This movie literally saved the horror genre and revolutionized the industry at the time, as well as Wes Craven's career. Horror movies weren't even being produced anymore because studios thought people just didn't like horror. Turns out, all that was needed was a fresh and new film that did something different.
Yep! To anyone watching it for the first time now it might not seem so revolutionary, but that’s because it influenced so much of what came after. It still holds up though imo, Craven and Williamson really kept you guessing about who the killer was and the meta jokes are still relevant. New Nightmare is also incredible from this era.
@@atawbi Only reason she wasn’t in it more predominantly is because she was starring in another movie at the time and couldn’t meet the filming requirements.

They originally wanted Drew Barrymore to play Sidney but she was the one who suggested that it would be more shocking if she died at the beginning of the movie.
And then there’s Kenny and Gale in the van, screaming at Jamie who’s played by an actor called Jamie who’s screaming at Jamie Lee Curtis to turn around. Also to add more, in another movie, Jamie the actor is yelling at himself in this movie (because his character is watching Scream) to turn around while Kenny and Gale scream at him to turn around while he’s screaming at Jamie Lee to turn around. One of the most iconic opening scenes in any horror movie! Imagine being in theaters in 1996 expecting young Drew Barrymore to be the main character of the movie, only to be ki**ed off within the first 5 minutes. Wes Craven and Kevin Williamson (screenwriter) knew how to keep audiences on their toes. Also, this cast is forever iconic.

@@kunglaoshat1250 yess!! Matthew played that character so well! Kinda makes me sad he was killed off. I would have loved for him to continue throughout the series.
Things that made this film great: 1. Casey Becker's death. Played by scream queen Drew Barrymore. She was the face in every Scream poster before release. So when she is killed off it shocked everyone, not only because of the gruesome death, but she was the face of all the posters. 2. The meta commentary. This wasn't the first horror movie to have meta commentary, Friday the 13th Part 6 kind of started that trend. But Scream is the most known for it and because of Scream's commentary, it influenced so many horror movies. 3. The double killers twist. I may or may not be right, but Scream was the 1st Slasher to pull a double killer twist. And even just have 2 killers. The Bride of Chucky came afterwards which was heavily influenced by Scream. And it was just a big shock for them to do it.
Matthew Lillard and Skeet Ulrich (Billy and Stu) are two of my favourite killers in horror films and not just because they're beautiful...okay mostly that.

I think that first kill scene is what scares me to this day, her hanging on the tree, I do not want to see something like that in real life :\ it disturbs me deeply lol
Seb some advice if you want to watch the other Scream movies, without trying to spoil too much: 1. Screams 2-4 went through massive rewrites. I believe 2, 3 & maybe 4's scripts were somehow leaked during the making of the movie. Scream 2 only really changed the big finale compared to the original script idea. Scream 3 was massively changed because of Columbine shooting, and then was changed a second time. 3 also had a different writer than 1, 2 & some of 4. Kevin Williamson wrote the script for 1, 2 & somewhat 4 and helped with 5. Scream 4, Kevin Williamson wrote a great script(at least in my opinion, I read it online) had a great finale(in my opinion), but for some reason Williamson left and the writer from Scream 3 made a bunch of changes to Williamson's Scream 4 to what it is now. 2. Wes Craven who directed Nightmare on Elm Street, 1, 3, & 7, directed the 4 Scream movies before passing away in 2015. 3. Scream 5 & soon to be 6 was directed by the directors of the horror movie "Ready or Not"
Amazing reaction!!! I love this movie or all of the scream movies. Grow up watching them!!! Seen them, well lost count. But they're really great! Please watch the sequels 🙏🏼 !!!
I hope you do all the Scream movies. The Scream movie have a special place in my heart. The music is amazing. When Ghostface is doing his thing, the music that being played is the old time Universal Monster movie music. Then when Billy is getting the PG-13 treatment, the music that's playing is Don't Fear the Reaper, foreshadowing that Billy is the killer.
Scream mainly just makes fun of horror movies, in the final fight sequence theres halloween playing on a tv, or like how billy says "corn serupe, the same thing theye used for pigs blood in carrie" or when billy dies randy says "this is the part where the supposidly dead killer comes back for one last scare".
Wes Carpenter is a joke as in Wes Craven director of Nightmare on Elm St and Scream as well and also John Carpenter director of Halloween and many other horror films
Also you wanna talk about clever camera work and editing the minute Billy and Stu cornered Randy in the video store I knew that the two of them were the killer the chemistry just was too good
funfact about that scene with randy saying behind you jamie to jamie lee curtis's charactor Laurie, HIS actor's name is also jamie (kennedy) and we all were tell him the killer was behind him!
One theory that makes sense to me (other than the mask giving superpowers) is that Billy and Stu were romantically/sexually involved and confused about their identities.
Mathew lillard improved his line about the phone. When the actor who played Billy through the phone it wasn't supposed to hit Matthew but it did. So he improvised what he felt.
i think you didn't get the joke when Randy was saying Jamie look behind you. the actor who plays Randy, his name is Jamie Kennedy. So the joke was he was basically telling himself to turn around because the killer was behind him. and at the same time telling Jamie Lee Kurtis to look behind her.
You finally reacted to Scream! Been hoping for this reaction for quite some time now! Now you better do the sequels some time in the future. No pressure though.
If you're looking for a really good unsettling horror movie I reccomend Smile, it just came out & I watched it in the theaters. I couldn't sleep for a couple days after!
Watched it about 5 times in theaters when it originally opened. Watch it a few times a year, especially during this time of year. And yes, rule #1 to survive, is you can never have sx. That's why Randy survived and he was glad about it.
I love horror movies 👏🏼👏🏼 so excited for Seb Scream And that “ Wes Carpenter“ remark is because one of the top 2 John Carpenter and Wes Craven horror Directors were referenced all over also Wes Craven is the Director for the first four scream movie so it was a nod to both of them 😂 also also Wes Craven also directed a nightmare on Elm Street and had a cameo in scream playing that nod to Freddy Krueger as the janitor Fred !
There should be an Animated series like Tales From the Crypt but it's just called Ghostface. Or Maybe every episode is either Chucky, Freddy, Michael. Jason, Ghostface, or Leatherface.
You know the scene where Syd stabs Billy with the umbrella? The pain on his face is real. He'd just had shoulder surgery, so that dazed look on his face when he fell was a genuine rection. It also just clicked in my head that Shaggy was about to kill the guy wearing a Shaggy-esque outfit.

