I was a fairly new Air Traffic Controller back then. The boss came to the tower and told me a film crew would be coming and that I would need to brief two pilots on where they could perform the aerobatic demonstration. I remember think ing that I used to listen to his music and watch on telly as a kid and now I’m giving him instruction on where to fly. It never got better. This was a highlight. He was a professional. 4:55
Yes I was Blessed to do that Flight with Gary who is the Most Devoted Bloke to His Fans that I have ever seen! Thanks to Fergus Dudley of Radio one for Setting the Flight up and Gary who smiles a lot when He is not on Camera !
I met Gary Numan at RAF Swanton Morley air show in 1993 ish. He was an absolute gentleman. No airs or graces at all. It was the day before, (practice day). I was in the motorbike display team. He was like every other person that came over to watch. My wife was changing our toddlers nappy. She handed him a fully loaded nappy to him and asked if he can dispose of it. No questions asked. Off he went and put it in the nearest bin. My missus almost fainted when she found out she handed a poo riddled nappy to her teenage idol!
I remember when VH1 said that he flies planes but the failed to say that he still did music! I learned on my own that he was still doing music when I saw his name featured in the Dark City soundtrack, and heard my song "Down in the Park" in the Goth Collection called This is Goth. After hearing that song, I became a fan looking for more of his music and found tons of albums that he did since "Cars". I saw his concerts and they are like Nine Inch Nails on Steroids.
I was lucky enough to meet Gary when flying into Badminton and he's a nice guy, everything I hoped he would be. Seems like yesterday, but it was back in the 1980s eek! ✌️👍😀💜
Are you kidding me?? Gary Fucking Numan flying a single engine like it's nothing?? I should not be surprised but damn! That guy never ceases to amaze me.
wow.. not seen this interview for a long time! i was on school holidays when this was on tv and i stayed in and recorded this on my dads VCR... tape is long lost unfortunately........ thanks for sharing 👌
Great to see Gary flying a Harvard trainer. My dad trained RAF fighter pilots in these as an RCAF flight instructor with the Commonwealth Air Training Plan programme in Canada during WW II. They are not very forgiving to fly!
He had quite a few top ten hits plus 3 number 1 selling Albums. It's just his first couple of singles hit number 1 and became huge classics. Even now 40 years later his last two albums - Savage and intruder are brilliant and defining.
@PIRTEKM3 Ironically Rob Brydon has also had a hair transplant, look up rob brydon bald on google and youll see, then watch him today on would i lie to you and his hair is thick as ever!
for all the crap gary has taken over the years, you still have to give him respect for his air display skills. music was not the best period of course, but machine and soul is still worth a listen despite its detractors
Gary belongs to a secret club that's shrouded in mystery, no he's not a member of the iluminati. It's called The Hair Club For Men. Now he can swim drive a convertable and even fly a plane. All the time having a full head of his own hair, taken from his scrotal area and arm pits.
I heard he was trying to get radio play and mostly trying to pay off debts. Then his wife convinced him to go for an industrial sound for his next album (very reminiscent of Nine inch nails who ironically was influenced by numans album Telekon)
@@awesomemantm2000 Yes, Sacrifice was amazing because of that revival, but I personally think his first step forward after many years was his Dream Corrosion Tour in 1993; Gemma also inspired him to look deep into his catalog and find the best stuff, leading to one of his best live shows ever! It was the first time he played Noise Noise and Jo the Waiter, which is her favorite song by him!
That's the worst hair "system" I've seen. Looks like a weave of the remnants of his hair transplants and some artificial hair. Some years later he abandoned it or it all just fell out and now he's taken to wearing the world's worst wig. Poor Gary and his hair, he never could get it right. He needs to see the bloke who did the wig For Elton John, instead of wearing that dead cat on his bonce like he is now.

