Disclosure: I do NOT work for The Leather Shop (though I wish I did). They did not pay me for this video. I paid for the Expedition Bag and I have other products of theirs.
I have owned or still own leather products from many other popular vendors. But imho, The Leather Shop is the best provider of leather goods. (best designer AND best manufacturer)
As of the making of this video I have owned and used the Expedition Bag for 6 months and I use it every day. I have taken it on planes, trains and automobiles. I have taken it hiking, through airports, hotels, conferences and more. I take it to the gym. I use it as a carry-on, briefcase, backpack, and over-the-shoulder leather case.
UPDATE: I’ve been using this leather case every day for 18 months and still love it! It still looks fantastic and has only minor scuffs.
Also, I weighed the case empty and it weighs in at 7.6 pounds.

I have had my expedition bag for over 2 years now. I had mine made in the teal blue leather. I first saw the bag in a field and stream magazine ad and wanted one ever since. I use a copper bottle in the bottle strap.
I have only seen one company that is close. It was skytop leather. That company retired a few years ago.
The expedition bag is well worth the money.

Great review. Definitely an awesome bag. I have no idea why people say Saddleback leather is better. Those people have no idea what good leather is..lol. This bag is great leather And just a great company with a real passion for leather.

You should look in to Glaser Designs custom bags out of San Francisco. No one creates colored leather products as well as they do
Great review and the bag looks great but I absolutely hate companies that make their branding ostentatious. It comes across the same way a braggart comes across- insecure and needing recognition. The bag would be 10x better if the branding was subdued.
As far as the branding, on my blue leather bag they asked what shade I wanted the logo in. I had it done in a blended tone so it isnt as noticed.
The company is excellent to deal with.
You can request branding deletes. I believe they’ll be happy to comply.

Hi Carl, I just purchased the Heirloom Backpack and Expedition bag and can't wait to finally receive them. I ordered them in natural which is the "nude" pale pinkish color but would prefer to have a light tan color like yours. What color did you order your Expedition bag? Or did you apply a leather conditioner to get it to that nice light saddle tan color that I love?
I got the tan version, and I just looked at their site and it doesn't look like it's available any more. what a bummer! if you like the tan as much as I do, I'd get the natural color and stain it. (although it looks like it's temporarily out of stock) Another option is to message them and ask if they'll do a custom color for you. Good luck, Irene!
@@imCarlBrown Thanks for confirming the color of your bag! I sent an email to Mark at the Leather Shop and requested that they custom color the bag to a "saddle tan" and provided a screen shot. He said they would do their best so fingers crossed. It's been 4 yrs since you posted your video so I'm not sure if they keep records of how they formulated their various finishes/colors, but these guys seem to know what they're doing, so I'll trust in their expertise. Did the tan color darken through the years of use and sun exposure? I keep hearing that veg tanned leathers will darken with age, but I would prefer to keep my bags to whatever tan color they send to me.
@@irenevelasquez7319 it has darkened a little bit, but not much. And for context, I carried it with me literally every day for 3 years straight. And to my eye it had not darkened until I saw it next to pictures I had taken.
this bag is amazing but i worry it might be heavy on its own...not very suited for an "expedition" i think, can u let me know the weight of the bag?
it's just a couple pounds. it's very light.
Takes how many minutes to open it?
What I do on my bag is to leave the flap unbuckled but have the handle cover snapped. So entry is quick. Just unsnap the handles and open the top of the bag.
@@denisemcjunkins4391 , that’s exactly right. It’s just two snaps. When I had my SBL bag, it was so cumbersome to fasten it and unfasten it that I just kept it hanging open all the time, and yes, stuff fell out... often.
How much does it weigh, approximately? I love it!!
I should probably weigh it to give you the accurate answer. But I can tell you this- everyone says, "wow, that must be heavy!" And it is... when you put books in it. But I don't think of the case as heavy. It probably weighs as much as the other case in this video. Sorry it's not a specific answer, but I hope it helps!

Okay, I know you asked this question EIGHT months ago, but I finally emptied, waxed and weighed the leather case and it weighs 7.4 pounds.

@@denisemcjunkins4391 - in two months I will have had the Expedition for 3 years. I use it every day and sadly I have not once applied any leather products to it... but it still looks amazing. In fact, it looks better now that the day I got it.

When I saw your question, I thought to myself, "it still looks like it did when I bought it." Then I watched my video again, and, okay, it's aged, but it still looks great. I have only treated the leather once and I got it almost 5 years ago. With the exception of the last year, I carried this bag with me 6 days a week somewhere or another. It's BY FAR the best leather case I've ever seen. I hope you enjoy yours!

Great looking bag $1,600 dollars I really think it should be $500 tops delivered .my leather bag is 149 dollars and honestly mine smokes it look on Amazon polare mens vintage full grain leather wow smokes this look it up and tell me I am wrong.better yet purchase one I did and I am really freaking out how fantastic this thing is.
hey Mike, thanks for the comment. I looked up the Polare and it does look nice. One reason why I went with the Expedition is that there are no breakable parts like zippers or magnetic snaps. But all that really matters is that you like what you get. I've been carrying the Expedition case with me every day for 18 months and it still looks great.

I’m just saying the Expedition is one of a kind. So many other brands make similar designs. The Expedition is set apart.
For 1600 dollars, it's shit for having so much branding. It's ostentatious and kitsch. ESPECIALLY for a 1600 bag.

The saddleback bag is much nicer
I used to like Saddleback leather until I tried Vegetan leather like the Expedition case shown here. Saddleback, and other companies use chrome tan and it's just more flimsy.
Saddleback is a shit product.