Probably my favorite horror movie of all time, such a classic. And Mathew Lillard is quite possibly the most underrated actor to ever live. I fricken love that man.
SEB U HAVE NO IDEA HOW MUCH U NEED TO WATCH HEREDITARY ITS THE BEST
@@Mark.H. WAIT WHATTTT
I think that first kill scene is what scares me to this day, her hanging on the tree, I do not want to see something like that in real life :\ it disturbs me deeply lol
"I feel like she'll survive the whole thing"
Sidney - "Yes"
Seb some advice if you want to watch the other Scream movies, without trying to spoil too much:
3. Scream 5 & soon to be 6 was directed by the directors of the horror movie "Ready or Not"
No wonder all the other scream movies are so awful
1 was definitely the best of them all now it makes sense that they had different writers
omg i love the scream franchise, i’m so happy your watching it!!
Blonde girl was also in charmed .and the teacher is played by actor who played Fonz in happy fays
19:54 - Matthew Lillard is golden in this movie.
Wes Carpenter is a joke as in Wes Craven director of Nightmare on Elm St and Scream as well and also John Carpenter director of Halloween and many other horror films
The intro for this movie is masterful it’s funny and clever while at the same time being horrifying and a bit sad as well Not to mention brutal
I love how every single scares him lol he's so cute
seb calling billy disgusting hurt my heart
his lingo it the best "what's her face " love it so much
To this day I’m still offended that they killed off rose McGowans character
One theory that makes sense to me (other than the mask giving superpowers) is that Billy and Stu were romantically/sexually involved and confused about their identities.
I'm so excited!! I was 7 when I watched this.. been in love with horror since
Mathew lillard improved his line about the phone. When the actor who played Billy through the phone it wasn't supposed to hit Matthew but it did. So he improvised what he felt.
*Seb uploads Scream reaction*
My reaction: “AYO!”
i think you didn't get the joke when Randy was saying Jamie look behind you. the actor who plays Randy, his name is Jamie Kennedy. So the joke was he was basically telling himself to turn around because the killer was behind him. and at the same time telling Jamie Lee Kurtis to look behind her.
3:38 It's okay, those are just the shadow creatures, they just don't like to be looked at 🙂
“You wanna talk about fair ? This girls mother was murdered” 🤣
Seb, please do the rest of the scream movies!! 😍
Also im absolutely a fan of your channel! Really enjoy your videos!
Wow at 7:12 used to always scare me too I always thought it was the killer standing there, thank god there someone else 😅
19:27 The way you grabbed a book and pen and then threw the pen. 😂😂😂
Seb has to watch the thing! All time classic horror movie
Rewatching for the end of October because I miss SebScream this year😝
This is my second favorite horror franchise. You should really react to the other 4 movies also.
Handsome with that mustache 💕😭🥰 great reaction
Oh my god! This is everything I didnt know I needed!!! This is gonna be an epic spooky season! Thanks Sebastian!
I love horror movies 👏🏼👏🏼 so excited for Seb Scream
And that “ Wes Carpenter“ remark is because one of the top 2 John Carpenter and Wes Craven horror Directors were referenced all over also Wes Craven is the Director for the first four scream movie so it was a nod to both of them 😂 also also Wes Craven also directed a nightmare on Elm Street and had a cameo in scream playing that nod to Freddy Krueger as the janitor Fred !
Love this movie so much 🙏🏼
I’ve heard she actually could fit through that flap in the garage and had to pretend she couldn’t 😂
There should be an Animated series like Tales From the Crypt but it's just called Ghostface. Or Maybe every episode is either Chucky, Freddy, Michael. Jason, Ghostface, or Leatherface.
totally forgot if you dont know who the principal he is know as the famous fonzie he is in alot of movies
13:36
It's funny you say that cause idk if anyone told you but that was Wes Craven the director of this film your watching!
