- This is the complete concert performed by the United States Navy Band Commodores ensemble at the U.S. Navy Memorial in Washington D.C. on July 5, 2022.
Jazz is America's music and the U.S. Navy Band Commodores, the Navy's premier jazz ensemble, have been performing the very best of big band jazz for the Navy and the nation for 50 years.
Included are several big band favorites such as "Sing, Sing, Sing" popularized by Benny Goodman; "Begin the Beguine" written by Cole Porter and popularized by Navy veteran Artie Shaw,; "Smile" composed by Charlie Chaplain; the 1926 jazz standard "Bye Bye Blackbird"; "Destination Moon" popularized by Dinah Washington; and other favorites. Included are patriotic standards such as John Philip Sousa's "Stars and Stripes Forever" and "America the Beautiful", plus a medley of service songs including the anthem of the new U.S. Space Force.
Musician 1st Class Kristine Hsia provided the vocals.
Formed in 1969, this 18-member group continues the jazz big band legacy with some of the finest musicians in the world. The Commodores' mission includes public concerts, national concert tours, ceremonial support in honoring our veterans, jazz education classes and clinics, and protocol performances for high-level military and civilian government officials.
