- Living on board in freezing temperatures has it's own challenges especially when your on a two week quarantine in lockdown! It's all good though, we're getting by and there are still some lovely sights to see.
We briefly showed some shoes in this episode that were kindly given to us by Aleader. We will show them properly when we're out and about in warmer weather! But, we are really impressed with them so far (I hate normal deck shoes as I find even the expensive ones don't grip on the teak) I'm going to use the ones we showed as my deck shoes and the version they have as a proper water shoe that drains (we won't wear socks with them, honest!) as dinghy / going ashore shoes. Keep tuned for how they perform. If you want to look them up now this is there website... www.aleadergear.com/ and you will get a discount with this code... SailingFairIsle15

Steeves dumbbell. It’s used when anchored in shallow water as a spring, when lowered along the anchor chain secured to the boat by its warp to relieve anchor chain snatching, in moderate sea conditions. In the days gone past it was called a ‘lizard’. Jacktar
A lizard! that's a new one on me... add it to the list.... Chum, Angel, Sentinel, Kellet, Anchor ring and now Lizard! Any advances on that!
Hi there , as a fix for the chalky paint , I use awoltra oil . In NZ it is called penatrol . If you read the specs on what it can do , you will be sold. Eg undercoat , rust killer , paint thinner for no brush marks , varnish reviver ,
And brass and bronze sealer . I have used it for years . Read the specs !
Wow that's weird. I just bought a tin of what I assume is the same thing, it's called Owatrol Oil here. I didn't buy it for the gel coat though. I got it for a couple of bits of steel on the engine that are starting to rust. But reading the tin you can use it for wood & all sorts so maybe I'll test it on a patch of gel coat as well, thanks.
Around the World racing takes a unique person. A person with something very special inside.
The empty streets of Venice are mind blowing. I have very much enjoyed your entire series from Venice.
The silver object that Steve has is obviously the baggywrinkle, which connects to the lazyjack, which leads to the mainsail genoa, which ultimately leads to the dunsel! Obvious really. 😂😂😂😂
Arh, that's an idea, should have taken a shot of the baggywrinkles & asked the name, everyone asks us.
@@svfairisle as you have no doubt guessed, I know absolutely nothing about sailing. Just love your videos. 👍
You saw exactly what was happening with that leeward backstay and the mainsail, I am impressed! BTW, Britannia looks to be at the top of her game. I wouldn't bet against England this time out.
I bet Sir Ben would have spotted it much quicker than me! Best chance to get the cup back in more than a century.
Hey Steve, I’m putting a ceramic product on my boat this spring. Coincidentally they make a ceramic product for use on metals, including propellers. It’s called GlideCoat and has been tested on boats in the tough conditions down in Florida here in the US. Consider it for your dorade vents... that corrosion must drive you bonkers!
Thank Brian, I'll look out for that.
I don't think I have ever seen the Grand Canal so clean, the water looked almost crystal clear & a lovely blue colour, normally would it not be a yucky muddy colour? Great video & thanks for sharing ⛵️⛵️⛵️⛵️⛵️
The sailing world news. You guys are rockstars in covering these topics. Love it.
Makes it look like you missed the apocalypse.
First use is to make a trip line by opening the pin and putting your chain in the gap and then letting it fall to the bottom and around the stem, which allows you to pull the anchor at a shallower angle getting it unstuck. Second use I suppose would be to lower it to half the length of the chain, using its weight to achieve a shallower angle and more give when anchored in high winds and seas.
Wow: How many times in a life would that happen? St.Mark's Square so empty and quiet that you can hear the pace of your own footsteps on the stone paving mid day on a Sunday? Glad to see you two well and back to Fair Isle and that the hurlyburly of Brexit did not shanghai you to unknown and unexpected ports. Best wishes for Season 3 / 2021 you two!
Nice episode, Venice and the waterways look extraordinary with no people or boats. Enjoy the peace ⛵️
How wonderful to have all the sight of Venice to yourself. Look at the blue water of the Grand Canal as well.
You went past my favorite hotel to stay at, in Venice the Gritti Palace, The Gondola boat yard is now run against the usual traditions by two sisters. Their father sadly passed away due to cancer. Thanks for showing us Venice in lock down.
I see a 100k plus subscription. Good job both of you 🤩
Thanks for another great video.
I am thinking about winters on a boat now ...🥶. Keep warm. Sunny days are ahead.
