The ALF Cast Reveal Troubling Details

- ALF was a 1980s sitcom that stood out in a lot of ways when compared to it’s contemporaries, partly because of it’s titular character. The show followed a character named ALF that was an alien who crashed on Earth after the destruction of his home planet. After landing on Earth, ALF meets the Tanner family and begins living with them. The humor of the show was derived from ALF’s odd alien idiosyncrasies, as well as his interactions with the Tanner family.
The show became a massive success, spawning four seasons and maintaining a legacy that lasts to this day. Despite the popularity of the show, cast and crew have expressed that the show wasn’t always the easiest to film. The technically demanding nature of the puppetry that brought the character of ALF to life required a ton of effort from all parties involved. Extra equipment was required, which meant that the set was unusually hot. As well, the show took a longer time to film than most sitcoms, which meant that the cast and crew were having to stay on the hot set for much longer than they might have otherwise.
In addition to the strenuous nature of the production, there have also been other controversies that have followed ALF since it’s initial airing. Years after the show aired it’s final episode, a blooper tape was revealed that showcased series co-creator and puppeteer of ALF Paul Fusco saying some incredibly inappropriate comments while in character as the show’s titular star. These included sexually suggestive remarks, as well as racial slurs. The show was also embroiled in some controversies while it was on the air as a result of some negative behaviors that kids in the audience began emulating, resulting in the death of a child and the injury of a cat. Join Trender as we take a look at how the ALF cast revealed troubling details of the show’s production.
The ALF Cast Reveal Troubling Details
My siblings and I used to watch that show, we never did anything to emulate the scenes, because we knew better. I didn’t even cut a hole in the table to shine a flashlight through into an upturned goldfish bowl, with the fish in the toilet accidentally getting flushed (loved that scene).
Imagine being a main cast member on one of the most successful television programs from the 1980s and becoming so envious of a puppet that you just pack everything up and leave without saying anything to the other cast members. Such a petty person.
Exactly, very petty.
I enjoyed the show but had a lot of issues with depression in the 80s. I think the one who played willy should have been grateful for having a job. Maybe because he never dreamed of the social media they had today that would bring his negative behavior to light. He would have been forever forgotten if not for his role on Alf. There are a lot of stage actors today that will never be remembered.
We're happy to know that you love the show. In your opinion, what is its best episode?
Bro, would you knock it off with your projecting attitude. You weren't there. I've been through similar situations myself from many technically demanding jobs. My college experience was very grueling. I'm a recovering depressant myself but I don't use that to virtual signal to put others down and order in order to bring yourself up.
ALF was a revolutionary show, in how well it succeeded at being a comedy and the wise-cracking ALF alien being accepted and loved by the audience.
I heard Paul Fusco was incredibly controlling with all aspects of ALF (production, marketing, real life interviews, ownership); but I honestly don't think it would have been as good without him calling all the shots since he cared so much and protected the ALF idea.
Thank you, Paul!!
This show was a treasure. Just amazing cast and episodes.

@@Trender1 S1-E1 Jut for my favorite line "HE IS QUICK ILL GIVE HIM THAT" .
I kind of see it as a bit of an "art imitates life" kind of thing. Both Willie and Kate had problems dealing with ALF, and were oftentimes at odds with him. Their tensions with ALF could have mirrored their tensions with being cast as they were. Max Wright, for example, could have taken some of his tensions on playing second-fiddle to a puppet out on ALF through Willie's character, which caused somewhat tension between the two characters.
I was 8 when ALF premiered and never missed an episode. I still have my Burger King puppet ad some of the trading cards. Just this year I picked up Neca's excellent ALF figure, so the love's still there. Hoping for a soft reboot at some point. Something that acknowledges the show took place rather than a full reboot
I had the 1st, 2nd and 3rd editions of the comic.
I love ALF Always have and still do
We love ALF too! Which episode is the most memorable for you?
@@Trender1 All of them
I still love ALF. I bought the show on DVD. Including the TV movie "finale".
IMO, they should have continued the series in the theme of that movie; ALF living at a Top Secret Air Force Base, driving everyone crazy with his hijinks.
Dear Mr Alf I love you so much that when you died I just couldn't believe it was true because I remember watching the show so much that I would run into my room go get Alf the doll and sit in front of the TV and watch your show today I look back at our memories together and I miss you so much Alf I could cry love you Alf your friend for always you will never be forgotten Christina Owens
We're happy to know that you're a fan of Alf! Thank you for sharing your thoughts. If we may ask, which episode is the most memorable for you?
my favorite episodes are one where Alf had hiccups, minister, dummy friend, looking through the window and many more!
One of our favorites too, you've got taste! What other types of video would you like to see?
So, basically Max Wright was jealous not being the star of the show yep that the #1 reason why sitcoms get canceled so he's the one to blame for the show ending. Paul Fusco should've fired him and replaced him especially after he yelled at Benji Gregory for making a mistake to the point it made him cry.
