I'm a victim of the "R word" and I didn't report. I didn't want to go through the trauma of a trial after going through the trauma of the R. Lots of people don't report for that reason or because they don't think they'll be believed.
I didn't report because I thought it was my fault. Took me about ten months to become less numb and then the anger set in. I'm better now, but I still remember the misplaced shame. ✌

Thank you for speaking up at the end about SA and R. My friend has a case pending here in Ohio (where we and Nathan live) and it has been a struggle for her from Day 1. She called the DA and prosecutor's office EVERY. SINGLE. DAY for almost a year to ask for the status of her case, and finally after 10 months she dared to ask what the hell was taking so long because she had already provided the evidence (medical records, doctor testimony, therapist testimony, witness testimony, a confession, pictures, etc.), and it turns out her case was never even filed and brought to their desks!!! The law had been telling her "yeah we'll get to it eventually" when in fact they never would have because she didn't even have a case! And no one thought to at least look up her name and see what was going on when she was calling non-stop! She already had a protection order against him but she moved house into a different county without advising the state AND THAT MADE THE ORDER NULL AND VOID! So when her r-pist showed up at her house several weeks ago he didn't technically violate her restraining order, so even if the cops caught him (which apparently they didn't even though she called right away), they couldn't arrest him! They'd only be able to tell him to stay away or else he'd catch a trespassing charge if he did it again. She tried to get an emergency protection order with her current county BUT THE JUDGE DENIED IT AND SAID SHE WAS "IN NO IMMEDIATE DANGER!" SO NOW NEXT WEEK SHE HAS TO APPEAR IN FRONT OF A JUDGE WITH HER R-PIST PRESENT AND TRY TO GET ANOTHER RESTRAINING ORDER! The ONLY good thing to come out of this is that her lawyer and SA assistance have been helpful in making sure he gets served, which makes it far more likely that she will get her restraining order. This is also a Castle Doctrine state, so if he shows up at her house again and shows aggression, she is allowed to take his life. It all makes me so fucking sick to my stomach.

People like to assume that dropped charges equals false allegations but there are *so* many reasons why someone could and do choose to drop charges. The big oh-so-scary myth surrounding false r claims is made and perpetuated to paint victims in a bad light, thus protecting predators. It’s a very old manipulation tactic but it clearly works wonders on people already looking for a reason to blame victims.

1:07 I’ve become so personally invested literally yesterday I was watching one of your videos, and I promise you I was more invested in your personal story time within the recap of Derek and Monique, even though that is what threw me into your channel
I came for the recaps, but I stay for your story times
Somehow it’s therapeutic I feel like it’s therapeutic, that you get to speak about it and listening to it makes me feel like I’m not the only one like obviously I know I’m not the only one that has lived some shit, but hearing other peoples stories is therapeutic to me, because I feel less Alone
I used to feel like I would always have to stay alone forever for like the rest of my life, because of all the trauma that I’ve lived through
I didn’t want to trauma dump on anybody by interacting with anybody, so isolation was king
I’m listening to other peoples storytimes helped me realize that we have all lift some shit and isolating ourselves is not the answer
But finding safe avenues for interaction is much better
