Yngwie is a pioneer, he influenced many guitarists.
Yes!
Too often forgotten.
Be ready to have your minds blown
I love that he starts with Bach and flows into the next part so fluidly.
Certainly one of the greatest players in the past 50 years. Steve Vai calls Yngwie a "freak of nature", and he's not wrong. Heavily influenced by classical music, he pioneered the Neo-Classical style and certainly inspired many young guitarists in the 80s to improve their playing. He's still touring as well.....worth the effort to see the show....he always has one heck of a stack or Marshalls (old school!).
thats quite a compliment considering how good Steve Vai also is
Rolling Stone left him out of their 250 Greatest Guitar Players of All Time. They are idiots.
@@tan-jello That list was an absurd embarrassment. They left out MANY of the most influential guitarists of all time, like Guthrie Govan, Allan Holdsworth, Paul Gilbert, Gary Moore(!!!! HOW?!?), Paco De Lucia (ALSO HOW!?), it goes on and on.
Gary Moore??!! Hahahaha how? Just how?
There are literally hundreds of guitarist better than him. Probably thousands. He is known for his style, writing, flare, and personality, not his technical skills.
Yngwie is the father of modern Neoclassical. He is one of the reasons I picked up a guitar some 40 years ago.
not father but one of the first, very influenced by Uli John Roth
What you two are saying, “father of neoclassical” and “influenced by”, are both correct but also completely insulting.
You guys think anyone from Paco de Lucia, Yngwie Malmsteen, Vai, Becker, Andres Romero,... would have existed if it wasn’t for Joaquin Rodrigo and the place he gave this low level instrument (back then) into his music?
Or Bach himself, or the plagiarist Vivaldi, or the first Metal Head Nicolo Paganini...
But then again can’t be Malmsteen be Malmsteen? Or are you guys the ones who claim “everything sounds like Maiden”?? (Manowar, Queensryche, etc)
I can’t believe I hear men say these things, but I think you are entitled to say them... for good or wrong.
I just wish people study more about this beautiful thing called music
@@RebeccaCampbell1969 Clearly you don't know anything about Yngwie, his primary influence was Paganini, second would be Bach. Yes, he is the father of "modern neoclassical" which is a guitar style that he pioneered. After him came Becker, Stump, etc.
First time I ever saw Yngwie Malmsteen was in the early 80s when he was the lead guitar player for a band named Steeler. It was at the Country Club, in Reseda California. I’ll never forget during his solo he used my Heineken bottle as a slide. I was a very young kid at that time. I had some great times at that place during the 80s. Great guitar player and fun to see live. Great reaction.👏👏👏👏🤙🤙🤙🤙
Truly miss the 70's/80's W&R's Country Club daze!
Yngwie (ing - vei) Malmsteen is a Swedish guitarist considered to be one of the innovators of neo-classical rock/metal guitar. In his early years he was influenced by classical composers such as Italian violinist Pagannini and Johann Sabastian Bach, as well as rock guitarist Richie Blackmore from Deep Purple/Rainbow. 😃🎸🎸🎸🎸
And Vivaldi
And Uli Jon Roth - Aldimeola
Uli Jon Roth lol....bet he regrets this now@@Nissardpertugiu
@@psionic6126 Uli is a fan of Yngwie
Its 'Ing-weee' get it right
Pronounced ing vay, one of thE best guitarists in the world. He’s considered neoclassical 🔥 from Sweden 🇸🇪
Every solo he plays is never the same because he thinks that only the greats can do that. Improvise the solo, put on a great show and never stop improving your studies. ❤
Ingwie is a Legend has been for decades since like he marched out in 1985
Malmsteen is a beast on the guitar and with Jens Johansson on keyboards who is phenomenal player, they've put on amazing shows!
I think Jens was long gone at this point. I remember seeing Yngwie open for Dio in NYC back in the day around the time Jens joined Dio. It was weird seeing him not playing with Yngwie. Lol. Also, I was at a drum clinic in NYC (I believe it was at Cooper Union) around the same time and met both Jens and Anders Johansson and got their autographs!
Got to see Yngwie live about a month ago, dude opened up with Rising Force, it was a fucking rager of a show. Legendary guitarist and showman
The keyboard player here is mats olausson.
Most people have no clue who Yngwie is. I think EVH and Yngwie are number 1 and 2 for best guitarist ever.
