Loved it. We are not DIYers, but with your clear instructions we can do it! It's great that you don't have interrupting background music or personal blah blah. That's what a good teacher does. Thank you.
Thank you, this just guided me through my first time ever to change a lock. Last time I needed a when my key broke off in the lock and he charged $150 to take it out. It just happened again, in the other door! I saved a lot of money this time by buying a new lock and nervously changing it out! Thanks for the help!
Thank you. I was having a difficult time reinstalling mine after refinishing the door. Whoever orinially installed it had the silver plate that goes behind the inside turn knob on the outside of the door. After fiddling and cursing for longer than I care to mention I turned to your tutorial and had it installed in five minutes. Why I didn't look to youtube is beyond me. :) Again...thank you very much!
Thank you so much! I had a feeling my old broken Kwikset deadbolt could be replaced easily based on what I read about it, but was lacking in confidence and experience. I bought the correct replacement and looked for a diy video. Yours was the first I saw and thanks to your calm, steady manner and clear instructions and video, I was able to do it easily. It is now working! I did use some of the old parts, such as screw and faceplate on the lock side. It does sound a little loose inside but works fine and all the screws are tightened, so I think it’s just new. I didn’t change the strike plate. I’m going to monitor it for awhile. It’s a garage door so I’ll have other options. I wonder if I should’ve gotten one with a smart key. Maybe next time, now that I have this one success! Thanks again! Subscribed!
Thank you for your feedback and glad to know that the video was helpful! We are wondering about the Smart key ones too! 😅. Yep. Maybe next time if we need to change the lock. Thank you!
I just purchased a similar set. This video has given me confidence that I can replace my key lick and deadbolt. Being able to program the key is a major plus for me. I like being able to use one key for both locks.
45, SWF, first time ever changing my own locks, I'm ashamed to say....because your video made it SOOOOO EASY. Dude, thank you! Had plenty of guys offer to do it for me in the past, but never bothered to show me how to do it for myself. Not so scary at all!
The new receiver plate for the deadbolt is larger than the original. You need to chisel out the hole to accommodate the larger plate so it sits flush in the jam and doesn't hit the door. Not a fan of the way you put it over the smaller hole so it's sticking out. Your door may not have a problem, but someone with a tighter door might. Looks hokey too.
Good video. My thumb turn has become loose and I'm afraid it's going to fall off. Do I need to replace the entire lock, or is this something that can be tightened. I haven't opened up the lock yet to see what it's like on the inside. I've never done this before.
First thing to check is if all the screws that hold the lock too the door are tight. If the problem is the handle for the deadbolt handle, then check to see if there is a small screw on the side of the handle that can be tightened.
Hi, I have a new kwikset deadbolt and keyed doorknob set, looks similar to what's on your door. My main question is about the deadbolt's thumbturn on the inside, is it possible to install it so that when it locks the thumbturn is horizontal instead of vertical..?
Thank you for your comment! Unfortunately, it is not possible to rotate the handle of the deadbolt to make it horizontal when it is locked. Thank you for Watching.
Help. I can't get the long screws to meet up with the holes on the back of the keypad. It just turns on one of the screws as if it is attached to nothing.
Thank you for watching. Sorry to hear that you are having trouble installing the lock. Sounds like something Is not aligned correctly. I would double check the measurements of the holes in the door match the instructions. Also make sure that the latch part that comes in from the side is set to the right length and is centered in the big hole. Sometimes it is a little easier to line up by loosening all the screws a little so everything can move around until you get all of the bolts started. then tighten everything down.
+J Creed Try check to see if there is any dirt on the screw or the nut it screw into. If there is dirt in the nut, try to blow and clean it out. Otherwise, sounds like a replacement might be needed. Thank you for watching.
I was just wondering if you still have the model number or any reference number for the Kwikset deadbolt you used on this tutorial video? I have the same style and brand name of deadbolt but I do not have any reference material? For some reason, the thumbturn is falling off from its housing and I want to find out if I can do anything to fix it? Please help?
Last comment sorry to be such a negative person but at the same time you need too explain what a hole saw is what size they need and some other things that if you're using a whole saw you need to know. that is if you're using this video for beginners or people who don't know which actually I'm looking at the people who are watching this that is what they are
Better to watch this video through a few times and ignore the instructions included in the package. They make no sense. I bought this very same set and there were more parts.
I certainly agree about the instructions included in the package. Kwikset has been around for years, You'd think that by now they would have seen how useless their instructions ere and corrected them.
IT's NOT THAT EASY. I had to go to bed with the lock uninstalled because it was just too damned difficult to install. Maybe tomorrow, I might even end up having a locksmith install it, Okay, I solved the first problem. Not having a third hand to hold the exterior part in place while I was attempting to connect it to the interior part, I found that I was able to hold it in place with ordinary Scotch tape. Now I have to go to Home Depot to buy another lock. I stripped the threads on the long screws of my first set while trying to screw them into somewhere I shouldn't have. (I wondered why the holes and screws didn't line up) I now think that I'll be able to install the new lock. We'll see.

Straight, to the point, made it simple. The instructions that came with the lock were ridiculously bad. Thank you!

Very helpful video. You are great at giving directions anyone can follow. Thank-You for sharing your knowledge.
Thank you for your feedback! Glad the video was helpful!
Looks like a nice little Saturday!
Yes it was! Thank you for your comments!
My Armorax security system is compatible with this door lock and being able to lock and unlock doors from my phone has made my life so much easier!
+Mildred Hogue That's fantastic! We should look into that. Thanks for the tip!!
You should do a video on replacing a front door

Awesome. Thank you so much for the clear instructions. In instruction papers, it was not clear. Thank you.
Thank you for your comment! Glad the video was helpful!
Thank you for this video, much more helpful than the instructions, really helped my installation.
Thank you very much for your feedback!
I just installed it myself, this was very helpful. It took me an hour but that was because my set was different
Thank you for your feedback! Glad the video helped and good job on your installation project!!

Nice video....however, video “froze” when explaining smart key 🔑 program at the end?
I really wanted to see how you get the screw on part of that type of lock
Awesome video.

The problem I'm having is I can not tighten one of the screws. It will only tighten half-way. Any suggestions on why this is happening?

It's the Kwikset 980 deadbolt. www.homedepot.com/p/Kwikset-980-Series-Antique-Brass-Single-Cylinder-Deadbolt-featuring-SmartKey-980-5-SMT-RCAL-RCS/202106368
There is a tiny set- screw that holds the thumbturn on . Yours probably fell out.
Yeah. But now I need to figure out how to adjust the thing to put it in the door before putting the knobs on.
I did it! who needs a man? lol great video!
