I love this song, because to me it goes beyond the traditions and heritage of pacific islanders. I am from the Philippines, but surrounded by mountains- but my love for the sea is undying. Still my favorite song in Moana. I remember when I watched this with my family and cousins for the first time, as soon as they started singing, they got all excited. It was amazing.

This is truly and honestly the BEST song in Moana-THE BEST. I get so giddy and happy and feel like I’m part of this culture and heritage. And I love when he sings “we tell the stories of our elders in a never ending chaaaiiinn” I smile so big at that. Don’t know why!! The next best song is Where You Are (Make Way).
As a proud Filipino, I am so happy everytime I hear this song. It makes my heart jump in joy. I am living just by the shores, and there is not a day that I won't be going to the sea. As it calls me everyday to greet good morning! And everytime I look at it, it makes me wonder what could be it that makes me so attracted to it. But of course, I am still finding my way to it. And somehow, I know I can.
regardless on beliefs, we can all agree, the human race was originally all about voyaging. imagine how exciting it is to be among the first to walk to every new island, or new continent, and keep voyaging just for the adventure of it. humans have since strayed from the " go forth and fill the earth" and we've stayed comfy in our multi-million people cities, and we wonder why were so at each other's throats. there is a land still left to explore, still left untouched by human travelers. don't let the statistics fool you, there is still a whole lot left to explore for us.
I can't watch moana without crying and I can't listen to this song without having goosebumps from an overwhelming pride I feel inside and I'm not even Samoan. Greatest Disney film everrr.
I LOVE THIS SONG!!!!!!! I love how it has its own language, that’s why it stands out from the song Moana sings: “How far I’ll go”. It also shows amazing history from Moana’s past. I just love how this song has its own language and History!

Aue Aue we set a course to find, a brand new island everywhere we roll Aue Aue we keep our island in our mind. And when it’s time to find home, we know the way. Aue Aue we are explores reading every sign, we tell the stories of our elders in a never ending chain Aue Aue this beautiful land The place I was looking for, we know the way
Literately this song and movie is what got me, as a language nut, to start studying Polynesian languages. They're so cool, as is the culture, honestly.
So, Im a huge disney fan and was in love with Lin's voice before getting into Hamilton. Like, I would sing this and really appreciate the lyrics and thought about how beautiful it is. Then somewhere in mid February I got into Hamilton and became obsessed with it. And now, I appreciate the song even more. Lin really is a great person.
For y'all who wanna sing the lyrics in the beginning, I found a rough pronunciation of them. (Note, may not be perfect.) Ta-toe Ta-na-to-pho-low Flah-ee-ow-ee-nah Le’-tua-tsome knee-te-lay A-ohm-my Oo-ah-pah el-lay-lu-ah toa-le-eh Ta-pin-nah-pin-nah Oh-loh oh-loh tah-kah Away Away Ku-ku-en-new-ah Te mah new lay lay A ta ta key A Away Away Tef-en-new-tim-mall-ee-A Nah co hockey lee-ah Kah-ang nah-A
All you have to know is how to pronounce the letters in Samoan. A is pronounced like AH, like Ah! I see! E is pronounced like somewhere between a long A and eh. I is pronounced like a long E O is pronounced like long O U is pronounced like OO. And G is pronounced like NG. For example, the Capital of American Samoa is Pago Pago. Pronounced Pah ngo Pah ngo. Not Paygo Paygo. To get other vowel sounds, you put two or more vowels together. Long A is "ei" Long I is "aI" And any Samoans out there, please feel free to correct any mistakes I made. I am Palagi, married to a Samoan. (an old Tongan gentleman asked me once if I could speak Samoan and I said, "enough to get my face slapped!")
As someone who is half Samoan , when I heard this I was in tears . ❤️ Thank you so much for this Disney , now I know that Disney isn't just for kids but a justice fof Heritages that were hidden .

Every time I hear this song and "How Far I'll Go", it makes me want to hop onto one of those Polynesian boats, wear a lavalava, and go sailing on the ocean with others, looking for adventure and seeing new sights in the South Pacific.