Gary is so humble.
He is a legend.
He certainly is !
The press hammered him in the 80s I was lucky to see him live in Dublin recently to say he was fabulous would be an understatement...
Yes I was Blessed to do that Flight with Gary who is the Most Devoted Bloke to His Fans that I have ever seen! Thanks to Fergus Dudley of Radio one for Setting the Flight up and Gary who smiles a lot when He is not on Camera !
I never tire of watching this footage, Numan is a humble genius 🖤

Here in my plane.
Gary Numan can pilot! Amazing! Both these guys have aged really well!!!
One wears a wig, the other has had a good hair transplant. Does that count as ageing well?
I guess if both are still alive and have good health they have aged well.
@@emmetdonnelly2072 When people use that phrase they are referring to looks though.
Rob Brydon was 26/27 here. Tough paper round.
Who cares about his hair, he is a great bloke, brilliant pilot and musician.
Monty 1 thank you, I totally agree. Just leave Gary alone.
Faith No More name drop at 3:50. Nice one Gary!!
I saw Gary in concert 1 1/2 years ago in NYC; awesome.
Awesome, go Gary
Please come back to Pittsburgh soon,we miss spending time with you and Jemma
Goodness, is there no end to Mr Numan's talent ?
Seems like hes a totally down to earth guy "no pun intended" :)
hi i seen this awhile ago thanks for listing this brill stuff numan does cheers

Great memories the old vhs
Let's no forget that the interviewer (Rob Brydon), has also now had a hair transplant.
Great to see Gary flying a Harvard trainer. My dad trained RAF fighter pilots in these as an RCAF flight instructor with the Commonwealth Air Training Plan programme in Canada during WW II. They are not very forgiving to fly!
funnily enough Rob Brydon had a hair job too, both these guys are on the same level haha
Norman Lees died a few years ago. Very sad he was a true gentlemen.
People who mock others are either bitter or jealous. Which one are you?
Peace ✌️ out
Both , love gary though , what a nice man
erm why they playing cars when hes flyin a plane ? shouldnt they of played the instumental Airline by Numan , never mind .
Or even Airlane.
Best two-hit wonder EVAR!
Choco Manger he's not a two hit wonder you fool. What about 'This Wreckage', 'We are Glass', I die: you die', 'She's got claws', 'Complex' etc..
He had quite a few top ten hits plus 3 number 1 selling Albums. It's just his first couple of singles hit number 1 and became huge classics. Even now 40 years later his last two albums - Savage and intruder are brilliant and defining.
glad to know that gary appreciated faith no more.
Is that a Japanese Mitsubishi "Zero" the plane he was flying, interesting WWII plane.
well Rob Brydon hasnt aged at all!
Only problem is he looked 57 then too
loool young rob brydon
Music For Chameleons is a great track.
Nothing worse than seeing Gary playing there like a pub rock band - interesting interview
It's Biggles for the 90s!
Does he still fly ?
No., his wife made him give it up. Many acrobatic pilots get killed.
Gary "boyington" Numan !!
@PIRTEKM3 Ironically Rob Brydon has also had a hair transplant, look up rob brydon bald on google and youll see, then watch him today on would i lie to you and his hair is thick as ever!
mmm he had a hair tranplant in 1983 wonder if he had it done again as he has more hair now then he did on this show ??
@fergusil just buy all of his albums you wont regret it!
Is there anything he cant do? (:
I like the hair/wig he's got now compared to here. If I go bald, I want a Numan (the one he has now as I write this).
Chuck Norris' rules 💪
👍👍😉🇮🇪
Weird syrup
for all the crap gary has taken over the years, you still have to give him respect for his air display skills. music was not the best period of course, but machine and soul is still worth a listen despite its detractors
and now he's back with all the respect he deserved for all these years!
Yep he had another hair transplant in 1994
he has a nice wig today
He was balding badly in 1992 now In 2019 he's got more thick jet black hair
It’s called a wig, he wears it well and takes 20 years off of him -so fair play to him I say

N Knighton shut up, idiot.
Nah it's just a glued on wig.
This is funny because it's known now that this was Gary's worst period for music. He has said the worst thing he ever did was Machine+Soul ....
I heard he was trying to get radio play and mostly trying to pay off debts. Then his wife convinced him to go for an industrial sound for his next album (very reminiscent of Nine inch nails who ironically was influenced by numans album Telekon)

Rob is very annoying there.
Nooooo.....that's not Gary .... Gary has thick black hair.

I thought you were talking about Rob Brydon for a moment there.
it's real hair he has now
Shallow biotch.
It's even worse now. Completely fake hair. I'd love to be a fly on the wall and watch him take it off lol.
@@video2000_TV No it isn't.
whoa, whats up w his hairline? its different everytime ...
Just fuck off and leave people alone.
glad to know that gary appreciated faith no more.
