What this movie did for the DCU is what Thor: Ragnarok did for its series. It was certainly action packed, but it didn't take itself too seriously. Especially how even Deadpool acknowledges the level of darkness in the DCU.
I think the point in making DC dark at first was to insert Superman into it and have him go through his trial and tribulations. Then when he embraces his role as hero, he brings light to a dark world. In other words, what's the point of Superman bringing hope and light to a world that doesn't need it? Superman's light would shine brighter in a world of darkness, because of the contrast of light and dark. I think that was the intention when Snyder decided to make a darker DC world.
It's what I don't like about the lighter tone DC took with this movie and everything after it. There is no weight or consequence to any of it. The world isn't different by Shazam's existence. It's a fun movie, but I much preferred the more adult tone of DC. Regardless, it doesn't matter as everything has changed and people will get their Guardians of the Galaxy type DC world.

The character of Shazam was originally known as "Captain Marvel." Yes, both Marvel AND DC both had characters named Captain Marvel. AND somehow they both got a movie release in the same year!
Yeah. Faucet comics had Shazam. Then DC took him. And Marvel then used the name.
They were nearly in the same month.
I literally watched one after another in the cinema! 😄
the difference is this is DC's original Captain Marvel, while Marvel went with 3/4 choice. Mar-Vell was number one followed by Monica.

This movie didn’t do nearly as well as it should’ve it’s SO underrated 😭
That’s because it was overshadowed by Avengers Endgame a few weeks after its release. Thankfully, it seems WBD learned from their mistake as they had pushed back the film from its original December 16th release date to its current March 17th release, as they knew that Avatar 2 was going to blow them out of the water if they had kept the original release date. Now they’ll have friendly competition with Creed III, Quantamania (depending on if it’ll still be playing in theaters by mid-March), and The Super Mario Bros. Movie when the latter comes out a few weeks after Shazam 2.

The caterpillar in the post credits scene is Mister Mind, one of Shazam's biggest enemies.
One of his most prominent enemies, but not exactly one of the biggest.
The kids did the dramatic pause when telling Billy about his mom bc they were worried. They are all nice kids who love accepting new ppl and kids into their family. So they all especially Mary and Darla (especially after she realized it was billy that saves her and talked to her as Shazam) were really happy and excited when Billy was brought home. So they were afraid that his mom mightve really lost him and might want to take him back. Which means they would lose a brother and they wouldn't want that.
I live in Philadelphia and regrettably SEPTA trains don’t transport you to a wizard’s magic cave where you get superpowers. Believe me, I’ve tried getting off at that stop without luck. We’re lucky if the trains even show up on time without breaking down

Absolutely LOVED this movie. Zach Levi was such perfect casting for this role. I don't understand why DC showrunners feel the need to make everything dark and gloomy, when this movie did so well.
Because DC is known for being darker and grittier. Even the comics are darker than Marvel. And you see Joss Whedons more comical rewrites in Justice League were HATED. It was awful. Marvel is more suited for comedy. DC is more suited for drama, with occasional comedic moments sprinkled in
@@Orion_TheyThem I'd say Whedon's version flopped b/c he was brought in at the end. It was a patch job at best. The DC movies that went over best had a fair bit of comedy to them.
@@Orion_TheyThem DC is only "known for being darker and grittier" because of Batman, and the Dark Knight trilogy in particular. Most of the other DC superheroes have been much lighter. DC gave us Plasticman, Superfriends, Super Pets, and even Adam West's Batman. Comic books in general have always been "light" for the most part. They're called *comic* books.

Shazam was always a kids character so he got a light hearted movie.

The caterpillar at the end is Mr. Mind. Don't let his size fool you. He's one of the most intelligent and dangerous villains in the DC comics. He can hypnotize you, telepathically make you see things that aren't really there and can even transform into a giant monster that can literally devour timelines.
Fun fact cavil want to come back as Superman but the school they where filming at had to open and he couldn’t make it in time so they put a person in the suit and covered his face.
Dr. Silvana´s father is Lionel Luthtor from Smallvile.
This is honestly one of my favorite DC films ever.

