100% agree with you. We have lots of guests who visited us complain that our cats are too skinny while they are actually in the perfect body shapes (both less than 10lb). Obesity is such a horrible cycle to break. If they are over-weight, the weight puts more pressure on their joints so they prefer not to move much and hence become heavier. Vs if they are lighter, they are more active and it's very easy to maintain a health body shape. We are very lucky that our vet is super strict about our kitties' weight. She would prefer us to keep them on the lower bound of ideal weight so that they can keep being active while they are still young. And we prolly accidentally follow the 3 meal pattern =). Thx for the explanation!! My two kitties would eat two formal meals a day (raw) with 1 extra treat/hydration session in between, when we would either offer them treats through training/snuffle mat or offer steamed oysters/mussels/salmon (basically fresh supplements that we didn't add to their formal meal).
Exactly! I feed Cleo 3 meals just like you said. She sleeps during the day anyway, so she doesn't need food until she wakes up late in the afternoon/early evening and becomes active again. She only gets high-quality kibbles when she's learning some tricks. She can do sit, high 5, shake hands, stand, jump, spin, kiss, and ring the bell😊 She learns fast though.
Currently trying to get my husbands 9 year old cat switched over to a raw diet. She’s actually been doing pretty well so far. We’re taking tiny steps every week. She’s losing weight and has become so much more active this past month!
I have a automatic feeder set to go off mid day while I'm away (3 meals total) and that's the only kibble meal my cat gets. It's hard to get away from kibble if you're feeding more often and have to user a timed feeder!
When I first got Theo he was about 2 months old and feral. I fed him kibble from day one till he was about 6 months old. I switched to making his food and tried to take away the kibble but he went berserk. He was yowling his head off and, going crazy for it, I honestly believe he was addicted to it. It's not an overstatement to say that he was losing his mind. He would eat it so fast, he was basically swallowing it whole. He now gets one meal at 10:00 in the morning and another at 6:00 p.m., in his last meal is at midnight. We're night owls, that's just how we roll. I measure out 8 oz of food a day, when that's gone, it's over. When I make it, I put 8 oz in each container and freeze it. He gets one of those a day. It works for us. I will say before each meal I give him about five small pieces of kibble as an appetizer but not the cups of kibble he was scarfing down like a starved man everyday and begging for more. Poor Theo, I just didn't know. He is long and lean now, he looks like a teenager all arms and legs. All better now. Please don't feed your cat packaged food, it's nothing but garbage. Oh... the bonus is, it's so cheap to make it home. It cost me $4 for the meat, to make 18 days of food. It was costing me $13 for 4 days of Fancy feast. It's a no-brainer. My cat came to me at about a year old, and was addicted to kibble as well ("My name is Milo, and I'm a kibbleholic...") He would light into it like crack! I eventually weaned him off by mixing the kibble with some freeze-dried raw food ("Quest") and premium canned food. If you're feeding your cat raw, you probably know that they need more than just cuts of meat. They need organ meats, ground bone, and certain other micronutrients for optimum health. Some packaged food is better than feeding cuts of raw meat. It's not all "garbage".
I have noticed this pattern in my cats… I’ll feed them sometimes 3 or 2 times a day, but particularly in the morning they’ll eat half their meal and come back to it a little bit later 😂
I used to free feed and my sweet boy had portion control embedded in his genes or something. He always had a great weight of 9 lbs. but after his dental surgery I switched to wet food and now do four meals a day. I use an automatic wet food feeder to achieve four to five times meals a day. So this is cool to see and so informative.
Nice video. I feed our cat about 4 to 6 times a day. After he comes in in the morning between 4 and 7 am he gets some dry food soaked in hot water from our hot water dispenser and chilled for a couple minutes in the fridge to get it to a nice just warm temperature. After that he takes his nap after some grooming and comes for more food at around 9 am. Same food again. Then another few times during the day, always with some water. He can hear me coming in and follows me to get more. Sometimes I add a piled tablespoon of wet food to it or just give wet food. He also has a bigger bowl filled with dry food he can munch on if I'm not coming in. He is about 1-1/2 to 2 years old and weighs 10 lbs. He doesn't overeat, sometimes even leaves some and comes back later. I only cover the bottom of his 4 inch bowls and add the water. This way I know he gets his liquid and the warm food smells delicious. And this way he doesn't drink out of the toilet which the grandkids sometimes forget to flush 😮. But he also has a water bowl with fresh water every day.