No Doubt.... 1 EDDIE VAN HALEN..... 2 Yngwie Malmsteen...... Don t forgetting the BIG Randy Rhoads too 🙏
@@PedroSilva-fw1zv Blackmore, Hendrix, Uli joh roth, Yngwie
It’s a close second between him and Blackmore, but yeah EVH and then Malmsteen.
@@danleal3303 iit depend what criteria you put in,whe n we talk about feelingBlackmore best, when we talk about play fast we have som many as malmsteen, Vai and EVH etc
1. Malmsteen 2. Randy Rhoads 3. EVH
The way you pronounce Yngwie is - Ing Vay The songs Id recommend are Far Beyond the Sun and Icarus' Dream both studio. They are from the same album (Rising Force") as this song, Yngwie Malmsteen's first album.
Or just Yngve In Norwegian 👍
Been listening to Yngwie since 1986. When it comes to his style of playing, he is second to none.
Guys this is EPIC ON ANOTHER LEVEL OF GUITAR PLAYING...MALMSTEEN IS THE BEST GUITARIST IN THE WORLD ...CHECKOUT ...FAR BEYOND THE SUN
YJM's greatest accomplishment was "Concerto Suite for Electric Guitar and Orchestra in E-flat minor, Op. 1", period.
Musically, I'd agree, ESPECIALLY his live performance of it (with some additions) with the the New Japan Philharmonic back in 2002. That was peak Yngwie for me, and is an hour and fifteen minute jaw dropping spectacle of total mastery and synchronicity with an exceptionally talented orchestra and conductor. However, the album itself doesn't have quite the same effect, for me anyway. It's still excellent, and the Czech Philharmonic on that recording was great, but the recording itself just cannot compare to the live performance. It just didn't hit me like Rising Force or Trilogy, or even Eclipse, The Seventh Sign or Alchemy. But that performance in 2002... it was just insane.
I wondered when you would find Yngwie, he is an incredible player in the early 1980’s he came over to America and his style is called Neoclassical
11:48 looks at his wrist to see the time "oh shit! My watch must've fallen off while flicking my guitar around so much...oh well" ....& countinues playing like a boss
His guitar’s are specially scalloped, that’s how he gets those amazing reverbs. He’s a legend. Been listening to him since he was 16 in Steeler. Listen to Steeler intro to the track Hot on your Heels. Wow
Scalloped necks doesn't produce reverb. He scallops the necks to get the effect of having super tall frets because he's got very big and thick fingers and it allows him to get under the strings to bend.
@kevinunger433 wrote: _"that’s how he gets those amazing reverbs"._
I think you mean to say, "that's how he gets that amazing vibrato". Yes, a scalloped fretboard neck guitar helps with vibrato as well as bends...however, Yngwie would still have his amazing vibrato and complete control/command of string bending and pitch...with a bog standard guitar fretboard.
Born in '63 and recording the Steeler album in '82 he was about 19.
@@Chester_Cheese Yeah, the way Yngwie describes it, it's like having super tall frets (the frets being the wire, NOT the gaps between them. People often get that wrong, though I'm not implying you did.) On top of scalloping, he also replaces the standard Strat frets (which are normally quite thin and pretty short) with super jumbo frets, in addition to having a really high action (distance between the strings and fretboard). All of that combines to provide extreme control of each note and perfectly clarity and sustain, since none of the higher frets can attenuate the vibration of the strings. A properly set-up guitar shouldn't do this anyway, but with the way he plays, I'm positive he'd have fret buzz issues on more standard setups. He was inspired to do this when he was a teenager working for a luthier shop in Sweden and someone brought in something like a baroque lute that had a scalloped fretboard with integral frets (very uncommon for an actual lute, so it may have actually been a different but related instrument, he described it as a lute)
@@Chester_Cheese Yes, and dumb people from UA-cam think it's easier lool they forget good intonation comes from your ears and not from your fingers. if you can't bend in tune or if you have a shitty vibrato on regular necks don't expect to be great in scallops necks. Sorry for my english.
ブラックスターの武道館バージョンは最高です🎸
Yngwie is a fan of Italian classical violinist Antonio Vivaldi (1678 to 1741)-- so much so that he named his son Antonio in his honor.
Yngwie is a neoclassical guitarist with major skills and a huge ego to match. No doubt a great guitarist.
He is also a huge fan of Niccolo Paganini. If you get a chance, watch Sam Nunn's Metal Evolution the classical episode which I think is episode #1.
