CAR AUDIO PROFFESIONAL FEEDBACK: Soldering: YES! Thank you for soldering and heat shrinking, far better than crimp connectors for strength and conductivity. Earth: yeah Nissans don't have earth in their loom and if they do its usually weak and crap so external proper ground = correct = good Adam! Blue wire: the blue wire on the adapter plug that goes to the factory harness turns on the aerial amplifier, if you are getting bad radio reception and you want it better, wire it to the the blue/white wire on the Sony harness. (and yes you can have both blue wires on the adapter loom going to the one blue wire on the Sony Loom). Green wire: The light green wire for handbrake needs to go to earth not accessory. The reason for this is that the wire attached to the handbrake is a switching ground so if you want to trick the head unit into thinking the handbrake is on, wire it to ground. I have seen far worse DIY jobs than yours Adam so good job! Any questions just ask.
One thing I’ll say about electrical work. Both ways (soldering and crimping) are fine as long as you’re GOOD at either one. For me I was the same as you Adam, I hated crimp connectors but I just practised and over time you learn to love them! Just my 2 cents. Love everything you do, thanks for making videos!
You could get a plug and play all ready harness adapter from any audio shop or well equipped car part shops. Here they have shelves for different Car and radio manufacturers. I just bought a Nissan - Pioneer adapter and boom. works like a charm
Soldering tip: Clean the iron right before use. Heat it up to operating temp, then use a old damp dish sponge to clean the crud from the tip. Also, when you are done... Leave a bit of solder on the tip of the iron, this prevents corrosion and tarnishing of the tip over time. If the tip is already tarnished or blemished, use some fine grit sand paper to clean it up, then leave solder on tip in the future to prevent wear and tear. As far as the actual soldering of wires, place a bit of solder on the surface of the iron before you touch it to the wires, this will help with heat up, and also help you feed the solder from the top the correct way. The end result should look shiny and not dull. Like polished aluminum vs. pot aluminum. Hope this helps!
kyle goerlitz a kinda big thing I really hate with adam, always gotta be better than his friends. Like wasn't this car supposed to be like them? They don't have a wisewab kit and every thing.
Since you wired the parking switch wire you should add a backup camera and put it on the each corner of your bumpers with a relays to switch between them. so you can see literally how close you are well tandem drifting. Funny thought I figured I'd share. Lol
If you touch the iron to the solder & drop it into the wire that’s what is know as a cold solder, which will actually make the connection weak & make the solder prone to being brittle & cracked. Heat the wire from below until the solder melts from the top down. Also put some silicone paste after soldering, then slide the shrink tube on. It will help keep water out of the connection. Cheers!
The soldering for the first wire was a cold joint. If you put the iron on it again from the bottom you can heat up the solder so it sinks in to the wires. Just learned that last week in high school
First Solder wire looked great! Looked like your solder flowed nicely from one to the next, and wasnt too globby. You can put a bit of solder on the tip of the iron, and press it to the wire, then add a bit of solder into the wire/tip. Solder has a rosin core that allows it to flow properly.
When soldering all you really need to do is prime the soldering metal by touching the tip of the iron to the material and then heating the actual wires you're about to solder together. The best kind of wire mating is spread wires. Like 2 people interlocking hands. It makes sure there are no tiny bits of wire or sharp solder that can poke through the heat shrink and short a connection. Also happens to from the strongest bond and keeps the solder to a minimum. No excess material.
I ordered the harness only to get the harness that was on the car stock, (male side) so I just said fuck it, lets cut the wires. Cause I didn't want to wait for another harness to ship.
Adam, don’t give into your instincts. Keep the 350z simple. If you make it to pretty you will end up afraid to get in tight while doing tandems. Have to be willing to trade paint and not care too much
Adam that one wire that you stated for the power antenna you can also use that for aftermarket amp as well to energize the amp to turn on when you turn the key to the on position good job on soldering the wires 👍😊
With soldering, it’s best if you apply the heat to the underside of the cables, and feed the solder in from the top. It might take a minute to heat the cables up to the point that they melt the solder but that’s how you get the solder to fully permeate into the cable, ie best connection possible. It helps if you get a bigger tip for your soldering iron too.
A tip for soldering the wires. I put a dab on the top to heat up the wire, then I put the iron on the bottom to draw the solder thru the wire from the top.
the gamer 458 even just a rotory non turbo will be good. A little more reliable being nonturbo, while still having a power gain over the stock Miata/MX5 motor.
When it comes to stereos. You can get plugs that go from 350Z to ISO (universal plug) and then a universal plug to sony plug. You can get the whole kit for like $10-20. Even for uncommon cars as most cars from one company use the same plug. EG, my 85 Celica runs the same plug as the Hilux (tachoma) and Camry.
When you solder put some solder on the iron it helps the heat transfer to the wire. Also put some solder on the end of each wire (called tinning the wire) then hold them together and reheat the solder you have just put on the solder will melt and the 2 wires will come together add more solder if needed
Soldering looks fine. I normally hold the iron under the wire and feed the solder into the iron next to the wire. And it flows right into it. Plus I thought that the parking brake wire normally goes to ground?
Adam a correction from when you said ‘sheathing’ when referring to the INSULATOR around the wire. Thats all, in my opinion the crimp on butt connectors don’t completely seal and are more subject to corrosion than heat shrinking and soldering
@adam I think the parking brake wire is ground (-) triggered. It's been a while since I've installed a radio...so I may be wrong. You should just be able to tie it into the ground.
When you're soldering I find it best to keep a small blob on your tip, this transfers heat a lot easier to the wire than just pressing the tip to the wire. Then the wire heats up and you can dab the solder onto the wire. Your technique isn't too bad though!