My cats get fed 5 times a day. My senior with ckd will throw up if she doesn't eat for more than a few hours. I kind of free feed with raw, my little one will just jump up on her feeding place if she's hungry 😂 and het weight is perfect!
Nice to find out that how i already feed my cats is the best way😊, i portion there food and then whenever they get hungry they wait by there bowl so i know i need to give them some of there food😊
We put Max down today, he only weighed 6 pounds, he was 16 years old, he had free rein all his life, treats piled on a plate, was fed three or four times a day ,, only ate a couple bites out of each. I guess a very spoiled cat, but not spoiled, but just treated like royalty, But we had to put him down today. ,, of course we cried ,,,,He was about 12 pounds to 15 pounds ,,,,, just sharing, I have two cats, just trying to figure out how to feed them, one’s always begging, the other really doesn’t care just looking for feedback from the cat people, I love cats.
Sorry for your loss. What I've learnt with cats is there is no one size fits all solution. If your cat is behaving a certain way with food, it probably knows what it's doing
Always hard to say goodbye to them, isn't it? - it breaks my heart too. Sounds like you gave Max a wonderful life. Good for you. As for feeding, I've come to understand 3-4 very small meals per 24 hrs, since their stomachs are so small. Perhaps consider your own schedule and a good way to meet the two individual needs of your precious cats. All the best. 😻
My Russian blue is 11lbs and 13 years old , he get's 1/4 cup of I-ams dry food to graze on during the day and night that's 120 calories from the dry food, and he gets 1/2 can wet at 8am, then 1/2 can at 4pm of 5.5 so he gets a total 5.5 can of wet a day which is 134 calories total calories per day which dry and wet together is 254 calories in all. A 10 lbs cats needs 250 calories per day, he's not fat, nor skinny but he is 11 pounds heavy which I think is right for a Russian blue. I think if your cat is a smaller cat build they may eat less, or younger they may need more depending on how active, mine is 11 so he's not so active.
I have automatic feeder that goes off 5x a day (1/4 cup of dry food split up 5x) in addition to giving 1 can of wet food and 10-15 treats. She often leaves some dry food leftover. Last year, I tried only having the automatic feeder go off 2-3x a day instead of 5x a day, but my cat ate MORE when I did that (didn't leave any dry food and seemed hungrier!) Not sure if it was bc she was used to having 5 small meals a day or whether like humans, sometimes we get so hungry that it takes more time to notice we're full, or just her preference!
Sooo true about the feeding times. When I started giving my cat Darwin’s raw cat food, I was doing it 2x a day and it would make her sick, so I made the meals smaller and did 4x and that was perfect for awhile. But then it was too hard to keep up with so I’ve kept it at 3x and she’s been wonderful ever since. Although, I do have some concerns I’m not doing enough. I used to get her chicken hearts and bone in meat but she stopped being interested after a year. Still loves her raw and her freeze dried pure one chicken treats. But I feel like since she’s just getting chicken I’m worried she isn’t getting all the nutrients needed. I used to feed a mix of turkey and chicken from Darwin’s but it seems like every time she would have turkey she would have a bad reaction. And now I’m worried she doesn’t eat enough crunchy things to give her teeth a good workout. Any suggestions would be so appreciated. All vets and other pet dermatologist, and nutritionist just tell me to get her on commercial food. I just can’t do it! She’s maintained 8-8.5 lbs for three years and is so healthy.