@@williamyates694 I saw it. It was a good episode.
They say anyone in the world can step out on to their front porch any time of the day and see his ego...it is that big.
Yngwie changed the game.🍻
BEST DAY EVER FOR THIS CHANNEL
Yngwie is one of the very best. Got introduced to him by my dad who is a huge fan when I was about 10yo. Been mesmerized by him ever since.
I am in awe of his talent and his technical skill.. he’s almost perfect. And yet….and yet…..He does not reach my soul. Total intellectual appreciation. No emotional connection. I speak only for myself.
You're not the only one.
Pronunciation: Ing vee Maahlmsteen.
1 of the great virtuoso guitarists of the 1980s.
Strongly 💪 suggested video 📹: Joe Lynn Turner and Yngwie Malmsteen perform Heaven Tonight live.
I feel like playing the guitar with his tongue and his teeth is definitely something he would’ve picked up from Jimi Hendrix, even though he claimed the only thing he saw from Jimi Hendrix was him setting his guitar on fire so he used to do that on stage as well.
Guy is one of the best for the last 40years. Came from a band called Alcatraz. Steve Vai also came from Alcatraz. The lead singer was of Alcatraz was Graham Bonnet who sang for Rainbow. Rainbows guitarist was Ritchie Blackmore from Deep Purple, who Yngwie idolizes. One of Yngwie singers in his solo stuff was Joe Lynn Turner, who was also a singer in Rainbow, and one deep purple album in the 90's. Whew...trip down memory lane there lol!
Joe Lynn turner sang for rainbow and yngwie too
Sorry. I went back and added that while you must have posted. My favorite song of Yngwie/Turner was Heaven Tonight.
@@williamyates694 yes! That album takes me back to highschool
Same here man! I was a Junior. We were overrun with great music in those days...unlike now lol.
@@williamyates694 well I'm 24 but I grew up in Boston, queen, rush etc and I started playing guitar at 11 years old and got into this style in the 10th grade
Please, check out Hear n Aid, song is called Stars... Yngwie, and a whole bunch of rock stars from the 80s got together for a benefit, guys from queensryche, dokken and a number of others were asked by Dio and his friends to record a song...its 🔥
I have a buddy who played with him on an album or 2 Said he’s very good and very busy with his fingers. Anyway very nice acoustic guitar playing
Level of talent that is hard to wrap the head around.
Insanely skilled
Your new subscriber from India here. I am a huge fan of Yngwie Malmsteen.
You need to react to Hear N' Aid - Stars. It was metal's contribution to the charity effort during the 80's when the pop world was doing things like the Band Aid concerts. They assembled most of the A-list stars of metal from some monumental bands, but were also not snobbish enough to throw the door open to individual talents like Malmsteen and even Spinal Tap. The amount of talent in the one room is mind blowing and is a window into a bygone era at its absolute peak. This was before the heavier stuff like Megadeath and Pantera etc., which is a genre in itself, so don't be challenged by the fact that it is "metal".
Back when I was young I had a friend who was really good at playing guitar and he played a lot on Malmsteen songs. We used to have partys over his place, and he turned his amp to max and played Malmsteen songs. So fking cool!
He loved the sound of the late great Randy Rhoads.
Been listening to malmsteen since 88 odyssey album 👌👌👌👌
Yngwie is a straight up stud
The best! Thanks guys! 🤘😎

Need to hear Yngwie Malmsteen's "Dreamin (Tell Me)" Great song!
I've played guitar for twenty five years he is my inspiration and got me into playing guitar..
according to Steve Vai ... " Yngwie says he is the greatest of all time , and who are we to argue?" i believe they are actually great friends in real life :)
8:23 i love when Il Maestro do at the stage, the face of both
Amazing!
Find a guy that looks at you and touches you the way Yngwie looks at and touches his guitars. Hehehe
If you like an overdose of guitar God’s, look for G3 with Yngwie, Joe Satriani and Peter Frampton. I had the please to hear that a their concerts in LA, London and Zürich.
You guys should definitely do some classical reactions. There are tons of great pieces to choose from. Beethovens symphony #7 allegretto is great
Great reaction as always ❤ Icould go on and on with Yngwie requests lol, but you have to check out Far Beyond the Sun next
Absolutely 👍
Thank you sams legs and also talking heads for amazing reaction 😂😂😂! 😊😊
Yngwie conveniently fits in the top 10 rock guitar players of all time.
