      I own a OnePlus 12 so obviously it's gonna be different, but I do see it a bit at 30 fps. It was way more subtle than what he showed tho, and when you use 60 fps it's basically completely gone. Nobody really moves the camera like that anyway. Obviously two different phones, but maybe that can clear things up (he did say it was an issue on the 12)

    i think excusing every weakness as "most people won't care" "it's fine" isn't acceptable for a $1000 phone. Only budget and midrange phones should be allowed to use that trope.

    • @thany3
      @thany3 3 дні тому +55

      One of those things were about the megapixels. 50 megapixels for a phone camera is WAAAAY more than you'll ever need. Bigger pixels is actually better, in theory, up to a limit.
      As for the framedrops, yeah, that's unforgivable. Even on a cheap phone, to be fair. If it lists 4K/60fps as a feature, it has to also work, otherwise it's false advertising, which is illegal mostly everywhere. Doesn't matter if the phone is $200 or $2000.

      @@thany3 You say "its way more than youll ever need" but its also a $1000 phone. It should have way more you'll ever need for that pricetag. Especially when he mentions that the problem was present on previous phones too.

    • @Breigner01
      @Breigner01 3 дні тому +21

      @@SnakeYikes What he is saying about the 50 MP is not just about this phone, you have full fledged camera bodies that are under 25MP that got out this year and their sensors are 24*36mm (also known as a full frame sensor), so much bigger than your phone's sensor and there is a good reason why it isn't more, it's about low light performance, and there are full frame cameras with 40Mp sensors or even more, but they are worse in low light and do better in other scenarios.
      So, for a phone, we really should stop the sprint to more MP and focus on stuff that matters like low light performance, and in such small sensors, we really would benefit more from a good under 10MP sensors rather than a bad 50MP sensor.

    • @hacker_anonymous8491
      @hacker_anonymous8491 3 дні тому +1

      @@thany3 on smartphones, these 50 megapixels might not be enough. in fact, even Samsung's 200 megapixels might not be enough. this is because these ridiculously high megapixel numbers are achieved using non conventional bayer sensors, more specifically quad bayer (nonabayer for 108mp sensors and hexadecabayer for the 200mp ones). quad bayer provides a few upsides, such as higher yield when manufacturing, and support for exposure bracketing and binning to bayer resolution without taking multiple images at separate times. however, this all comes with many other downsides such as low detail at max resolution, much more noise at max resolution, and larger file sizes with very minimal benefits at max resolution. it would be much more beneficial to have a 20mp bayer resolution smartphone sensor, as that would actually be a "high resolution" sensor compared to almost all phones now having a sensor with 12mp of bayer resolution, and relying on quad bayer and hexadecabayer color filters to bump up that advertising number while not making any actual improvements

      The OnePlus 13R, which is out globally right now as well, is an amazing device at a $600 price tag for 12GB RAM and 256GB storage. That's an incredible deal, and you don't give up much. It's meant to be the classic OnePlus "everyman" phone. The 13 is an honest-to-goodness flagship with an stupidly powerful chipset, an absolutely incredible camera, insane battery life, and a gorgeous screen. It steps into the ring with the iPhones and Galaxys and knocks them out cold while costing $200 to $500(!) less.
      If you don't want to shell out $900 for a OnePlus, you don't have to. Get the 13R for $600 and still have an experience that will be absolutely perfect for 80% of users.

      @@MegaLokopo "Why do you care" you ask someone who's watching phone reviews, are you for real? People care because they're considering purchasing the thing and they want to know if it's worth their hard-earned dough. Even if these kinds of battery tests aren't indicative of real-world usage, that's actually a good thing since that means they're standardized and show how big of a difference you can expect from these phones compared to others on the market, and that can matter big time. People hold on to their phones for much longer nowadays and a battery lasting two days versus one and a half is actually very meaningful to see how long into the future the battery will remain up to snuff before it starts degrading.

    I've been running a OnePlus 9 since the 12 was their flagship. I'll be using it until the battery stops charging in part because it's still a great phone for my needs, but also because I slipped on a wet step and fell full force on the thing in my pocket, causing a visible bend in the phone's body and shattering the backplate but the screen and cameras still work 100%. Not a single crack. It's just a little bent.

    I'm still rocking the OnePlus 6t and I have almost no reason to upgrade after 6 years. The battery is finally starting to get kinda low at the end of the day (20-30%) but still hasn't been an issue yet. I was thinking I'd get another OnePlus if I got a new phone, but if they are tending towards an iPhone style, and charging a grand for 512Gb, I don't know that I want OnePlus anymore. Honestly, I wouldn't mind a better camera but I don't really need it. I can still do 4k 60.

      @thesherbet My 5t is still perfectly functional, in those years I've taken it apart once as my usb port was full of crud from years of use and I couldn't clean it well enough without removing it.
      The only issue is is the battery isn't that great but still lasts like 50-75% of the day and is still original which is mind blowing.
      She's still nice and fast with 8gb of ram, 128gb storage, screen is perfect etc it's truly the best phone I've ever owned.
      The Nord 4 is tempting, but I just can't get it on contract with my preferred carrier in the UK so likely going to go pixel 9 as there's some good deals on contracts and I don't really need more phone than that and it works out at about £400 ISH for the phone over the 2 year length.
      Just miss the old OP days as they really were insane value for spec/ quality. Also would love a Nothing phone but there still a bit expensive in my opinion for what you get. I really wish Carl Pei had made nothing into the OG OP 😂

    The cameras aren't quite comparable to other "flagship level" phones (based on my experience with the OP 12, which has mostly the same set of sensors as the 13). Compared to Xiaomi, Vivo and its corporate sibling Oppo - all of which have 1" sensor main cameras - its 1/1.4inch sensor main camera isn't exactly industry leading. Its good enough compared to Samsung and Google, as they are still using current gen stacked Sony sensors unlike the "mainstream" flagships which are using shittier sensors with better computational processing - but not really comparable to the phones carrying proper photography hardware.
    For me at least, that was fine for the 12 because a) this was reflected in the price compared to Xiaomi 14 Ultra, Oppo Find X8 pro etc. and b) I am very into my photography so I always have a APSC compact camera on me anyway so I don't care as much about smartphone photography. But with the 13, it seems like OnePlus has kept the sub-flagship camera setup whilst hiking the prices to flagship level.
    If you are after a flagship android phone this year - IMHO skip OnePlus and pick-up a Xiaomi or a Vivo once they have their Snapdragon Elite phone out.

    the thermal throttling was 100% broken on the op12, so id be curious if the same issue exists on the 13. i bet if he kept playing cod for 10 more mins, the fps would have dropped to 50fps

    More megapixels doesn't mean more quality...

    it would be nice to see some actually demanding games in these. like wuthering waves. this would be lucky to get a smooth 60fps at maxed settings. also oneplus should have an internal game fps overlay which also shows the cpu and gpu utilization, unless they have removed it. but this is just my small nitpick, great review regardless. im kinda tempted, but my oneplus 7 pro is still going strong so not sure i can justify it.

    I wish they'd confirm whether or not they're using a 2K dollar Miniot Wheel as a SET PIECE.