i totally feel u! i love cooperating freeze dried usually crushed up (i have two kittens) like from amazon theres rabbit bites, mini freeze dried fish, freeze dried meat for extra protein and even dental chew treats that help their teeth a lot into their meals for crunch :)
Advice needed. I am a nerd. Miss paws of prey or other knowledgeable cat nutritionists, I am a beginner please feel free to criticize or flame me. I need to learn. My two cats are 1 year old and weigh 3.8 and 4.3 kg and they eat as follows 170g each per day (2 meals each, each day, 85g each per meal). The only food they eat is made in a 10 kg batch then frozen, 340g in each plastic container. One taken out of the freezer per day. This lasts for one month and takes about 3 hours in total to buy chop and weigh out. This is easier to buy and mix as it seems as 5% is 500g. 20% pork steak as lean as possible 20% chicken breast 10% beef steak cheap cut 15% heart 10% tongue/lung/gizzard/spleen 5% liver 5% kidney/brain/intestine 10% turkey neck/chicken neck/ rabbit ribs 5% sardines/mackerel/muscals Then add Chia seed chopped spinach mixed ground berries kelp powder vitamin E drops omega 3 fish oil from capsules 12 raw eggs (white and yolk) It is cheaper than prepared cat food and they seem to be in good health. Is this missing anything? Anything I should leave out? Will this possibly lead to health problems down the line? Thank you in advance.
I free feed my cat dried food and she weighs the same today as she did when I got her in 2014. She is 13 and healthy. I give her wet food one or two times a day of which she only licks up the gravy or sauce in it. She was 3 when I adopted her.
It's better to feed your cat 3/4 times small in portion,, but pet owners who solely feed homemade food it's quite tough in day-to-day chaotic life. Having only two kitties,, generally prepared their food everyday fresh. Usually chicken/duck meat with pumpkin & carrots or fish with carrots, potatoes & banana. True to word,, it's too much hassle for feeding them twice let alone three times a day.
I am so grateful for your videos I have two kittens, 12 and 6 years old. I want to change their diet, but in case we have a limited number of types of meat, what to do? For example where I live I get all the chicken, organs, bones, beef, fish and lamb But rabbit, duck and so on would be very complicated for me... So what would I have to do? Thank you very much for answering 💕 P.S: My English is not the best 😅
Kind of have an issue with this study. This is for cats expending a lot more energy in the wild trying to hunt their prey. Burning mire calories and often not knowing when ir if they will get a next meal. I don't think it directly correlates to a pampered house cat. For me, 2 meals a day. Healthy raw meals seems to be the way to go. At least in my opinion and my cats opinion. Although he'd tell you he's always starving and I don't feed him enough ;)
I'm feeding my cats the same 3 meals as you mentioned and they get a small portion of kibbles as mid-day snack from an auto-feeder. There are various information about the negative effects of letting cats go without food for more than 8-10hrs. Not sure how true it is but just to be safe, I switched from feeding just 2 meals a day to 3 and also invested in an auto-feeder.
Dry food is good for cleaning their teeth. In the wild, they rely on bones and such for that. Most people don't feed bones and other abrasive stuff to their cats with wet food or raw food, so dry food is a good alternative for that.
Your videos are awesome! could you please review Solutions Pet Products?:) I adopted a dog with bad skin issues and yeast. I put him on products from Solutions (main diet), Green Juju, Adored Beast Apothecary, Raw Feeding Miami, and local butchers. After extensive research I identified these as the best possible commercial products. Susan Thixton's list shows that there are a lot of good options out there, however I was looking for the best chance at bringing him back to full health. There's not a ton of info or opinions on these brands out there, especially from someone trustworthy like you
I feed my pets what I eat. Chips and non-diet soda…Oreos and ice cream. There’s nothing wrong with free feeding. Use a smaller bowl. Smaller portions. And believe me, your cat will let you know when the bowl is empty. Or half empty. Is it just happenstance that fat cats live in households with fat people and fat kids? I have NEVER had overweight pets. Except a rabbit I named “Lizzo”. Then I gave her a bath. Turned out, it was all fur.
6:00 Three meals per day is ok. But morning - evening - night is wrong! More like morning (8h00) - noon (12h00/13h00) - evening (20h00) instead! After dark cats go to sleep, no need to over-feed them at the end of the day. On the other hand, at solar noon gastric juices are stronger, so it's the best time of the day to have the more abundant meal (breakfast and dinner should be lighter).
you also have look at their bigger relatives the Lions Tiger, Leopard, Cheetahs, Jaguars etc, they give perfect examples of what cats should eat, since cats are apex predators, the felines fill up the top of the food chain on land. Lions and Tigers are at the top of the food chain in their terrains.
