"Fake new position": Poilievre mocks decision to appoint special rapporteur on election interference

- Conservative Party of Canada Leader Pierre Poilievre mocked Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s appointment of a special rapporteur during question period in the House of Commons on Tuesday, calling it a “fake new position” that Trudeau has created.
He accused Trudeau, who was not in the House of Commons on Tuesday due to the arrival of European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen in Canada, of “hiding from Canadians.”
New Democrat Party (NDP) Leader Jagmeet Singh also took aim at the Liberals over foreign interference in Canadian election. Singh demanded that Trudeau launch a public inquiry and accused him of “playing political games.”
In response, Public Safety Minister Marco Mendicino reiterated Trudeau’s statement from Monday that the Liberal government would abide by the recommendations of a special rapporteur.

The Conservative Party of Canada is in the lead in the latest Nanos ballot tracking, with the Liberals in second place after a 5 per cent drop over the past four weeks.
The Conservatives are three points above the governing Liberals, with the third place NDP gaining with a six-point rise over the same time period.
Nik Nanos, chief data scientist and founder of Nanos Research, said Justin Trudeau’s Liberal Party is getting “squeezed” by what looks like “disaffected, disappointed, disgruntled” Liberals who are parking their support right now with the New Democrats!

It is an upside down world when I freaking agree with the Bloc member, when he says "its about public confidence in our elections" national security can be protected in a public inquiry, but Canadians need and deserve to know how, a communist dictatorship interfered in our system, and Canadians need to know our that our security agencies can and have the tools to deal with this. THATS PUBLIC CONFIDENCE.
In order for us to have _"public confidence in our elections"_ we need to have public confidence in the ability of an educated electorate to separate the wheat from the chaff of electioneering debate/discourse.
Sadly when more than a 1/3rd of the electorate has an IQ in mid double-digit range (or lower), gullible susceptibly to charlatans and shysters is more than a fleeting concern, and thus _"public confidence in our elections"_ is seemingly an unattainable fantasy.
There is noting wrong with our federal election process - the actual voting process and tallying of the vote.
What is being manipulated is the discourse in the runup to the election. Elections Canada can no longer simply monitor English/French political debate/discourse (advertisements), it must be given the resources to monitor the media of large linguistic minority communities (Chinese-Canadian; Indo-Canadian; etc.) to make sure political debate in those communities adheres to the Canada Elections Act. That means hiring individuals within the agency, capable of monitoring the nuanced discourse within those linguistically diverse communities.
Parties must also perform greater due diligence in their candidate selection processes of naturalised citizens to ensure no candidate has divided loyalties to Canada or their country of birth.
