    I just bought a schlage L9080 Mortise lock and the parts came with 1 spring cage and 1 spacer block --- not 2 spring cages to be installed on this model.
    I appreciate your video because i had a problem installing this lock due to a metal door having a thickness under 1 3/4" thickness. The brass post were extending 1/4" past the inside portion of the door which resulted in not having a tight fitting lock - the lock was loose. your video has help me solve that problem. Cheers Brent

    Thanks. I lost the key to this door years ago. I never had a problem walking around, but always wondered why I couldn't unlock the outside. I was curious and decided to fidget with it today. I'm going to see about rekeying the cylinder in the next week.

    HI Richard
    Great Video but doesn't the springcage part go onto the inside lever handle since the outside handle assembly is rigid. I thought the springcage was installed on the movable handle side.

    I was patiently waiting for your demonstration of how to change the lock type from fail secure to fail safe, but either I didn't pay attention well enough or you didn't show it. :(

      You are correct in the latter. This is a non-electrified lock.

    Can you do a tutorial on L9453 please

  • @absupplynet
    @absupplynet  11 років тому +1

    for sure it does but you would still have two spring cages for the lock. Any other clarifications let me know.

    What model would I use if I wanted a non-locking handle that was previosly a storeroom lock? 9010, got it.

    • @absupplynet
      @absupplynet  3 роки тому

      The passage function of the Schlage L9000 would be the l9010 as seen here
      absupply.net/schlage-l9010-06a-passage-function-mortise-lock-14170.aspx
      If you're going to remove that storeroom lock from the door and convert it to a passage function he will certainly need to purchase the mortise cassette only however you also need a dummy cylinder to fill in that hole that has been prepped for the keyed cylinder on the secured side of the door.

    I have a question I have the lock installed but when I engage the lock and pull handle down from outside it still unlocks?? Is it the lock bolt? I just watched this video and am gonna check the bolt on them to make sure it's on the inside... I have one that works and 2 that won't stay locked..

    Hi Dave! Thanks for the helpful video. I’m on a job now where I’m installing these same locksets, and am consistently having the same two problems on each one that I do- hoping you might have some ideas. The first thing is that the interior-side handle has very wimpy “spring-up” action when I turn it. The second thing is none of my cylinders function when I screw them in. I’ve tried it with and without the spacer collar and wave washer. Any ideas you may have would be hugely appreciated!!

      Regarding the spring, does the interior spring cage work when you install it on the exterior side? Regarding the cylinder, can you tell me what cam you have installed on the back of the mortise cylinder?

    Hi! Is it possible to have the inside lever inoperative? We changed our mind and we would like both side to be always lock. Thank you,

    • @absupplynet
      @absupplynet  4 роки тому

      It is indeed possible to have both sides of the lockset rigid with trim that would not operate the lockset. Before proceeding with this type of modification consider how you would operate the lock from the egress side of the opening as this type of lock, known as an Institutional type lock (review the ANSI F30 function) whose operational description would be - Latchbolt retracted by key from either side, Knob/lever on both sides always inoperative, Auxiliary latch deadlocks latchbolt when door is closed, would certainly be a violation of code for almost all occupancy types with the exception of most notably Detention and Correction type occupancies.

    Thanks for the quick response! unfortunately already did that and the case still opens freely from outside when deadbolt thrown.. seems the push button rocker at bottom is major functioning issue/ Help.. Im volunteering at a pet rescue and need to get this place locked up correctly. any ideas would be appreciated.. emailed calroyal but haven't heard back as yet.. may of been a good idea to do it before closing? hahahah.. oh well funtimes. Thanks again

      The hubs need to be reversed inside the lock body. These are the two stacked items that the spindle(s) pass through. The problem you have when change from an inswing (RH) to an outswing (LHR) the now eveterior lever/knob will always operate. Remove the lock case reverse the order of the hubs, replace case and test operation. I do not have a Cal-Royal lock body here to make a video of - sorry.

    How do i remove the handles on the L9080?

    • @absupplynet
      @absupplynet  3 роки тому

      You will use a spanner wrench on the inside stem that will permit you to get the inside lever off at which point you can gain access to the screws that hold the exterior trim on. The spanner wrench I'm referring to is the Schlage 021415 Spanner Wrench For L-Series Locks and can be seen here
      absupply.net/schlage-021415-spanner-wrench-for-l-series-locks.aspx
      and the Installation instructions can be seen here:

    Can this door lock be configured to unlock and stay unlocked?

    • @absupplynet
      @absupplynet  5 років тому

      this is no way to leave the L9080 lock set to stay unlocked from the ingress side of the lock.

    If the levers are round instead of flat is it still the same model number?

    • @absupplynet
      @absupplynet  3 роки тому

      it is not. The 03 is a common round, tubular lever design. Post a photo of the lever you are matching and we will advise the part number.

    • @absupplynet

    • @absupplynet

      The proper way would be to replace the mortise cassette with a passage function though having said this you could modify the interior of that mortise cassette such that it never locked.
