It did pretty well for those stock tires ! Probably would have gone forward with some nice bigger BFG/AT. Since I see no back wheels spinning, makes me think that either there was a fault in 4x4 system, or you just don't floor it enough to give time to the 4x4 system to do his job.
Yeah whenever you get the vehicle stuck on the front frame it doesn't matter if it's AWD or 4WD because all the weight isn't sitting on the wheels to provide traction and instead weight of vehicle is now on the part of the vehicle that's stuck ..in this case frame to mud/dirt. Always wanted an RX300 instead I went with Acura MDX 1st gen.. Similar AWD system amd quite capable for a unibody SUV.

You could use Snow Mode for mud terrain..

What year model? I believe that you wouldn't be able to spin a tire like that in a 2002-3 because the ABS would brake it.

That was FWD "Front Wheel Drive" not AWD because the back tires didn't spin once.