Thank you again, from a wet and miserable Kent, for the very interesting tour around Venice. I've not seen any where near all you show us so all very interesting; all the technical stuff and interviews too. I can't get over the lack of people. One advantage I suppose is you don't have to worry about the pick pockets and street sellers, especially around the Ponte dell'Accademia. I remember one poor old chap losing his wallet, all his money and his passport.
Good luck with the weather and all the work you have to do before moving on.
I don't know if you ever watch the 'Adventures of an Old Sea Dog' on Youtubbe but I do. You're the only two sailing channels I do follow. Just recently Barry picked up an award - can't remember if it was UA-cam or Facebook now. Well deserved I think, so I wrote congratulating him but also mentioning for all to see on Facebook the fact that I followed you and how amazing your channel was and so worth watching. I hope that has got you some more subscribers because you deserve them.
Stay safe and well.
Thanks Peter, yes having the place to ourselves does have some advantages and apparently next weeks some restrictions will be lifted and bars & restaurants will be able to open during the day, so might be best of both worlds! We do watch the Old Sea Dog sometimes, I agree he’s great & very nice of you to give us a mention, it is the biggest problem with YT. It’s so big no one will ever find us by searching it has to be on recommendation or just pure luck, so thanks.
Great as always..
That ring is a floating device for your mother in law! Can also be used as anchor weight (not the mother in law) and to recover your stuck anchor (maybe your mother in law if she is fit enough).
Beautiful view of Venice. She is really the "Serenissima" again!
Well done, yes the Ultra anchor ring they call it. beaten to it though I'm afraid!
Brilliant video!
Lekker man lekker
Just binged your "tech corner" videos on your website. Awesome and super interesting content.
Brilliant video. St Mark’s Square was very different when we were there recently (before COID).
Wonderfull video. Congratulation from Spain.
Empty Venice after one year is so scary!
Go safely
Cheers
Nice video
That's a Dog Collar to keep Steve under control! Seriously you have a beautiful Boat and keep it in pristine condition, take care and stay safe
Hahaha 1:30 into the video and already #relatable The condensation was literally dripping off the inside of our hatches and ports this morning. 😀 Make the most of being the only tourists in town.
Don't want to hear that, we want you to tell us about how lovely and warm it is down there and how you never get condensation & have to have the hatches open on the barmy evenings!!! We've booked Turkey for next winter by the way, going to Cesme.
COMPETITION: Our Patreons seemed to find this one quite easy, so I'm going to be tough with you lot! To get the answer right we will need either the actual make (model) of the thing i'm using or the two uses the thing has (and I don't mean as a dumb-bell , that's just my own 3rd use!) The makers of this particular device have designed it to do two things to do with sailing.
That is a huge earring!
I just loved Your chat with Don. I also follow the different races that goes. And I am a big fan of Tapio. He is a real ambassador for sailing in Finland. My home is situated 1km from Baltic Yacht and 2 km from Nautor (Swan).
Yes Tapio is a fantastic sailor and a very nice man. He does so much for young sailors in Finland and will have a young crew on his boat for the OGR. We really enjoyed spending time with him in Les Sables before the GGR and he invited us to his house to see the launch of his boat in the spring. Sadly we couldn't make it which was a real shame, there was still ice on the water when he put her in!
That’s a Ultra Anchor’s ring to dislodge a stuck anchor. I hope I am right then :-D
We need a drum roll!!!! Well done! you got it first. Ultra's 'Anchor ring' used as you say to dislodge a stuck anchor and as a Kellet/Chum/Sentinel depending on where in the world you come from. Good job.
Nothing to do with Prince Albert then.
@@svfairisle I am ordering the ultra anchor so was lucky there I must admit, thanks for the drum roll though 🥳😊 . Chum will do for a scot haha. Great episode as always
@@Lightw81 hahahahaha
How nice to see Don again from GGR. I really love the idea of the GGR as opposed to the vendee globe. Tapio was the winner in my book, a real endurance test for him. Abhilash Tomy had the nicest boat though and an amazing guy. There was an interesting discussion done by Robin Knox Johnston on drouges and he was more in favour of trailing warps instead. Looking forward to GGR 2022.
Glad you liked it Don is always good value! We have the full interview with him that really interesting, going into some more details and lots about the Ocean Globe Race & some of the old classic Swans like Maiden that will be running again. It's with the Patreons at the moment but I will release it to everyone soon.
Oh thanks, that's good to hear.
Got a little tip, it worked on our holiday home, years ago. If you put some washing up liquid on a tissue. Wipe down the glass and it stops the condensation.... Happy New Year!
Interesting, I'll give it a try.