The similarity between how "aue" and "away" sound is a happy coincidence, though, that I'm sure didn't pass by either of the song's writers. :)
SAAMEE
Aue aue is like an excitement word for islanders.

All I can focus on when I hear this is Alexander Hamiltons voice singing. Does anyone else hear it?
Riouse Flame I hear Lin Manuel miranda (he played Alexander hamilton) so yeah
Close your eyes and think Hamilton thoughts. You’re bound to see Alexander Hamilton singing this song
When I heard Lin’s voice I gasped, inhaled slowly and deeply, then said to my older sister, “ Lin Manuel Miranda”. She replied “ You nerd”.
I screamed when I heard Lin sing the first time. It was while I saw Moana in theatres. That was not fun. I can't not freak out every time I hear/see him unexpectedly.
Omg, your profile pic fits so well with this video.
you pfp fits
Anyone else think Lin has an incredible voice? Not only is he a great songwriter, he's also a great singer
Still my favorite song in Moana. I remember when I watched this with my family and cousins for the first time, as soon as they started singing, they got all excited. It was amazing.
As someone with exactly 0 pacific islander blood or Polynesian heritage, this song makes me proud to be of a culture of seafarers like the Polynesians. Much respect and fantastic song.
This is one of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard
Before knowing about Hamilton: this is a dope song!
After knowing about Hamilton: 0-o
Can't explain why i'm loving this song. This song gives me something indescribable, something organic, something raw and pure. Whispering to me that "go back your roots" to your mother nature. Learn to find your way back... FIND WHO YOU REALLY ARE.
Me: cool song.
Mom: you know Lin sings in this?
Me: I LOVE THIS SONG

This song makes me happy because of Lin
i smell lin manuel miranda
I smell the smelly smell of
Lin
Smells like new money, dresses like fake royalty
Desperate to rise above his station
Everything he does betrays the ideals of our nation
Hey, And if ya don’t know, now you know Mr President
He smells of cinnamon scrolls with iceing sugar
Mmmmm
He didnt write or sing this song! Opetaia Foai did
Angelline Little he sings the song
Tongan here, although half of the song was sung in Samoan and Tokelauan, I still enjoyed it at the fullest. Really made me proud to be a Polynesian.
Lin: we tell the stories of-
Me: TONIGHT
that voice is really familiar
LIN
I remember watching Moana in class and I didn't even realize that Lin was singing till I listened closely, I started yelling and fangirling so much that my classmates were like "Are you ok?" and I'm just smiling really awkwardly and saying "No I'm not" xD I'm the only Hamilton trash in my class
HeyoAlexHere me too in every class except band

When I heard that Lin's voice I pulled a king gorge
"I KnOW HiM"
Literally the same thing that happened to me at home. I started freking so bad i fell off the couch and just started giggling and jumping around like a total idiot. And don't even get me started on the Magic School Bus rides again theme song. XD I did a whole Spanish project on him, he is pretty much my IDOL

Im not a pacifier island but I'm an islander. I love this song, not only the meaning but the quality. That split harmony is SOOO crisp even when the choir fades into the background, you can still hear ever groups vocals separately yet together. It's beautiful
I'm Micronesia and I love this song I don't understand it tho but that doesn't matter..one love
Who here internally fan screamed when they heard Lin? XD
Meaning of those words we don't know.
We are voyagers called to the sea
Called by the great god of the sea
Who puts up a challenge, We take on that good challenge
So prepare
Oh! Oh!
Move forward
The birds will lead us there
Oh! Oh!
This beautiful land, this peace
We will make our home here
Everyone's like 'I loVE THIS SONG'
Then there's me:
OH MY GOD IT'S MY CHILD LIN-MANUEL MIRANDA HE'S SINGING FOR DISNEY AHHHH MY SMALL BABY IS GROWING UP SO FAST DGKAIKDJGHLADJADSBFLAS
Your dp🤦I thought that's a scratch on my screen
I remember listening to this song in the car and crying from how beautiful it is.
The absolute majesty of this scene from the movie, the wideout shots of the crew of the ship with the chief standing proudly at the bow, and all eyes pointed looking FORWARD to the horizon, and then the zoom out to show the entire freakin FLEET im motion, the music, fills me with awe every time.
Who broke there replay button XD?