I know but it's difficult to replace someone in a sitcom because people get used to the actors. It didn't work at two and a half men either. The moment Ashton Kutcher appeared I stopped watching it
Benji was and still is so sweet. I always identified with him watching the show as a child because he was about my age, only a year or two older. What Max did was dead wrong and child abuse (emotional).
Yes, Max should have walked away and cooled off. NO excuse to scream at a child!!!
Maybe it's you that is jealous. Maybe you're one of them rich haters, a sensitive working folk snowflake butthurt over people speaking of their experiences, something of which YOU weren't there, and yet you generalize that people who make more money have it made but they don't. I've been in technically demanding jobs too. My college experience was incredibly grueling. Get over yourself be a virtual signaling loser somewhere else.
Alf was one of my favorite shows growing up❤
loved this show
Glad to know that you loved the show! Which episode is the most memorable for you?
I'm very surprised to hear all this about the difficulties of the show and its sad to me that Max Wright turned to Crack, that was real shocking to me and the stories about all that. Also it's a shame that a tv show couldn't use all their ideas bc of some people and their incredible stupidity, whatta they say,? Only one or two bad apples ruin the whole bunch!! So millions of people who understand fake not real things bc it's on TV kinda get punished in a sense bc of people who don't know the difference between fake and reality!!! I was a kid watching Alf, never had an urge to do some of his crazy shenanigans, bc it's fictional TV!!! Where were those small children's parents at?!! If your going to the kitchen and looking for a blender and plugging in cords to outlets and drawing your own baths how "little" of a kid are you really?? Plus doing all that, again, where we're the parents!!??? I got triggered over something decades ago lol 🤷♂️ I'm good now. Lol
You're absolutely right.!!!!!
I still have my ALF plush from 1987
Didn't that kid who got electrocuted watch the episode and see it didn't well for Alf??
Probably thought he would survive it just like Alf did.
Boy that max Wright from the show sure had issues 🤨
Why was it so difficult Sesame Street had lots of puppets and we never heard these difficulties
First and foremost because the guy voicing ALF was a real douche, verbally abusing the staff and the cast. On top of that the show was apparently extremely difficult to work on overall.
Im watching reruns on the LAFF channel as we speak. I miss that show.
How do I get my hands on that blooper tape?
Its on you tube. I have seen it
D / I ( Christina Owens has a good friend who loves her so much that she is upset because she is missing Alf very much send to Alf Christina Owens
I wonder if Neelix was inspired by Alf.
That’d be cool if they had a Melmacian race on the show. Neelix could have been from there
Uh. Brian was played by Benji Gregory. Where did you pull that other name out of?
Benji (Benjiman) Gregory is his first and middle name. A stage name! Lots of child actors do this. As an adult, he goes by Ben. A quick Wikipedia search will confirm this.
Loved alf
Glad to know that you love Alf! Which episode is the most memorable for you?
When I was a child, I used to watch this.
As a 79 year old now, I am surprised to hear this.
The show was released in '86, though... so you would've been in your forties when the show started. How'd you watch it when you were a kid? 😂
Japanese fans are looking forward to the new release.
Okay who’s the weird mf that tried to eat their cat bc of Alf 😭
The whole thing withthe "outrage" over the "blooper tapes" was just as stupid then as it is now, if you actually watched the footage it was very obvious that they were trying to blow off a little steam between takes and nothing was actually meant by any of it.
Anyone who was "shocked" by what they saw has almost certainly never seen that sort of footage from other shows where the cast take the opportunity to break character and have a little fun that sometimes involves saying "offensive" things, making sexual innuendos and just generally being rude in some way shape or form.
I remember watching gag reel footage from an old british comedy called 'Allo 'Allo where the cast members who played the town SS officer and his personal secretary on the show were actually doing hitler imitationa in funny voices while giving the "two finger salute" to a nazi flag that was on set while wearing their fake ss uniforms, it was hilarious to watch if you understood the context of the show but nothing serious was ever meant by it.
I loved watching ALF back in the '80s.
Us too! Which episode is the most memorable for you?
I'm watching ALF right now
We're happy to know that you love the show. In your opinion, what is its best episode?
I think it was worth it. It was a great show.
We're happy to know that you love the show. In your opinion, what is its best episode?
Yep! I read that Max Wright absolutely HATED working on the show (as most did everyone), but he said it was worth it because of how big of a hit it had become. 😁
The should of hired Jim Henson
And Frank Oz...
I loved the show, but it ran its course by season 4 it was loosing focus.
We absolutely agree! Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts. Be safe and have a great day!
I watch Alf more and more lately! Grew up watching it in Israel 🇮🇱. U have few videos about different shows I think..your voice is familiar.
