I gotta get out of Med Surg.

Do it! I started out on med search as a new grad like most do. I will tell you that that was one of my most frustrating Jobs I've ever had in my life, And I was on a good floor! I honestly don't know how people do it for an entire career. I began hating being a nurse and would dread going into work. I was miserable. Thankfully about a year ago I got into our hospitals operating room as a circulating nurse and I've never looked back! I absolutely love being in the OR and it has renewed my passion for nursing. Finding the specialty that fits you best can really make or break your entire nursing career. Good luck!

@@Nurdse_326 my plan is to work in the OR. Should I work as circulating while I train for RNFA?

He’s 100% right. I’m a year into nursing and I’ve done corrections, inpatient float nurse and urgent care style clinic. Don’t let people say your not a nurse just because you don’t choose bedside. 💕

How did you like corrections ??

@@laurenhills239 Corrections was very similar to urgent care style clinic. We basically do sick calls and give either meds or let the doctor see them. We’d clean them up after fights and send them to ER if it’s beyond our resources ( which was often). My schedule was 1 week on and 1 week off. 11 hour shift and decent pay here in AK($40+) . I also always had an officer by my side when doing direct care so I always felt safe.

@@kokidchaz4790 Clinic! It’s mostly medical assistant work but paid like an RN. No nights or weekends.

Hi. just noticed your channel. I am looking to go to school for nursing next year. I want to go into either pediatric pulmonology, gen pediatrics or pediatric nephrology nursing due to having been a pediatric patient since 9 til legal adult age in those specialties for hypertension and asthma. I'm in my 20s ( not in school yet and would love to help kids in medical specialty. Any suggestions for landing a job in one of these fields? Currently looking at schools for nursing ! Thanks!

I went into nursing school wanting to go into the ICU . After shadowing and seeing 90% of pts were obese …. I’m looking into post op and may go into hospice down the road.

Great advice! I plan to go to nursing school at the start of next year. I have done all my prerequisites. I only need to take the teas. Anyways, what would you say would be a good specialty for someone who likes the environment to be more laid back?

You are 100% right! When I was in nursing school, I thought I wanted to do open heart progressive care~ graduated and went to work on that unit and thought I would die. Absolutely hated it!!! School only gives a small glimpse into each unit, like you said. I love the ICU and currently, I am now loving being a case manager for home health & hospice. Thanks for another great video!
