The Meryl ending is the default ending, Pat, the torture sequence isn't that tough, kids were able to do it. What is a little tiring is going through *every* optional torture sequence to get to the moment where Gray Fox lets you out, if you fail every other opportunity to escape before that point. Edit: In Twin Snakes they changed Psycho Mantis' line to "It's strange, it feels... nostalgic" after talking about this being the first time he helped somebody, which works way better in the context of later games, but was probably suppose to be a nod to Twin Snakes being a remake.

I saw the most precious Pug at a shelter last year that I just wasn't able to look after or find a home for, but it's good knowing Pat and Paige can do that. Plus, another friend for Pat Jr. 😊

Only difference is that Liquid would've actually be in the cockpit piloting with Mantis assistance in the 2nd fight, rather than just Mantis moving the whole thing with magic because brat had a fit over false information. Which is always hilarious - who decided to tell this kid the opposite that he didn't have soldier genes so he's the "inferior clone; or how did find out about that.... And it's not even true he has em and Solid doesn't - I guess it's a good test to see if those soldier genes are even worth anything. clearly not lol
I think the idea is the Patriots probably deliberately fed Liquid misinformation about his genes as a means of testing nature vs nurture, which Ocelot then reinforced because he's a moustache-twirling dickhead and he and Miller agreed to pitch the kids against each other. Remember the last message from Naomi is that genes don't make us who we are, and that's why characters like Solid Snake and Venom succeed, because of self-belief Liquid simply doesn' have.