Would raw diet replace water? Can you meal prep for a month or more like(3m)? Can you make a video useing the formulator this dose it suggests things or how does it work
My cat's are spoiled 🤣 they get fed about 5-6 times a day (luckily a job with a hugh remote part makes that possible), each time each cat gets a half if a 100gr wet food can...and STILL they often don't eat everythinf in one sitting but rather split even that small amount... Nibble on it, leave the rest to come back to it an hour later ir so
My two boys is already eating 4-5 times a day 😂 One is on full raw, the other is on full canned. They simply can’t finish half their daily requirement in two meals, and I can’t just leave out raw for hours. So now I just feed them 4-5 times a day
This was so informative i will try this. I would like to ask because i feel like my goodness what of i am possibly over feeding my cat. He is 8 months and i feed 3 oz in the morning before work and 3 oz after is that too much ? You mentioned 4oz being split into 3 portions if so i will change this up immediately
Be careful that dry food and wet food are measured differently. Wet food contains more water so they need more of that for the same amount of calories.
I will have to try this. I feed my cats raw twice a day, but I can divided into three meals most of the time. Depending on my schedule, but I could make it happen.
Welll, I guess I'm in the good, then. I feed my cats each bout 1 1/2 tbl. Of can food once in the morning & one bout dinner time. Then bout 1/2 of that as a late night treat.
I have a diabetic cat that Im learnimg to feed. It is hard to keep him away from kibble that the other two cats eat. One of the other cats will NOT eat anything but kibble.
I have a question here. If cats are hunting 7+ preys every day, and eating 5 of them, why are raw feeders trying to mimic just 1 prey animal to raw feed cats per day? Isn't it supposed to be the equivalent of 5 prey animals daily?
I hear you. But what about CATS NOT NEUTERED . I’ve got a female tortoiseshell . Apparently there all female but only 10% have menses. My cat twice a year Goes Twinking bum in your face for weeks. But has never had Kittens in 8 yrs ????? I’m trying the Feed one scoop 2x daily 12 hrs apart .. and it’s like I’ve got a furry Heroin addict Pawing scratching yowling . I’m like Sleeping with a Box over my head. I hear you. How sad am I. A cat rules my life. But truth is. I could be cruel lock her out etc etc eventually she learns no food except at certain times. ( wobbly screen sponge bob moments) she never gives up. Like a druggie. Anyways I’m sticking with the CAT detox from FOOOOOOOOOD FOOOOOD FOOOOD . But Jeeze I’d like to get 8hrs continuous sleep having a dodgy prostate is cruel enough. 😻😄😂😹
Stop feeding your animals pet food. Stop feeding them pet treats. The food is full of chemicals and pesticides. I cook for my animals. My dog had seizures till I stopped all animal products.
So basically the same as most human food lol Ever look into 90% of human grade ingredients? How about processed food? Truth is, unless you just have tons of $$$, there’s a certain amount of “poison” in everything you, your children, and your pets eat. I have a garden. An actual produce garden that’s over an acre. My dad helps me with it and has taught me for years to be as self sufficient as possible. We also hunt for deer and pay a local rancher to raise a cow for meat. My grandmother used to raise and kill/clean/eat her own chicken… Do you have any idea how many hormones, antibacterial agents, chemicals etc, are in just store bought raw chicken? Lol Hell, most of the chicken meal and byproducts in pet food come from the same birds they serve us.. it’s just the parts that we don’t eat such as the feet, heads, beak, bones, lol Sry about the tldr rant. Just wanted to share that I have a dog with severe obesity and one that isn’t. Same age and breed, but different bloodlines. I tried everything for the heavier dog. The best dry food and putting brown rice and green beans with it. Nothing worked. I started making our own food with help from our vet and she actually got worse. Come to find out she was allergic to chicken and that’s super common in dogs. It has to do with the processing of bother alive and dead chicken product both in dog food and in human food. So people should be aware that making your own food isn’t just that simple. They need to be educated on human food as well. During that time u learned there’s a difference between “natural” and “organic” labels. Car food in particular will tell you everything you need to know in the front packaging label. There’s laws and regulations to what they can call food based on the % of real ingredients… So just be aware that it’s not always as simple as finding a Pinterest pet food recipe thinking it’s healthier. ALSO we still feed her dry food a few times a week. We live in hurricane ridden Louisiana and often have had to leave her and all our animals in a hurricane safe shelter. There we have automatic feeders until we can get back to them. Once it took me almost 2 weeks to get back. I learned the hard way that if your pet is only used to the best of the best food, they will become accustomed to that and will nearly starve themselves to death. I found this to be much more an issue with our cats who had to switch to dry food during an emergency. So that’s always something to keep in mind too depending on your lifestyle. We only feed our cats wet food once a day. This way they are still accustomed to having to eat dry food when it’s offered. So just something to take into consideration.