I don’t know if anyone has mentioned a intake plenum spacer but they are cheap and add some top end torque. I even got better fuel economy with my Z after installing it.
Flux paste helps clean the wire. And in doing so it makes heat transfer easier and helps make Soderling more faster and helps to insure a good electric connection for a long time
Soldering your connections is actually the best way to splice two wires together. Butt connectors are a shitty connection style because the two wires are relying on the connector to make the connection since the two wires are not actually touching each other. If crimping a wire is the only option you have, bell caps or crimp caps are the better option because you have to tie the two wires together before you crimp it. The parking brake wire actually needs to be grounded (attached to the black wire), the Sony AX100 units need to see a ground to enable video in motion. It is not required for the radio to see the parking brake signal to use CarPlay or Android Auto. Hopefully that was helpful, I install the Sony AX100/AX200’s at least twice a week so if you have any other questions feel free to ask. (:
Why put rubber bands on a fucking lifted truck? Why lift a truck if it's a pavement queen? If u were to lift it for wheeling, why not do like 37s with a 16 or 17" wheel..monster truck status..
RaymondPyro 64 ok but he is gonna drive it and tie with it 37 are terrible to tow with there too big and the fuel mileage... rubber bands no rubber bands would be like a 24 on a 31
Fan out the stands on both of the wires, then interlock them like you're interlocking your fingers, then twist, then solder. This leads to a stronger joint and is less chunky!
When soldering wire together like that its best to get the wire nice and hot befor you apply solder the more you build up on the wire the more resistence you made. This is ok for this particular situation but it wouldn't be exeptible in a situation where you need to keep the impedence low. Also always put heat shrink on head unit harness. Black tape will get hot back there and make a mess of things
Looks like you need to use tip tinner or get a new tip for your soldering iron. Seems like you aren't getting enough heat transfer to the wires. Make sure the tip is clean and tinned before you heat up the wires so that it transfers the heat faster then heat up the wires from the bottom and feed the solder in from the top.
Yeo Adam it looks like you can twist the grip part of the hydro off and maybe could slide a grip over the threads and put and old bar end in it or someone the make it look good
The shop I work at installs radio's and headunits and I'm so happy that in Europe, ISO connectors are the standard. It's just plug and play. So you don't have to solder or crimp everything
It's the same here bud. You just have to make sure you buy your adapter. Soldering/crimping radio is a thing of the past unless you're not aware like Adam was at first.
i kind of skipped around thru the video, but usually on car audio installs the parking brake wire is activated by ground, IE when the parking brake is applied it grounds out the circuit for the parking brake light, ive rarely seen it otherwise and thats usually on European vehicles. and kudos for soldering the connections, much better than crimp barrels or "snow caps"
Not sure if you'll see this but the plug for the antenna (not the one that makes it go up. The one that plugs into the back of the radio) will also ground your radio.
As far as I'm concerned solder doesn't affect the sonic quality. TIP though, clean your soldering iron!!! Also before soldering dab a little solder on the end of your iron then clean it(should look shiny), it makes the iron more conductive. Probably should add you need copper wool to clean the iron.
Adam the Green wire should be going to a ground not accessory ( red ) most Parking brake is a negative (-) Trigger so you use the same ground as your Black wire. Glad you use an adapter harness ie. Metra or Scosche or Best kits harness. Good job on the soldering. Hope you wired up the remote turn on ( blue/white ) wire to the factory amp turn on because i heard last time that you had a factory amp in that car. This will allow you to turn on your factory amp. You also use the Blue/white wire to hook up to any aftermarket amplifiers as well.
Also Adam Milwaukee make a soldering iron wires with the big flat tip it comes with are easy as hell and sooo quick to heat wire to solder from the top no cord either
Solder, if done well enough, is the best connection Adam. Crimp connectors and butt connectors whatever, they can come loose much easier. Also, if you aren't using flux (soldering paste), start using it because it's a life changer, just experiment on which techniques are best for you, doesn't work the exact same for everyone depending on their iron.
Attended the British drift championship this weekend gone and I can honestly say it was the best experience ever. Massive angle, lots of smoke and loud cars. Not forgetting the awesome community! You really do a great job Adam at encouraging others into this fantastic sport.
Hey Adam why don't you get the 7/8 plenum riser it makes a big difference also with the car when I had it on my Z my car sounded like it was a V8 just in case you want to try that like that when you get it at that size you can still keep the factory strip bar
Never done a 350z, however usually in NZ we can get two adaptor harnesses - Sony to iso. Then iso to Nissan. All plug and play with no soldering or crimping. Done it this way for r33, Toyota and mini
Use flux when you solder and it'll make your soldering easier and better. It's a chemical cleaning, flowing , and purifying agent. Super cheap and worth it if you solder a lot.
With those left over wired I would either throw shrink wrap over the ends or cut the wires in stager so they don't short out on themselves or anywhere else. I could be wrong but nothing wrong with being to safe.
Put the solder on the wire and then hold the sorting iron on the wire to heat up the wire and it will almost suck in the solder, you may need flux to do this but sometimes you don’t.
you really should clean your soldering iron well the tip i use a wet sponge gets allot of the crud off, and i would also recommend getting flux ( helps the solder flow while its liquid. In addition id normally have a fan pointing away from me to suck the fumes away
Should wrap the intakes with gold heat reflective tape to match that gold theme (plus keep them intake temps cool) :)
Have you been watching Tavarish? I think you have been watching Tavarish.

