**VIDEO SPOILERS BELOW** Thoughts on Storyteller, sort of a review: The game's length was fine, even with cost factored in. I would compare it to Gorogoa, another innovative puzzle game with an identical length and price tag. I don't care about total game time, but I do care about how long a game can make me feel something. Storyteller gave me a lot of good laughs due to the unexpected interactions between characters and the absurdity of the situations. Even though the game only lasted 2 hours, it was 2 hours of pure comedy, which is much more than many other "funny" games have to offer. While the comedy and general premise delivered, I didn't get much puzzle solving satisfaction nor enjoyment from creativity, despite this game being more than capable of nailing those aspects. The puzzles only started getting difficult when 8 panels were introduced, and the easier puzzles had a lot more railroading than I had hoped. By railroading, I mean that there were many separate puzzles that basically had the same goal, but you were only given the tools to reach that goal one way in each puzzle. I would have preferred that several puzzles were merged into one, so you could use your creativity to solve the puzzle in the way you wanted, then be offered the opportunity to find the other solutions by means of bonus objectives. The game was too scared to give more than one bonus objective per puzzle and strangely replaced the jester hats (previously denoting bonus objectives) with plain dots. What purpose did that serve? I thought the jester hats had good personality. Another letdown was that there was nothing unlocked after completing all the puzzles, despite being lead to believe that there would be. You would think that a game about storytelling would understand that establishing a locked page would foreshadow that there's bonus content. The player is gleefully anticipating bonus content throughout the entire game, only to have that joy stripped away by the disappointing reveal of nothing. Still, playing the game was both fun and satisfying. There was never a single moment (except Waiting For Godot) that I was displeased with the game's logic, and the main mechanic is so fun to use that I can't be too angry. I greatly hope that an update with more levels comes out one day, and if it does, I will be the first to play it. Overall Rating: 7/10 (Very Good)
I rate it 6/10 personally as I like more complicated puzzles for example, can of wormholes, it is a game that introduces so many new mechanics and sometimes even more than one mechanic per puzzle
jk i just did, I would say that it is a good game to take up a couple of hours. The no unlocks is a bummer there ahould be some sort of level creator of challenge lecels that you unlock after completing the game
You can see on the back of the book it says "Tome 1" so the creators will probably release an update or sequel or DLC or something similar that would make more books, I don't think storyteller is over just yet.
this game has so much depth but is so short the way the characters have personalities is amazing, like how the baron would push practically anyone off the cliff for fun, or how between edgar, lenora and isobel, isobel is the only one who would poison from only having a broken heart. i just wish there was a teensy bit more content at the end
@@devilbowser253 eh could be waiting a few years for that, if it ever comes- the Dev' started working on Story Teller 13 years back- released the first Demo 3 years back, and released a second demo (THAT WAS ALREADY AS LONG AS THE "COMPLETED" GAME) 2 years back. I suspect he either gave up, or ran outta cash and had to cash in- given how it's turned out.
Yeah, if you saw the end the of the the demo you would know there was a lot of characters that weren’t in the full release. Whether that means more is gonna be added later or they just cut an obscene amount is to be seen. Edit: ok I just rewatched the ending, there is definitely gonna be more content. It says “tome 1” and I don’t think it would say that if they didn’t plan on making more. Still, if they wanted to add more it should’ve been released in early access

Haven't seen it, but this game's version reminds me of my roommate telling me about the first play ever made. It was just two dudes talking on a stage for 3 hours.
@@connordarvall8482 Two possibilities 1. They're describing very early ancient Greek plays 2. They're describing Waiting For Godot and you got Godot'ed
A custom level maker for this game would be awesome and probably really easy to implement. Just let the player choose the scenes, characters, and number of scene slots available, then have them choose one event as the "goal", either auto-generate a title or have the player enter one, and voila instant custom level. It would still probably need a few more characters and scenes to have a thriving community, but a simple modding API to add custom characters and scenes would make it easier on the devs' creativity.
I doubt it'll be easy considering how many new interactions will have to be defined and drawn (for example, EVERY character would need to have a beauty ranking if the mirror scene is available in the editor, and every character needs to have a texture for every situation, etc), but yeah I really hope they add something like this in a future update
I actually kinda like that you think something like that would be easy to implement (when it most likely wouldn't). It means the game fooled you with the "naturality" of its rules. Good job, game
These types of achievements are exactly why I love achievement hunting. Figuring out these weird and obscure achievements is an absolute blast and the martini achievement was absolutely hilarious.
It would be awesome to see this game get an update where people can make their own puzzles with more scenes and characters, sort of like how BTD6 challenges work.
2:55 this was, oddly enough, the only part of the game I was really stuck on, because I cannot for the life of me figure out a solution where hatey WASN'T just protecting his daughter. I can only assume this is actually the only solution and the latter part was just hidden so it wouldn't be as obvious, but if any of you have an idea please tell me 3:26 this puzzle is a reference to the absurdist play "Waiting for Godot", in which 2 men wait for a person who was never going to show up. I had a good chuckle about it when I got to this puzzle.
@@TooFewSecrets Exactly this. If Hatey waits to tell Peachy of their relation until just before she kills him, the scene is recontextualized accordingly.
I played on Switch, so no achievement. But on the last panel story I found you can make the Knight fall in love with the King, refusing the maid. Or heartbroken because the King is straight (has ♀️ icon). Also first time I saw the cage icon if the Queen catches the maid out of her jail, from the bushes.
Fun fact: you can tell a character can do horrible stuff if they have an evil look in their icon instead of a regular look, example: out of edgar, lenora and isobel, if edgar/lenora is heartbroken they will only drink the poison every time, only poisoning the wine when their past lover's ghost had told them they had been poisoned by someone (well at least edgar does, lenora could just be too naive to do that) Meanwhile if isobel is heartbroken she will use the poison and intend it to kill the lover of the one who rejected her. Isobel's icon is her grinning creepily while edgar/lenora's is just them frowning. Its the little things that give hints
I felt some elements were underused as a result of the game's short length too. Like the vampire and the cauldron scene, which are both only used for one puzzle.
Every single video that you upload is looking so quality and every one of em has work into it. When I see you changing your facecam position depending on contents we need to see is a prove of that(reverse tower defence game). Thank you so much for this content, much much love from Turkey.
Hey Tyler! Just thought I'd let you know (though you might already know this if you've been keeping an eye on it) that Storyteller has gotten a new update, with some new elements and a new character! Can't wait to see you puzzle your way through it!
