The word Behemoth is the best description for this pedal. It's an absolute beast in every regard. Nice video Nick, it's a fitting farewell and you explained very eloquently the reasons for selling. I share those reasons, I have to admit.
I also think this pedal is more useful outside of the realm of guitar. I play guitar also, but anticipate using this with synths, drum machines, and samples for sound design. I completely get not wanting to integrate it into a guitar setup though, especially for gigging reasons.
I totally get and appreciate your reasons, I just want this pedal so much almost as a therapeutic sound dive whenever I have a spare few minutes/hours. There's something so relaxing about it
I understand the logic of your decision. For myself I’ll never sell mine as a matter of fact I’ve been considering buying a second one. I like the unpredictability of the algorithms. I refuse to work with a pedal that has graphical/building block interface Ike the LVX, way too much tweaking and dinking around rather than composing. But that’s just me. Again, i think your logic is sound and i always enjoy your posts and your perspective; much respect. Carry on!
Hey John. Very interesting perspective thanks for sharing it. Totally get what you mean. I think microcosm is a lot less random than some people make out once you really understand how to manipulate it, but still more unpredictable than say the LVX. I kinda like having a dedicated menu system that I can manipulate at speed, I feel like it enables me to get to sounds I want faster and actually gives me more composing time.
I sold mine last year and ive regreted it and im about to head out and pick up one again. granted i dont have an expansive pedalboard to replicate some of its features, in fact i only have a couple of pedals as i am not a guitarist mainly but like to doodle. other people have mentioned it here very well: there is something almost meditative and theraputic about it and i loved playing some lil melodies into it and just living wtithin the ambience
It does seem to be a recurring theme I hear in reviews of this pedal. I’ll see it on some UA-camrs board and they always say it’s just there for the mosaic setting.
I won´t get rid of mine anytime soon, but totally understand why you´ve sold it. I made the decision too, to sell stuff that simply doesn´t get enough use. Even if I loved the gear I´ve already sold, just having them sitting on a shelf isn´t worth keeping them.
@@nickreesyt I had the Apex100 from Ibanez. It was a KoRn signature guitar and to me the best looking guitar ever. I never got warm with it really, so I decided to let this one go. I still miss it from time to time, even years after. Than my Ibanez ES-2 delay. It was so good sounding, but didn't got enough use. My eletronic drum set had to go too. It was fun and I've learned a lot, but then space became a thing...
Nice informative vid! I've got one on the way to me and there's one question I. can't seem to find the answer to.....will it take a microphone (sm57) direct into it? I realise it's a dynamic mic so the signal will be a lot lower but with a cheap phantom powered preamp in between, that should do it? shouldn't it?
I would say yeh and yeh it’ll sound amazing with vocals! Loads more microcosm videos here on the channel and if you want any help don’t hesitate to say. Feel free to DM me on IG too
Hey Gav..welcome…yep it does…it’s also very close to the new chase bliss reverse mode c which I’ve just finished shooting a mini series of videos about. It really does sound brilliant through the Microsoft in stereo. Definitely got better examples in other videos in the MC here on the channel than this video of that setting too
Yah if I have a bunch of pedals that do the same thing and one pedal that DOES THEM ALL, I’m going to make room and sell all the redundant pedals. Not the opposite. 😅😅😅 (The one thing the Microcosm benefits from is a great stereo widening after it in the chain)
I very recently (like a couple of hours ago) acquired a Microcosm. I am not a guitarist. I plan to use this in an electro-acoustic setting with flutes kalimbas and a Roland AE-20. I'll let you know how it goes. My initial experiments with a MicroFreak have been fun. I speak fluent MIDI and I plan to exploit that aspect of the Microcosm a lot.
I’ve been thinking about selling mine for quite a longtime now. It offers some really good sounds, but I have been feeling I can’t really control what it does or how it does at the level you can with other pedals like the LVX or the Synesthesia or even the Enzo, which are three very nice pedals in my collection that I can get the sounds I want when I need them. None of these is necessarily in the Microcosm category and, to be honest the microcosm is in a league of its own, but that is maybe the problem, it is a very specific niche, which I guess you can’t know until you play with it for sometime. Your point of view makes me think I would be good selling it as well, as it has been maybe 4 months since I plugged it in last time. Thanks for sharing.
I was thinking that other gear, like the SOMA Cosmos, and later the MOOD MKII would be able to replace it. For a variety of reasons, I've come to the conclusions that the Microcosm is ideally suited to my workflow and sonic needs. Nothing against that other gear - but the Microcosm is quite exceptional.......Overall, it's the fact that it is a little unpredictable, but has presets and accpets MIDI Clock......so killer for 'ambient', and because of the switching, etc. ....it's really easy to use...............(I have quite a few videos will all the gear I've mentioned on my channel if you're interested)
@@willswitchcraft Oh cool..will check it out..I have a few pedals that are in the similar vein like Particle 2,Mood 2, Onward,Meris Mercury X...A lot of people say Mosaic mode is the most popular part of it..I dunno I'm wondering is it worth getting as I have these pedals already 🤔
Great pedal, but i just sold mine for many of the same reasons. I have a lot of reverbs as well as the Pladask Baklengs and Habit which I find to be a bit more interesting for ambient granular/pitch/delay effects. Plus i never used the looper.
I just finally bought one I finally found one for less than the price directly from the company I don't understand why people are charging so much for these used are they always out of stock?
No at all, it was just for the first montjs after release. Past that, flippers simply think people won't realize it is always available straight from the brand at a better price 😂
Ive gone the other way. Selling Mood MKII and Onward, keeping Microcosm. There's just something about Microcosm, and just when you think you've heard it all, you find something else. I've absolutely considered selling it before though. Just can never go through with it.
@nickreesyt I did, very nice. As it turns out, after writing my original comment I revisited the three pedals and decided to sell Microcosm. Now that Limited Edition dropped I may buy again, though I did always like the Black one they did. Very much the ZX Spectrum to the Commodore 64 vibes of the original!
@@nickreesyt i understand. well hopefully your channel grows always more and gets the attention it deserves soon and next time around you wont have to make a financial decision like this. i think you make really quality content.

Nick - get your hands on a Walrus Qi and do a comparison to the Mosaic setting please 😀

Can you explain the TIme knob and specifically the subdiv and tempo buttons? I'm a bit confused on what those settings do?

I feel this. it really is a great pedal.
Hologram needs to put out a smaller form factor Mosaic and expand on it. It’s why this pedal sells.
I’d be lining up for that as would many, hard agree