Condensation has to happen somewhere; probably best in place where you can see it!
It's a Kellet, something I've used several times to act as a dampener on the anchor chain in heavy condition but can also be used to reduce your swing circle.
Yes it is. We will be making another anchoring video this season so we will test it out & see how useful it is.
It's 1851, and the UK have never won the America's Cup. At 170 years, Britannia (INEOS) has a chance to break the longest losing streak in the history of sports.
Vended Globe was/is also very interesting.
yes it's a shame they couldn't have the crowds to welcome them back to Les Sables, great finish.
A respectable Prins Albert
Really? i thought it was a bit small!!!
Tip.do your exercises along the pontoon ,not across. If you have even a mild dizzy spell. You’re in the water,!
Hacksaw man. Cheers x
The building on the fondamenta Zattere that reminded you of an Indian restaurant was the headquarters for a passenger and freight shipping company. I had wondered myself about it and found this link. it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adriatica_di_Navigazione#:~:text=L'Adriatica%20di%20Navigazione%20%C3%A8,Fiume%2C%20Zaratina%2C%20Nautica%20di%20Fiume
That’s really interesting, thanks. Is a hotel and cocktail bar now apparently & may actually open now we’ve dropped down from Orange to Yellow zone. Will check it out.
It’s an Ultra Anchor ring used as a Kellet or Chum and also for anchor retrieval.
Dead right Jackie, someone got there before you though.
I thought it was a pirates ear ring!
Not sure but it looks like a traveller for a bow sprite.
Sorry, not right!
Is it a weight that slides down the anchor chain to help hold the chain on the seabed? Great video btw 😊
Is it part of an anchor retrieval system?
Is it an anchor kellet/ ring to weight anchor chain and change the angle half way down for increased holding?
Very interesting about the GGR , didn’t know it was carried out in that format , Vendée Globe ended last night . Nice views of empty Venice , we still in lockdown U.K. , can’t get to our boat
Tough not getting to your boat, I wouldn't cope with that well. Don't fancy getting some plywood and building one of Don's 5.80's then!? There will be a longer version of the interview out at the weekend with don going into details of the Ocean Globe Race (basically the old Whitbread) which sounds amazing too.
Sentinel.
Thanks very much for extremely helpful and entertaining videos. Like very much the combination of boat maintenance tips and sightseeing, all that very professionally done. As I am planning to sail to the med next summer, would you be able to tell me if you have any limitations to your stay (or Fair Isle stay) imposed by the Brexit.
Yes I’m afraid Brexit has made cruising the Med very difficult. The Western med will be next to impossible. We will have some info in upcoming episodes when we know if people are finding ways around things, we’re asking around at the moment. We have Croatia on the doorstep so that helps us, then Turkey ( will will need temp. residency there for the winter, but that was always the case) After that if things don’t improve we will cross the pond sooner that expected
At 13:00 into, right after the high heels clip, the "whaaa-tur" is green instead of brown!
Yes the lack of traffic on the Grand canal it clearing it up nicely
@@svfairisle Might I expand on my comment just a bit further. As one comment below suggests, you two (for good or bad) are seeing a great city in a "once in a life time" situation. So when you are documenting the small bits of a now normal day just going to the store, you are also documenting a small part of the earth during a plaque year(s). The last thing you would chose to do in retirement, but... Who better?
An expensive anchor weight :)
sampson"s shackle
Great to see another video. :) Im still waiting to go back to mine in Conway, which Ive not been able to get to since early September . Hopefully its still there. Made worse by the Marina thinking its ok to raise its fees 5% this year.... What would we do without a trusty webasto/eberspacher in winter? I remember the halcyon (and cold) days before they even existed. Watching the sailing and racing blogs is a great way to while away the hours and days till our next adventure. Fair winds, David.
Yes the Webasto's great! I remember days as a teenager on my fathers boat in the snow when we had a diesel stove in the saloon, which was toasty warm, but the rest of the boat was an icebox!
@@svfairisle it must have been a similar era. My father had one of those diesel heaters fitted to a bulkhead with an open flame and grill (no fan). No doubt would be condemned today with CO emissions in the cabin..
Socks and jandals ;;its the Kiwi way;;
Catenary weight for the anchor
That wouldn’t be a rather flashy neck pillow would it 😂😂😂
It would be a bit chilly at the moment, not to mention heavy! I do have what I though was a tiny wooden stool somewhere though, that I bought in a market in China, that an antique expert told me later was actually a 13th century pillow!