Goes from being a missile car to the “ultimate drift z” haha we all knew where Adam was going with this from the beginning
Matt Nguyen haha so true!
its sad how much he is in denial of what a missile car is
kyle goerlitz a kinda big thing I really hate with adam, always gotta be better than his friends. Like wasn't this car supposed to be like them? They don't have a wisewab kit and every thing.
Alex Strömberg Matt his friend... has wisefab on his Z...actually thats the reason he got it
Alex Strömberg I just won't build my car because my friend has a stock car

I was waiting to hear the intake after the install

mattybeatzkidd wowwwww😂😂 love the comeback
Soldering the connection is the best thing you can do! Because that way you have the lowest resistens possible. You did a good job!
Use flux paste when you solder. It'll change your whole world when it comes to wiring.
First Solder wire looked great! Looked like your solder flowed nicely from one to the next, and wasnt too globby. You can put a bit of solder on the tip of the iron, and press it to the wire, then add a bit of solder into the wire/tip. Solder has a rosin core that allows it to flow properly.
That angle is actually insane, can’t wait to see you, Taylor, and Matt throw down!
imagine if it didnt have a welded.... it wouldnt be pushing the front wheels and would actually turn
Adam's the only dude i know that will wire up a new head unit and call it "minor buttoning up stuff". Love it
try using flux, I dont know how I ever soldered without it

*Do headers and you should be able to hit 320*
lowtek dah?
MSengineering David why mad
cuz bad
MSengineering David Adam can reach 320 with it
Incorrect. Cams MIGHT get him to 320 wheel.
5:05 for my little knowledge in soldering you need to put a little bit of solder on the tip to feed the solder from the wire
*next video “z get cage and 240 gets retired”

I'd honestly be happy with that.. people should respect classic schassis instead of thrashing them.

I didn’t know that either about adapter harnesses until I did about 10 car stereos lol.
A tip for soldering the wires. I put a dab on the top to heat up the wire, then I put the iron on the bottom to draw the solder thru the wire from the top.
You should make it a limo so it will become a 350LZ
Gendy Media do you mean a 350LZ 🖒🖒
Jamie Macdonald ah yes cheers mate
Those filter covers work amazing man I run them on my turbo sled it’s always in the snow and it keeps the water out of it. Works amazing
Turbo rotary for mia
the gamer 458 even just a rotory non turbo will be good. A little more reliable being nonturbo, while still having a power gain over the stock Miata/MX5 motor.
It could be the turbo rotary that ginguim wanted
Your mechanical ability and knowledge has come on leaps and bounds Adam, you should be really proud of yourself. 👍
When you about to sleep, and see a new LZ video
Most car audio guys solder connections or run whole new wires but when unable to run new it's soldered your doing very good doing it the way you do
When it comes to stereos.