Wow what a beautiful tribute to the Austronesian expansion. As someone with Malagasy ancestry, this brings a tear to my eye
And somehow, I know I can.
regardless on beliefs, we can all agree, the human race was originally all about voyaging. imagine how exciting it is to be among the first to walk to every new island, or new continent, and keep voyaging just for the adventure of it. humans have since strayed from the " go forth and fill the earth" and we've stayed comfy in our multi-million people cities, and we wonder why were so at each other's throats. there is a land still left to explore, still left untouched by human travelers. don't let the statistics fool you, there is still a whole lot left to explore for us.
dude when I heard Lin's voice when I watched the movie I freaked
I can't watch moana without crying and I can't listen to this song without having goosebumps from an overwhelming pride I feel inside and I'm not even Samoan. Greatest Disney film everrr.
I LOVE THIS SONG!!!!!!! I love how it has its own language, that’s why it stands out from the song Moana sings: “How far I’ll go”. It also shows amazing history from Moana’s past. I just love how this song has its own language and History!

Translated lyrics full English
We are voyagers summoned by the mighty gods
Of this mighty ocean to come
We take up the good challenge
Get ready
Let’s go sailing
Aue Aue there is land up ahead
A bird in flight to take us there
Aue Aue this beautiful land
The place I was looking for, we will make our home
We read the wind and the sky when the sun is high
We sail the length of the sea on the ocean breeze
At night we name every star we know where we are
We know who we are, who we are.
Aue Aue we set a course to find, a brand new island everywhere we roll
Aue Aue we keep our island in our mind. And when it’s time to find home, we know the way.
Aue Aue we are explores reading every sign,
we tell the stories of our elders in a never ending chain
Aue Aue this beautiful land
The place I was looking for, we know the way

Literately this song and movie is what got me, as a language nut, to start studying Polynesian languages. They're so cool, as is the culture, honestly.
So, Im a huge disney fan and was in love with Lin's voice before getting into Hamilton. Like, I would sing this and really appreciate the lyrics and thought about how beautiful it is. Then somewhere in mid February I got into Hamilton and became obsessed with it. And now, I appreciate the song even more. Lin really is a great person.
For y'all who wanna sing the lyrics in the beginning, I found a rough pronunciation of them. (Note, may not be perfect.)

Thank you! I have listened to this song sbout 30 times today, and I want to sing it as best I can without butcherying it. This helps a lot.
@@jdouat7536 it's the pronunciation
duh
All you have to know is how to pronounce the letters in Samoan.
A is pronounced like AH, like Ah! I see!
E is pronounced like somewhere between a long A and eh.
I is pronounced like a long E
O is pronounced like long O
U is pronounced like OO.
And G is pronounced like NG.
For example, the Capital of American Samoa is Pago Pago. Pronounced Pah ngo Pah ngo. Not Paygo Paygo.
To get other vowel sounds, you put two or more vowels together.
Long A is "ei"
Long I is "aI"
And any Samoans out there, please feel free to correct any mistakes I made.
I knew LMM was in this song so when we watched Moana in art class today "standardized testing day, it was pretty laid back otherwise) I was WICKED HYPED
lin-manuel did amazing ahhh he has an amazing voice
Send chills down my spine. I love this song.
I'm not addicted. I can stop replaying anytime I want.
I'm just gonna clarify bc I think everyone thinks the song is just 2 languages but it's 3. It's samoan first then tokelauan and English. I'm proud to see and hear both my cultures in movies!
All I hear is Hamilton now and I’m so sad because I love this movie. Hamilton is taking over everything and I don’t know how I feel about that.
This song always gives me the chills, can't help but tear up when it plays
I have listened to this song about 200 times, and it never gets old. I am not ever remotely close to being an Islander, but this song speaks to me on a level i dont even understand.
I love Polynesian culture
Every time I hear this song and "How Far I'll Go", it makes me want to hop onto one of those Polynesian boats, wear a lavalava, and go sailing on the ocean with others, looking for adventure and seeing new sights in the South Pacific.
