      Another Fun Fact:
1.Argentina vs France is the only third instance the World Cup winner will be decided by penalty shootout. France had also lost the World Cup Final previously to Italy in 2006.
2.Lionel Messi became the third players to win the World Cup immediately after he joined Paris Saint Germain. To be honest, only two players achieved this rare cycle: Ronaldinho in 2002 and Kylian Mbappe in 2018.
3.Argentina won the last two World Cups when the Chinese calendar year was a Tiger.
4.Argentina won the last two World Cups after Ukraine suffered the worst event. In 1986, two months before the World Cup was held, Chernobyl disaster occurred and Pripyat was a ghost town. This year, the whole country was invaded by Russia.

20:38 this is exactly why the Telemundo/Peacock commentators were easily miles better than the Fox commentators. So much passion and emotion in their voice, always had something to talk about in the games, and they knew how to build tension for the plays. Also an interesting tidbit to note, both times Australia reached the knockout stage, they were eliminated by the eventual winners of the world cup, 2006(Italy beat Australia round of 16, won the world cup) 2022(Argentina beat Australia, won the world cup) so if you knock Australia out at the round of 16, you have a 100% success rate of winning the world cup so far. It might be a coincidence but if it happens a third time in a row, it is not a coincidence.

If Australia is a team you want to defeat in the round of 16 on the way to World Cup glory, one team you definitely don’t want to beat at any stage earlier than the semifinals is Germany. This is what happened to every team that defeated Germany in the QF or earlier since WWII:
1954 - Hungary, lost in final to Germany
      1962 - Yugoslavia, lost in semi-final
1974 - East Germany, eliminated in second group stage
1982 - Algeria, eliminated at group stage after “Anschluss” game.
      1986 - Denmark, lost in R16
      1994 - Bulgaria, lost in semi-final
      1998 - Croatia, lost in semi-final
2010 - Serbia, eliminated at group stage
2018 - Mexico (lost in R16) and South Korea (eliminated at group stage)
      2022 - Japan, lost in R16

The first World Cup I caught in my lifetime was 2006. I faintly recall watching Ronaldinho doing wizardry with the ball when I was 4. My first proper WC was in 2010, and I got Argentina as the team to root for from inheritance. Since then I've watched the man Leonel Messi go through his ups, and his downs. Cried on 2014. Lost hope on 15-16 after the losses in a row. Messi was leaving after the fan backlash, but came back after their very request, only to lose again in 18. I almost forgot my love for football by then, knowing I'd probably never see a cup on my favorite teams hand in my lifetime.
But then came 2021. I didn't even watch Copa that year because I was long checked out from Football back then but then I heard the madlads over at Argentina somehow reached the final. I woke up at 4am to catch the match, and they won. They actually won an international trophy, my eyes couldn't believe what it was seeing, and this got me right back into football. Then came this tournament, after a loss Argentina slowly crawled through the victory road and then finally won the fabled World Cup for real. I consider myself so lucky to be witnessing Messi reach from nothing to the absolute victory at the end. He truly is the greatest of all time.

Something a lot of people don't know, Gonzalo Montiel, the man who won Argentina by scoring the penalty.
He's an expert at penalties, only 7 in his career and he's always hit the back of the net. Why? He used to make money doing penalties before he went to professional football, from this kind of place to winning Argentina the World cup has to be something glorius.
Not only is Montiel's story so beautiful it seems every Argentine player's stories are.

I really do think this was the ending that Messi deserved. I mean, the last two years have kinda fulfilled the ending to his career, a Copa America win against Brazil, a win against Italy the European champions, and an amazing final against France, the defending world champions.
I grew to love football because of Messi, of course he wasn’t the first one I was cheering on, back in the 5th grade, my social studies teacher decided to put the World Cup on just because it was the end of the school year and we no longer had anything to do, of course I chose a random ass team to support which I think was Spain at the time, but then transitioned to Brazil, when Brazil had lost 7-1, I made sure to support whoever else was facing Germany, and it so happened that Lionel Messi had arrived to the final.
Of course the heart break someone who had just gotten into watching the sport was wild, I wanted Argentina to win not because of Messi but just because I didn’t want Germany to win. And so the next couple weeks passed on and summer break and ended. I don’t think I really cared for football, but my cousin who had joined the soccer team a year before encouraged me to join.
And of course once you spend money to join a team, you might as well learn about ball, of course you gotta look up football, and guess who I somehow stumbled upon? Messi. I don’t exactly remember how I got to know Messi, or the reason I started supporting him (maybe because I loved that away kit Argentina had in 2014) but I did anyways.
I think it’s been an amazing 8 years with football, and Messi. ( oh now that I’ve thought about it, I think around October when Luis Suarez came back to Barcelona after being suspended for like 6 months MSN happened, and they were winning a lot)
I also want to point out that I’m actually grateful to Germany now, I 100% believe Messi doesn’t become the player he is now if he wins that World Cup, I don’t think he had to prove something in 2015 with Neymar and Suarez, I feel like if he had won, Messi would’ve ended up like Xavi, Iniesta, David vila, Xabi. Like they won the the prize everyone wanted and dipped basically.
Messi could’ve and would’ve been allowed to dip, after carrying them to 3 finals and losing them all back in 2016. I 100% think that was justified, he had no help, and had to do everything on his own.
But imma just skip until today, and Messi now. He deserved this, as Argentina’s ex-coach said: ‘Messi doesn’t owe a World Cup to Argentina or anyone, football owes a World Cup to Messi’ of course not verbatim, but I think that’s a very true statement, he’s been through more heart break in finals than anyone in the last 20 years. Imagine making it to 3 finals but your team can’t do anything to help you, I bet Mbappe is feeling that at this very moment, Messi maybe didn’t show up to any of those three previous finals, but he carried them through the whole tournament, whether it was scoring all the goals in the group stages, or making the key passes to the player who scored the goals to get them to the final, Messi was doing that by himself, no one else had to go through that type of hardship besides Messi.
And I think this is kinda a fitting end for my ‘career’ of watching football. I mean I’ll keep up with Son, I’ll keep up with Messi, but I don’t think I really wanna watch football without Lionel Messi playing, the levels above others he is was displayed when he was straight up being the conductor for Argentina at 35. Now imagine seeing MSN Messi, Suarez-Messi Messi. And then Messi by himself.
Like I don’t really think there will be another Messi regen for at least 30 years. It took about 16 years for the Maradona regen to appear.
I mean Messi will either retire after the next Copa America or he will play until he’s like 39 either way, if the the reason you started watching football isn’t there anymore, what’s the point? Even though Mbappe scored a hat trick, and the ‘torch’ has been passed to him, Messi was levels above him for most of that game, but at 35. Imagine watching Messi, and then when he retires having to watch the likes of the robotic Haaland who just scored and does nothing else, Mbappe just runs and shoots.
It’s hard to describe Messi as a player, and it’s hard to describe just why, and how he’s better than players. But I’d just like to say thank you to Messi, and basically good bye to him and my childhood, since he was my childhood

Then of course Messi made me fall in love with Barcelona the club. I ended up living there and watching them live more than once. This world cup is something i never dreamed would happen, Messi again (similar to Zidane) leading his players on the pitch and directing play. Only this time it did end like a beautiful circle in completion.
    I just love football.