The DCU's plan was to build a super villain team called Legion of Doom. I think it was a great idea because the MCU wouldn't have anything like it.
As a Philadelphian I love how well this film shows the city.
In Re: why the post-credit scene with Sivana. Sivana (along with Black Adam) has classically been one of Shazam's (Capt. Marvel's) primary enemies -- similar to Joker for Batman, or Lex Luthor for Superman.

What's crazy about this movie is that black Adam was the one in the comics trying to absorb Capt Marvels' part of the power. The villain, in this film, was like black Adam in all the ways that matter except for his backstory and costume.
An interesting observation. The movie's Sivana certainly was nothing like the comics' goofy mad scientist character, and not once did he refer to "Shazam" (Captain Marvel) as a Big Red Cheese.

From what I hear, WB actually asked Cavill to do a cameo but he refused and that's why he was initially fired caused they were pissed.
Funny enough, it's also said that The Rock refused to do a cameo for Shazam 2 as well. And now he's fired as well

I caught this on a flight, not knowing what to expect, but it definitely made the time pass a little quicker! Such a fun movie.

The dude who got to portray Blue Beetle started out as a scrawny kid in Cobra Kai season one. Now, he’s jacked - almost like Chris Evans and Cap.
This is easily a top DC movie for me. It’s incredibly and probably the most comic accurate dc film since reeves Superman. It’s a ton of fun with a touch of horror, such a great message about family. In my opinion only The Suicide Squad is better from all the DCEU movies. Great reaction, your laugh is contagious 😂
Its funny this film got a lot of slack but a kid growing up in the foster system as someone who grew up in that environment I connected to this film and I think the message is quite powerful, hey seb just a new sub here:))

I do hope they will bring Shazam back in the new DC line-up, even if just for an appearance in Kingdom Come eventually. Call me a fanboy, but I would love to see Shazam vs Superman in live action.

He's not in just every Marvel and DC thing. I'm pretty sure he's in every comic book property that comes out. He was even in Invincible. The Martian King.

Shazam has an edge over Superman because his powers are from magic, which is one of his weaknesses.
A bit late but the Caterpillar name is Mr. Mind. And he is one of the most menacing villains ever not just in DC, but in all superhero comics. People should take him seriously, he may be small but never underestimate him
Great reaction! I loved Shazam and can't wait for the new one later this year. I feel like you could react to Black Adam next even though it isn't technically in order. Black Adam was not great but pretty good. And he is Shazam's biggest villain... Although now I doubt we'll ever see these actors interact
There is a magical character that can turn into a tiger in the Shazam or Captain Marvel comics, which is the name DC used to call him. Fawcett is the name of the comics Shazam used to be with before DC bought the rights to him.
I don't think he turned into a tiger. He just was one, who gained the ability to walk upright and speak, by drinking a magic serum. You refer, of course, to Mr. Talky Tawny.

Cavil didn't want to appear in the end credits even though he had cameos in his contract, and that was the last straw for wb to not wanna work with him anymore.

S.H.A.Z.A.M. stacks equally to Superman. Some would even say that Shazam could even beat Superman in a fight. Remember, Billy is still a child and lacks experience and fighting skills, but Shazam's powers are based on magic which Superman is vulnerable to. Shazam's lightning does indeed hurt Superman. Both heroes have virtually equal powers and strength levels.

The movie was fun and all but the thing I disliked a lot was the difference between Billy-the child and Billy-shazamed. I mean they behave completely differently, didn't believe they were the same person for a second. But still it was a fun watch

Gosh thoses kids have terrible parents. Thadeus's father insult him and blaimed him for the accident while the kid did nothing wrong. Billy's mother just abandon him for no good reason. Also, the lady never tried to find him after the police officers took care of him. If she really loved her son, the mother would have done everything to find him. Billy is happier without her, he got a lot of sibblings AND they are heroes like him. Every one of them liked him and respected him. Billy's new family is unite and sweet 🥰
