- Lemon bars are one of the EASIEST desserts to make but oh so delicious. I love the soft lemon filling paired with a crisp shortbread crust and the flavor is beyond; so bright and zingy with all the lemon flavor from the juice and zest, they’re simply irresistible!

I like my lemon squares with a really soft top and a crisp bottom but you can adjust bakiing times to your liking. Hope you enjoy!

Just made this recipe today - he's not lying when he says they're like drops of sunshine in bar form. I have tasted many lemon-flavoured treats in my time, but these were the tangiest, zingiest, lemoniest bars I have ever tasted - made all the better by the fact that I made them myself in my own home. Get ready for a lemon explosion in your mouth upon tasting!

I left them in the refrigerator got up the next morning took them out to bring to room temperature tented the sides with foil preheat my oven to directions temp and in they went for another bake, they are in the cooling process and are going to be delicious! Just wanted to share incase it happens to anyone else. This is my forever recipe! Thank you

Your recipes are super easy to follow, not complicated steps, for a beginner baker like me. I’ve recently began to really enjoy lemon flavoured desserts and now I’m hooked. I probably bake lemon cookies every couple of months but I’m going to add this one to my next lemon baking day! Thank you!

my quarantine grocery delivery gave me four pounds of lemons instead of the four i requested. i have a million directions i could go in. i grated the peel and froze it and squeezed and froze the juice in ice cube trays from most of the lemons. i have some i still haven't decided what to do with. i may just do these lemon bars. thanks.

I would like to express my gratefullness to you and your cooking&baking videos, and of course your great efforts making bakings become easy to understand and follow! I first was a person who knew nothing at all about baking, and now I have a small business selling cakes made by myself, following your recipes! One day surfing youtube and got interested in your strawberry cupcakes video, I decided to try to follow and my kids loved the taste of it! I started to be inspired by baking since then! I always think how thankful I am to you who has been inspiring my hobby now as baking which brings me some profit I make everyday from selling cakes. Especially, I've learned even more the value of the money as baking is fun but always a hard job too!
I baked a tray of lemon bar today and it received tons of great comments on the nice flavour! I am so happy that I decided to write some words here to thank you!

2 1/2 cups of all purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon of salt
2/3 cups powdered sugar
12 tablespoon of unsalter butter
Filling:
3 cups of sugar
Zest of 3 lemons
1 cup of lemon juice
1/2 cup of flour
8 pcs of eggs

I just tried this recipe for a christmas party. First time for me to make lemon bars, and it turned out really delicious! It has a very balance flavor of lemon, sugar and butter. Definitely will bake these again. Thank you for the recipe!

Hi John! I made these lemon bars with my girlfriend last weekend, as they were a present for her mom. She loved them, and so did we! I’ve been wanting to learn how to make lemon bars for a while, so when I saw this video I was just so excited! I was surprised at how easy it was, and wow the fresh lemons and lemon sugar make a huge difference! So amazing. Thank you so much for sharing!

I love lemon, but I never was a fan of these, now I know why. This is a great recipe, simple, well done. and really delicious. I followed this too. I now realize that the other ones I had snubbed were not real lemons, but a pie filling and the crust was soggy. These however are perfect: lemony, sweet, and the crust is perfectly softly crunchy. Thanks!

I made these today and while I'm generally a hot mess in the kitchen anymore, and made the odd mistake or too, these turned out yummy, thank you!! I wish I had your lemons. I bought six and still had to supplement with with a touch of bottled juice. Will most likely make them again! 💛🙂

I made these last night as a gift. That’s trust. But John’s recipes are reliable. I baked and cooled for an hour and put them in the ‘fridge overnight. I cut and sugared and wrapped this morning. I safety tested. 😆 Oh my-dangerously wonderful. 💣
Please let the person who “corrected” you on your usage of the word scale that this is the 21st century. Unless you are using an old set of scales with two sides-one to hold a weight and the other to hold the item(s) being weighed-the correct term for what you are using is “scale”, in the singular.

According to Merriam Webster, even if you're referring to the old-fashioned weighing instrument, it's USUALLY in plural form. In other words, it isn't wrong to use the singular form.

I went and got all the iingredients and had fun making this awesome treat. I selected you because you explain and educate as you go along. Plus this is far easier and less complicated that French Lemon Tart. It's in the oven and tonmorrow I will be sharing them with my neighbours cos I am single. It is 8 pm so I will chill them overnight. I feel incredibly happy cooking and it is really easy.

I teach 2nd grade and decided to use my fellow teachers as my test taster group for these lemon bars. Mind you, teachers are a tough crowd because many of them can bake! So, I left them in the staff room and they were all gone by lunch! Many of them said they were SO good! Thank you!!!!
I just tried this recipe. Awesome!
A few lessons I learned:
1. Don’t let the crust cool before pouring the filling. Otherwise the filling will sink to the bottom.
2. Don’t overbake the crust. This can lead to dry, less dense crust so then the crust will float.
I feel like the filling is way too soft and runny, it needs to be harder.
Love your recipes...I’m making a book of all my recipes for my grand daughters as they love to bake with me. Your recipes will be a part of the book I leave for them. Memories!

I, too, am a lemonaholic and haven't had lemon bars for soooo long! I'll be making these today and introducing my grandchildren to them. One of them is like me and loves lemon so I know they'll be a hit with him but I'm hoping they'll both love them. If not, no loss, just more for me and my fellow lemonaholic grandson :)

Oh the glorious lemon ! When I was little, Mom would give us each a quarter. We would walk down to the local grocery.. to buy a treat. My brother and sister would buy candy ( of course... what else would a kid do with a quarter ) Not me, I would buy a couple of lemons .. bring them home .. slice them up. Then it was me, my lemons and a shaker of salt. THIS was my TREAT ! Lemon-aholic .. ? yes .. ! To this day lemon flavor rules ! I SO want to make these !!

I made these for st patricks day and added a little green food coloring! Huge hit- preppy kitchen is my go to for all desserts. I made about a thousand spritz cookies last xmas, and I made my boyfriends mom the Key Lime Pie a couple weeks ago which she looooved. You're earning me major brownie points! (pun intended)

It's citrus season here so I made these for a party and they were delish! My husband loves them. I usually don't like lemon bars because the ones I've had always either taste metallic or eggy. Not the case with these! I love lemon anything, so I'm happy to find this perfect recipe. One thing I've noted on the recipe for next time, is to make them the day to be eaten. I made them the day before the party, so the shortbread crust got a little soft from the moisture of the lemon curd. Didn't affect the flavor of course, just the shortbread texture.
