Installed a pocket door a few years back - they’re great! After a few weeks, my spouse complained it wasn’t working...right after they hung art on the wall next to the doorway. Turns out they nailed through the drywall and into the opened door locking it into place. 😂

Neither of us had a lot of experience with pocket doors so it never occurred to them. I was so focused on trying to get a good grip that little flip handle, I hadn’t even noticed the newly hung artwork and it never occurred to me “decor” could disable a door like that! We had a good laugh about it.

I pulled out the bumper and put in several squares of medium density foam used for ac insulation. Top to bottom. Softens the hit when opening the door. Useful if you have kids. Also made a t shaped guide for the bottom of the door as a center guide. Routed a notch into the bottom center of the door for the t glide notch into. No waver back and forth when opening and closing and illuminates the need for external guides that will mess up your paint.

Your vid helped alot. I changed two things. I made a guide and cut a notch in the bottom of the door to keep it from seating side to side. I also removed the hard rubber bumper and put 3/4inch foam from top to bottom as a stopper. The door does not slam into the frame and the guide kees my paint looking good. Even the kids can't mess it up.

They aren't too bad if you use the kits. Make sure everything is working well before you close it in with drywall and you should be good.

Will this style door also muffle room sound like a traditional door.
I would like a sliding type door or barn door but my biggest gripe is you can still hear all the sound because there’s no seal on the door, for both sides.
It’s for my laundry space which is why it’s so important

It's better than a barn door but not as good as a regular door. The have interior doors that are filled with insulation for sound. Sometimes call "safe n sound" doors which would help

Yes, that door lock works by turning the locking knob to "lock" position..! Simple.

On the end why didn’t you use a latch lock like those used on patio sliding doors?

I need some help on ideas on a slim door knob. I have a place, that goes to my downstairs, that needs a very low profile door knob. It's not a pocket door but I was thinking I could use that hardware on my regular door. I need the same turning mechanism on both sides so if someone closes the door I wont get stuck in the basement. I have never used pocket door hardware before, so can i put two of the handle sides on both sides of the door. Thanks so much. I know it's a strang question to be asking. I would appreciate your help

Maybe? You'd have 2 buy 2 set and try to put them together or just use a flat head screwdriver to open the one side. Maybe a deadbolt and leave the key in your side? Hmm tough one haha

The way you just can rip out studs, it is a testament to how flimsy the houses in the US are made.

How does latch work? Norm pocket door latch has a hook that you can use to get door out of pocket