Adam is sponsored by Japan!!!
Soldering looks fine. I normally hold the iron under the wire and feed the solder into the iron next to the wire. And it flows right into it. Plus I thought that the parking brake wire normally goes to ground?
Over fenders, paint jobs, lip kits lol and here comes the no seat time missle Z!! Over complicate 2j swap it!!!!
You did it the right way Adam. Always solder for a good connection.
Love the 240sx at the end of the video and nice video has always
that will soon be the only thing we see of the 240 at the rate he is building drift cars...
he has built 2 nay 3 Zs faster than his 240...
Adam a correction from when you said ‘sheathing’ when referring to the INSULATOR around the wire. Thats all, in my opinion the crimp on butt connectors don’t completely seal and are more subject to corrosion than heat shrinking and soldering
once you realize how easy those adapters make life you will hate seeing cars with the factory harness cut. total cringe.
@adam I think the parking brake wire is ground (-) triggered. It's been a while since I've installed a radio...so I may be wrong. You should just be able to tie it into the ground.
Thumbs up for the best outro ever!
When you're soldering I find it best to keep a small blob on your tip, this transfers heat a lot easier to the wire than just pressing the tip to the wire. Then the wire heats up and you can dab the solder onto the wire. Your technique isn't too bad though!

Flux paste helps clean the wire. And in doing so it makes heat transfer easier and helps make Soderling more faster and helps to insure a good electric connection for a long time
Oh Adam I beg you , please dont turn this car into a drift missile , keep your standards high and dont become like Taylor ray

swear ive never heard so much of the outro song b4 , i love it
U sick of wrenching on z's yet buddy?!
Yes. 100%. But the excitement of driving this car and knowing it’s mine to keep is fueling my motivation. So pumped
Adam LZ isn't that like... at least 50% why we continue to do these things anyway though?
It's like touching the hot stove. It hurts but you just keep doing it...lol
Ryan Austin I don't know about you, but if I touched a hot stove and it hurt, I'd be damn sure not to do it again. You must be into BDSM.
Adam, why not remove the fenders keep it a whole lot easier. And remove the front bumper and attach a bumper bar to the front ?
You did it right, soldering is the best way to go cuz it’s way less likely to rattle apart!
Build the truck pleaseee put 22x12s and some 33s with a leveling kit

clean your soldering iron, using the clean part of the iron tip to heat the wire and melt the solder will make everything soooo much easier
There is only one race - the human race.
WHAT ABOUT NASCAR
Jack Goff And f1 gt3 Drag ect
Looks like you need to use tip tinner or get a new tip for your soldering iron. Seems like you aren't getting enough heat transfer to the wires. Make sure the tip is clean and tinned before you heat up the wires so that it transfers the heat faster then heat up the wires from the bottom and feed the solder in from the top.

I Am Not A Ricer yes genius
The shop I work at installs radio's and headunits and I'm so happy that in Europe, ISO connectors are the standard. It's just plug and play. So you don't have to solder or crimp everything
It's the same here bud. You just have to make sure you buy your adapter. Soldering/crimping radio is a thing of the past unless you're not aware like Adam was at first.

Heat the wire with the heat gun then apply solder once the wire gets hot enough and you'll get the perfect solder👌👌 keep up the good work !! 👌
Not sure if you'll see this but the plug for the antenna (not the one that makes it go up. The one that plugs into the back of the radio) will also ground your radio.
As far as I'm concerned solder doesn't affect the sonic quality. TIP though, clean your soldering iron!!! That's literally the exact way I solder, and its worked fine for years. Good job!
Yoooooo this outro had me in the feels about when you first got the cream 240. It's a long journey till now. Keep going boi, you got this
Adam the Green wire should be going to a ground not accessory ( red ) most Parking brake is a negative (-) Trigger so you use the same ground as your Black wire.
Try using liquid flux to clean the joint before soldering, the solder will take a lot easier.
Use flux when soldering it will help the solder get all the way into the wire, it helps solder flow.
You have to put solder on the iron to make it heat up the wire, so just put some on, then put it underneath the wire.
Attended the British drift championship this weekend gone and I can honestly say it was the best experience ever. Massive angle, lots of smoke and loud cars. Not forgetting the awesome community! You really do a great job Adam at encouraging others into this fantastic sport.
That’s awesome to
Hear :)
Solder connections are far better than crimp connections when done right.
Your solder joints look just fine.
