    Best tutorial on blending ever.

Thank you for this video. I think this is definitely the best demonstration I've seen on blending oil pastels. What papers do you recommend for oil pastels? Are there certain papers you tend toward for softer vs. harder oil pastels? I've used Canson Mi Teintes and Papelsino papers so far, and I like them, but I'm curious about your thoughts.

I really appreciate your emphasis on a "light touch". So many oil pastellists really grind the initial layer into the paper in order to "kill the white". Then they aggressively scrub the blending color in on top. Because there's already too much OP down on the paper from the first pass the result is a clumsy mess -- or mud. Let's hear it for a gentle approach and the lowly cotton bud!!!!

Best demonstration on blending I have seen. Thank you John! I’m very new to OP, this is so helpful.

I am new to oil pastels. I have just turned 70 and learning this medium is on my bucket list. I have watched Yolanda Blazquez on UA-cam and adore the complexions she creates on her female portraits. I don't understand everything about this medium and am truly thankful that I found this video. My technique has been all wrong. Thank you for what you taught. I am indebted.

@@johnsartmaterialguidestuto7757 oh, John! Don't hold back. You've seen Yolanda Blazquez channel and her portrait work, right? The complexions are so smooth and beautiful. She no longer has a Patreon channel and doesn't share the colors she uses. I so want to learn how to do complexions like that. I think your video here is my first step. Please teach us your secrets!!!

Oh my gosh, I love her work! That is the reason why I decided I really wanted to master oil pastels… I do a lot of portraits and the smoothness and blending of the complexions is unmatched and its end result to any other medium other than maybe oil paint or chalk pastel. There’s just some thing about it! But the learning curve is steep And blending does need to be a little more explained. I usually zoom in to those videos and pay close attention to how it is applied to the paper.
