  • in case y'all didn't know I'm a queer, fat person of color and those are the least interesting things about me! I also have a weird concentration face. Here I'm using the microcosm as a looper. I'm looping a phrase with the help of Andy Pitcher's string modifier adding some harmonic goodness. As soon as the phrase is recorded it's going into reverse and I'm messing with the loop speed. Hope you enjoy!

    I found it odd that you made comments about yourself act the beginning.....I watch loads of YT musical uploads - most don't show anything but their hands, and don't make any mention of themselves - what they are, what they are not.... Nonetheless, I love the Microcosm and found the video very interesting......

      I definitely enjoy being behind the camera much more. However even then I get comments on my appearance so I might as well be upfront every once in a while. Microcosm is a fantastic box

      Yeah, might as well put yourself out there and just do your musical thing.......Good for you. Other people will either be kind or jerks, no matter what we do.................................

    I love the harmony when it's played really slow, perfect for a full track ❤

      Thank you I agree! I definitely listened to this much longer than the time of the video. That's when you know you've got a good one

    Nice sounds. I'm always glad to see people embracing these methods of making music.
    Are you using an expression pedal or are the pitch sweeps in the beginning part of the DSP? I've never played with this pedal. My bandmate has one, but we only play online, which sucks, because I want him to play with my modular synthesizer and I want to play with his DIY noise boxes and pedals. I keep threatening him with driving to his city and forcing him to borrow my Manke Noise Shared System. Thee are just some people who need to be unleashed on a modular.
    The sounds made by the pedal you are using sound a lot like sounds I am getting from a module I recently purchased. It's the Data Bender by Qu-Bit. I'm doing guitar looping, or trying to, in modular. I need to buy a better in/out module. I'm just glad to see more people doing atmospheric looping with pedals, instead of the "imitating a full band" thing. I'm 52 and I've been doing looping for a long time now. My biggest influence was definitely the Fripp & Eno album Evening Star. I wonder what the younger loopers, like you, are being drawn into this musical painting method by. Probably artists I''ve never heard of. I'm old and out of the loop. No pun intended.
    I hope to start putting videos up soon. I use mostly an old Line 6 dl4 and sometimes a distortion pedal, but despite racks of effects ts, I get most effects from my tone knobs, picking dynamics, my e bow, my hands and layering techniques. Most importantly my volume knob. Adding the modular is slightly overwhelming. Partially because I'm slightly dogmatic about my music, partially because I'm recovering from a brain injury (5 years in), and partially because it's like going from one of those 4 packs of crayons they give kids in restaurants to the 200 pack with the built in sharpener. It's like going from drawing stick figures to trying to figure out howe to paint like Vermeer. I hoe I get there. It helps to know that there are others out there doing similar art. It validates my music.
    Thanks again. Sorry for the long message. Hey. At least it gave me time to listen to your looping four times.

      To answer a few of your questions.
      Yes those pitch shifting sweeps are just the microcosm!
      I'm hesitant about going modular but that's what originally influenced me to start making music again. Back when Hainbach was doing more no talking gear jams led me down that rabbit hole. I'm sure I'll get there eventually. It does seem like a lot to learn but will definitely keep your mind sharp.
      I actually hadn't heard Fripp and Eno until much later but I've always been into discovering new music. Tangerine Dream and Godspeed You! Black Emperor are some bands I find a lot of influence in, the way every song really takes you on a journey.
      Thank you so much for the listens and thoughtful comment!

    The mysterious hissquiet appears. Your interest keep my interest going. How do you like the microcosm?

    • @hissquiet
      @hissquiet  3 роки тому

      Hahaha indeed! I love it! If we can ever do brick and mortar shows again I think that this will be the only pedal I'll need to bring. For now it's played nice with everything I've thrown at it.

    I really dig the part where you turned the playback speed way down. Seemed like you could really jam over that. What is Andy Pitchers String Modifier?

    • @hissquiet
      @hissquiet  3 роки тому

      Oh definitely! I'll have to reuse that somewhere. It's basically a pre-stretched rubber bands that you can place over harmonic areas or just areas on your guitar. It's like having an extra finger over the harmonics here

    Very, very cool indeed. I really want one of these to go with my little synth set-up and it's great to hear what people are getting out of this pedal.
    Anyway - nice vid. Subbed.

      Thanks so much for the sub! I really can't find anything that a little bit (or a lot a bit) of microcosm can't make sound better. You will be delighted by it I'm sure!

      @@hissquiet You're welcome!
      I've been slowly building up a nice little collection of pedals over the last 8 years or so but have desperately wanted something like this for a long time. I nearly went for the Red Panda Particle years ago but it didn't seem worth it, when the original was just a mono output. The new version of that sounds nice but I put it off and I'm glad I did because I think this is way, waaaaay more of a better fit.
      Now I just need to get working again (my work has been heavily affected by the current Corona situation) and get one of these on order.