Tapio Lehtinen🇫🇮💪👍
Love Tapio, Look out for the full interview with Don at the weekend, we have a clip we filmed with Tapio on there.
looks like a giant ear-ring
Is the ‘dumbell’ some form of kedge addition for assisting the anchor / chain stay down for heavy swell?
Brilliant video of St Marks - when I was there you couldn’t move across any bridge for selfie takers yuk!
Keep safe.
Yes it's a unique view of Venice thats for sure. Close on the answer, but I'm being strict this week!
That ring is a divorced wife swimming necklace!
It’s so great to be able to follow your journey and start dreaming and planning for my own future sailing adventures. It looks really nice to spend the winter in Venice, like you do. I know that you where on anchor earlier, in Spain, but now you are in a harbour. What costs per month should a calculate staying in a harbour during winter?
We will try and do a video on costs as lots of people ask. Fair isle is an expensive boat in harbour as it length overall and we have a 9 foot bow sprit. So 57feet (17 meters) means a winter berth is somewhere in the region on 3-4 thousand Euros for 6 months (Oct-March) There are cheaper ways of doing it and MUCH more expensive ways too. Actually though it's not the winter rates that will kill you it's the summer rates. If you need to go into a marina in high season some places will charge over €1,000 for one night! I kid you not. Normally you would be looking at €120-170 / night in the summer, but some places just take the p!$$! Making sure you're good to stay at anchor is the key, one of the reasons I'm big on anchoring technique. It's not a bad thing though, you will find anchoring is preferable to marinas every time.
Thanks for sharing your experience. The videos regarding anchoring and anchor chains covers a lot of knowledge hard to find elsewhere. I will use it to find a new anchor myself for the next season. The goal is to learn and trust spending a night at anchor.
Another fantastic video, thank you so much for sharing. It must be so bizarre to see Venice empty. One questions regarding the Visa rules. Are you only allowed to spend 90 days in Italy and then have to go to a non-EU country for 90 days to re-start the process for the Visa or can you get a longer cruising Visa. I think it's all a bit confusing but Yachting monthly has a good article on it in their January issue. As to your Dumbell, it looks like a weight for the anchor chain perhaps to lower the angle of the chain to the seabed but a guess. :)
Yes it's certainly a unique view of Venice at the moment! And yes we must leave Italy (well the EU) before April 4th as that's 90 days since our passports were stamped coming back in after xmas. We will go to Croatia for 90 days after. Good try with the quiz question, but I need more!!!
A quick question, are there any restrictions to taking your dinghy through the canals of the city. I've been to Venice, an enchanting and magical place, but it did leave me wondering how cool it would be to explore in my own dinghy!
Yes and no! It really is as clear as that!! Several locals have tried to explain but even they dont really know or agree! There are 3 bodies that regulate. Basically if you try and go to the area between St Marks and the Grand canal you will almost certainly be stopped, and probably fined. You should have a licence inside the city centre (a number on your boat) which is easy to get apparently, but we were told not to bother with the canals away from the centre. Where we filmed was St Helena which is fine also the outlying islands like Burano are fine, so we're looking forward to going to our lovely anchor spot off Burano and taking the dinghy in when we finally get our new outboard. Oh and it helps to have an electric outboard apparently, there are less restrictions, but no-one really know what. Except for the people who say it's nothing to do with electric, just below 20BHP is okay... you get the picture!
Its a giants ear ring.
Hola !!
One question I've always wanted to ask is what do you do to avoid birds doing their business on the deck, or even worse, on the canvas of the boat?
The key is trying to stop there being places for them to roost. If you look at the 'jobs up the mast' video you'll see what we have on top. That was great for stopping the starlings in Eastbourne who were a complete menace in the autumn as they eat the blackberrys and have poo thats black and wont come off the teak! In Chichester the problem was swallows but they can perch on the standing rigging so there's no stopping them! Luckily it's only motorboats that suffer the real mess that seagulls make, their big flappy feet mean the dont like sailboats so much.
I think its an Anchor “Angel” to act line a bridle to dampen the catenary.
Yes it is an Angel - Chum - Kellet - Sentinel or any other of the names that this bit of kit has has... BUT it's not the name this one has been given, i'm being strict!
@@svfairisle Fair enough, I’ll have to leave that tp those with more detailed knowledge on this, keep well and safe, love the videos.
Hi guys, thank you for another fabulous video. Amazing to see it so quiet, I know Italy, like Spain has started to reintroduce tighter restrictions but to have the whole square to yourself? WOW!