@@butwhytho4858 I don't give my cat food with by-products in it. I give her more expensive food and it has a lot of vitamins and minerals. She's 6 months old so she needs certain things for healthy growth.
Dry food or something abrasive like that is absolutely necessary for their "brushing their teeth". In the wild, they get this from bones and such. Wet food has none of that.
Unless you're feeding your cat bones and such that they get naturally, dry food is absolutely necessary to keep their teeth healthy. Unless you're giving them bones, Abrasive stuff like dry food Is the only way for them to brush their teeth.
Let's be honest. Cats should never eat grains, rice, or corn, which are prominent in store bought cat food. GMO crops are carcinogenic. Kibble is bad for cats. Feed your cats some of your meat. Give them organ meats.
You can't truthfully make such statements. The quality of canned food varies A LOT from brand to brand, as does about everything else. If you want to feed them "real" food, you need to learn what proportions of raw meat, organs, animal by-products, ground bone, taurine, and other nutrients to combine, in the right proportions. OR... you can buy a high-quality frozen or freeze-dried raw food which supplies all of those ingredients. As an alternative, you could go out every day hunting for mice, birds, lizards, etc., and give them to your cat. If you do the latter, I would say you definitely "lover" your pet!

Yes, that’s totally cool and everything but what happens when you have more than two cats… this person, free feed because this person have too much cats to give them separate meals, and that same person, they have a crazy life (totally just curious 🥸)
Finally! A cat video ❤

My two cats are 1 year old and weigh 3.8 and 4.3 kg and they eat as follows
170g each per day (2 meals each, each day, 85g each per meal).
The only food they eat is made in a 10 kg batch then frozen, 340g in each plastic container. One taken out of the freezer per day.
This lasts for one month and takes about 3 hours in total to buy chop and weigh out.
This is easier to buy and mix as it seems as 5% is 500g.
20% pork steak as lean as possible
20% chicken breast
10% beef steak cheap cut
15% heart
10% tongue/lung/gizzard/spleen
5% liver
5% kidney/brain/intestine
10% turkey neck/chicken neck/ rabbit ribs
5% sardines/mackerel/muscals
Then add
Chia seed
chopped spinach
mixed ground berries
kelp powder
vitamin E drops
omega 3 fish oil from capsules
12 raw eggs (white and yolk)
It is cheaper than prepared cat food and they seem to be in good health.
Thank you very much for answering 💕
P.S: My English is not the best 😅
That isn't true at all. Cats hunt at dawn and dusk in the wild. Noon is unnecessary.
I learned about Whisker Stress the other day. Put cat food on a saucer not in a bowl.
you also have look at their bigger relatives the Lions Tiger, Leopard, Cheetahs, Jaguars etc, they give perfect examples of what cats should eat, since cats are apex predators, the felines fill up the top of the food chain on land. Lions and Tigers are at the top of the food chain in their terrains.
i feed Margo 3-4 times a day mixed raw and good quality canned wet food
Would raw diet replace water?
Can you meal prep for a month or more like(3m)?
Can you make a video useing the formulator this dose it suggests things or how does it work
Replace water? Like they wouldn't have to drink water anymore? What do you mean
@@Ruby-yn5fp I mean the does moisture from raw diet enough. my cat does not drink water I have to mix it in the food
My cat's are spoiled 🤣 they get fed about 5-6 times a day (luckily a job with a hugh remote part makes that possible), each time each cat gets a half if a 100gr wet food can...and STILL they often don't eat everythinf in one sitting but rather split even that small amount... Nibble on it, leave the rest to come back to it an hour later ir so
My two boys is already eating 4-5 times a day 😂
One is on full raw, the other is on full canned.
