This video is in part disingenuous. As an African myself it is infact the fault of the people. Firstly, Africa is not that unique in terms of raw materials or oil that they all 'want a piece'. Parts of central Asia are just as blessed. Why they come here is because they get it cheaper, mainly "who ever comes to Africa for goods or materials comes to exploit"
@@OsirisMawn The Asians are also exploiting the African countries for their raw materials too tho, and the reason the they give it up for so cheap is because they have no choice😢, it’s the only way they can make money.
I am from Chad and I just discovered your channel. I have to say that this is probably the best video I have ever watched on this topic. Africa is not poor but rather impoverished. There is a difference. When I was studying International Relations in the Western education system, we were lectured on the goodness and merits of the World Bank and IMF....It's truly a sad reality for us Africans to be stuck in this vicious cycle done in collaboration with our puppet leaders. How can one group of people be so evil against another?
"We would like to borrow 40 million to improve our transportation and education please" "Sure! One condition. You have to use 60% of the funds to build a water park"
And this is why Nigerians kept telling their government officials to stop borrowing monies from the IMF, the World Bank, or China. (Also, respect for the Sahel, and let's strive to be like Singapore instead.)
China and Singapore also took loans from the IMF and World Bank during the initial stage of their development, the difference is they utilized the money well and invested in production not consumption.
Americans, Europeans, and Australians who think they have hard lives really have no idea what hardship means, here in Africa it’s about survival every single breathing day

This bill would have caused the prices of common commodities to go up and make life unbearable. When looking at the reasons, for this bill, the president had taken a loan from the IMF, but the IMF gave out strict requirements, for him to be given the loan he must first raise the taxes. This led to an uproar in the country, there were protests in every major town eventually the bill was dropped. The logical conclusion can only be that Africa as a whole we are been undone by internal factors and external factors. The reason why the Europeans lost their control over colonies is because the two big countries who came out of World War 2 in strong position had an incentive to make sure Western Europe didn't have colonies, and so pushed them to the bargaining table. If the Africans truly had any leverage at these negotiations on their own, then it would have been easy for the African leaders to simply avoid any new predatory systems that the Europeans offered. It's not like it wouldn't be unreasonable for them to be skeptical of any new European systems given the historical context.

This documentary misses the mark in some key areas. It barely touches on the corruption and self-interest of those who accepted the loans, and it treats Africa almost like a child in need of guidance. The continent is home to countless talented and brilliant individuals, but, yet its systems often end up elevating mediocrity over excellence-one of the biggest reasons behind many of its struggles. Sure, the IMF has been ruthless, but let’s be real: there are other factors at play here that we can't ignore.
It also fails to mention that other countries that are not the west engage in the same tactics like the IMF. This is a extremely bias and anti west documentary. Probably a Putin's puppet.
Because domestic corruption has been the narrative since WWII. Neocolonialism and the assassination of African presidents who attempt to advance the continent is only now being spoken on and still dismissed just like it was when the soviets used to tell everyone.
Ever wonder who backs the mediocre and corrupt leaders? The brilliant ones will be pushed aside to ensure that African countries would not ever get away from the shackles of western power.
I'm African and have been looking for this comment. I am tired of the victim mentality that makes out Africans, especially the leaders, as passive victims of colonisation, neo-colonialism and western influence in general. Unfortunately, such videos don't help solve Africa's problems and instead create self fulfilling prophecy of helplessness and victim hood in Africans making them passive.
Did you miss the part where if a leader wasn't corrupt they get CIA disappeared or were ousted in Coups? This isn't about victimhood this is about domination. Whether you'd like to admit it or not, the West has dominated the African continent and controls what happens there to this day.
This video is so well explained, being half white and half Black in Belgium I always heard so much about this from my Black family but no one really is an expert so everyone knows bits and parts so I was always a bit confused. Demolishing homes and roads just to build it again and again. Our prime minister only cares about image, he is putting decorations up like a child, and tells us look how beautiful your city looks.

I know a couple of people from the villages in the Eastern Cape who where enlisted to go fight the white war in Europe, some of those who survived(black and coloured people) where given jackets and bicycles while some very few where given land, but all the whites(BOERS) who survived where given land and money by the Anglo government that controlled the Union of South Africa.
As a kenyan it is so sad to see that such currupt powers are in control of our country. More countries need to reject foreign debt and start solving the issue internally which is curruption. If we our leaders take accountability and stop stealing all our money we can actualy go somewhere.
Of course because it will change his narrative, it's point out that it's the sole reason like it really is. When in fact a lot played a role and it's probably just the smallest reason of em all and it's just war and corruption from their leaders
An Oxfam report from a few years ago calculated that for every 1 USD that comes into Africa, as a continent, through foreign aid, 3 USD leave through European and US multinatinals every year. We are being grossly exploited through neo-liberal economic policies imposed on us by our neo-colonizers.

@sandyshoals7565
@@sandyshoals7565 Stalin was evil, but he had a point. He predicted that WW2 was going to happen in 20 years, so he did everything possible to prepare Russia for WW2 (It was basically mostly farmers, could not make guns at any scale). That includes killing political "prisoners" and anyone else who stood in his way. The man was a genius, he read novels when he was 12, but also had a fucked up childhood and became a fucked up man.
King Leopold wanted to be rich, but somehow cutting off the left hands of the Congolese made in there. That's just being evil and fucked up just to be feel like a bigger person, not actually achieving the goal of being rich.

I have never seen a video, so accurately and eloquently depicts the current African economic situation. Change must come. Thanks bro 👊🏾
This is heart breaking 😢😭
I am not African but I feel the pain and anger as someone from a country that is also still being used by the West, USA to be specific.

From ethiopia here, our govt just floated the currency. since then: exchange rate is now 120, up from 56. In 3 months.

Jake Tran, Thank you for this video.... As a Kenyan with a Zimbabwean friend who told me they thought Mugabe was the problem (I mean he was) but once he left power they realized the enemy was much bigger than the one president. Ruto is just the tip of the iceberg and if he leaves power they replace him with another puppet through bribes. How will we get ourselves out of this mess😢
Man, your illustrations are amazing. The colour balance, the transitions, the apt placing of faces, it looks like something made by a studio for Netflix production. Truly serves as an equal complement to the facts and narration of the video.
Thank you for making this and shedding light on the Congo issue. As a longtime viewer of your content and a Belgian of Congolese descent, I appreciate you coming back to cover this topic. Thanks, Jake. 🇨🇩🇨🇩🇨🇩🇨🇩❤🔥
😂"a Belgian of Congolese decent "you sound pathetic.
Anglo French ?
The white people are good people. They ran things properly. Unfortunately non whites are very racist jealous people who lie about history.
Jake is back!
As a kenyan it is so sad to see that such currupt powers are in control of our country. More countries need to reject foreign debt and start solving the issue internally which is curruption. If we our leaders take accountability and stop stealing all our money we can actualy go somewhere.
This should be shown in all public schools.
Why wouldn't you mention that the USA forced the Europeans to decolonize?
You’re delusional. The device you’re typing this on is only possible because of congos resources.
@@Yh-vi2sv What does that have to do with what I said?