Question, how are you getting by with the non EU citizen restrictions? I think it's the ninety day rule or something and then on top of that no movement because of CV19.
Fair Isle is looking amazing I must say, all down to the hard work you both put in, in your own ways.
Well I'll look forward to your next vid, stay safe both, regards Spain
We have to leave before April, our passports were stamped coming back after Xmas so the 90 day clock is ticking. We have Croatia that non Schengen to go to so that’s okay. If we were still in the Western med we would be screwed, unless something changes leaving the Med will be tricky!
@@svfairisle ooh, good luck with that. Don’t here much about Croatia these days, I’ve been there quite a few times for work reasons but was also able to enjoy large parts of the country when I had time off, take care guys enjoy😎
Why would you be surprised the wealthy shops are open? Those with money play by different rules...
How are you getting around the 90/180 days restriction?
Were leaving the EU before April!
Anchor Angeles
I'm interested, where are you from? I'm just trying to work out if Chum, Angel, Sentinel, Kellet are interchangeable everywhere or if different parts of the world use different terms. I've always known them as Kellets. Of course this one from Ultra hasn't used any of those terms and calls it an 'Anchor Ring!"
@@svfairisle hi Steve me and Carol are big fans and planned to sail to Portugal this season and onto the med so your videos are very useful. We are in the U.K. always new them as anchor angel’s currently sail out of Plymouth on a lovely Finngulf 391
Just love your boat. Never seen any good come from yoga. No different than stretching exercises we did at physical therapy. People love their fads. Just think if yoga was so healthy the Indian people wouldn’t need healers and all the gross concoctions they make up. Yoga is more about the worship of the demon gods than healing according to the information I researched. Anyway whatever makes people happy and your channel does that. Thank you.
Hello there F.I..
Is it possible to go slightly dieper in how managing the cold on board in Venice? So your Webasto is pumping hot H2O around in radiators and there are also hot air mouth's operation? When Venice temperature is around 3-5°C: on board 10-12°C? Seems like F.I. has indeed a good inside insulation. Thx and keep floating! Trawler Revenant from Breskens harbor.
Yes the webasto heats water which is pumped around the boat, the radiators are like mine ones you would find on a car for cooling. They're mounted in boxes which have a fan blowing through them out to the vents in the cabins. Fair Isle also has vents in some of the wardrobes and ALL the cupboards have louvered doors. This is very important. Air flow in those spaces is a must or you will get condensation, mildew and mould. We can keep Fair Isle at 20 degrees inside very easily even when it,s -10 out side as we had in Holland
@@svfairisle 20°C at minus 10? Well, consider F.I. as really good vessel for wintertime!
Thanks to BREXIT dilivery of any goods coming from the UK take longer, no change for Amazon
As a Kiwi living in Italy I get alot of stuff via English language UK websites, including ebayUK and AmazonUK. The postman now collects import duties before handing over packages from UK. I saw a BBC article a week ago where some UK high street stores are considering burning stockpiles of stuff in Europe that has been returned to UK sender after customers reject paying the tax. Its a shame because for the last 10 years getting stuff into Italy from UK was often faster delivery and likely 5-10% cheaper. Brexit has also meant that my UK based domain name registry service will no longer provide for me in Europe! So I have a month to change registrars on a handful of domain names. Its complicating things alright. Cheers
Prince Albert upgrade ring? :0
It weighs 24lbs so you might be in need of a bit of Viagra to make that work ;)
p.s. The dumbbell is a repurposed chastity belt 🤪
Kellet?
I have a question. It may too personal, in which case feel free to just ignore it. The question is; now that you are living aboard a mobile address, how do you invoice, if and when you do any freelance work?
We use Judys mothers address. You’re right in that things are much easier if you have an address you can use so it’s best to find a family member. My father used my address for many years when he was sailing
@@svfairisle Thanks very much for the response, that's really appreciated. Does any of this give you any problems with the HMRC etc?
@@arkadybron1994 No, you have to pay tax somewhere and we do that in the UK as that's our postal address, even the money from You Tube has to have your tax details for them to pay you. It would probably be possible to choose another country with a lower rate to pay tax in but we haven't bothered, we don't make that much!
hi enjoy your video's. I'm really interested if you could explain how you are managing to work around the laws since Brexit, ie 90 in 180 days. Any information most welcome, kind regards David
We will do a whole piece on it when we know more, we are gathering real life information from sailors in different places in the Med to see what their experiences are, but obviously until we're 90 days into this year we won't know exactly how strict different countries will be i.e. wether they make it easy for extensions / temporary residency. I don't think any country can ignore the 90/180 day rule as it's EU law.