One word….Legend.
talented? serious? he is one of the two virtuoso has been leading the neo classical wave for rock and metal music from 80's. the second is Jason Becker. all symphonic rock and metal bands owe him a lot for founding this genre.
It's pronounced "ing - vay m'am - steen" 😁Born in Sweden, (and u were right!) he grew up w/ European classical music and also on the music of Jimi Hendrix, Ritchie Blackmore of Deep Purple/ Rainbow, Uli Jon Roth of the Scorpions... Yngwie learned to play guitar as a kid and went pro in his teens when he came to America in the early 80's and joined L.A. rockers Steeler... He was soon picked by former Rainbow vocalist Graham Bonnet to play guitar for the rock band Alcatrazz... It made him a star in Japan and Yngwie was writing original music at age 19 for his debut solo album in 1984 - the mostly instrumental record was released under the banner Yngwie J. Malmsteen's Rising Force - 'Black Star' was the opening track ... w/ vocalist Jeff Scott Soto, he completed a 2nd album 'Marching out' (1986) and it solidified his 'guitar hero' status as he demonstrated blazing speeds on the fret that no guitar player could pull off back then... 3rd album 'Trilogy' featured vocalist Mark Boals in 1986... but he was injured in a near-fatal car accident and faced a difficult recovery, as well as losing his finances when a manager took off w/ his earnings.
In 1988, Yngwie recovered his guitar skills and recorded his biggest album 'Odyssey' w/ another former Rainbow singer Joe Lynn Turner and marked the success w/ a live record 'Live in Leningrad' in 1989.
Unfortunately, Yngwie's brand of rock w/ blazing leads became obsolete as the 90's began... Goran Edman (vocals) recorded 2 albums - 'Eclipse' (1990) and 'Fire and Ice' (1992)... but neither sold as well... However, Yngwie J. Malmsteen persisted in the 90's and beyond w/ various lead singers and released a string of remarkable records from 'The Seventh Sign' in 1994 to 'Parabellum' in 2021.
Some Yngwie J. Malmsteen tracks (w/ vocals) - "I'll see the light tonight" ... 'Liar' ... 'Hold on' ... 'Rising Force' ... 'Judas' ... "Far beyond the Sun" (instrumental)... "You don't remember, I'll never forget"... 🔥🔥🤘🤘
Recomend this music of Yngwie Malmsteen
Like An Angel
The one and only Yngwie Johan Malmsteen I, was lucky enough to see him live in Auckland .
There was a joke in the 90s a guitarist is at the pearly gates and standing next to St Peter. All of a sudden he can hears the intro to Black Star being played. He turns to St Peter and asks is Yngwie here in heaven . St Peter looks at him with a grim face and reply's no we couldn't let him in. That is God practicing
Yngwie plays arpeggios from hell...😂😂😂
When he played live in poukeepsie at the chance he lit the guitar on fire. We went fuckin nutz as he played I am a viking
Hello guys, when a another reaction to ABBA, I'm looking forward to it.
FYI. Yngwie malsteen was be a global master virtuoso guitar when he is 20 years old since his 1st album in 1984.
When I was 18 some co-worker gave me live in Leningrad by malnsteen and I literally shit my pants.
The speed god!
Yngwie was my favourite musician for 30 years,, and it's great to see people discovering him all the time, and better still, appreciating him! Why is he no longer my favourite? Recently, I've been taken with the all-female Japanese heavy metal band, Lovebites. They're amazing, and to fit with your channel, one of the guitarists competes in bikini bodybuilding competitions in her spare time! Any song from their official channel would be great - maybe try the live version of The Hammer of Wrath for a high-octane intro: ua-cam.com/video/pHrWRT0Jeac/v-deo.html
Dude they suck. Baby metal over this any day.
Bach, Beethoven , Paganini, Vivaldi...Swedish love classical music
Pronounced (Ingvay)....Steeler, Alacatrazz, Rising Force.....he played a lefthanded Stratocaster righthanded in honor of Jimi Hendrix in Rising Force in the early to mid '80s. His guitar has scalloped frets. Some of the Rising Force live shows from '85 are very good. Many people have never heard of him but he has been around for 40+ years or more.
