You're right about the slight tactile feel. That's caused by POM-on-POM friction, and it can be reduced if you hand-lube them as it acts like a slight barrier between the raw plastic contact. Pom friction is pretty soft instead of gritty/scratchy, so it's why pom switches are often called "self-lubricating". Gateron smoothies, another full-pom switch have better stock lube and different tolerances so you don't get that tactility at the top, but you can still feel some friction/resistance in the travel, smooth, but friction nonetheless.
Oh, I so appreciate your comments, I always learn something new! :) Thank you for that!
(I also found your comment on the GMK-Y semi-transparent keycap sets, and that was one of the best comments I've read so far on Reddit!)
The strange thing is I also feel this tactility with the Graywood V3 (nylon bottom and pc top), do you think the POM stem on its own is enough to bring forth this phenomenon?
Would like a comparison of some LEOBOG switches, including the Icesoul tactile, please and thank you.
I'll check on the options!
I just remembered a good speed linear switch, the CIY Naraka. Made by BSUN like the rest of the CIY Primaris switches, it has 1.2mm activation, short 3.3mm travel, good factory lubrication and minimal wobble, and sounds nice and deep. It's very cheap on Ali, $20-something for a pack of 110. A perfect switch for gamers...
If 1.2mm activation point is too high, there's CIY Red Lotus which is basically the same but with 1.7mm activation...I'll probably get those.
Wow, I have a pack of Narakas sitting on my floor - waiting for being reviewed... :') But when I bought I haven't even checked on the actuation distance - so that's super good news, thank you! ^^
@@thoccnology Cool, can't wait for the review! I can't find info on the bottom out weight for any of those CIY switches though, it's annoying. I'll probably get the Red Lotus because Naraka's 1.2mm is too high and sensitive for me and Sakura appears to be lighter than those two. I already odered the tactile Asura...
@@thoccnology Another very likely nice (because made by HMX) speed linear switch to try out: Chosfox Hanami Dango Pink V2.
I just got the hi75 with these switches and I find them really satisfying and nice sounding but their softness is definitely something to get used to. I had a feeling I'm not gonna like their speediness that much so I ordered the V1s based on that ASMR video of yours, but I'm still waiting for those. Do you think the difference is gonna be really big?
I agree, speed switches are not for everyone - the Nimbus is borderline usable for me luckily, but switches even closer to 1mm is too sensitive to me, as I like to rest my hands on the top of the keycaps while not typing haha.
Hm, with the V1s I'd say yes, it's gonna be a noticeable difference (the V1s are wonderfully deep-sounding! But that's absolutely personal preference :))
I have installed my V1s and I'm super happy with them, they sound and feel amazing. And I had a similar issue with resting my thumb on the space bar and accidentally pressing it with the nimbus. The only downside of the vertex switch is that it completely blocks off RGB, but I'm willing to live with that, especially that the keycaps are not shine-through anyway
@@Gutek313 Oh, yeah, they have only a miniscule RGB slot (basically 2 small holes lmao). I had to check on them while writing this, as I've also rarely use RGB anyway. ^^
I think Nimbus has a deeper sound than graywood 🤔
Yes, POM material is softer, so it tends to be deeper sounding
I've became a big fan of epomaker products after purchasing their Cidoo V65 V2 with Matte Quark Switches making it my first "actual" mechanical keyboard after using Corsair and Ducky boards before. For my office keyboard I decided to buy the Leobog Hi75 with Nimbus V3 Switches. Been using it for around 2 weeks now and I gotta say it sounded so good out of the box that I didn't even bother to mod it or relube stabs. One thing I was unaware about is how fast and sensitive these switches feel, for gaming I think it's nice but I realized that I often make alot more typos from accidentally hitting keys for work. It's definitely going to take a while for me to get used too, since I still use Matte Quark switches at home which are significantly heavier.
I can only agree, I face the same problem with 'speed' switches like this. I like to rest my hands on the keycaps while thinking and sometimes just by the weight of my hands I accidentally press the keys. :')
Are these even more linear than red switches?
Linear only defines that there's no tactile bump on the switch stem. So Red and this is exactly the same - the only difference is that this registers the keypress sooner (press distance is 1.3mm vs. 2.0mm)
what da dog doin?
This or vertex!
For me it's the Vertex!
