    I'll go kaki all the way, having the black does not mean is cleaner, simply you cannot see the dirt, however with the kaki you will be more conscious and cleaned more often.

    I'd be curious to see an actual load test. I'm a 270 lb man who's broken plenty of camp furniture that was supposedly rated to 330 lbs.

      I got the NatureHike camp chair that was reviewed on this channel. They make 2 different chairs (1 for 265 lbs and 1 330 lbs.) I've seen problems with joint where the legs go on the 330 lbs. chair. This cot looks like it has the same type of joint. I'm 240 and still wouldn't attach the legs on this cot.

    • @Im_With_Stupid
      @Im_With_Stupid 6 місяців тому +2

      Yeah, load ratings are a lot of hocus pocus, especially when dealing with ChinaCo. products. Sure, you might be able to evenly distribute X amount of static weight on something without it breaking, but then you try to put X amount of weight on it all in one spot, like sitting up on a cot, or evenly distributed, but shifting around a lot, and suddenly SNAP! and now you've got a busted cot and a gaping hole in your tent floor. Hopefully that's all that happened, too, and you didn't end up like my friend who had a ChinaCo. fiberglass tent pole driven all the way through his forearm from elbow to wrist when it snapped while he was pitching his tent.

    I believe Helinox came out with this design years ago but at a much higher price point when it first debuted. It was a revolution in light weight cot design. It's such a good design that it's essentially unchanged from the original. Good time to get one at these prices. Helinox were 3 to 4 times today's prices even back then.

  • @Im_With_Stupid
    @Im_With_Stupid 6 місяців тому +12

    Something a lot of first time cot buyers overlook is that before you buy a cot, you need to make sure your tent has enough room on the ends for one to be usable. Tents with angled walls, which probably most tents have, effectively become shorter the higher you get off the floor.

    I always use a cot when car camping, no reason to sacrifice comfort. The fact that this one is height adjustable is really nice.

      I use a cot whenever I can fit it into the tent. I find I'm a better leader when out camping when I've had a good night's sleep. (I'm a leader in a American Heritage Girls troop that tries to go camping at least twice a year with our girls.)
      I wonder if height adjustability would help it fit in smaller tents.

    I bought the OneTigre Cot based on your recommendation and it’s simply terrific. I really like that it has 4 sets of legs which makes it extra strong! This Nature Hike looks like a good value but unfortunately only has 3 sets of legs but since the OneTigres is no longer available, I may give the NatureHike a try as a second cot. Hopefully my OneTigres last for the rest of my life..

    I have an original Helinox High Cot. Purchased in 2016 before the prices doubled. I use it for a week once each year. It's still like new. The main advantage of the Helinox is the leg extensions are attached with shock cords so they won't get lost. With 12 separate legs for this version, you can bet one will go missing not to mention the extra setup time. You might want to pack a knife so you can whittle a temporary replacement at the camp site. Using it with just 1 missing leg will probably torque the cross brace and may damage it. My wife wants one now so I'm looking at the many rip off brands to save some $$$. Some of the copies don't have the lever to attach the cross bars and tension the top so those can be a wrestling match for those without big muscles. Even the instructions printed on the top is copied from Helinox.
    The high cot is a big plus for us older people who can't get up off the ground so easily. That comes with age, bad backs, bad knees, worn out hips, etc. Overall this design is good (must be based on the number of copycats), just look at the details for any particular cot. Fold up size, weight, height, number of separate parts, color.

    That is a nice camp cot and I actually would prefer the lighter color. I would just cover it with a plastic tablecloth to protect it from stains. The three tier concept is brilliant, making the higher tier great for van use. Bins could be stored underneath. I have a Coleman cot ($54) from Walmart I have used in my van for over two years padded with three inch foam ( $22). A Mexican wool blanket ($25) covers everything.

    One thing most cots don't have and what I really like is a set of elastic straps on the corners so you can secure a camping mat to them. Up to now I've only seen one cot that featured this, and it's something that is really useful to keep your mat from sliding around on the cot.

    • @sarahschreffler5407

      One nifty trick that I just saw but haven't tried yet, putting some "dots" of silicone on the bottom of your pad. This will give it a bit of traction and keep it from sliding around. Video I saw was an inflatable pad with dots every 4 inches or so and it seemed to hold in position fairly well after.

    Well, in my humble opinion, it all depends on the color of the dirt. Yes, dark soil (or soiled areas) stand out on a lighter color fabrics. But as many know, dried dirt, clays and even some pet hair will show more prominently on back fabric. I’m sitting here thinking of the underside of my black footprint after taking down my tent. So it seems to be a “six of one - half dozen of another” kind of thing. I’d think a lighter color cot would be cooler in the summer months than the black fabric as well.

    Well at least the black one won't show grass stains. To get Luke to stop slamming all of his gear around for the effect is probably like talking to a wall. It's part of the program now.

    They make a cot pad. It makes it slightly more comfortable and keeps it from getting filthy. I just take the pad off and throw it in the washing machine.

    Luke, enjoy your videos. Have you got any reviews on tent cots? I know it’s not for hiking, getting too old to hike. Looking at the tent cots and was wondering how they hold up under real conditions.

      I've owned the kamp rite original cot tent for 10 years .i use it several times a year. Slept in rain ,snow,sleet 1 clip on bottom strap finally broke . The storage bag is falling apart . I did add seam sealer to tent and rain fly this past winter. I add a sleeping pad to make it more comfortable. Up til last year it's always been dry even when it rains for 8 hours. Seam sealer took care off my issues.

    For me, a really good - and large enough cot - is paramount for comfortable camping. I got myself the Klymit Cedar Mesacot XL. Quite expensive, but worth it to me. This is really for car camping only. 217 cm long, 94 cm wide, 40 cm high. 181 kg max weight. Quite heavy with 8.6 kgs. Until now, I used an equally high-quality carp bed, which is even more comfortable (I still use that when camping with the family). However, as I have to take big trunks with me (cosplayer), this thing takes too much space in my car. As I do use campsites during summertime (much cheaper than a hotel), everything has to fit in my car. Hence the smaller packing size of the cot, paired with a nice air mattress.

    The footprint, that’s what concerns me about most of these….I’ve got a $1200.00 canvas baker tent (the Bill Mason design) and the sleep compartment has a floor and weight distribution is a concern so holes don’t get poked in. It’s a very thick vinyland tough but when weight is concentrated?? I may fabricate something to go with cot feet??

    Having only 3 supports makes this so much better than the One Tigres. I really like the idea of having one less strut to set up. This style of cot is great for size and weight, but really do require you to crawl around on the ground huffing and puffing to set them up. So 3 looks better than 4 in this case.

    They sell a nifty $40 sleeve/cushion to fit on it which will masks your big durty boot streaks (or dont wear durty boots on your damn bed!) all the while making it more comfy! YAY \o/ edit: cute tidbit: a chai-nah company I bought one with had me wait2 weeks then cancelled my order (and hiked the price 40%) but reimbursed me though. No problemo. A month later, I received the cot. Thanks chai-nah.

    Luke, Happy Easter, and I have a question or two. What are the "D" rings for and do you think cobbling longer legs to get the height up to 19 or 20 inches would stress and break the (what I assume are plastic) leg insertion points for a 220 pound man? I'm older and getting up and down from a 14 1/2" seat or bed is a little tougher for me than it may be for you.
