Kiki Dee Band. It was blocked but I'm pretty sure it's on Patreon. Glad you liked this one too!
This is a great duet from 1976. John was supposed to sing this with Dusty Springfield but she was too ill at the time. Kiki Dee is known for her blue-eyed soul vocals & she was the first female singer from the UK to sign with Motown. She performed another duet with John in 1993 for his "Duets" album called "True Love". She had some hits in the 70's-80's such as "Amoureuse", "I've Got The Music", "Star" etc.
So Tasha, just sitting down to watch. This was such a huge hit when it came out. Not the most important song in Elton's catalogue, but in the 70's , it was just the right song for the times.
Now. do the live version of "I Got the Music in Me" for a badass rock song. She was big in Britain and never made it big in America. When Dusty Springfield was breaking out in America, Kiki Dee was breaking out in Britain. She was the first female singer to be signed by Tamla Records- which was Motown's label in England. She did pop, soul, and even folk. She does a breathtaking song called "Amoureuse" and an incredible version of Jackson Browne's "Song for Adam". She's got a wonderful voice, and she does it all!
She was kind of a protege of Elton John. She got popular in England, but never really made it in America beyond this song, and I've Got the Music in Me. Not sure why she wasn't able to make it happen, because I thought her two hits were really good.
Kiki was never as successful as she should have been, because her versatility of styles meant there was no definitive thing for audiences to get a handle on. Check out "Amoureus", where her voice was almost Karen Carpenter level.
A MUST HEAR Classic,, Kiki Dee "I've Got The Music In Me"..A really great example of Kiki's Vocals.
Great song.
💯
The greatest feel good song of all time.

"I've Got The Music In Me" to be exact.
Kiki Dee is a very underrated singer, her masterpiece is "Amoureuse", it's a must hear.
Kiki Dee was great playing Deb in Dexter. I hope at least 1 person gets that reference 😜
I would have loved to have been a fly on the wall to see how much fun these two were having 😂
I remember hearing this song so many times on the radio back in the day. It was so popular and overplayed and I loved every minute of it ❤
My HS years!! Kiki Dee is a BABE of voices!! If course, Elton transcends music over 5 decades!!

this song Always made me smile when it came on the radio!
This was his SEVENTH NUMBER ONE hit in less than four years. He wouldn't have another number one until 1986 with "That's What Friends are For".
Peak '70s here. I was singing along with the song.
OMG. Hearing this again has cheered me up, no end.

Definitely have to listen to "I've Got the Music in Me"--it was her biggest hit.
Big giant blast from my early roller skating days.
kiki Dee song - "I got the music in me " is well worth checking out
at one point in 1976 this was the biggest selling disc in the world.
Elton John was the first favorite music artist. This song was one that caught me immediately. Kiki Dee was so freaking cute and a little hot.😍😝😈
I loved this song since I was a kid❤
Hard to believe that this song is almost 49 years old
Well it certainly sounds that old.
I got the music in me by Kiki Dee band. Tasha you have to react that. A must.
Elton had had hits but this was his first no 1
Sounds so old fashioned like it’s from a different century or something. Oh wait. Would go back to 1976 in a heart beat.
Great, fun song!!!😅
Another female powerhouse,, Chi Coltane "Thunder & Lightning" ❤
