I like the 'summer' hair do. Good info in the video, too! So much water from garden hoses just evaporate. It is like trowing money up into the air here in summer. Soakers are a smart way to reduce water waste. Looking forward to the rain collection videos.
Horray!!! Love the short hair, Liz. Thanks for letting us now how to avoid problems with soaker hose systems. Your polytunnel is so neat and tidy, and very productive.
Absolutely late to the party here but this video was really helpful! I've been busy doing a dripper/sprinkler irrigation system for the last 2 weeks and wracking my brain as to why he pressure seems rubbish from the sprinklers on the far side but fine at the start. Just ordered a regulator! Thank you for explaining it, let's hope that works!!❤️ Btw, love your channel 😊
Hi Dave, it really was very easy to do, just took a little bit of planning out, but even if I make a mistake I can change it around using the connectors (which is reassuring as I am bound to make mistakes!).
Now where were you years ago? Eh? Eh? I well remember my husband with a bowl of hot water to put those fixings in - but here's what we did wrong: we didn't have a low pressure thingy and we buried it and had so many issues. For instance putting a fork through it even though we marked where it should have been. Or it only worked at the top of the garden and not the bottom of the slope, so we pulled it all up in the end. I also remember seeing little fountains flying up in the air! Expensive mistake, but then I guess it's had a lot of niggles ironed out now. Good video, thank you.
My goodness Liz! Summer dress, new hairdo, makeup, earrings...well done. You've made me feel like a slug with my hair in a bun and unshaven legs. :-) It is "real feel" 102 degrees (39 celsius) here in central Texas today with the humidity at 61%.
Wow you have a wonderful summery look liz. Love your hair, this video is brilliant and thanks for all those tips too. The ploy tunnel is looking great 🌱🌱🌱🌱🌻🌼🌲🍓🍅🍅🍓🍏
I thought I'd rock the posh frock and wellies look for this video. In hindsight it didn't look as glamorous as it did in my head when I got dressed LOL
Thanks for the shoutout Liz. When you get the IBCs you might not need the pressure reducer if you are running a 12v pump via solar, as the pressure is much lower then mains water (also take the litreage per hour with a bucket of salt! Ironically i’ve just ordered the bits to finish my auto watering system in the polytunnel - bit different to yours, as i’m providing direct water to specific plants rather than bed watering, like you have.
I need to get this figured out too Liz 🤦🏼♀️ thanks for the info...I’m dreading it. I’m not great with mechanical anything. I may put my husband onto that.😅 I’m best with design and layout than actually physically making it work. Hoping he can figure it out for me😉😉
Nice informative video, Liz. It ‘s so lovely in your polytunnel and great planting. The hair clippings fit you and it looks like you have had success with the weight reduction, you were talking about in a live chat. Well done👍
We keep having rain showers today, so we are excused from mowing the clover (I'd like to say grass but there isn't much out there, just lots and lots of clover).
Thank you Jody. I was about time to have my twice yearly hair cut and as we've had some very warm days already, it was nice to lose some of the extra weight on my head!
Thanks that’s really useful info. Presumably that would work just as well outside? I’ve put some Ollas on my plot today for watering the tomatoes and cucumbers. Anything to help with watering and lessen the trips with the watering cans 👍
Thanks Liz, nice description. I have a DIY dripper system in the greenhouse running off a 250 litre water butt. It works OK once I found a timer that works well on butt pressure. The problem I'm having is that when my butt is full there is more pressure than when it's empty or even half empty (despite the fact that I've raised it as high as I can to get more head). This meant that when full the plants got flooded and when getting towards empty they could get parched. OK that could take 7 to 10 days and usually I got there to top up before that. I've decided to bite the bullet and buy a solar powered irrigation system that will supply a constant pressure from a water butt/IBC no matter how full/empty it is. Hopefully I can just plug it into the existing layout, otherwise I'll replace the hoses and drippers with leaky pipes
@@LizZorab I should also say that I was growing in pots so they either flooded or dried out (giving me split Tom's). Planting in the ground would probably give more of a buffer absorbing the extra water early on and giving it back later on. Just decided that I'll going into the soil in the borders this year and might not need the pump. Will see if the clay soil and manure mix buffers the difference in flows.
Do you need a pump to get the water from the holding tank to the irrigation system and to the plants ? I was told that it was necessary for the water to flow correctly.
Hi Liz , I live in Carmarthenshire too. And wanting to install an irrigation system, but had trouble with mice biting holes in plastic pipes that I put on the ground in my poly tunnel. , has your soaker hose been mouse resistant ? Many thanks Sarah
Hi Liz, I’m looking for a watering solution for my polytunnel. May I ask, did you connect the hose to IBC’s, and did you need to elevate them much to reach required pressure? Thanks
I didn't get around to installing the IBCs for the polytunnel before we moved house. Sorry I can't help with how much drop you'd need to create sufficient pressure.
I like your easy presenting style Liz. You mentioned IBC water storage tanks. I wondered what they were called! How do you plan to fill them? Once in a while from the water main - or do you have a cunning plan to capture rainwater somehow? I didn't know that good polytunnels could be so relatively inexpensive so thanks for the information.
Hi Tony, I'm still really impressed with the polytunnel over a year later. I planned to do some trickery with guttering and plastic sheeting and I still haven't got around to it - but I will!
Thanks for the feedback Frank. I changed the entire background music three times and still wasn't happy with it, but ran out of time so this was the version that had to stay. It's so hard sometimes to find the right pieces of music!

Hi Carol, yes the twice a year shearing has happened! LOL I've been impressed with how long the soil is staying damp with the soaker hose.

Cool new watering system. Glad its recycled.
I'm really pleased with it!
Nice explanation on using a soaker hose. Sounds like that’ll be ideal for your polytunnel. Should save a lot of wasted water. Take care. Nick
Great information Liz, thanks so much. By the way, wonderful haircut! Cheers!
Very useful! Thanks
Hi Liz wonderful idea on the socker hose you have give me a idea for my polytunnel now thank you fro sharing Happy Growing Dave

Thanks Kerry and sorry to read of your problems many moons ago with a soaker hose :-)
Good day to you Liz & Mr J !! thanks for sharing another awesome update and adventure on the Farm & Homestead !! 👨🌾🎥👍✝
Great setup liz, I have soaker hose and drippers all sat here I really should put them to use
Yes, get them into your polytunnel, you have all those fabulous IBCs filled with water just waiting to water your plants.

Suzanne, don't worry I didn't look like that for long, I went inside from filming and back into baggy trousers and tshirt!

Hey, Liz. Had a hard time focusing on the gardening bit because your hair is so darned cute!
Looking good Liz and so are you.
Thanks Nicola! I'm really pleased with how well the polytunnel is turning out :-)
Very well explained including the problems /solutions.
Great system Liz. Great idea. So handy to lessen your work.

Hi Benni, thank you and yes the weight loss is coming along nicely, I still have a long way to go but it's a start!
Love your hair, and you look so happy, that’s the best look on you!
Fighting with the lawnmower again liz 😜

Great vlog guess I need that saves on lugging cans
Hi Anne, the bit that impresses me the most is that it uses much less water than sprinkler systems or watering cans :-)
Nice one Liz. I use a solar powered soaker hoe in some of my spud buckets.

I don't see why not, as long as the rain barrel is higher than the area you want to water. :-)
Liz, I will give it a go. Should save me some time. Thank you. Take care Joyce
Lots of chat but very little film showing how you actually installed the hose and kit - disappointing and misleading title
Sorry Liz, the video is great. But the background music is too loud and distracting/annoying.