@@svfairisle many thanks for a prompt response. I'm sure that you are aware of the EU retaliation is growing by the day. Covid vaccine supply to name but one concern. Be safe and ensure that you leave enough time to exit from EU waters. Personally I feel absolutely gutted, as for the last 35 years I have enjoyed the sailing "freedom " travelling the med. Looks like more time in the carribean! Fair winds to you both, kind regards David.
A bowsprit traveller?
You're the second person to say that, but wrong i'm afraid!
@@svfairisle Shame - but not a bad effort from a sheep farmer?
Is that a Hans Christian 38, or 40 ?
They don’t make a 40. She’s a 48T 57 foot overall with the bowsprit
@@svfairisle A beast then. Fair winds !
Ultra kellet?
Spot on, but they call it an anchor ring, everyone has their own name for this bit of kit it seems
Anchor Angel?
Angel!.... I knew there was another word - Sentinel, Chum, Kellet. Yes of course you're right, but someone's already got it spot on, this ones an' Ultra Anchor Ring!'
@@svfairisle Yes, I think I learned that from a book called "Staying Put" which is on the boat, which is in France...and I can't get to it. Bah!
By the way, have you thought about the VAT status of Fair Isle? Some of us have letters from our marina stating that our boats were in France on Brexit day thus giving us EU TVA paid status.
Well Fair Isle was in Spain on Brexit and Italy for Brexit implementation and the VAT was initially paid in Holland (whatever that means!) but frankly I don't think we will be bringing her back to the UK .
15:45 Yeah Brexit has ruined many Brit lifestyles. I used to tour with a motorhome but given up since losing freedom of movement between countries and making green card insurance extremely difficult. My only "touring" now is via UA-cam and I enjoy your boating vids.
Hello My name is Alfredo I would like you to put a translator, Spanish please Thank you
Great videos, thank you. I believe you alluded in a previous one to the possibility of cruising to Turkey to manage the EU post Brexit visa constraints. Turkey is a great area for sailing but they have pretty stiff regulations for black and grey waters. Can you elaborate on your grey waters management capability. Are you already equipped or do you plan an upgrade? Thanks in advance.
Hi Patrick, yes we've heard lots of good things about Turkey. I hadn't heard about the regs for grey water. Of course we have holding tanks for black water, but the shower and sinks go straight overboard.
@@svfairisle It appears grey water discharge is prohibited in Turkish waters, but implementation and controls are fuzzy. You may google search an excerpt from Rod Heikell Turkish waters pilot on this topic . I dont know whether it is a serious constraint or not. I just know I dont have a grey water tank on my catamaran in Greece!
@@patrickliot2 thanks, I’ll look into it.
If you go to Turkey dont forget to NOT tie your boat to any trees. there are stiff penalties for doing that, eg tying stern too eg of one of the islands near Gocek/Fethiye.
That's very good information, thanks. I do have thick padding that I use so not to damage the bark on a tree when we do that, but if there's a blanket ban I will make sure I stick to using rock!
Great Britain never won the cup. You just bought the bottomless can. It was basically, an easy race. You invited the Americans who had to cross the ocean in their racing boat. While you could develop a much faster boat. Well, there was no second and the rest is history.
Well as i said in the film you guys will have earned it if you can come back from an almost sunk boat to regain the cup. But the last time you won it was completely down to borrowing Ben Ainslie. Team Oracle were down and out before he came on board and won it for you. Now he has a British team to sail for so I think you've got your work cut out. We will see!
@@svfairisle You have to admit, that the story about the British role in the America's Cup ist hilariously funny. A joke at your expense. But I thought that's part of the famous British humor. I am from Austria and nobody from Austria will ever sail an AC Boat. Strangely enough we are good in olympic multihull racing, namely Nacra 17 and Tornado. But my fingers are crossed for both European teams, I admire Sir Ben Ainslie for what he has done for the sailing sport. But the more important thing is that the cup comes home to Europe. Especially after the legal debacle back in 2010, that took it away from us all.
By the way, I love your channel and I think it's currently the best sailing channel out there. Would love to see a weekly video. 👍
Ha! yes I think the British sense of humour failed when the Yanks upstarts took the cup back to New York Yacht club. British yacht clubs can be rather pompous, I've never cared for them much, so they could probably have done with taking down a peg or two! I agree it would be nice for Europe to get the cup, the Italians are passionate about it here, well they're passionate about most thing, but particularly this!
