- Sea Otter has always been the largest cycling fest in America. We went on so many crazy adventures but one thing we were on the lookout for were some of the new Gravel Bikes. We checked out bikes from Specialized, Scott, Bianchi, Cannondale and Ridley. They all have something to offer the over growing field of gravel cycling. Thanks for the look-see and I think your slogan at the end--stay veloworthy--is the answer to the buying question, buy the bike for which you are worthy, performance-wise and price-wise. For riders at the peak of fitness playing the racing game, perhaps they can wring all the value out of a 12-grand bike and they should take the plunge and ride wide open. Otherwise, enjoy the dance between price and practicality and it is great that we have a multitude of bikes in all genres from which to choose. And there could be everything right with a $1,700 bike even for a rider worthy of a pricier model, nothing wrong with placing well or even winning on something nobody expects to see up front. So stay veloworthy, indeed, and don't let any of it break your bank.

Going by the value offered by the different bike brands, I don't think anything comes close to Canyon. Take the Canyon Grizl CF SL 8 for exampleat max spec it's about $5000 with GRX Di2. Base model is $3199 and you get GRX 810 and the Grizl comes with 50 mm max tire clearance. The Scott for $14000 is daylight robbery.