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥R.I.P 🎼🎩🎸P.JOE
I had the great fortune to see SATRIANI VAI AND MALMSTEEN (G3 2003) at the Beacon Theater in NY. What a show also as guests they had John Petrucci and Neil Schon. It’s like I died and went to guitar heaven. Unfreaking believable
Yngwie is the MAN! And that is all I have to say about that.
He carried his guitarr with him every where he went since he was 10. There is documentary about him
the legend !
Best ever
One of the greatest
His first name is pronounced Ing vay. His full name is always pronounced loudly with a heavy German accent, big smile, and a 'Ya!' at the end. Extra points for wearing lederhosen.
its not often that you get to watch a man play that createdd an entirely new genre of music. feel privileged folks
This song rest album from rising force 1984 next far beyond the sun live leningrad 1989 full power and best line up from yngwie malmsteen
ING-VAY is how how his name is pronounced
Fantastic, he,s up there with Blackmore, Hendrix, Beck and Uli jon Roth
You definitely need to check out some more modern guitar wizardry in Polyphia- Ego Death. It features Steve Vai, which you have reacted to.
I saw yngwie with ACDC in the early to mid 80s.
Go look at one of his signature guitars, the frets are scalloped so he gets a different note the harder he pushes
While that can happen, he mentions in one of his instructional videos that I own that scalloping is for better grip/control on the strings. It is not for getting "other notes". Yngwie despises anything that is not "in-tune".
Yngwie is the Goat baby!!
No one better on the guitar period!
One of the biggest guitar 🎸 playing music live music video for watching great music
😂 yeah I'd say they got it going on over there in Sweden😅😅😅
Check him out with a full orquestra. Now thats super unique. I can only give suggestions but ive never ever had one played, even when i know other request it also, just like river plate concert (AC DC). Just being ignored.
Well, I’d certainly rather listen to Yngwie with full orchestration than the plodding, major-pentatonic-scale AC/DC, any day. Especially if it’s that awful Brian Johnson, with his cat-fight voice. I could tolerate some of the more humourous tunes from the Bon Scott years, but as I’m in my 40s and have been playing guitar for 30+years, you’ve got to play more than pentatonic scales if you want to keep my attention.
among the first to buy the vhs copy of live in budokan when it first came out
On these do the Album
If you wanna hear something cool...check out his song Heaven Tonight.. It was a HUGE radio and MTV song back in the 80's. Its like his 'hair metal' song
We know but some dont- He doesn't even begin to touch Black Star until 5 minutes in.
He's so underrated as a player
Saw an instructional vid of his called "Arpeggios from Hell" and he invites you to "play along." Hilarious. Maybe with about 130 more years of practice
Yngwie and Jimmi Hendrix playing guitar with their teeth
EVH and Paul Gilbert with cordless drills

Me, just watch them. Thank God
Guitar with Violin Stick was first played by Jimmy Page...🎸

Прикольно, чувак с чувихой сидят и впаривают как Ингви нужно слушать, в 88 году попалась мне пластинка от Полидорис, по сих пор оторваться не могу
Malmsteen=Big boss
Malmsteen is perhaps the most "Technically Proficient" guitarist in recent memory, even surpassing Eddie VanHalen in that regard. But there's more to guitar than technical ability. His music has never been especially moving. It's like eating a meal prepared by a 5-star chef, it's flawless, but it's still not Grandma's home cooking, if that makes sense...
Part of it is how do you share a stage with a guitarist that good? It doesn't leave a lot of room for the other musicians. It's like Michael Jordan or Wayne Gretzky... when they were in their prime they were super-stars, but at the same time college sports got a lot more popular because the guys at the top can't surprise you anymore. You expect them to win every time, and you're usually right, and it becomes less amazing. But if they stopped winning, you'd lose interest entirely. People get trapped in success that way.
Agreed, as talented as he is, his music doesn't have _heart_ imo.
@@jowbloe3673 - if you get a chance checkout songs like Crying, Brothers, Icarus Dream Suite, Overture 1383, and Marching Out just to name a few. You'll see Yngwie plays with a lot of heart and feeling. Those songs are the epitome of inspiration. Yngwie's vibrato and bending is often overlooked, but both are top notch.
@@jowbloe3673That's ridiculous. Yngwies playing is full of passion, fire and emotion. His vibrato alone is top notch.
I think he is GREAT but I understand what you are getting at,in jazz terms the same can be said for a virtuoso piano player named Art Tatum,he was so good few wanted to play with him,
