    Hi Everyone and Welcome Back to My Bucolic Life Channel. Meet my new sewing project.
    This week is just a fun pair of pants, while I wait for a fabric delivery. Sometimes you just need a project like this. And yes, they would look great in black also, but I just felt like spring, again, so why not? Enjoy!
    ~Marie

    People send you angry comments/emails? What on Earth for? It shouldn't need to be said to them, but apparently it does.
    You don't force them to watch your offerings, you don't sit next to them at their machine and tell them what they must do. You're just (very kindly, and taking some time and effort) showing us what you do and you often remind us to do whatever works for us when we sew because when we are in charge of our own sewing. We can take or leave any tips you have as we like. We can even, has it occurred to them, watch something else if we don't like this. As for me, I love your videos and I'm always learning new little tips and techniques. For which I heartily thank you. :-)

      I truly appreciate the time and effort-not to mention- the tried and true sewing tips, tricks and tutes' that Marie shares with us. I'm really encouraged when I sew now because I'm trying the tips she shares including understitching. My projects look so much better; including understitching for keeping my facings neatly in check without rolling to the front of my garment. Old school works for me. I'm so glad we have choices!!😊

      @@arlenewyatte5066 Hear, hear! I couldn't agree with you more. She's a generous soul who teaches very well, and encourages us all the time but without being 'preachy', and I love her to bits. (I even love the way she talks to things like her pins and the fabric etc 'Come on' if they're being a bit tricky, like she is coaxing and reassuring them that 'they can do it'.)

    I never understitched when I first started sewing. Never realized how much of a difference it makes. I was self taught at sewing and this was in my early 20's. I started quilting and did that for years. Started about 3 years ago trying to make clothes again. I watched a lot of videos and I can now say I'm converted to YES to understitching. It looks and behaves a lot better.

    What a fun pair of pants! I could easily see those a couple of different ways...if you used a soft knit, they could be a cozy lounge pant & I could see making them a little dressier (but still comfy) by using something like linen. Thanks for sharing! Can't wait to see what great project you bring us next.
    People can be so rude... I'm a true believer in "you do you"!!! If you don't want to "do", than don't. Sewing, like with quilting (which I do a lot of), there are SEW many ways of doing things. Just BC you share a technique doesn't mean that the person HAS to do it. But, I find it disappointing that people find the need to criticize & be rude. If you don't understand the how or why of a technique, then ask...NICELY! I believe... If you don't have something NICE to say... Say NOTHING at all. Life's too short for people to nit pick & critize just BC they don't agree... Sad...IMHO.
    Personally, i think you do a great job, Marie & I appreciate your sharing different ways of doing things & keeping the 'oopsies' in. It keeps it real & I for one, APPRECIATE ALL YOU DO!!! Thank you!!!

    Those are going to be some colorful pants! Surely you will be able to find a top to go with them. Endless variety of them?🤭 Some people will complain that water isn’t wet enough.🙄 Don’t let haters get you down. 😊
    I like your serger use & understitching methods. Only vaguely familiar with either one, but want to give them a try to see what I think. Very helpful information.

    They're delightful! 😊 Such a pretty print 😍 As for understitching, it's definitely worth doing, whether the instructions say to or not. I can't believe anyone would object to it. As they say in the north of England, "There's nought so queer as folks!" 😂

    I have been watching your videos since you started and avidly look forward to your next instalment - it’s much appreciated. They are informative and I like when you go off piste and ‘do you’ often showing us something that is not included in the instructions such as, a FBA or how to lower the bust points. I am new to sewing and have learnt a lot from you (visually). Quite frankly, it’s beyond me why anyone should care that you understitch, except if seeking clarification. Anyway, thanks for sharing. Marlene from London, Uk 😊

    Hi, Marie! I haven’t commented in a while but just had to here. This is an awesome pattern and I love them. I’ve made them several times as my weight fluctuated😂. I, too, understitch all pockets and anything else I want to understitch. I also add astray tape to the pocket opening to avoid stretching. Sewing is fun and techniques are personal! I always laugh when you say, “you do you” but my looks at me sideways when I say it.
    I’m a few years older than you are (68+) and I always “do me” when sewing! I’m sorry you’ve received nasty comments about techniques you choose to apply when sewing. But many of us aged garment makers learned techniques that endure the life of the garment and understitching is one of them! I look forward to your videos every week and I learned to save thread using your serging method and I love it! Your fabric is gorgeous and the fit is great too. Time to pull out this pattern again. Did I mention I love this pattern so much that I have about five copies?? I know😂😂😂. Thanks for another great video😊😊😊

    Dear Marie, i love your 1980's overlocker. I still have and use the identical model, but in 3 thread. Its been a faithful old friend for over 30 years. She is a pain to re-thread though. My sewing machine tech is not happy if you knot your new colour and run through the tension wheels on our old ladies. But, wow, such great machines! So lovely to see you still use yours. Your tip on going just over a corner and then turning your fabric has been so helpful. Thank you. Xxxxx

    I some kind of love understitching and pressing in sewing garments, like i love overcasting in soft sculpture, it maybe is not always totally necessary but it makes the final product look more professional and since it is our all beloved hobby (i think) every stitch is just more time i can spend with it. 🤷🏻‍♀️ Your channel is great by the way! 🫶🏻

    O, those are cute pants.❤ Thank you for sharing. Keep on "doing you." ❤ I, for one, am learning a lot from you! Question... when you prewash and dry your fabrics, do you also iron it? Your fabrics always look so nice as you place the pattern pieces on it.

    • @mybucoliclife
      @mybucoliclife  5 місяців тому

      It depends... If it is really wrinkled then yes I do just so I can cut things out well. But if it isn't, a lot of times I just smooth it out with my hands because I don't want to have to (in general) iron the finished garment whenever I wash it. So I prefer to use it in it's natural state. I honestly don't know if it makes a difference, but it is just my habit. :)

    Cute Marie! tell me how to keep elastic from rolling and twisting when taking them on and off? Even sewing the elastic at the side seams hasn't worked.

    • @mybucoliclife
      @mybucoliclife  5 місяців тому

      I think that making that little edge stitch at the top helps define the top edge and helps, in addition to securing at the sides, sometimes the elastic is just wimpy too.

    I love understitching! I’m confused. Why did you serge the waistband when it was cut on the selvedge? I can only think that maybe it holds the seams together, or just for the tidy look? Not criticizing!
