- At last, there’s an all-new Toyota 4Runner! The 6th generation gets a Platinum and Trailhunter trims for the first time. The V6 is gone, replaced by a turbocharged 4-cylinder i-FORCE 2.4-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder making 278 horsepower or the i-FORCE MAX hybrid 4-cylinder with up to 326 horses. Both get 8-speed transmissions. If that sounds familiar, 4Runner is based on the same TNGA-F architecture as the new Tacoma pickup. The 2025 Toyota 4Runner should go on sale in the fall of 2024.

I can listen to you talk about cars all day! Thanks for breaking it down, can’t wait to see the full review.
i am beginning to understand why all the new cars look like made for the apocalypse...
I think it looks great.
They may help cause it.
I bought a new Land Cruiser FJ60 in 1987. One trim level was available: 4-speed manual transmission, carbureted, inline 6, steel dashboard, bumpers that weighed about 40 pounds each. $18,000.
About $50,000 today. A lot for a simple vehicle but no doubt it rocked everything it was designed to do.
The editing and commentary made this an interesting preview. Current potential buyers may decide to hold off a few months to consider this one.
The rear glass is neat. Was hoping for a bit more of the first gen open air vibe though.
Not differentiated enough from the LC IMO. I’d expect it will get a less premium interior and in general be more cost optimized with Toyota level switchgear instead of Lexus level parts. But hey, the Toyota grade stuff is still pretty durable most of the time.
Hi Tom, it was nice meeting you, great videos!
Thanks Tom!
Thanks Tom! This will be on my short list in 2 years.
i like your denim jacket, tom. where’d you get it?
Great post, thanks for sharing Tom. Debating on this or the LC.
What is the difference
LC Convertible
Far better investment value if you garage it daily and keep it low mileage under 50K
The Convertible only comes with the V8 , the whole point of owning one.
4runner hybrid is my choice. The LC reviews make it sound like a rough rider. Big respect tho.
Of the UA-cam channels your’s is my favorite. Toyota is savvy with their social media strategy. Having said that, 2028 is my year to buy a new car (I’ll be 55) and my kids will be finished college 😁 I bet Toyota’s 5 brothers line up will be in good shape by then.
That is one handsome car 😊
Nicely done Toyota. They need some help with their cars. But they do right by their trucks.
Nice!!!!
Great Job as always tom, these will sell like hotcakes if you have 35-70k I’m guessing to spend!
$35k?!!! What decade are you stuck in?!
Hi Tom. I like toyota.
If its Tom or Ryan coming up with new video, I click right away.
Will it have this isodynamic suspension seats that Tacoma has?
2:12
The gain on the background audio track seemed a bit to high for my tastes, making it a little hard to hear your voice.
Men obsession with the bull dog grill.
Tom, It looks like your invitation to the California debut got lost in the mail. 🤨 Unlike Bronco and Wrangler, Toyota refuses to offer a front locker or manual transmission with the 4Runner even though both can be found in their parts warehouse. 🤨🤨
Great info Tom. Disappointed everything Toyota has gone 4 cylinder, including the new Land Cruiser. They are just not as refined as a 6 or 8 cylinder engine, no matter the HP numbers.
Where is the 2025 4Runner built for the USA market?
Is the electric motor in the iForce Max 48 horsepower or 48 volt?
Copied and pasted from Toyota's press release- This powertrain pairs the turbocharged 2.4-liter engine with a 48-hp electric motor integrated into the eight-speed transmission, feeding off a 1.87-kWh NiMH battery pack that creates a total system output of up to 326 horsepower and 465 lb.-ft. of torque, the most powerful powertrain ever offered on 4Runner.
Looks good but gloss black wheel fender arches, really?
And the gloss black lower front valance.... Not only impractical in this application, when will manufacturers get that gloss black trim almost always sends its wearer down market (BMW XM are you listening?), not the other way around. Satin (or semi-flat) or nothing.
Interesting that this sits above the Land Cruiser now. This is bigger and, I would expect, more expensive.
I don't think Toyota fears market overlap. There are plenty of people in the 4Runner camp, plenty of people in the LC camp, and more in the GX camp. Selectable vs. full-time 4x4 will further seperate the buyers, at least according to comments.
"Toyota would be nuts to eighty-six that..." I see what you did there! 😄
It's a Toyota the more they change the more they stay the same
Copy and paste from their other trucks and suvs, from the outside to the interior. Nothing original about it. At least the new land cruiser looks different.
looks like a small bodybuilder... the land cruiser 250 looks much better.
Manual trans?
Nope
Doesn't look memorable, sreams Tacoma lol
No invite eh?
This is an IFV moms will drive to pick kids from school. Ugh!
about time, Toyota
How many organs will I need to sell though?
It depends on the street value of the particular organs.
This is not it. Looks like the last generation
They're going to sell a million of these.
Not with finance rates as high as they are.
@@beri232 Coming out in the fall. Expect one rate cut by then. They will sell.
@@ktpinnacle I’m in Canada and was at a Lexus dealership yesterday to pay out my lease. When we leased our 2022 RX350 I think the rate was 2.9%…. as of yesterday, they wanted 8.9%. Lol. Bad enough dealerships have jacked the prices up as high as they have but adding an extra 6% on top of their rates is just extortion. I hope they choke on their vehicles like they did in 2008/09
@@beri232 I agree with your frustration. Sadly, the opportunity for post covid profit has been taken advantage of by more than car makers/dealers.
Built in Japan and not in Mexico, SOLD!
Mexico beat productivity market. Japan don’t have the workers to do auto anymore
Without a question the last generation look wayyyy better and cleaner period…. This is a fail in all aspects
So they not compete if against the GM and Ford Full size SUV. Oh well
Horrible 😅
They had me, till….for a subscription fee? Really. I know I sound like my Dad who said, “pay for T.V….never!”….Back in the early 80’s….but I assure you, I will never subscribe for anything my car has…awful, just awful.
Toyota has the ugliest and the most boring inside and outside designs amongst mainstream brands.
Looks, no big deal. What is, is that Toyota reliability and durability. Is it there? I go back with Toyota years. Will this be great too?