In your opinion, how many ounces of wet food per day for a 3-4 kg weight cat?
thank youso much… this is helpful
Hey can you suggest me some healthy abd nutrious dry cat food food for kittens and adult cats ( BTW I live in Pakistan) could you suggest me please🙏
What about can food for cat, with steam fish or vegetables, is it alright?
FYI: Stella & Chewy's dry cat food does not contain palatants.
my cat gets 3 main meals (portioned) a day and little snacks in between, all within required daily calorie intake.
My dog and cat get fed twice a day, and because of this I am never allowed to sleep in past 6:00am lol.
Mine will let me sleep in, but the minute the alarm goes off, they want their food in the bowl. Instantly :-)
I will have to try this. I feed my cats raw twice a day, but I can divided into three meals most of the time. Depending on my schedule, but I could make it happen.
My lThai cat-shaped little guy was okay with his morning and evening meals.
I miss feeding my friendly beast!
So why is it better to feed more meals with cats but one a day for dogs?
They're different species with different needs!
Are cats and dogs the same animals for you? xd
You're the best ❤❤❤
Are available to formulate a recipe for my kitten?
I only have one fat cat 😂 the other two that are 8 lbs less only get 3/4 by the pound , fat one one cup. (I give her 1/4 4 x a day).
Ragdolls and some other cat breeds cannot live outside. Their instincts tell them to hunt, catch, kill, and eat but they can't catch their prey. 7:20
just buy a machine. like a coffee timer. so you can feed your cat 5 times a day by little food.
Stop feeding your animals pet food. Stop feeding them pet treats. The food is full of chemicals and pesticides. I cook for my animals. My dog had seizures till I stopped all animal products.
Do you cook them or give them raw?
There are treats that are organic freeze dried whole salmon for example that are perfectly fine. It is illegal to use hormones with fish in the USA
KPROKUHANA PILETINA BEZ KOŽE ,PURETINA ,RIBA
Lol Hell, most of the chicken meal and byproducts in pet food come from the same birds they serve us.. it’s just the parts that we don’t eat such as the feet, heads, beak, bones, lol
Sry about the tldr rant. There’s laws and regulations to what they can call food based on the % of real ingredients…
So just be aware that it’s not always as simple as finding a Pinterest pet food recipe thinking it’s healthier.
She's 6 months old so she needs certain things for healthy growth.
my cat eats 3 meals of wet food (breakfast, lunch, and dinner) and a small portion of dry food at night to fill in calories
Dry food or something abrasive like that is absolutely necessary for their "brushing their teeth".
In the wild, they get this from bones and such. Wet food has none of that.
I feed my 6 month old kitten 5 meals a day
I Dont feed dry food Anymore !!
0:05 BRO WHY THE HELL ARE WE STILL GIVING OUR CATS THIS POISON (dry food) TO THEM. 2:48 bro are you joking 35lbs?!
Unless you're feeding your cat bones and such that they get naturally, dry food is absolutely necessary to keep their teeth healthy. Unless you're giving them bones, Abrasive stuff like dry food Is the only way for them to brush their teeth.
“Makes the food smell and taste like fresh meat and fish” hmm. Sounds familiar. They do that with humans too. 😒
My cat doesn’t stop eating he’s getting fat 😢
So... stop feeding them so much lol.
You are in control.
Let's be honest. Cats should never eat grains, rice, or corn, which are prominent in store bought cat food. GMO crops are carcinogenic. Kibble is bad for cats. Feed your cats some of your meat. Give them organ meats.
I don't feed mycat dry !!!
Lover your pet?
Make them real food, not Kibbel and that stuff from cans
You can't truthfully make such statements. The quality of canned food varies A LOT from brand to brand, as does about everything else. If you want to feed them "real" food, you need to learn what proportions of raw meat, organs, animal by-products, ground bone, taurine, and other nutrients to combine, in the right proportions. OR... you can buy a high-quality frozen or freeze-dried raw food which supplies all of those ingredients. As an alternative, you could go out every day hunting for mice, birds, lizards, etc., and give them to your cat. If you do the latter, I would say you definitely "lover" your pet!

As many as it wants if it's maintaining its weight. Intermittent fasting is healthy for all of us.
Yes, that’s totally cool and everything but what happens when you have more than two cats… this person, free feed because this person have too much cats to give them separate meals, and that same person, they have a crazy life (totally just curious 🥸)
